Hey Kim/ dimmer how cool is it gettin up there now?
are the trees starting to turn?
How far down the toll way do they send you to work?
one of the engineers for the volunteer fire dept in Belvidere used to work on the toll way.
I bet it does get cold with all the cars and trucks even in a booth.
sorry so many questions but I don't get much in word from my kids up there unless I call them they don't have internet
Debra... yes. the flannel has to be 100% cotton to fray right. Poly doesn't fray. I used double sided flannel... you can buy flannel that's only fuzzy on one side... and I don't think that frays the same way.
The reason I jumped all over this purse is because I've made things before using the same fraying principle... and learned though that that only 100% cotton will fray properly... don't use any mixes of fibers.
I made Jackets for the girls when they were smaller with the "rag quilt" concept... they were soooo cute, and simple to make. Actually thinking about making me one now.
pancakes and sausage? oh.......I'M SO HUNGRY and my weight is up, which means this new thyroid med is not working right.
going after a load of manure in a minute or two, I think.
Morning Glory!
oh, now my brain won't think of anything but pancakes and sausages....
Phyllis, I use that method for mixing the cornstarch or flour into pan drippings, I just don't know what to use to make that dark chocolate colored gravy - the flavoring is the key I'm missing....
anyone have a great beef gravy recipe? Harris Teeter's price on eye of round roast is awesome and the way I cooked it was so easy, but it needs a great gravy.....which I don't do well. dark brown like Shoney's used to do?
omg the fairy site is soo cute love the stuff for fairy gardens LOL
My recipe for brown gravy consist of opening a package of McCormick's brown gravy mix and mixing it with water...
Sorry, I've never been known for my cooking skills.
Bon try this for seasonings in it
1 tsp garlic
1/2 tsp. parsley flakes
1/2 Tbls. dried thyme
2 cups beef broth
20 whole peppercorns
1 whole bay leaf
1/2 Tbls. salt
I did a search for the recipe
http://recipes.robbiehaf.com/S/255.htm
LOL-hey that is my recipe BJ-did you peek in my cupboard??
Thanks, BJ. That's what I thought. too bad the cotton flannel is not on sale. Ha ha, you've read my mind. Been thinking ..... what else can I make using this technique? Shopping totes? Vest? Jacket? Baby quilt? Diaper bag? Dog bed? Table cover? Table runner? LOL! This is what I really want to make - but need a little more experience first. It's adorable! Maybe with roosters instead of pigs. Does anyone have a quilt pattern that could be used to do something like this?

OK - I'm betting she lasts a max of 3 days before opening it. why not? make your birthday last a couple weeks that way, instead of too much all on one day.
anyone waking up feeling better? my headache hit again before I lifted my head off the pillow....but today is so gorgeous, and quadruple booked, I'm going to ignore it.
"OH The Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord, for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain and the apple seed, the Lord is good to me."
ok - that's the Johnny Appleseed Grace, now please pass them thar flapjacks and sausages....
GREAT NEWS - the crinum lilies from PDN are back from the dead. but the phlox are gonners. everything else is up and growing that I've carted in here.
anyone know if sage (for cooking) is perennial and does it need anything special for growing?
OK-If I can hold out til next Monday since I do celebrate the whole week I will allow myself to open 1 a day!!LOL
Phyllis - you ROCK - how did you find this? I've googled and googled for it!!!
oh this is nearly perfect - Randall will be so thrilled!
OH, that's an adorable quilt, Debra... someday, I might attempt a whole quilt... but not today.
I'm walking away from my sewing machine, and moving my butt out to the side yard today to dig some more... got to go get the 25 bags of cotton burr compost I ordered last week, and till those beds before the weekend... got plants coming this weekend from the RU I'll be attending. Don's home to help me today, so I better take advantage of it.
nobodyspeaking to me anymore? that is fine
Kathy-we are not ignoring you honey-DEBRA-did you see AKthy's post-she wants your 4 oclocks:)
Kathy, I didn't even know you were here !!!!
Sure, I'm speaking to you.. CUZ... I WUV you....
I'm off to get dressed and get busy... see all ya'll later.
I am gonna be gettign outside about noon-can play til then-it is just too chilly right now:(
Sorry, Kathy! I missed your post! Of course you can have them. Do you want the plants or the seeds? If I mail the plants, do I need to cut them back first? They are about 3' tall.
Morning everyone, I am here, just lurking.
BJ, do the bags have to go through the dryer cycle, or just the washing cycle to get the frayed edges?
LK
wash and dry, LK.
Debra. What color four o clocks do you have, I have the bright pibks ones, and yes, they do spread real easy. To find the seeds, just go to each of the little buds, where the flowers were, and you will see a dark little round seed, about the size of a pea. Pluck it our before it falls and re-seeds itself. I go out and check mine several times a day, and come in with about 12 seeds each time.
OK, Thanks. Now I just need to get out and get some flannel.
LK
Mine are the same color as yours, LK. Several times a day????!!!!!!! Ack! I'm yanking those things out of there today. Kathy, let me know if you want them. gotta get them out of there before the start spewing seeds!
Phylis
It is cold in the AM About 40's and then about Noon its in the 60's today is 51
they has been frost on the ground
The Toolway is about 5 miles from my house I go from Grand Ave to Russell Rd about 15 miles but its not every day as I am not in the Toll boths They have started to grind the Middle and once it done we come in and Pave it than they come back and put Concreat over the top. This is what It looks like. So you can see that Why I am so cold we do blacktop on the sides I am the one that holds the Slow sign to try and slow cars and trucks down HAHAHAHA. I wish that they wood put more cops on the road they can make so much money from the speede. Some times the truck go bye so fast that the sign and myself get blown around Thursday they were going so fast that I put myself against my truck just to keep me from blowing around.
Dimmer
Be careful out there, Kim!
BJ, did you post instructions for the purse? I didn't see them if you did. I'd like to make one, too!
Mornin' Kathy! I'm not ignorin' you, just hadn't got to the end till now! How many babies now? Are you gonna give them to Jezebel when they all hatch? That'll be fun!
PS: I know what it's like to be ignored! Don't like it, either!
Dimmer, glad to see you post! Be careful out there!
Kathy, how beautiful! Your man sure knows how tto please you!!!! Happy anniversity!
Kimberly, that's the job a friend of mine used to have when the interstates were being built in the Tri-Cities area of WA. she said she had to switch out every so often with another worker, because just standing there was hard on the back and the arm holding the sign would go numb. She said in summer, she'd need relieft from the baking sun and in winter she'd have to step into a truck cab to warm up her frostbite! But it's an important job to keep us heavy pedal types from having crunched metal or, God forbid, we'd hit one of the workers working.
OK, not fair. we had eggs over easy for breakfast because of my headache, and now it's 3 times worse. I may end up sidelined today if this medicine doesn't cut the pain.
thanks audrey, my ann. isn't until the 12. they are an early present
Bon I just did a search and looked at a couple of sites and found that one ..but then I did put in Shoney's brown gravy recipe...LOL
Dimmer yeah I do remember the way they drive on the toll up there ....worse then crazy people just like in Houston or Dallas.
when they go flyin by don't ya wish you had some tacks to toss down for them to go over a flat tire would slow them done. LOL
I agree they need more cops out there they post to slow down and the fine you get for speeding in construction zones but ya never see any cops there
Be careful out there
hey idea get one of those fog horn things to keep in your pocket and when they come up and are not slowing down blast it at them...will get their attention at least for a second LOL
On the 4o'clocks pull them up without gettin the seeds out first is going to reseed them again.
do like Debra said to get the black seeds that are ready out first before pullin them up.
I remember as a kid helping my granny collect the seeds for them even thought they still came back every year in the same spot as we never got all the seeds.
Well Ladies, it was biscuits and sausage gravy this morning. Don't know how the pancakes came it--next time. Plenty left if anyone wants some just pass your plate. The sausage is really good too!!!!! Do have some scrambled eggs on the side for those who want them--dig in and enjoy.
Oh Kathy, they are really, really pretty. They look very regal. What kind are they?
Debra, if you have plenty of seeds from the 4 oc'locks I would like some. Send Kathy her's first. Plenty of room in the back to just let them go!! I love the way the smell.
You question about the quilt pattern. You don't really need one for that quilt. Decide the size you want the entire square to be, then decided how wide of a border you want to add to the center part and the size left is what you should cut the center block plus seams. Follow that?
I say Tinky will make it to atleast Wednesday, after that all bets off. What is the point of having a birthday if you can't celebrate for a week or two or three?
BJ when you finish you can come help me dig some more holes. Nice and cool now so it is pleasant being outside--just hard work digging the holes.
Morning Audrey.
Bon I hope you are feeling better. Give yourself a break and take care of the headache.
Hello Flamingo Kim good seeing you post again.
No Audrey... I didn't post the pattern...Debra got me started on this...
Last one is finished,
I made a few variations to this one ... I sandwiched two layers of flannel between the outer and lining fabrics (total 4 layers) to get a fuller ruffled fray in the seams... and I cut the straps 2", and sewed an extra two layers of 3/4" wide strips of flannel to the straps for more ruffled frays also. I also cut the flap curved where the button hole is. I'm please with how it turned out.
Sistahs n Niece..
