Quoting:
Victorgardener: Heptacodium calyxes reaching their peak.

No red on the heptacodium here yet. Blossoms were sparse and short-lived too. Think it is putting everything into growth. Over six feet tall and several feet wide now. Last Oct it was under three feet tall.

Brugmansia likes the cool October weather. From this afternoon:

Hi David. Mine took time. Be patient. Each year will get better. I did not get much for a couple of years.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Beautiful pictures, Victor! Tell that chippy he better watch out for the vulture.

David, very nice Brug.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Karen. Whenever I see a vulture overhead, I like to yell, 'Hey! It's only a cold!'

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL! Just don't play dead.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I spotted two of the water lily type colchicum blooming here yesterday... AND a tulip

if the rain didn't beat them up too badly I will go and take a picture of them

Victor I can say the hellebore is finally done with it's flowers.... and put out a ton of new growth... amazing how long they lasted

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I didn't know they bloomed so late in the year.
I have new plants, fotidus and niger, just getting their feet established.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they don't.... guess it was just a freak thing... it bloomed late spring and it held the flowers all summer... here is a shot I took on August 5th

it looked this way up until last week

wow

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it took 4 years after I planted it to bloom... but the wait payed off... hope it's like that every year... somehow I doubt it

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Victor...been very pleased with your recomendation of a heptacodium last year. It replaced a diseased magnolia which hadn't been pruned in decades (but had, I think, been hacked now and then off in a way which left it plain ugly). In a year, the heptacodium has done what I wanted--blocked the view of the electric box from the room. Its right outside the living room window so even though the blooms this first year are sparse (about a dozen) we do see butterflies and bees fliting around).

Nutsfordaylily...thank. My one and only brug. Its a new cultivar and unfortunately the vendor last year thought it could be described as "fragrant" as are most brugs. Now the term used for "Jerad's Joy" is "lightly fragrant" and even that is stretching it. But in sunkeninto the lawn in a hidden from view15 gallon grow bag, it looks neat from the road. Sure some brug people pass by wonder what it is doing in the dirt in New England.

Victor - One of the girls in work is going to give me some callicarpa - how do you like it? I thought the purple berries were very cool.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I have a callicarpa and love it. This is the third year, and the berries are a little bigger. They are the prettiest color of purple. Of course, purple is my favorite color. And I like the shape and foliage too. This is from last year, haven't taken any pics this year.

what kind of light do you have it growing in Deb?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Anita, I have it on the eastern side of a 5 ft fence, it gets about 6-7 hours of sun with afternoon shade. It has grown rather quickly, I purchased it from Bluestone and it was only a foot tall with a few branches, and small root ball. It is now about 4 ft tall and wide. Mine is Early Amythyst, which is dwarf, and early to produce berries. I think Victor has this one and another variety.
Of course, I think Victor has everything!

WHY yes - - - - - - -those are grape tomatoes.
Planted in a container on a lower level.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I do like them Anita. I have some in full sun and a some in part sun. They do need some sun. You can cut them back hard in spring if they start getting leggy. They bloom on new wood.

David - great to hear. I'm sure you will like it more and more as it develops.

Allison - that is truly amazing. See if you get any seedlings from it.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

thank you

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I keep looking at the flower heads to see if any seed pods formed... nothing yet

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

ge1836, hellebores usually keep their flowers on for a very long time. Mine last and last. I have only a few hellebores. I planted a seedling this year. Looks like I'll have a long wait for it to bloom.

Definately ordering a callicarpa in the spring---love those purple berries! My Montauk daisies are just starting to bloom.

Thanks Karen Hellebors are new to me.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They do last long, but nowhere near as long as Allison's has. Mine will usually start in March and finish in early to mid June.

dang, judging by everyones wonderful pics.... it looks as if fall is here to stay. I love fall, it's just so unfortunate that it's followed by that little thing called winter.

Why all the vultures Victor? Is your callicarpa "profusion"?

JoAnn, maybe you're up already? It sounds as though you're up and running around as if all is on schedule with the knee! This is good to hear!

Great roses Dawn and Grampapa! I really like that Halo sunrise.

Flowerjen... that squirrel is soooooo cute!

Onewish... your hummer shots are just amazing!

I'm sure that I forgot a few that I really liked. If anyone wants to grow the norway maple without problems... come on over! The weather has to be just right for them to have a good season for them to germinate. Seems to happen about only once every 7 or 8 years here. It's very rare that you see one managing to grow outside of someones yard.

I'm not sure if this hibiscus will get to unfold fully before the weather gets to it.

callicarpa, profusion I think.
