Deb that is quite a list. I started a white and purple duranta from seed and they are coming up. Just remains to be seen if I can get them through our winter as babies. LOVE the fact that you are a Kansan and taking on that list of tropicals! So sorry to hear about your friend Pauline.
All you hotties have a good day out and about and we will see you later on the thread!
She's About To...........#21
Ooops! CHINESE, never heard it called that, either, my mom grew it when I was a child... Just plain ol Hyacinth bean... but I think it's the same thing... (couldn't find a pic of the white, I'll see if I can find a bloom, tonite) What a lucky "multiply friend"... what kind of friend is that? lol tee hee hee, just kidding, I'm multipleetasking too.. lol
Joyce, I don't know... 2009? 2010? That would give us poor hotties time to save, but I'd almost get out my plastic money for a HOTTIE RU.... And Louise and I were thinking maybe it should just be a meet and get to know.... stay up late, get up early, eat and jabber, Party-ON Hotties, and give DG some down time to power up the backup server for when we all get home...., (lol) Plants may be a hassle, depending on the time of year, HEY, maybe even winter time when we don't have so much yardwork and caring for our plants to contend with... It's just in the planning stages.... HOTTIES, if this sounds like something you would and could be up for... PLEASE post your thoughts... I know there's NO WAY 1 thing could work for all of us, but hopefully we can figure something out for the majority... work calls me, it's taken too long to get this posted..
Yup that it! LOL I hoard the pods! they are edible when young.. did u know that? well i gotta go git ready to go in ( my day off?) HA! Louise I am sorry u don't feel well, but try to enjoy your day RU? I am in and am used to driving to KC, MO, And AR.. Happ we need a long time to plan this LOL ....I have to give notice at work oops was that a naughty word?? hope Clemmie is okay ... Prayers for Donna, James: u r lucky duck!, lilsis: I don't know about Y"S YET lol
BUT I spect to know soon! ya'all have a great hottie day! *hugs*
Yes I am..............lol I am just so excited about the move I can not wait
James take lots of "before" pics of the new place! Coz I KNOW you will have it in jungle status in no time! LOL I wish I had taken pics of our place before. Never even thought about it. The previous owner said to me, when I said I loved gardening, you can't grow much here! LOL If he could see the jungle now!
OH I will I love to take pictures of plants and such so I am sure you will see them...................lol
I have the same Hyancynth Bean as well, purple, but had never heard it called Asian....Deb I am sorry about your friend. Bonnie.....OMG I just realized you were talking about having morning Glory bushes and seeds!!!!! We were all going crazy last week asking Wolfie for some seeds of his and he doesn't have any.....Can I beg beg beg as a sister hottie for a couple? Wanna have a contest of some sort, hehe?
Let's ask Doe about the "thread friends" gathering she just went to? I know they just met at someone's house and ate alot, just visited and had a blast. I think they took a few gifts for each other but no big swaps. Someone in past hottie threads mentioned that they might have a connection for airline miles....I might need help if it's far away....Shamed to admit it but we could never afford for me to take a trip like that.
Sandy I love jesus, did you get the telephone message I left you after the storm? I never heard from you and was worried so.
Sandy Amiyah, It is a shame to tell you to have hope and be prepared for disappointment all in the same breath but honey I guess that is it right now....I think of you more often than you might know, and how we both named our babies Chelsea. Just stay on the strong path and give Chelsea an opportunity, but remain the "fortress" until she has proven herself.
Beckywecky, how do you doodle-do this morning? LOL! Guess I will be off.......I am worried this morning myself, as I always get the crud Donna gets when the seasons change, especially summer to Fall, and my chest is killing me this morning and I can't quit coughing. Please pray that I am well enough to enjoy my momma coming home this Saturday. I would sure hate to be in bed sick. Love you all hotties!!!
Kinda like waiting for a brug bloom James! Least you KNOW when you're moving, but I would be excited, too!
Louise, poor girl, take care and drink lots of clear fluids... (not Jack Daniels or anything like that.... least not yet anyway, lol) Hope you feel better fast. You are such a worker bee... I did get my goodies sustained and the bag of MG I bought at Wally world was soured, so I'm going to Lowes, and wally world can eat my dust, so to speak... I dumped it in a pot an will use it next spring after the seasons perk it back up for me... that will work, won't it?? I did introduce the lovely hibiscus to it's new hibicus family, and they are all blooming the best yet, this season... (could you tell me the name one more time, I promise to write it down)
See, Deb, you coulda had that Charlie G, for free from me! :)
On the HOTTIE RU: I can only imagine the excitement, us all convening at one place, I think it needs to be at least arrive on Friday and leave on Sun afternoon, maybe we could take over a whole motel (okay maybe at least a floor or 2)! I can see the marquee(sp?) now......
WELCOME Dave's Garden HOTTIES! Maybe we could even get a special guest speaker from DG HQ?????? IT would THE event of the decade, I'm sure!
Karen, no shame in that at all! We struggle financially here too...especially since the in laws came to live here and don't contribute with the bills. Love them, but it sure strains the ol' finances!
The hib is Pete's Blue. I would love this roundup to happen. What fun! I bet it would be like a gaggle of geese...all that talkin at once!! Hee hee. Bonnie try poking some holes in the bag of soil and letting it dry out. I had a bag of cactus mix that somehow got all soggy. I just poked holes, let it dry and used it. I keep telling myself to get a cheap water tight plastic trash can to put my soil in....but still leave the bags all sitting around.
Karen.. :) I called it Japanese and Asian, Deb called it Chinese. I don't have morning glory bush, Deb does, I think and Wolfie offered it out a thread or 2 ago... I'll check my bean seed inventory, too.
Becky, keep us posted on Mama's surgery date, cause we'll send positive thoughts and prayers your way....
Sandy, Sandy, Sandy! No one is TRYING to talk you into anything! ;) (lol)- and I couldn't send a box with JUST 1 rooted cutting....that would be a waste of space AND postage! The thing with plants IS: If at first you don't succeed, try try try again.. seek and find a way that works for you. I've not given up on the clerodendrum, (my sticks never grew roots and I killed a whole gorgeous plant) but from the looks of my fancy begonias I moved inside, I'm JUST about ready to give up on them..
I am in for a break... let me explain on the H-o-u-s-e-w-o-r-k- thing..LOL We have to go to "work" in order to pay bills and buy more plants.. that is OK... We have to "work" in the yard.. but that is pleasure.. so it's Not really like work.. right?? NOW the bad work... Yes we all have to do it.. BUT it isn't fun and doesn't "produce" the pleasure that we get from working outside. We want to have fun here, when we come home.. that kind of "work" is mundane at it's best.. and sometime back.. many threads ago.. I teased Bonnie I think it was about cussing.. when she used the inside work word... and to make it a shorter version.. it kinda stuck.. and we kinda like it that way..LOL... Naturally.. not everything we post will be pleasurable, but we are family
I get sooo side tracked outside..LOL and lookie what I have...these are at the very top.. sorry about the dead leaves... but I am seeing some of seed pods too.. I just can't believe that the MG's made it.. not all of them did.. but the red and the streaked ones did so far as I know.. YAY! I am not sure when I need to collect the seed pods, so someone LMK
weese.. soo sorry you aren't feeling better!!
Karen... hope you aren't getting sick either.. gotta get well girl.. the RU is around the corner!!
James.. please keep coming home HERE.. saves me some lurking time trying to find you..lol
Deb.. isn't it a wonderful feeling when you are with your MIL?? Can be tiring and frustrating too.... but you will have memories no one else has.. pretty pics BTW
Bonnie... hopefully the Hottie RU can be far enough in advance so we all can save our pennies..LOL
LOL I am here to stay I think not to worry......................James
Hello Hotties.
Just taking a break from work. Oh boy, today that is my dirty word. Computers been down, etc, etc., so it's going to be a 12-hour day to get in 8-hours of work. Yuck!!
Deb, I think that is the vine Wolfie was talking about, or that is what I thought of when he asked. They are so beautiful and look like a climbing fern.
Clem, have fun visiting the colleges. Phyllis, you can blame it on me anytime. :) Glad you found some plumeria you liked.
Okay, back to the work computer. Ours is blocked so we cannot get out of the hospital system. So, no DG at work for us. Peg
AH! pretty Becky, but I just can't seem to like them as much as the old fashioned round bloom kind... AM I getting old? And not wanting to change my outlook?? Try something new?? or what?? That's amazing considering the hurricane and tornado action you've had... and I like how you explained the Hottie Rule... YAHOO, we have James and Wolfie and Mike, we're glad you're all here... and hope to see you all more often! Mike? ya lurkin? (saw you over there on another brug thread ;) And how bout Marion??? waaaa I think she fergot about us! Melissa, you tell 1anjl or whoever she is now, we miss her, too, and we understand when hotties get busy and preoccupied, but just like my kids... you can always come home, anytime, least for a visit. I need to grab a bite and buy more paper...
Oh what a cute froggie! The H word here is a very bad word! I do all the work in my house! Four adults and I am the house slave! Oh guess I am a little cranky since I am sick!
James are you on the address exchange with your new address? All the hotties need to send you some house warming prezzies! Hee hee
Hello Hotties!!!
I'm gonna try to stay caught up on the thread now that I've tracked ya'll back down :o)
Bonnie- You all are planning on a Hottie RU?? Oh wow, what a great idea!! All I gotta say is wherever you all finally decide to have it better be prepared for one heck of a hottie party!!LOL!!
Becky- You ned to share pics of your tree froffie with the "Nuts" or at least let me "borrow" a pic of him to post of the opening of a new thread...purty pwease.... hee hee
Okay, I wanna go play in the dirt today ut the weather gal said it was gonna be 97 today..UGH!! That's not dirt playin' weather :o(
I know this is the "brug" forum, but has anyone here grown Black-Eyed Susan "vines"?? I found some really neat seeds on ebay of 4 diff colos in a collectin and wanna know if anyone has tried them before.
TTYaL ~melissa :o)
Melissa, WE're planning a hottie Ru, convention, party something... it's SO fun to meet in person! I know wherever we have it, it will never be the same, only better... I've had BES vines and Louise had a real different colored one she shared with me at the RU.. I grew white ones on my versi "tree" brug this year, but no blooms, cause versi shaded them too much and I bought a little plant of one called Blush something this year and it bloomed it's little head off, I need to check for seeds on it... What colors are in your collection? I had a pink one a few years ago, but it didn't do well and only gave me 3 blooms all summer... haven't seen it on the market since..
Becky I WOVE yur wittle frogg I mean froffie (tee hee Melissa;) let her use it for a new thread pic! I've had 3 frogs in my stock tank pond all summer, they are so cute... and toads in the garden, too... they are all bug eaters and cute to boot!
Yep, Louise, James new address IS in the addr xchng, cause I had him double check before I send Maya to him. Are you feeling better this afternoon, Louise?
Meant to say sorry to Peg for the work problems, 12 hrs is TOO long, glad you were able to check in and hope the afternoon goes better...
Louise, Pete's Blue.... could this be the blue hibiscus Karen and Linda Kay have on the want list??? Karen? Linda Kay?
I might need to edit that again, so we've concluded that Wolfie's Hummingbird vine is Cardinal Climber? I sent some of those seeds to Poland, years ago, and Marek sent me tiny plants of yellow water iris, which I still have and enjoy... even got a seed pod this year.. wonder if it's good? That is also who I got the Iochroma seed from, but never had any luck with the iochroma..
Okay, work computers down. So, I'm back.
You'll can keep your frogs, believe me. Our pool attracts them every spring, keeps us up at night with the bulls out there puffing and huffing and all the little females swimming around trying to decide who they want. Then you end up with strings of frog eggs in your concrete swimming hole. No fun!!
Louise, hang in there. Us house slaves got to stick together. Keith is a great man in many ways, but that man has never walked into a grocery store since we got married, or dusted or vaccuumed. I finally made him do his laundry once, let him run out of workclothes. The look on his face was priceless when he figured out he didn't have a stitch to wear to work. He claims all of my appliances are "computerized" and he does not know how to use them. :) But I'm the one that spoiled him and whew, how do you "UN" spoil them? Most of the time it doesn't bother me, but sometimes it just goes all over me. Like when I'm trying to do 20 things at once.
Now, I've got a real serious question here. What is the best thing to mail seeds in? I can't come up with any kind of small container that would be best. Ziplocks are too big, I don't have pill bottles, I would drive myself nuts making little envelopes with paper and tape.. (first, I would kill myself trying to make them all the same size, then they would have to be decorated somehow, then they would need to be color-coordinated... I can make a half-hour project turn into an all-day ordeal if I don't watch myself!) So, all of my Hotties, I am sure one of you knows a real simple answer to this. Let me know, okay? Peg
Yes I am on the exchange with my new address.........lol I can not wait to move only 2 more days before I do.
James
Hi all. I would love a "hotties" meeting! If I know far enough in advance, anytime would work for me. Just have to have time to put in for leave if necessary. Let's DO plan something for 2009!!!!
HOTTIES, I HAVE SOME SEEDS THAT A COUPLE OF U MIGHT LIKE. PINK AND YELLOW 4 O'CLOCKS. THEY WOULD B VERY PRETTY IN UR FLOWER BEDS NEXT SPRING. IF YA WANT SOME, UST LET ME KNOW ON THIS THREAD. THOSE D=MAILS R SO HARD TO GET BACK FROM. JUST UR MAILING ADDY AHD REAL NAME IS ALL I NEED.
AUNTB, DO U REALLY THINK I'M GONNA "SNIP" MY ROYAL BLUE LOCHROMA THIS YEAR............NOT!!! BUT I PROMISE U THAT IF U R A GOOD HOTTIE, I WILL DEFINATLY SEND U A COUPLA STARTS NEXT YEAR.
THE BRUG CUTTINGS (6 PINK) WILL B READY TO GO SOON. ANY TAKERS?
Wolfie, NO, I sure didn't expect you to... I knew I could Razzz you about it, so I did... ;) I WILL be a good Hottie, Wolfie..I promise! I know the rule! ;) And don't you listen to Clemmen or Becky or Peg or any of them other Hotties... I think we got that one Sandy straightened out ;) so WE'RE ALL good. THANK YOU! I know poor Deb has a wilted one she just dug up on her hands.. I even offered to take the top of that one off her hands...... to see if I could save it for her ;) - Oh, but I was just kidding..
Peg, I bought some little craft ziplocks at Hobbie Lobbie about 3 or 4 years ago, they are about 2in X2in or so, and work great, reasonable price and I'm still using them, so there must have been a lot in the pkg...
Want list: I have 2 pink brugs, 1 Pink Beauty and the other NOID. Also have 2 white NOID, so any color anyone has extra of, I will gladly pay postage. Thank you so much.
Faye
how about a plain letter-sized envelope? I usually have a bubble envelope I recycle to send them out in..
Bonnie- these are the BES vines in the collection I found..... (I just copied what the store has posted... they sure are purty :o)
Black-Eyed Susan Vine 1957. Thunbergia alata - The original Susan, with sunny yellow-gold petals and bold black eyes!
White-Eyed Susie 2007. Black-eyed white blooms, 1¼ to 1½ inches wide, make a formal statement in any setting! This vine reaches 5 to 8 feet tall.
Sunrise Surprise 1940 - Vintage tones of apricot, salmon, rose, and ivory, all overlaid with a creamy antique look.
Blushing Susie 1902 - A mix of red and rose shades, with a few pink and salmon blooms tossed in for contrast.
Faye, I added you to the list and have you covered for a peach color brug cutting.. You Hottie's wanting those roses need to specify what kind... Rose of Sharon? Lenten Rose? Rose scented candle? ;) And Cat, any hydrangea? I know we have more than 16 hotties, so What is the ONE plant you other hotties are yearning for? We may not be able to supply each other (actually I think we're doing pretty good), but we sure can post on the thread when we're out and about or surfing the internet and see a deal...
Wow Melissa, that is a nice Combo Susan pack! I didn't realize the pink/red ones were so old.. They will be fun to watch..
I know right??LOL... okay I'm gonna do it...SOLD!!LOL
oh gees, ebay is a bad bad place ;o)
Could you put seeds on some type of tape to mail. May not be able to get them off!!! Don't know.
Thank you AuntB. It will be another treasure.
Faye- I pack all my seeds in small glassine envelopes, or even the small little 2x2 ziptop bags (but the plastic causes static, especially for the tiny seeds) I can mail you a some of the glassine ones, so you can see if you like them. JLMK....I have a ton
I have mailed in padded envies and not...just depends on who it is going to. I have used regular envies too with taped paper towel envies inside for padding.
MELISSA! Don't use me to justify your cravings being fed on ebay, young lady... lol (always glad to do what I can to help a fellow Hottie) sides, I've banned myself from ebay... well... er.... I can ONLY look, I have to find a way to beg or trade for my yearnings..
hee hee hee
actually, see I got this ebay buying finally figured out.... DH had me list all the crap we brought back from the Comic-Con this year, sooooo now there's money in HIS paypal account, sooooo now I get to buy the stuff I want (under his name of course) after all it was poor little ol' me who did all the listing ;o)
Wonderful stradegy Lissa! I like that. I remember now when you were going to the comic-con.. I mentioned it to my Melissa and she was envious.. I think that's a fair deal! poor lil lissa the lister, you.. :)
