Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheesh...it's only 76 outside right now, and I'm sweating like it's 100... had to come in and wash the salty sweat out of my eyes... I'm dieing here.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, back to work...
No tilling today... Don's gone to Lowes to get the stuff to build me an arbor for a sweet autumn clematis to climb over the gate to the secret garden (formerly the back yard)...
I'm soooooo excited.

Doing a Bon.. waving ^_^..

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Couldn't sleep last night. Had the worst food allergy and body won't stop itching till past 4 this morning, after 2 Benadryls of course.
I traced it down to shellfish :( That's truly disheartening as I love all forms of shellfish. Had mussels last night, about 2 dozens of them. I had them before and no reaction. So, will be staying away from them for a long while!
Don't worry Stacey, Uncle Kel had a hamburger.

How about a rustic gate with those limbs, Debra?

Congrats Sis, on your baby. Do you innoculate your chicks? Just curious.

Cute, cute, cute raccoons!!! Wonder if raccoons make good pets?

Thanks for the tea and rolls Phyllis. Tea will help calm my stomach too.

Won't we all love to see BJ's secret garden? With her creative mind, I'm sure it will be beautiful.
OK.. time for me to be outdoors..

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't wait to see it too... if I ever get it done.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Jaye-I hope you feel better soon:)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

^_^ just trying to see if it works.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

OMG it did!!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, Don didn't get lumber to build an arbor... he lucked out and found one on the "clearance" bin... it's made out of pvc, and has a few pieces missing... but they marked it down from $150 to $30, and we have some scrap lumber to fill in the missing parts... it'll never show, and has nothing to do with how sturdy it is... It's going to be really nice.

Now, I'm watching paint dry again...

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL, BJ - what do you do with yourself while watching paint dry? Good buy on the arbor!

Jaye, wish there were enough limbs to make a gate or arbor but I only have about 4 pieces. The longest is 3-4' long and the others are shorter. Someone beat me to the largest piece, darn it.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

^_^

mmm must be gremlins in my keyboard as I used the underline last time and it didn't work LOL

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

use them to make a small gate like the size for a wall hangin or fairy garden size then you can decorate it with flowers and such and hang it on the wall or use it in the garden

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

That's a good idea! Will have to take a look at what I've got and see if that will work. Bet there are some more smaller pieces left to be picked up. May have to go back and see.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh Oh... got another idea... actually a play off of Phyllis' idea, really.

Tie them together at the corners... like a window frame... then hang a stained glass hung by two eye hooks on each top corner inside the window frame... then hang that whole thing from a branch of a big tree. I've seen real antique wooden windows done like that with the window panes removed... it looks really nice.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ooo cool BJ like that idea but all I have here is winged elm and pine LOL ...birch would be really neat that way

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Ok, hopping in the Mule and headed up the road to see what other pieces are left .......

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

hehehe can just picture that ride and dreamin how nice it would be to have a couple of horses or mules that could be rode and a place to ride them

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL! Phyllis, this is a Kawasaki Mule - a four wheel drive vehicle. Wish we had some real mules or donkeys. This is our former rooster, Dewey, with the Mule. He used to follow me around when I drove it.

Seems like everyone has been MIA this weekend:)

For anyone that is interested in the halloween swap-here is a link to it-it is Juanita's 1st swap:)

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Debra... my son has a red mule like that.. don't know what brand it is, but they use it all over his farm... is a life saver...

Yep, it's been quiet this weekend for sure.

Jaye, you feeling any better sistah?

Well, we got the arbor up, and it does look good, but bare right now... got to get a sweet autumn clematis now to climb it. A lady in Ark is sending me one (or some) for postage next week... I'm very excited now.
Tomorrow, Don and I are going to Dallas to get a few things.. got several stops to make, and will probably meet his daughter for dinner... So, I'm going to be MIA tomorrow.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Sounds like a fun day though:) You will be beat when you all get home!! I can't wait to see the new arbor-I have been dreaming of one for a while now:)

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

BJ, who is sending you the clematis? Anyone I know? Is Sweet Autumn clematis the evergreen one? I've seen photos of it completly taking over an arbor. It must be a strong climber. Have fun in Dallas and enjoy dinner.

Stacey, bet a lot of us were working outside today. It's been great weather here.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Never mind - I saw your thread. Big Red. Talk about crafty! Have you seen some of her handiwork? She does the neatest stuff with 'trash to treasure' type things and is very bold in using paint colors.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Nope, haven't seen her work... but she's kind enough to send me some seedlings for postage... and I'm very proud to get them.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ok well first thought was animal mule not 4 wheeler mule LOL

we need one of those around here with the way DH does stuff but I think a rototiller will come first

Bj do ya know if they can be rooted from cuttings? I have a couple growing on my fence I got from DDtex in Jacksonville last spring and if cuttings work I can take some and bring them to ya at the RU

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I worked outside for a litttle bit too-begrudgingly ripped out annuals, weeded, mulched-only for a couple hrs-I had cleaning and crafting to do too:) I have some seed to collect, some plants to get in the ground, a small bed finished and bulb planning to do so I can just plop em in after the 1st hard frost:)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Phyllis you can easily root cutting of vines-just take a garden staple and push one of the vines into the ground and hold it in w/ the staple-make sure it is like at least an inch in-wait a couple mos-come back and you should have a rooted cutting:)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

BJ ya want some cuttings from mine too?

got honey suckle the native one that is a coral pink color and trumpet vine too ..oh and have snail vine and morning glories too

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

That's what I'm doing with my hydrangeas Stacey... it's called layering... had several low limbs that just wanted to lay on the ground, so I scratched a little dirt over the top of them, layed a brick on that, and they're now rooted... but, before I move them, I'll cut them away from the parent plant, and let them feed on their own for a month, then move them... I have a whole nother bed ready and waiting to put them.

thanks Phyllis... but I've already made a deal with the lady in Ark... and I don't know how many she's sending... said "they" are in a 1 gal pot already.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'd love some trumpet vine, but I don't have anywhere to put it just yet... maybe later on, or in the spring... but don't cut any for me yet.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

okie dokie will hold off then ...just say when and you got it as it has cover the one archway behind the shed just this spring summer alone

Raleigh, NC
