What is a golden egg tree? I don't find it in the plant files?

ET Fall RU 10-11-08 Trade List Pt. 3
Linda, look under easter egg plant. It is a neat little tree that blooms purple flowers that then produce white fruit that looks like an egg. As the fruit ripens it turns yellow. It is supposed to be edible but I haven't tried it yet. I get a lot of questions about it. I planted four seeds two weeks ago and all four have germinated. Two germinated in five days. One in ten days and the last in 14.
what I have read on it before it would be a neat plant to have around if only for conversation
could I get some seed for it and some of the columbine seeds?
I saw it, and it is part of the egg plant family, I think I saw. Pretty interesting! May I have some seeds please, if you have any extra?
Thanks
Linda Kay
Absolutely Mibus
You may have some seeds Linda. I know you and Mibus2 will enjoy them.
Texasgrower, May I have a few of the cannas with coral flowers? See my list offers anything that you need.
Charlene
Texasgrower yes please look at the trade lists and see if there is anything anyone has that you would like for a trade for what you bring.
Texasgrower, For some of the egg tree and columbine seeds i'll surprise you with a plant i'm sure you'll like.
Well!! you did say you wanted a surprise. LOL
Vickie
Vickie, You may be out of egg tree seeds by now, but if you have some left, could I get a few? Pam
Charlene, I will bring you some of the cannas. They get quite tall. May I have one of your ham and egg lantanas?
Mibus2, speaking of lists... do you still have Red Texas hibiscus seeds? I'd like to try a couple.
Cando1, you have columbine and egg tree seeds coming. And I do love surprises!
Catlady, It's me, Texasgrower who has the egg tree seeds and I have enough for you. If you have tiger lilies left I'd like one or two please.
I hope I got everyone correct. If I didn't let me know.
I can't wait to meet everyone and learn more about plant care from you.
Jeanne

Jeanne you got it on the Texas start seeds
To edit your trade list, click on the link by your name at the top of this thread. Then click on "In reply to: ET Fall RU 10-11-08 Trade List" near the top of the page. That will take you to your trade list that can be edited. Click on "edit," which is at the bottom of what's printed in the left column. (Somebody figured this out when the North Texas group first started using the links).
Patricia.. yeah I did that.. but it takes me back to the Etx thread.. not my trade list. That's ok cause I sent it to my email addy so I can copy it. I would like for everyone to LMK if I missed anyone though. I know there are several I didn't list there cause I also have a hand written list in my note book.. but want to make sure it is up to date!!
We are getting close now.. and I don't want to be out digging with a flashlight the night before..lolol
Jeanne, I have your lantana.
Charlene
great Charlene and Mibus2, I can't wait to grow your plants.
hey, I also have bi-color butterfly bushes. Are the seeds harvetable? I mean are they sterile? If not I can bring some of those. I would like to try and grow some from seed.
Jeanne.. I am looking forward to meeting you... see if there is something on my list I can bring you!!
hello everyone!!
Jeanne, Please save me some cuttings of your bi-color butterfly bush. I found the following link that may be helpful for propagation of it.
http://www.recipegoldmine.com/gardengary/butterfly-bushes.html
Charlene
Jeanne, did I already ask for some of your butterfly bush? I can't remember, haha!
Okay, I just have to step in here about the butterfly bushes. I don't know about seeds, or if they'll come true. But I just propagated mine from cuttings for the second year, and it was so easy that I had to mention it. Mine root in about 30 seconds (LOL). I didn't do everything listed in Charlene's article. I just took cuttings about 5-6 inches long and put them in normal potting soil, in a cut-in-half Coke bottle, and replaced the lid. After 5-6 days I noticed that they were blooming (!!), so I took the top half off and checked for roots. They were well-rooted, so I potted them up and put them back in some sun.
Mine also does not stay evergreen, like the article says, but is deciduous instead. But it does grow about as fast as the article said. Right now there are monarchs all over it.
I don't think we can stop asking, but I would like a try at the butterfly bush if you have enough cuttings, seeds...
Thanks
Linda Kay
Ok guys. I am so new at this. Last week I took my first herbaceus stem cuttings of my surfinias as per instructions from a nice person on another forum. (I had to ask what herbaceus stem cutting meant) I am learning very fast from this site. Anyway, they seem to be doing real well. I didn't use any root hormone. I just stuck them in Miracle Grow potting soil.
Now do I take cuttings from the bi-solor the same way. Cut off soft wood from the base instead of the tip and remove 3 to 4 leaves and stick in potting soil? It's the cutting part I'm not sure of. I like pbtxlady's use of the bottles.
I will try to get everyone cuttings. I will also bring seeds. I did some research on old forums and apparently you can germinate seed. One said the seeds are so fine that most people crush the entire stalk and pod into soil. Another said to sow the seeds on top of the soil and don't cover. Place in the fridge for 4 weeks and then put in a warm place. Brrrrr.
I am going to try and germinate seeds. These bushes came from Park Seed as cuttings. They survived freezing temps on my front porch last winter in their little pots and even bloomed.
Let me know how to cut oh master gardeners. Your pupil eagerly awaits. Jeanne
Becky, I am looking forward to meeting you too along with all these other great folks. I have "ditch" day lillies galore. The orangish/yellow ones. They multiply like cannas. Are these the kind you are looking for? If so, I can bring you some. If not, ok too. Yes, there is one thing I would like off your list, the rose of sharon. Actually I would have loved the quince, but alas too late. That will be for another season. Thanks, Jeanne
Jeanne, here is another helpful article that you might benefit from.

Jeanne.. I'll put your name down on the rose of sharon, and I might could get you some cuttings of the quince. they are easy to root. In fact I could start them tomorrow, if you want me to!!LMK... I have the ditch daylilies..TY.. but they are the ones that first got me interested in them

DD
DD, I would like to have some Yarrow-white bloom fern leaf if you still have any.
Jeanne, Could I get a cutting of your butterfly bush too? If you have enough...
DD me too please on the Yarrow-white bloom fern leaf if enough to do so if not not problem can always get some later.
Becky I would love a cutting of the quince. Thank you so much.
ok Charlene, I took my cuttings this a.m. as per instructions. I got the rooting powder and bottles like pbtxlady. But I slipped mine into plastic zip locks. They look good. Nobody is drooping. So with any kind of luck I'll have cuttings for those who have already asked. If not, then I will have only seeds.
BJ I have a cutting for you too, I hope.
Texasgrower, the ziploc bags should work just fine. But I can't take credit for that tip. Patricia (patrob) taught me that a couple of years ago. Anything that won't root without it, I try that way, and so far, everything seems to love a little "greenhouse." So thanks to Pat. :)
Just don't let the sun shine on the cuttings inside the bags or bottles. Cooks them. Pattie, I never thought about using the bottom part of the coke bottle. That is a great improvement. Cut most of the way around, use a bit of packing tape to put the bottle back together, and water through the cap if needed. There's more growing room for roots than in a small styrofoam cup. And less plastic in the trash compactor.
Texasgrower, if you have another cutting of the bicolor butterfly bush to spare, I'd love to have it.
So, Pat, what have you been using? Do you just plant it in a cup and then put the soda lid on top?
Actually, I cut the whole top off the bottle. It would work better your way, because it's a pain to force the lid back on. But somehow I can never seem to keep the whole bottle in one piece. So I save my lids and my bottoms. Green Squirt tops are a hoot with clear DP bottoms. :) I don't care, as long as it roots!
Another thing besides keeping it out of the sun. I lost 99 of 100 lantana cuttings last spring because I didn't take the dome off soon enough, and they rotted (like between Saturday night and Monday morning). Some things root fast and then don't need the moisture.
I used Ziploc bags when I made my first attempt at rose cuttings. It worked just about the same way.
I have been using all but the very bottom of the bottle as a dome over a cutting in a styrofoam cup. The three-liter bottles work well for longer cuttings or even 4" pots. I've had the rot thing happen too. Sometimes just taking the cap off the top helps excess moisture escape and keep just enough inside for good growing.
I also have the white Datura seeds to add to my list if anyone needs any
