DAILY PICS VOL. 139

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Nice selection of photos everyone. I have been seeing an incredible number of Double-crested Cormorants. One Cormorant in particular was putting on a fishing exhibition to the dismay of the line of fishermen on the adjacent shoreline. Here is his catch-of-the day !!!

These cormorants are a little out of focus, but I thought they were so cute sitting like that

I was shooting the downy and didn't even notice the house sparrow right next to it. The birds just love this knocked over tree; I saw mockingbirds, blue jays, doves, sparrows, cardinals, woodpeckers, and my new addition (I think a yellow throated vireo) all in that tree in one morning. Must be dining on insects??

Is that a nuthatch?? Whitebreasted? SO cool

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes it is. I'm sorry to have forgotten that. Frequent and funny visitors here except absent all summer. Perhaps hiding in cooler wooded areas.

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

Are yours friendly/shy? When I was up in Montana there were lots of Red-breasted NH around the cabin, and they seemed rather fearless. I have a cool video I will upload (once I go back to my house) of one that sat RIGHT NEXT TO ME and just stared for 2 minutes. They were undaunted by humans.... and seemed almost attracted to us. I wish they were here :(

I think they are pretty friendly. for birds that is.

Last May I had a Red-breasted here just one day. I did not get a picture because it was a heavy thunderstorm and just too dark. I hope it comes back this year, I know they were in the area for the Backyard bird count.

I was saving this pix for the captions page, but I can't think of anything funny. so here's something to chuckle about.
