Oooo, Marna the color combo in that is so right on...need to frame that one!

Ditto that! What a beautiful pic.

PERTH, Australia

Thanks for the new thread, Mrs Ed. Gorgeous bird. I understand they have quite a loud call and love peanuts. LOL.

I've just spent a few minutes on the phone to Rose (135 minutes to be precise). She still doesn't have her computer but her frustration levels have increased to the point where she's about to buy a new one. She sends her best wishes to everyone, is in serious DG withdrawals and has 3,000 pics to post. She'll probably need her own internet site.

She's asked me to let you know of just some of the birds she's been seeing, in addition to her Cardinals, Hummingbirds and Bluebirds. (Ho hum).

She's seen an Americal Kestrel and was blown away by its beautiful colouration. She has seen a Yellow Billed Cuckoo FOUR TIMES. She has also seen CEDAR WAXWINGS and a Bobwhite quail. Oh, and the Goldfinches are changing colour.

She was having a good chuckle that she only had to ring Australia to get this information to y'all. I told her I'd be adding the "u" to color.

My contribution is of one of my favourites, a Red Wattlebird. These birds are equally at home upside down, but then I guess they are Australian.

Good to hear the news! Bobwhite Quail is a good one to get, not easy.

Is the wattlebird collecting spider webs for nest material?

Resin

PERTH, Australia

Yes Resin, more than likely. They build quite a neat nest of twigs, fibre, feathers and spider webs and generally have two, sometimes three babies. I've reared many baby Wattlebirds over the years and they are utterly adorable.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Lovely start to the thread Mrs_Ed! I can see everyone now rushing out to buy plants full of flower, under which they will strategically place peanuts, lol.

Wow Margaret, the Red Wattlebird blends with the tree colouring so well. What a chance catch that was, I had wondered if it was eating a spider but it is nesting time there. Looks to be a few ants around it too. I sincerely hope Rose has a cheap call plan, did anyone warn her that Aussies can talk, and talk, and talk... LOL!

This male House Sparrow gave me an inquisitve look, or was it a warning, as it landed on the guttering about to go under the tiles with it's prize peanut!

Beautiful start Mrs Ed!

Great catch on the Wattlebird Margaret!

Nice shot of the House Sparrow wallaby!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

We had 4 days of sunshine so I took the opportunity to get some pics, albeit on the peanuts, trees still have too many leaves to get them there. This Blue Tit spotted me, perhaps wondering why I was in a different place to usual!

Thanks pelle!

In came a Great Tit with a thud, it might appear he was wanting to push the Blue Tit out, it thought so too! Truth is there is a broken wire on the other side, and the Great Tit always goes to it straight off to get his nut and fly off! I don't think the Sparrows have thought about it yet!

You can see the Blue Tit is starting to get worried.

Rose will certainly need her own thread by the time she gets back online. Got some pics this morning in between rainshowers. Here is an Osprey.

Thanks Pelle, nanny and wallaby. Here's another shot of the same Wattlebird.

Wallaby I keep on wanting to comment on the birds you've posted today, but each time I type anything, it sounds risque. LOL Great shots!

nanny, I want to accompany you one one of your walks. What a range of birds you see. And what a range of birds see you!

OOOOOW! GP, we were posting at the same time. I didn't dare enlarge your Osprey shots for fear of losing what I'd said. I'll look now. BTW, the last sound I heard before I hit the sack last night was of Kookaburras chortling in the distance.

Nice shots, GP. The Woodpecker is beautiful, as is the Whie Winged Dove. Love the Grackle.

Melbourne, FL

Thanks Margaret. I meant to ask you, what is the Wattlebirds preferred food? Seeds or fruits?

PERTH, Australia

Primarily nectar and insects. They fly under the eaves of the house looking for spiders. Recently I've seen them taking bees. I've never seen this before (not to say that it hasn't happened).

Melbourne, FL

I figured it was looking all over the bush for fruit....it's actually searching for insects!

Oh my gosh...is this a Eastern Towhee still around??? Looks like it's still molting maybe.

Nanny, that is one not-so-good looking towhee. Don't tell him I said that.

Always love the red birds, and great shot of the Carolina wren Elphaba.
Margaret did you spike that bird's feathers, before you took that picture of the Waddlebird. LOL You did a good job!!!
GP now I see why, the Red-Bellied Woodpecker got it's name.
