very pretty Iris
Iris, CUT IT OUT! *jealously drools*
I gotta get one of those tubes. LOL.
I have had fun watching mine go from feeder to all the flowers. I'm sure glad I planted a bunch. They are going to others that were not planted for them either. Morning glories, zinnias, cosmos and petunias. I wish the phlox were still going strong.
I can't get good photos of hummingbirds with my point and shoot camera, but I was searching for tips and I found some great sites. It all sounds french to me, but I did read about the shutter speeds not needing to be high, that it's something to do with flash. Also they talked about those tubes. They have lots of great tips for setting up basically a "hummingbird studio" lol. http://www.dyesscreek.com/miscellaneous_pages/hummingbird_photography.html & http://www.moosepeterson.com/phototips/hummingbirds.html Which doesn't seem to be loading at the moment.
Thnks for the great links Meredith!
Oh thanks! I'll have to study this as I am not having luck at all.
I have the Fuji Finepix S8000 which is a point & shoot. It was only in the last 2-3 months playing around with settings that I started to get better pics. I use shutter priority mode all the time now.
We had this thread going in the wildlife forum. It was very helpful! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/875312/
pelletory, onewish1, Mrs_Ed, Thanks! Seeing as they are going from feeders to flowers, You should try sitting by the flowers for a photo maybe. I do that, And they come to drink at the flowers and I get some shots, If you sit really still they come pretty close to drink at the flowers ( They do for me anyway) I was actually standing by the flower bed getting pictures of bees and a hummingbird came right over to the flowers ( Picture at bottom) I moved slowly and followed him with the lens and got the shot. It's hard for me as I always "Ónly use manual" on my camera, So I have to adjust everything before I take any photos , So if I have it set for clouds/shade and the sun comes out through the clouds, I have to re-adjust, Even if the light goes brighter or darker, I have to re-adjust, Plus while following the bird I have to keep refocusing ( Unless they are sitting still).. A learning Experience! But, I do get some good shots sometimes.
Meredith79, Thanks for posting the links, I'll have to look at them fully when I have time, They seem like they'll be good!
nanny_56, I'll have to check out that thread later, Thanks for posting it. I sometimes use my point and shoot camera and it usually gets decent photo's ( It's an Olympus c-750 Ultrazoom) I'm going to try it out on the hummingbirds and see what I come up with.
Here's the standing photo... ( Sorry Mrs_Ed)
