North Central Texas Fall Roundup Trade Thread #3

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Got you down! Josephine, the columbine seeds I planted haven't come up yet. Do you just want me to bring you some seeds?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

That's o.k. Stephanie I don't want to mess with seeds, but thank you for offering.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Stephanie....I would love a Pigeonberry also; see if there is something I can bring you.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay Sheila! I have you down!

For anyone else, I'll have to check to see how many, if anymore I can find!

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

What kind of columbine were you looking for Josephine?I have the native red and the yellow ones

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Josephine, I also may be able to find a couple of the yellow columbines that I promised to you & Kim. I sure thought they were dead, but they're making a comeback. If I can find some seedlings, I'll bring them.

I also have a few ruellia Katie's Blue volunteers. I'll dig them if anyone is interested. Being dug this late, they will wilt and may lose their leaves, but they'll be back.

I've finished packaging up everything else and am looking for extras now. Please, everyone, check my list if I promised you something, just to make sure I didn't forget.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Pattie~do the blue Katie's stay small like the pink? If so, I'll take one.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

banana...if you have red columbine I would love one!

:) Kim

North Richland Hills, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila - do you still have (and are still planning to bring) either the Canna ‘Florence Vaughn’ or the Canna (Tall burgundy leaf /orange noid)? If so, can I have one or both? Please look over my list to see if there's anything of mine you'd like.

Thanks!
Jennifer

O.K. guys, we are getting very close.
The post at he top of this thread has the link to the park location and directions on how to get there.
If you need more instructions please let me know.
We start at 12 noon to give people coming from out of town a chance to get there on time.

Please check what food or supplies you are supposed to bring and consider the # of people, about 50.

Print your plant trade list and label each plant on your already traded list with the name of the plant and the person you are giving it to, in order to avoid confusion later. Keep those plants separate, you will have a place for those, under the table in your designated space with your name on it,
Label your not traded plants with plant names, so that if you trade them or give them away, people won't have to guess what they are, place those plants on top of the table.
Keep handy the list of plants you are supposed to receive and from whom, so you don't forget to collect the plants that have been promised to you.

As you arrive pull your car close to the pavilion entrance, come to the sign in table, put your name and the names of your guests on the list, get your name tag, and pay your share of the rental fee.
I estimate $4.00 per member will cover it, guests do no pay.

Volunteer helpers will help you take your plants to your place and your food and door prizes to the appropriate tables. PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO BRING ONE ITEM FOR EACH PERSON IN YOUR PARTY.
After you unload please move your car to a parking space so as to let other members do the same operation.
This will allow us to operate smoothly and avoid confusion.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

# 1 EAT LUNCH
#2 DOOR PRIZES
#3 HAVE FUN VISIT AND TRADE TO YOU HEARTS CONTENT.

I hope to see you all there.
Your friend;
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have been busy all day digging and potting; came up with some other items not on my list. Any interest in these?

8 trades of White Butterfly Ginger (two rhizomes each) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1297/

4 trades of Firecracker Plant Cuphea ignea (rooted this summer)
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1333/

5 trades of Indigo Spires Salvia (rooted this summer) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54677/

4 trades of Flame Vine http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1329/

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila, I'll take a firecracker plant. And, did you have some native veronica you were going to bring me?

Stephanie

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Stephanie, yes--there's Katie's Blue and Katie's Pink, and as far as I know, they are identical except for the flower color. I've put your name on one of the blue ones.

You don't happen to have any of the pink ones left, do you? I mean, not that I NEED more ruellia, exactly, LOL, But they're so pretty.

Sheila! You gave me the butterfly ginger last fall, and it has just grown and grown and been lovely all summer. But I was wondering if it was going to bloom for me. Found a bud on it just an hour ago. I'm so excited!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Pattie~I have the pink ruellia left and I'll put you down for one (or more if they don't all get taken!). Thanks for the blue!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I've updated my trade list with what I'm bringing for everyone. Please check it to make sure I have you down accurately!

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5441795

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Stephanie! By the way, I do have more than one blue ruellia, if you want more than one. You should know, though, that if you have one, you WILL have dozens.

Edited to add: Stephanie, I also had you on my list for pink skullcap. I do have two little ones that I think have actually rooted. But, Cocoa stopped by my house earlier this week and brought me some, and said she has some for you too. Hers are definitely rooted, and they're bigger and look better than mine. She took good care of us both. :)

I noticed that a few people are still looking for rock roses. I have 3, maybe 4, that I am bringing for Charlene tomorrow. If she doesn't have anyone to pick up her trades, then these will be extras. I'll dig her some more later and get them to her.

I am also bringing seeds from the rock roses and coneflowers. Both of these can be direct sowed and germinate very easily, and both will mature in one season.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Pat yes I have you down for both and ummm anything bulbs ...lilies....seeds that will bloom spring-summer .....or nothing if things are limited.
workin on fillin in around the roses and until we have the area between the rose garden and the landscape timbers leveled out I can't plant along it yet.

I've updated my trade list please check and make sure I have you covered ...and if not please let me know what to bring to trade

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Pattie~I only need 1 ruellia. I'll have 20 next year, I'm sure! LOL I know how those things propagate! Thanks on the head's up on the skullcap from Cocoa.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Heck, yeah! I planted two Katies in 2005. In 2007 I dug up all the biggest volunteers and lined one entire side of my driveway with them. I think they look way better than liriope. So now the problem is, I DO only have one driveway. :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ooh....Liriope!! I forgot, I have about 16 large clumps that were just dug up last week. I have kept them in a garbage bag so they are not dried out. Free for the taking ...no trades necessary.

Pattie...glad you are getting to experience a bloom. They have a heavenly smell.

Stephanie..... I will bring the 'Georgia Blue' Speedwell but it isn't a TX native. Also add a Firecracker Plant.

Planolinda.... Got a Ginger and Firecracker Plant for you.

I forget the name right now, but earlier someone asked about cannas; I will dig them in the morning.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Shelia,
I would like some Lirope....I was thinking of edging some roses with it.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You have it....all unless someone wants to split it. Glad you can use it.

Jenepat...your name is on cannas.

Everything is loaded and ready except the cannas .....and food.
Plants
Door prizes
Freebies
Spoons and cups for soup
Mmmmm....hungry...time for a bedtime snack; see you at noon tomorrow everyone.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. Everybody, see you tomorrow, drive safely.
Josephine.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I have been working on getting ready for the RU for months..but I still am disorganized...the plants are mostly gathered together, most are marked with what they are....I have a list but the names of the new owners is not listed on the plant, I plan on doing that tomorrow. I feel like my list of what I have promised people is very incomplete....so I am bringing extras, of most things.
And Shelia, thanks for the Liriope..

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have no clue what I'm doing! LOL I really feel like a newbie since I have no idea how to mark the plants, etc. It'll all work out, though!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

you could use a marker on the pots, cups bags ...if ya have cd labels that you are not using will work ....LOL or tape and write with markers or just bag in like walmart bags them and put the names on the bags LOL

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I like the bags idea! I think I'll use some labels, though, just in case.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Stephanie....don't worry about the formal name, just something to give the person an idea what it is and who it is from. I use old mini blinds to mark mine, others use tape, or labels, or just markers on the pots.
I group my plants per person so I can take all plants for that person to their table. Also any I have as extras for on-site trades, I group together. Makes it a little easier.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, you can mark the pot, and you will probably see some very interesting things. I have pots that have been recycled so many times, you can practically see the whole history of RUs written there. Those pots have been all over Texas by now.

Another idea for markers is plastic eating utensils. I especially like them in the fall, when I'm trying to get things planted before first frost. I can plant them along with the plant, and make more permanent markers over the winter.

Right now I have little forks stuck all over my front beds. SOME people think that's a bit funny-looking. I just tell them that these days kids do forks in the yard instead of tp. :)

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm gonna post this in a coupla places;

If you think you are getting a plant FROM me, please respond here. I was able to find a trade list, but my 'edits' no longer seem to be there concerning who I had arranged trades with. ?????

Hello Everybody, we had a wonderful time, the weather was perfect, the people were great, the food was wonderful and plentiful, the plants beautiful and the door money came out just right.

Of course it all went fast in a blur and it was over too soon, but everyone was exhausted from all the preparations and activities.

It was great to see old friends and meet the new ones that attended, some came from far way, thank you all for coming and sharing with us at this joyful gathering.

Thank you Sheila and Deb, for helping with the sign in table and the door prizes, and thank you Frank and T.J. and everyone who worked so hard helping with loading and unloading.

I will be posting pictures soon.
Your friend,
Josephine.

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Enjoyed meeting everyone - nice to be able to put a face with the names and like Josephine said the weather was perfect - Thanks all for the trades - Now I have a lot a new plants to learn about and baby - I'm especially excited about the plumeria- thanks Carl - Jasmine (my cat) will be very busy sniffing everything this week - she has to check out and inspect all new arrivals - I wonder what she's thinking sometimes she gets a real weird expression on her face after sniffing one. If anyone has any questions about how to care for the trade I gave them - more than happy to help

What a wonderful way to spend an early fall afternoon! It was so much fun meeting everyone and putting faces with names. It was also fun giving away Sheila and Pattie's plants! (They were on either side of me and had MANY more plants to share than I did.) Thanks everyone for making me and my husband feel so welcome at our first RU!

Stephanie
