Twincol, scroll back to the top of this thread, click on Forum: Dave's Garden upper left side and you can see his new thread called "Freebies from Garden Gate".
I could have just linked it but maybe there are other threads someone may want to see that don't check there often enough.

That's why I didn't link directly either, Sue... It's good to get in the habit of checking the topics on the DG forum every so often.

I hope I got my order in in time to get one.

Just a little magazine info for you. A magazine subscription is usually mailed out using a magazine rate with the PO. With the price of postage these days it costs around $3-4. to mail one issue out first class.

I work for a magazine publisher and we charge full price plus shipping for back issues.

A magazine may sell you a number of magazines at a reduced price - but that would probably be to one address. I just went to Taunton's website and the February issue is not listed with the back issues. It does looks like they are having some kind of book and back issue sale.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Just got an e-mail from Fine Gardening saying that new subscriptions will get a $25 gift certificate to White Flower Farm. So if you liked the sample issue, the $25 certificate kind of makes the $30 a year price look a little more appealing. ;o)

Just thought I'd share!

PS I have no affiliation with Fine Gardening, other than having been a subscriber in the past. Just for the record.

I just received my fourth invoice in the mail for this magazine so called the 800# and the person I spoke with said they did want us to call if we did not want the magazine.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

well they keep sending me invoice for payment and I am not going to pay for it until I get an issue to see if I even want it or not.

flowerfantasy, at the bottom of the invoice I received today there is a P.S. asking for a phone call if I hadn't received the magazine yet. They give their Customer Service# 800-477-8727. That is the # I called to stop the invoices.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks I'll do that Monday since it is so late today.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think they like it if you call since that saves them from continuing to send invoices to someone who has no intention of subscribing, but you're not obligated to call them. Of course if you are tired of receiving invoices, then you can make them stop faster if you call than if you just continue to ignore the invoices, but they'll eventually stop sending them if you don't respond.

Got my issue, very lovely, in late January, followed by an invoice, which I immediately cancelled and returned. Since then, have rec'd additional invoices and wonder....did this generate all the gardening mail that I do not want? I'd managed to clean up my mail order catalogs to get only a select few. I order via the net and try not to have sale catalogs coming here; too much trash! I've been inundated with companies I've never ordered from or even visited their websites since then.

Not a happy camper about being put on new mailing lists at all, free magazine or not.
Oh well....I'll call each and every one of those companies to get off their lists. The PO will sort them out, but they just toss them, too.

I received an additional post card last week saying I've been selected to receive a free issue and the book. I had already received a free issue but no book. Did anybody else get the additional post card?
