A garden in progress...the Fall version...

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I can't believe tomorrow is actually Fall... my garden went through so much transformation this year... can't keep up with it anymore so I decided to stop trying... lol...

Big changes this year:
Irises were added... and look what I found yesterday... sometimes I think my plants bloom just to make me go "wow"

so irises came from Zuzu's garden... specially the ones Chantilly dug up for me!!!! that kitty is really something... with those big blue eyes and a great personality can't resist him!

Kassia How do you keep the suculents over winter?
Dont the pots crack in the freezing weather?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Ge, I will bring then inside... last year I lost some because I kept thinking they needed water... this year they will not be watered and I hope they all survive... I have a sunny window and lights this year so that should help!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Love your gardens Kass.
Thanks for the advise on suculents.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

You're welcome!!!!! I am glad I can help! if only I have heard Zuzu last year when she told me not to water for a month I would have kept all alive! but I am a banana head and you know how it goes!! lol

Oh Kassia! Your gardens are beautiful as always!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Harper!!!! if it was not for you and the other DG friends for all the encouragement I get I could never have a garden... it's interesting how much my family criticize my gardens!
even now... this past weekend my sweet mother told me that I didn't plant enough dahlias and I did not bring any roses inside the house... :-( well I told her, after so much criticisms it's my roses and I just like to see them outside...

and my other sister (that you guys did not meet at the RU) had the nerve to tell me that she sees absolutely no beauty in my garden - it's just a brown mess... I told her that of course I really could care less about what she thinks...her opinion is really not important to me... but that her son Alec has helped me a lot in the garden... so in a way Alec has more to say than her...

oh well... you guys are my inspiration and support... so it does matter to me what you think!!!!

As I walked the garden this morning I was amazed at the amount of dew in all the plants... wow... such a pretty thing to see!

Your gardens are new right?
Give them a few years and then see what people have to say.
My guess is your mother and sister are overwhelmed at the project.
If you entered this project with joy and worked hard at it, it will only make you happy and others too if they give themselves a chance.

Here's a surprise, hardy cyclamen, I thought I'd lost them. The leaves came out in the spring and then they were gone so I thought something ate them, even though I planted the bulbs in cages. I'm so happy they made it even though there's no leaves.

WOW I wonder if they are hardy in Z6a
Where did you get them

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hardy in zones 5-9
got them from bluestone

I've been trying to find more unique flowers that bloom in the fall.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks I'll be there to get some. I am also looking for Fall bloomers besides Chrysanthimums

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I bought fall blooming crocus(colchicum) from Brent and Becky's also.

Kassia!! Oh, I want to give you a big hug! I am always FLOORED by your beautiful gardens every time I see them. They keep getting better and better. Even still, I'm so sorry that your family is so rude to you about them. Your gardens mean so much to you, how could they put them down?

Harper

Yes - I can't believe your family said those things, Kass. That's unfair and insensitive. But it's your garden so they have to live with it!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I know... my family is very perfectionist! they want a manicured type of garden... like the ones here with shrubs... and ton of grass!

Or a garden like Pirl's! I showed them pictures and of course their comment was : "Oh my goodness that is perfect! why don't you do the same??? Daylilies... you need more! "lol... I told my mom that one day she will like it... at least my mom is not being mean anymore... she is telling me to get more dahlias and daylilies... so for that I will follow her advice... just what I need... definitely no more roses! well, we will see about that!!!!

The best thing for me is that we ate tons of fresh tomatoes, fresh green beans and than dried beans (oh they were delicious with white rice! and tons of chives, basil, rosemary, parsley) and green pepers... (only planted one plant) and of course my mom told me next year I need to plant more... not very lucky with zuccinis and cukes... but we had some... so I think if I get a veggie garden going it may help!

My nephew Victor had a ball!!!!! he is crazy about tomatoes so I am happy to plant for him... Alec loves to help me ... but my silly sister Christina won't eat the tomatoes... she thinks because I don't put any chemicals they are not safe... oy vey! can't believe she is my sister... ( I have asked my mother if she thinks they swichted her in the hospital!) ... Karla (Victor's mom) is crazy about sour tomatoes so she gets the big ones and really enjoy it... in all is ok... for now...

My nephew Philip has 2 friends that are very nice and one gives me plants! thank God for him... and I am just waiting until we get more familiar and I will try to recruit him to help me in the garden! if I give them a computer project it may work!! like a database for my roses... crossing my fingers!!! hey they put together the benches for me this year... if I can only get them to plant something???!!!!

It's ok... I am used to by now... lol! and Victor you are right! it's my garden!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow that shocks me that she doesn't like your garden Kassia.... it took my breath away... it's beautiful

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

BROWN MESS?!?!?!
Wha.....????
Is she talking about the mulch along the paths??
HUH! How else are you gonna wander around and enjoy all the flowers & plants?

Personally, I prefer your "brown mess" to a big expanse of lawn!
I loved your garden, Kassia!
