Terri... glad you joined us back on this thread!! I'll have to say again.. what beautiful blooms!!
Donna.. sooo glad you are at least feeling better! Yep.. dial up stinks!! Heard from your DD and the GBB??
Linda Kay.. yours would do great in the ground in your zone. I planted mine a few weeks back, and they really like it... course I think it depends on how big the plants are.. and the root system, so they would make it to come back next spring... NO I don't need a drink to get me crazy..LOL
Phyllis... BRRRRR... already!!! Winter is a coming!!

BONNIE.. where are you???

Chesapeake Beach, MD

I found two buds on my Lovie, 4 on MEM and 2 more on my apricot NOID. The one (NOID) planted in the ground in the front of my house it loaded and has bloomed regularly all summer.

I brought my Mt. Magic x Rubiline cross I grew from seed last year up on the deck. She hasn't bloomed for me yet but does seem to be finally starting to Y at about 4 1/2 feet. I didn't put her in a very good location - too shaded and I will probably repot her tomorrow. It's not too late though, maybe, maybe she'll surprise me. I've decided to cut her down for the winter and root the cuttings.

All the babies are doing fine. I brought them in and have half of them in the window in the dining room and the other half in my sewing/computer room.

No seeds have popped yet - the wait is killing me. This time I put the date on the tag so I will know when I planted them.

Karen you dog. I was watching that ebay bid and I am thrilled someone I know won it. Cassie's Curls, ohhh........

Chesapeake Beach, MD

I was just in an online store called The Garden Shop and they said they are in Zone 6a and have successfully had their brugs live for the past 5 years in the ground with 18 inches of mulch on top.

Thought that was interesting. I've gotta try it.

Flat Rock, MI

I'm alway's here laughing and learning and DROOLING. lol I hesitate to post alot cause I dont want to post somewhere I'm not supposed to. I guess I'm still not clear on all the rule's just yet. I think the very first time I ever posted I might of started a new thread which I dont think I meant to. lol Still learning. Today I'm washing all my plant's up and bringing them inside except a few Tropical's. Have to take advangage of this nice weather. Dont know how many more we will have. Hope all are enjoying the weather.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Werefolf, mailed your check for 6.80 postage today. Plant arrived today also. Thank you!

Hmmm....I was just taking a peek at the babies in the window and I have a seedling that has popped up in my Dbl. Mon Amour x Mt. Magic. I must have scooped up the seed when I scooped out the baby.
Oh boy!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Wolfie, got the plants today! Thank you again. Billie I just LOVE to share with my friends, dontcha know? Let's see what I can do with these cuttings....

Chesapeake Beach, MD

Karen, thanks for the thought. I'll do the same for you with some of these seedling crossesd. Too bad they are so small right now. The Bergfuer x Super Spot can't be a loser since both of the parents are gorgeous.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Terri, you are always welcome to post on this thread. We talk about burgs and lots of other flowers, we chit chat and talk about life. Come on in and join us, coffee is always on and there are plenty of seats.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Thats right Terri!!! 18 inches of mulch mmmmm I plan on chopping them of anyway so i'm gonna give it a try! How ya feeling Donnna? : )
I have been taking cuttings today to see if I can keep them growing this winter..lantana..salvia...persian shield....ect. Anybody want incense or maypop passion vine?

Chesapeake Beach, MD

Kim, does Persian Shield grow in sun or shade?

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I have mines in filtered sun..I have killed one in full sun ; (

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Feeling a little better, I’m not breathing well enough to walk around but I’m good enough to sit at the pc.

I wish I had holes dug in the yard; I would put mine in and give it a try. I’ve got the mulch bags already sitting in the driveway. Oh well, there is always next year.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Good that feeling a little better : ) Donna I put mines in the ground because last year a lot of times when I came home from work they would be on the ground. No problems this time : ) I will make some big cuttings for me and give the rest away. Oh how they love being in the ground they are huge!! I wil do standards next season.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Spent most of the day in the cardiologists office! He ran blood work, had to wait for the results, enzymes were a little high. He did a ct scan to see if I had a blood clot in my lungs. I left before they got the results, but he took my cell # and said if I didn't hear from him it was OK.
I;m scheduled for an echo cardiogram and a chemical stress test. One one month and the other the next!
They had a hard time getting blood, my viens roll. The tape they put on one place, I'm alergic to, and I'. broken out in a raised rash where they put it. It stings and burns!
I FOUND HOBBY LOBBY!!! I'm not to impressed, for the prices! I'll go to Wal*Mart to get the rest of my stuff for my Santa!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Wow Audrey! I sure hope you don't hear from the doc. Can you use cortizone for your rash? Take it easy!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

I was going to do the same, but with the back problem I never got them in the ground. I’m planning on cutting off any that have double trunks and rooting in a bucket. Next year those will go right in the ground. If yours survive this winter, I’ll be putting them all in next season.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

It sure make things easier..less watering and no dragging pots!!!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

There all so big now it takes me forever to water and I can’t lift the large pots anymore so this will be a great solution if it works. I hate dragging the pots.

Audrey, praying all is okay. I buy all I can in Wal-Mart, only use the other stores when I have to.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Been lining up all my tropicals to come indoors. Hope there is room. Most will go in the sun room and others in the house. EE's I bought 2 of each they were cheap and I figured if I killed one I would have a replacement, course I didn't kill any of them so I have about 20 ee's coming indoors.

Anyone have luck overwintering caladiums? I have bunches of bulbs and I want them to make it and I don't have any idea. Calla lilies I leave in the pot and stop watering until they dry up and then water very sparingly all winter, put them in the garage and then in spring put them in sun and start watering again as normal.

Chesapeake Beach, MD

Last year I just left my elephant ears in the pots and quit watering and they all made it. It might work for the caladiums too.

I have to dig mine up because they are in the ground or in flower boxes. The directions I read said to lop off the leaves, wash off the dirt, allow to dry like onions and put in some sort of wood shavings.

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Hello hotties!!! I am on friend's computer..I am alive but got lot of damage..my house is intact with few shingles missing but my barn exploded..still partly standing with some tin left on it..lol..I have 5 acres of tree limbs down and few trees snapped off at the ground..
I will be on when I get my power back on..see you soon when I get my computer back up running..and will show pics..

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Do you pull the caladiums before frost? I have a huge portadora ee I wonder if I mulch really good.....

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Moodene it is good to hear that you are well!!! How they get your power back soon!! Take care.

Flat Rock, MI

Well I got most of my plant's washed up and brought back into the house. Way to much work!! I should of waited for DH but last week he told me to make a Honey Do list cause he was staying home all day and helping me. OH YA RIGHT!!! Well I had to work that day and was about to go out the door and he said WAIT!! He said how do you make the vacuum go down. OMG!!! Well I showed him then proceeded to leave and he said WAIT again. Now he wanted to know how to turn it on. OMG!! Ok so again I'm trying to get out the door and he say's WAIT!! OMG!! He said the vac is not picking up good so he THINK'S it need's a new belt. Ok fine so I get him a new belt and I'm finally on my way out the door. Got back home a little less than 2 hour's and OMG your not going to believe this but he was STILL sitting on the floor trying to figure out how the heck the belt goes on. lol lol I tell ya I never laughed so hard in my life!! He was so upset the sweat was dripping down his face. lol At that point I know I should'nt of said a word but I just could'nt help myself and had to say....Gosh hon you build home's and you cant put a belt on. lol lol Oh it get's better!!! It didnt need a belt after all. lol It was quite the ordeal. Geeze that must of done him in cause he vacuumed two room's and was pooped. lol lol I should'nt talk like this about him cause he work's his tail end off but I just never laughed so hard in my life. I told him he still owe's me a honey do list though. lol I'll need help bringing in all my Brug's for winter. I dont have a clue where I'm going to put them. So on that note for all you that arent feeling well your in my prayer's tonight and hoping you wake up tomorrow feeling wonderful and lot's of bloom's!! And shame on me for talking about my better half!!! lol

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Ha! that made me laugh too : ) Terri we get very creative when it comes time too bring our garden in ; }

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Terri that tells you we are better than men! more woman power to us, hee hee and i hear you, i have one of those dh!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

That’s a great story Terri, I got a good laugh out of it too.

Heber Springs, AR

do any of u hotties know when the morning glory bush seeds? mine has had at least 1000 blooms and hasn't set a seed pod yet. i'm mistified.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Terri you are actually a lucky lady.....Much as I love DH he has the patience of a flea...His reaction would have probably been to have thrown the vacuum down, maybe breaking something else on it, curse, and tell me he was through trying with it, get another one, LOL! Then of course, he always comes back later and tries to fix it... Ah, men.....sometimes I wonder if I'm through raising my kids or not, hahahaha!

Probably fixing to go to bed early tonight, I hope you are all doing well. I'm still fighting that bad depression I get sometimes, and can't seem to get the energy to do anything around here...(but shop on Ebay obviously, LOL!) Here's hoping tomorrow is better. I despise being Bi-Polar, it slows me down from doing things I normally love doing. Keep me in your prayers please, it has been a very hard few days for me. Love you all, nite nite! Karen

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

hi wolfie, if you do get some seeds, please blow some to Long Iland NY

Hey you know who DDDDD, love you and feel better!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Evening girlies... where's handsome, and Bonnie?? hmmm I guess handsome hasn't spooned enough with his sweet dW.. now Bonnie..???? Maybe she's a spooning herself...lol
I finally started burning the limbs and leaves.. got a lil done and am pooped...
weese.. I don't think they ever told me not to swallow.. yikes.. I bet that was all you wanted to do..lol.. still praying for you girl!!
Billie.. congrats on the buds!! WOW you have that many seedlings?? You must like to do the seeds?? How do you plant them..seeds barely under the soil?
Kim.. after I saw the pic of Peg's Persian Shields, I just had to have 1..lol Bought 2.. and killed them both! I watered with MG and bam.. next day they were withering.. I thought you could dig all bulbs.. let them dry a few days, and either put in the frig(that way, when you plant them in the spring they really shoot up fast!) or in a cool dark place. Definitely before a freeze.. I don't think the frost would kill them
Donna.. so glad you are at least feeling a lil better.. the hotties can keep you company, and hopefully we'll be good for you too!!
Terri.. that ain't no fair.. you lurking.. you know all about us, and we know nothing about you!! We try to love everyone, and I think we have the greatest group here!! I bet you agree. I LOL sooo hard. At least he was trying!

Chesapeake Beach, MD

Becky, NEVER refrigerate caladiums. They can either be started in the Spring in pots inside or planted outside after temperatures are in the 70's. If cold & wet they may rot if planted to early outside. Do great started in pots indoors & transplanted.

Flat Rock, MI

Ok Becky I'll try not to be just a lurking anymore. lol Well glad you all got a laugh. Gosh I do feel a little bad telling such stuff about my DH. NOT!!! lol DH think's it's time to chop my Brug's down. OMG!! I planted 2 million of them in a TINY little spot and have a mess but JUST now I'm getting bud's. CHOP DOWN??!! Them babies are staying till they freeze there hinnies off cause I want to see bloom's. I did get carried away this spring and planted WAY to many in a very tiny spot. lol Oh well live and learn. That's the fun of it I guess. lol I suppose I wont be talking fun when it's time to bring them in. lol

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Billie.. here I just leave them in the ground.. no problems so far.. but I "thought" I had read you could put any bulbs in the frig...LOL

Terri.. I am glad you are really joining in on the fun here! Hey we all have our moments with the DH's, and sometimes we don't mean D as in dear..lol.. but we love them and know we can't live without them!! I think I would do like Kim is doing this year, and just cut them off before the first freeze, and stick the cuttings in a bucket. Even though I planted mine here, I planted late, and I am going to do the same thing. At least that way I hopefully will either still have the plant in the ground, or the cuttings to replace them. My MIL in TN has a brug in the ground and she doesn't even mulch, and it comes back every year.

hey handsome.. I can't help you on the MG's, but if you ever get any seeds, I think I would like a few. That is one gorgeous plant!

Karen.. my first DH was like that, but this one IF he can't fix it, OR if he breaks it, cause he is my Dennis the Menace..lol.. he just goes and buys another one..LOL.. Nite girlie!! Sleep tite!

Clemie.. aww you know your DH is a DEAR..LOL

Flat Rock, MI

Are you guy's for real when you say you chop them down and keep them in water ALL winter?? I cant imagine that. Last year I had only some pink's and lot's of them and put several cutting's in big bucket's and PEWEY did that stink. I mean I was changing water at least every other day. Before our first frost I will send a photo of the mess I have and hopefully someone can direct me just where to cut. I'm really nervous about that. I should of left well enough alone when I was getting these huge plant's from Brenda. NO I had to be GREEDY and make more plant's!! Chopping them all down. I suppose if I knew at the time where to cut it would of been ok. lol What the heck was I thinking and on top of this a newbie!!! Oh boy!!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Well I will use a airstone and a cheap pump...strip most of the leaves off after I cut the trunk off a few inches above ground level. Add some H220 (peroxcide)to the water and add water when needed.

I have a brugs trumpet that was a stick when I got it this spring, and now it is about five feet tall with a bloom, should I leave it in the ground or dig it out an pot it? ( I am new here, and new to daturas....) thanks..

Thumbnail by joeswife
Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

joes welcome, if you want that baby to survive, you better put her in a pot for the winter and bring her in!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Clemen, I figured I'd have to, I just don't see how those big tree trumpets survive Niagra Falls in the Winter, what do they do, cover them up? LOL ( That's where I saw my first Datura Trumpet tree, in the streets of Niagra City, Canada, last sumer, and I just had to have one )
