Smart gal, Gita!

Glenview, IL

Oooooh Gita! so cool to see that!

Your Fall Floral arrangement is wonderful! would be a pretty display anywhere.
Both of them.

hehehe, I remember what you said. It's ok as long as ya enjoy reading, just know I'm waing...LOL in sign language even.
So..Hope you got to your garden work.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

The skating rink with lights under the ice/glass sure is unique and different! Lites on centerpieces really do set a festival tone for the room. I know Betty's gone to bed already, but I'm thinking that the glass lifts up and you put those battery operated string lights inside it? I'm trying to catch up and lookin' and readin' really fast. I'll scroll back up in a minute and re-read that part.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Well, jumping around I did read more details on the skating rink centerpiece on your best/ worse daily thread Betty. A hole is drilled in the bottom of the box for electric lights. So, If you sat this arrangement, say, in the middle of a sideboard table with a runner of garland it could be connected to the garland lights? Is that right? Wow. Your cousin Linda would have no problem learning to craft with you right there close by if she ever decides she wants to start doing it.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Nice crafts! Maybe someday ya'll will have me trained so I can make them too ☺

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, yep you were right Deborah, I was sleeping or trying to...worked myself into a tizzy this weekend but boy, once grouted the kitchen will look pretty...yet another corner done...moving into the washroom for tiling over tub..lol..one thing leads to another right?

Gita, there is never any hi-jacking on any thread here ...it's nice to see how things progress from one subject to another...love the centerpiece and the basket..someone will be happy to win either...aren't fall colors the best...

With our Thanksgiving only weeks away, I'll have to pick up appropritate size pumpkings for my flower arrangments...on Oct. 4th I go to Meaford - 100 miles away from home, OMG everything is decorated in that town as scarecrows and fall decorations..so many craft sales placed throughout the town..ideas coming girls...

Ok, no fooling around..I've 16 faces here with me this morning wanting painting..going to look for my instructions..still can't quite figure out this blast mail-out..could someone post instructions just as though I'd never seen a computer..soooo computer illiterate...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, don't know how it will work out, I may have try and follow directions and ask a few questions at different time than others, but do you have room to sign me up for 2 kits????? Your Santa is sooooo beautiful!!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Trisha, was wondering how long it was going to take you to join the santa workshop???
LOL
We are all patiently waiting on Betty to send out a group blast to let us all know how much everything will be, and when the fun will begin???

I am, had directions here at work, new computer so they changed systems and wouldn't you know I can't find it..so will take measurements tonight when I get home and do a group post, girls say it's easy as 1-2-3

Honest Trisha, it's so very simple...added your name..

You all have me hopping..
almost have another 16 done..

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Linda Kay I tried to resist! I am counting on the new boss giving hubby a raise or I may be in trouble.....it has been a long week. Friend from out of state came to visit. Haven't seen her for several years....we are also good friends with her X and his wife....long sad story......

If that wasn't enough have to babysit the DGD tonight, get her to school in the a.m.....pick up all three kids after school tomorrow, watch them until five so Laura and her DH can celebrate their anniversary in peace .....then get everything packed, go to Seattle tomorrow night as we have to be at the airport at 4 a.m. for a flight to Vegas for a 3 day trade show!!!!! I'm already tired thinking about it! Oh, and need to get everything straightened and well dusted so my son will stay here and take care of the zoo.....he and my future DIL both have dust allergies. So I will take the computer and hopefully get caught up on DG at some point......

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Trisha, what kind of trade show are you going to? That sounds interesting!
have a good time, and enjoy your time away from home.
Linda Kay

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, you've made me tired..lol

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

It is the big Bicycle Industry Show.....get to see all the new bikes, parts, clothes and stuff like that. Get to meet up with old industry friends we haven't seen in a long time and have a few good meals and walk around and look at the circus that goes on along the strip. I voted with the group who wanted to move the show to Denver....but evidently they did not get enough of us! Once or twice is fun but after that I would just as soon know I am going to get something for my money and what it is.....I don't have enough to throw away..lol!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Well I have everything except the 3 inch Styro ball, can't find one of them yet. All around I can find the 2 in., the 2 1/2 in. and the 4 inch but no 3 in. yet, will keep looking.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

May have to borrow back the bag of Styrofoam balls I gave my DGD!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

The 3" are sold in 6 ea. packages, I looked at 3 different stores and found that was the only way they sold them. With the Christmas decorations coming out already, they're keeping them in there somewhere.

Victoria Harbour, ON

OK just did measurements, on the run ..long ride to the city and once I'm there doing my post...see you then, get yourselves a coffee and we'll gab..

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Save travels, see you when you get there Betty.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Robyn,

Does it HAVE TO be precisely 3"??? What will this ball be used for? The head?

You could buy the 4" ball and roll it around on a hard surface while applying moderate pressure to make it more compact and smaller. I bet it would work.....

Cutting styrofoam is a difficult and messy job, but if you have a really sharp, thin knife (like maybe a veggie knife) you could slice away thin layers of it and then roll it around to even the surface out.
I think making a bigger one smaller is easier than padding up a smaller one to make it bigger.

Just a few suggestions....Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

Group d-mail and then posting 1st set of instructions so everyone can be sitting pretty to do the project...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Help/Help...lol...got you on the group list and group names but cannop find
"composte mail" must have a phobia about this

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

In d-mail, look on the right hand side for "Compose". Then you can chose the name of your group that you already set up. I'm thinking this is the correct way.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Deborah, got it....

Many of you have purchased your material, so we thought in order not to be a high pressure project that I would post and answer questions as to the Victorian Santa's robe so that if you are sewing by machine, hand sewing or gluing with material glue you can work at your own speed, we all know that I've plenty of time here at work so any questions as you work along can be answered...by now I'm hoping that you've received your group d-mail, thanks to all who helped me with that....

Material comes in 36" and 45" lengths, so I'll lead you through based on the 36" cut...

Find a place that you are able to open up your yardage for easy cutting...

What I would do is take newspaper print as not to cut incorrectly...better safe than sorry right...and if you have pinking shears you can use them but it is not necessary to have a beautiful finished project....

Cut from newspaper pring the following pieces:

Robe: depending on what width you have purchased - either will be fine

1 - 14” X 35" piece
or

1 - 14" x 45 depending on the width

Sleeves:

2 - 10" X 18" pieces if using 36" wide

or

2 - 10" X 22 1/2" if using 45" wide

Collar/Shawl:

Cut 1 18” x 11”

Now I recommend placing these paper pieces on your fabric and cut...

PLEASE/PLEASE when you do some of these projects as many times as I have, sometimes explaining them or the manner in which I explain the steps isn't always easily understood...so, any and every question appreciated throughout this workshop..a question answered will help another friend...

Before I lose my post will press send and continue...

Dress: Main colour

with your 14" x 35" or 14" x 45" piece, fold in half putting the 14" edges together to form a circular tube...once done (glue dried) fold your piece in 1/2 so that your seam is on the back of the robe garment...

Easy so far right??? come on now, you should be enjoying this...smile....

Now we're looking at the robe, imagine that sleeves must be inserted on each upper side of the robe...don't panic...these are not added to the garment...

Next step..

Cut down 3 ½” at sides and turn under – glue with liquid stitch or hand or machine sew...when Run a strong gathering thread through top of front.

Fold bottom of the robe for about 1/2 " and sew hem by machine/hand or glue with liquid stitch...

With needle and thread, yep, some hand sewing, get good strong thread and gather front and back of robe neck line and gather..if you use cheap thread it could break!

Victoria Harbour, ON

See how the sides you've cut in 3 1/2" which forms armpit looks like...

So below that fold on each front side and back side (total of 4) right about where my hand is, that part is intact and is bottom of his robe...

Don't have material here in the office so you'll have to bare with me...

just gather the tops, front and back and leave long threat as well be pulling it tight and closed against the armiture and gluing with glue gun when we do our workshop...so thread has to be fairly good, not the 3 for $1.00 type...lol...

"Cut down 3 ½” at sides and turn under – glue with liquid stitch or hand or machine sew...when Run a strong gathering thread through top of front. "

I am confused...cut down (from the 14" top) on each side of the main piece? Just one cut down? if it is one cut, how do I get a fold?
Sorry...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ok...you've now a round cylinder that you've just sewn to create it and now you've put the seam that you either glued or sewed mid point on the back right...(you wouldn't want to leave it on a side or in front as it wouldn't look the nicest so in the back it goes...) now you cut 3 1/2 " from top down on both sides this creates the upper back and front..now if you look at the photo about 2 up it shows you how I turned the fabric over on an angle..you can glue or sew this, whichever you decide...

can you figure this out? if not I'll have to get material out tonight and do a visual for you all..

Victoria Harbour, ON

OK doing it with paper..thank goodness for labtec camera here in the office..lol

this is what your large piece should look like...the dotted line represents your sewn or glued seam...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now if you look closely you will see the seam towards the back and the two side cuts...

Are you all confused now or are you able to figure it out...?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Sleeves:

Sew each sleeve puting the 10" together forming a cylinder that is 18" or 22 1/2 in length... turn under 1" at bottom edge and glue or sew, this is the finished hem where the hand will be inserted...at the other end of the cyclinder, gather once again with good thread...

Head hood:

With the 8” x 11” piece turn under all edges approx 1/4 to 1/2 " on all 4 sides ...again, glue with liquid stitch or sew...

Now we're ready shortly for the next step...but we'll wait until we've all accomplished this part of the project...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Again, if my instructions are not making sense, please post or d-mail me and I'll clarify...what seems simple to some is not always so for others...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, are the cuts with single layer fabric, or fabric folded in half as it comes from the store?
Linda
