B-always a post an a half behind.. Nite Dear Clemen & fam.
She's About To..........#16
Becky, a true brug mama, I can just imagine you trying to keep up with the weather and hauling that brug back and forth, Lyle was surely getting a kick out of that... lol
it's a really humid night and the scent is wow!
Beck, she looks great and you got her in the house. :) I think I would be tempted to bring her in, storm or no storm, just to enjoy it. I really hope you just get the tropical.
Tell Lyle you would drag him back and forth too and not leave him in the camper, and give him a big grin. That's usually when Keith can't help but laugh at me, and lets me have my way. When he knows I'm just full of it, he has a hard time saying anything.
I'm checking out there again too, Kim.. I have 8 different brugs blooming at once! A first for that many for this ol brug mom. Peg, wonderful way to explain it to him. lol bless their hearts, too.
Oh, Kim, I wish we had smell-puter. I have fragrant lilies and many other plants, but I still do not know what a brug smells like. And the only ones I have seen around here were small ones and I don't have the nerve to walk up, knock on the door and ask "do you mind if I smell your plants?"
I've told Beck, and she probably does not believe me, but I have a shy streak a mile wide, and have to fight that continually. I was on DG almost a month before I really said, boo to anyone. And then when I did, I got a lady who told me in no uncertain terms not do what I wanted to do, involving putting plants under trees.
Aw, Peg just march up there, it's a compliment to the gardener, and if they say no, snag a bloom on your way out! lol I know what you mean, I'm still gettin up enough nerve to go back again on the greenhouse frame.. Don't you fuss about getting bossed an on DG, you just didn't have us hotties, yet.. AND just post them pics, I have a rub and sniff feature on this monitor.. ;)
Well if you knocked on my door with that ? I would invite you in to smell em' : ) Only a true plant lover would do such a thing! I am shy also.
What's wrong with plants under trees?? Ha ha ha..mines seem to be doing fine.
I have plants under trees, too. I have trees under trees.. k, hotties, I slipped my sandals on to sniff around outside and my left one was pretty tight on my bum foot.. guess I better go prop it up.. I'll check back in if I can get conscious enough before I hit the rack... I'm kind a likin this 4 days in a row off work thing.. and OH the smells I smelled out there! Keep it goin, hotties, this ones "on the bench" for a couple innings..
Hey Jaye!! She's a beauty : )
Sweet Dreams!!!
Bonnie.. that is your CG baby that you shared with me.. ain't she purty?? lol There's a 3rd bud hanging down that ya'll can barely see.
Ike's hurricane force winds hit Sabine Pass about 30 minutes ago.. they... as all the coast is really getting it hard, and he hasn't even hit land yet! Sabine Pass was were we were supposed to camp all of October..LOL.. NOT now.. they are already 8' under water from the surges. Those winds haven't reached us yet.. but Galveston has already lost power... sooo sad for all those people, and they said there was still 20% of the population there.. hard to believe those people would stay!!
We get the lil bugs every spring and this time of year we call love bugs.. appropriate name cause they are "stuck" together!!..lol They don't bite they are just a nuisance! They also love white.. here's a pic I took this morning.. and BTW.. I am in my BIG ol gown..
Oops!! Beaumont just lost power... we are about 1 hr N.
I have to tell ya'll I love all of you! You mean sooo much to me.. I will try to get in touch sometime tomorrow if we lose power.. Don't worry.. be happy... and somebody Paleese.. eat some Cheetos for me??!!... LOL
Thats right AuntB get that toe up. I prolly will take a break also..then check back in a few!
Jaye! Where have you been? I was updating the Hottie Section of my journal and I knew I was missing someone here on the thread, it was you.. You guys, Beautiful brug pics! Looks like Maya, Jaye.. Kim that's the over-the-fence brug! Wow! Now I have to go prop this sore paw...
Oh, Kim, I don't know.
This lady decided I was going to kill my 30-year-old crepe myrtle "trees" if I planted hostas under them. And she went on. It actually killed the thread. And I had the unfortunate slip of tongue to say I was going to rotatill and amend the soil. "Rotatill under a tree, oh my, no"..... I rotated out of their root line and planted the hostas accordingly and they and the "trees" are doing fine. I just went back to lurking again... :))
Sounds about like I would have done..lurk or move on : ) I know black walnut trees are not good to plant under for most plants...
To all, I've have got to head towards bed, stay safe everyone!
And Becky, Karen ate all of the Cheetohs!! :)))) Lov, Peg
me too.
Saying my prayers for each and everyone of you!
ZZzzzzzzzzz.....
Peg.. that figures..lol..Karen.. you owe me a pack of Cheetos..
I have heard that if you disturb the roots of the big, ol trees you run a risk of killing them.. but it takes years..
Nadine is getting hit hard with the rain bands preceding Ike.. they haven't reached us yet.. probably within the hour... kinda spooky here.. no wind..
Hope ya'll don't mind me filling ya'll in.. I am NOT about to clean the house..lol.. besides.. I only have a smaller path than I had in Gustav..it's a bigger mess now...lol
Becky I like hearing what's going on, I fear you've lost power now as well. I'm using that info you shared with me in the morning, well in a few more hours. I love your front door, very clever letting us "see" you in your nightie like that! I love you too, lady and I'll worry now till I see another post from ya, or hear your sweet voice, hopefully tomorrow morning! Karen, Nadine, (even Amandataylor7 whom doesn't post here much, but might be a lurker) all my dave buddies and hottie sis's, I wish you all safety.. So if you southern belle hotties don't get to post by 9 a.m., and I have your #, I'm using my hottie hotline phone. (slept good on the couch- moving to the bed) Nitey nite....
Still have power.. see???..LOL.. We are just starting to get the rain bands here. 1/3 of Ike is on land at Galveston.. and he aint liking the land..YAY.. he is already breaking up a lil.. so that is good news!!.. Still bad..lol, but it could be worse...I'll be in and out untill the worst is over.. or I pass out..lol.. Lyle is asleep on the couch..sleeping like a baby.. I don't know how he can do that.. I am the worrywart, and I want to hear it coming.. TTYL!!
glad to hear he is breaking up!!!
NO.. lol.. maybe I said that wrong.. the "eye" was not as "round" when he hit land.. we still have power.. not ME..lol I am sleepy.. but the wind is really strong, and I guess limbs are flying, hitting the house on occasion. We have a tin roof, and it's been popping!!The lights are flickering. I can't get our local channels.. they are south of us, but I am listening to a channel in LA and it isn't clear. We don't get it all the time, but for whatever reason we are tonight. I am thankful!! I am worried about tornadoes. I know that sound. It's one you never forget.. We're probably getting at least 60mph winds.
Peg.. went back a lil.. you are shy?? hmmm never would have guessed.. maybe we both are the same "shy"..LOL.. I have my spells too.I waited awhile to post too. If I had gotten that response I would have been more leery to post again too!
Bonnie.. I really was taking a pic of the bugs.. and BTW.. they aren't nearly as bad in the mornings as in the afternoons. They land on you, and anything crawly on me drives me nuts..lol hopefully Ike will get rid of them early. It worked when we had Rita go through here in 2006.
Kim.. are you up early?or late going to bed??
Oh, Beck, Up awake and checking the radar. I have been using Google Earth because they're are downloading real-time satellite views over the maps. From Dallas to SA over to almost Mississippi is under Ike. I've got Colesmesneil marked and it looks like the eye is a little bit west of you. Houston does not look good.
Mornin!!
oh yeah.. Houston is in the eye right now!! It's not good here and I can only imagine how bad it is in Houston!! Even though the eye is actally "better" to be under.. it's a fine margin between the eye and tremendous wind forces. I saw where you posted on the TX Ike thread.. I just wish I could get our local channels!! LA is better than nothing though! Hopefully the lights will hold.. but they are really flickering a lot.. I'll be happy to see daylight..LOL
You are going to get d-mail. It should download faster for ya. :))
Morning Hotties
So sorry I could not join the PJ party, I had taken some pain killers and they knocked me out. When the keyboard got burley I gave up and went to bed. Got on this morning and I see ya all were up all night.
Becky so happy to see your post early this morning, the news here isn’t saying much but I did hear millions are without power. I hope things are okay and you are getting so much needed sleep.
Hope all you southern hotties are doing alright. Post when you can or call in so we know what’s going on.
I enjoyed reading all the plant talk last night, now you good hottie enablers are making me go look at the links. I don’t even know what all those plants are, maybe I shouldn’t find out. I have trouble growing lots of things but for some strange reason I can do orchids. They seem to like my house, the ones pictured here are all 2-5 years old and bloom 2 to 3 times a year.
I’ll be here most of the day getting the house ready for my DGD, just have to run to the store to get her favorite foods and some good Nana snacks. You know the kind her Momma hardly ever lets her have. Yup that’s what Nana’s do, spoil them babies good.
Morning all, I'm here! I slept through the night because I figured the worst of the weather will be in store for my area today. It rained heavy all night, I can tell you that.
Donna I hear you about these hottie enablers, LOL! I bit and looked at the links too....I wonder if the jade vine would live in the ground in my zone?
Morning all you early risers!
First off I hope all our Texans are high and dry!
We are having a monsoon here! Last night I thought the hurricane had come to Missouri already! Still pouring today...hope my fish don't fall out of the pond! I would go look but.......I don't like cold and wet!
AuntB you are right I live north of KC about 45 minutes...problem is we were going to Johnson County, KS last night where the little funnels were spotted....never said we were smart.....LOL
I looked up clivia, you all had my want to see want to see all up...looked on ebay, heck there is one on their for 299.00 starting out.....there you go hotties! Actually they are beautiful and there were some affordable, course the auction had not started yet...
Glad I brought the plumerias in cause they would of hated this weather. I think I figured out Plumerias...set them on your concrete driveway all summer and rarely water....they love heat and dry...I lost my first cutting and then I ordered several from a coop. I put those cutting directly on top of the heat vent on the second floor last winter and only watered when they were desert dry, do not leave in water. Then moved them outside onto the concrete driveway in direct sun all summer in black pots and only watered when they were desert dry. Mine only got testy when I transplanted them, but they seem to recover nicely. Moved them in when the temps dropped and rain was coming.....so ignore and abuse and they seem to be quite happy! Not like our little bruggies that we cater to....LOL
Plant I would be afraid of is a $299.99 clivia...LOL just kidding.
Cat, hate to say this and don't mean to offend anyone but knock out roses are being so over used that it is like a song that has played over and over and over on the radio until I can't hardly stand them...sorry everyone who loves them. My quest on roses is to buy each one listed in the "rose hall of fame" LOL...so far I have iceberg, peace, just joey looks just peachy and I think that is the next one. I have purchased some of these at wally world and home depot. I am also starting on Dave Austin roses they are so beautiful.
Just read all the post from last night and this morning....
Worried for all you Texans!
Karen, so glad you made the night okay, hope the day does not bring worst. Gotta check plant files for the zones but I’m sure for me my zone is too cold. More stuff to store for the winter is not what I need. I’m already in big trouble here this year; I’m going to lose a lot that I have outside now. They are all too big to mail out and I can’t find anyone in the area that wants them. Not too many tropicals, most are just plants that I can’t get into the ground before it freezes
Morning Joyce,
I crossed with you, I’m always running a post or two behind. I really liked what you said about the plummies, if those are the conditions they love then I should be able to grow them here. We do have lots of humidity but I have some hot spots that I think they might grow in. Do they go dormant in winter or will they live as a house plant?
Why oh why am I looking at all these gorgeous plants, for me Logee is only an hour drive. I’ve just started with tropicals in the last year so I have never been there. I have no plant loving friends here in RI. Most all have small gardens and do some annuals but none have gotten addicted like me. I guess that could be a good thing, if I had a plantaholic friend that live close I’d be in more trouble than I am now………Most think I’m crazy, so it is a comfort to be on DG and find all you wonderful hotties that have the same addictions as me.
Good morning! And am here wathching the news and hoping our texans friends are ok.
Joyce, see the clivia, I know they can be pretty expensive and can't undersatand why. The one I have was given to me and it is almost dead and trying to revive her. Let's see if I succeed, at least she go t new leave since i repotted her.
Hi Donna, missed youl ast night.
Anyway, everyone have a great saturday, and will be peeking through later. Gotta run now. See ya
cross posted Donna, logees I think has the clivia for $40, but no blooms
I am glad our texas dear friends are ok s io far! Still praying! Joyce do you bury the bud union on your roses? I am rose challenged. I do have two of the carefree ones in the front.
I believe you can do either. This will be my first full winter and I am going to put them back on the second floor of my house back by the heat register. My house is built to make full use of solar light and heat so if the sun shines at all that room will be flooded with sunshine as well as heat and I believe I will be ok as long as I don't overwater.
On the plumeria site I believe I read about letting them go dormant, dropping their leaves, and not watering. From what I have read they are like me "wet and cold" is not good....LOL I bought mine from a really reasonable price coop and haven't lost any, only problem is the plum that was marked red bloomed white. I have another "red" but won't know untl it blooms what color it is. There is a guy here in KC that has a plum that must be 7 feet tall and really wide and he stores it in his basement all winter letting it go dormat. Course he told a friend of my how to store her tropical hibiscus that is like a tree and it didn't make it......
Morning Clem
Thought I was here all alone talking to myself. I love the plant but $40 is a bit high for this time of the year, gotta pay the old oil bill so my plant allowance is limited now.
Cannot even imagine how much propane is gonna cost us this year.
