Honeymoon
Fall Planting, so what's on your list?
Replacement plant from Sheepers arrived this evening. It was still smallish, but had 4 eyes. Much better, I can't believe that the original one eyed plant was allowed to be sent out. Maybe they will keep a better eye on quality for other people.
Oh, pretty tulips, JoAnn. Those will look very nice next year.
That's great that you got a better plant this time, Iris.
Karen
love the china town tulip.... good luck with the new one Iris
Congrats on the new plant Iris.
I like it when garden stores have good customer relations.
I forget which thread we had mentioned co-ops. But.... this one is selling garden gloves. I can't rave enough about the Nitrile gloves and they are included in this coop - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/915248/#new . If anyone is interested check it out.
Finally! Both Do Tell peonies are planted, thanks to the work of DH. Called the Song Sparrow Nursery this morning & told them what a great plant they sent. Figured that a little praise doesn't hurt anyone. Tomorrow's chore--get the iris seeds planted. I made out their marking stakes this afternoon.
Anita, I have placed an order for those gloves in that co-op. I have not used them before, and everyone seems to rave about them, so I'll give them a go.
Karen
I think you will love them. I even have my mother hooked on them. I had purchased a bulk order two years ago and also give them as part of a 'garden' gift for birthdays. I am ordering the winter gloves as they look a bit heavy and warmer for the cold weather of late fall, winter and early spring.
Oh thats cool! I love poppies...what ya get??
and what color?
Iris seeds planted in their boxes this afternoon--just in time as temperature is turning cold.
How many did you plant?
Are the boxes above ground? I just wonder 'cause I hadn't tried planting the seeds in above ground boxes over the winter.
Small batch of the seeds
this yr. as the SDBs only had 2 takes. So one 6 pack, 3 boxes needed for BB cross with 90 seeds plus, as well as a second set of another BB cross. 1 box each for the 2 SDB crosses & 1 box for a tet MTB x pumila cross. That makes a toatal of ten. the boxes are put in trays, trays put in a trench BELOW ground. That is a smaller group than I usually get. DH just had one take so hasn't planted any. We don't do TB crosses, but would work them the same way if we did. These are all outside, we don't do them in a greenhouse.
I forgot to add that we have screening on top of the boxes to keep critters out of them.

Thanks Victor. Wow they have very luvy stuff. Whew they don't ship to Canada or I'd be in big trouble.
Victor you have cut into what i normally would have invested - although this year it may be better to watch your plants grow than portfolio shrink
i depend on you to find the unique and unusual - keep it up!! still waiting on that Anabelle hydrangea that stands tall.
I hear you on the investments. Been tempting lately. I've nibbled a bit.
This is my new hydrangea 'Pink Diamond' that I just put in. I have very high hopes for this one. There are so few that are hardy to my zone. http://www.northscaping.com/Tools/LPS-Engine.asp?CCID=10000000&page=pdp&PID=836
I have a number of them and like them quite a lot. You won't be disappointed.
The site seems to say a lot except where it is. MN?
you have what? - no not another - and dahlia has a link!!
kidding think i have this or one very similiar - whew........
Hee hee.
Wha, I am glad you caught the "Victor" list as I was sure it was going to kill me. Now someone else can share my pain and joy when I see what he recommends. I love the Avant garden site. Plants from them have done well for me. I have resisted visiting there in person. But next spring, I am planning to go there and to Sylvans. Most of our original landscaping came from there.
The weather has not be helpful the last two days, so I just finished planting in the dark my order of peonies and a few other things. Last order of DL's will have to wait until I finish cleaning the beds next week. We are off to Vt for a few days. Wood to stack before the snow flies.

bbrook - i saw your comments on watchdog before i ordered. it was my first time and they treated me like an addict - i got my plants in two days and they threw in a spirea for free to surprise me - like a drug dealer giving a bigger bag to get them to come back LOL
Wha, I am glad they worked out for you. I have always been pleased, then recently I found out that an old friend who has an amazing garden that stretches from an fine old house down through woods to a salt marsh is a dedicated customer of theirs. His house and gardens have been included in tours and a location for fund raisers, so I know he is most particular about where he gets his plants and he raved about them. I hope to visit them when I can go with my friend. I might get the VIP treatment and a free plant like you. I am now in Vt. Some color still left on the trip up, but piles of leaves to rake. Patti
Boy - there is alot of enabling going on here!!!!
And it's the best kind of enabling, too!
Karen
an update on my rarefind order.
I called them Wednesday to add a tree after finding that 35% off message (i have order w/o knowing of the sale so the tree came free after doing the math). Last night they were waiting for me at home.
All were big and healthy - could not be happier - the forthergilla blue shades are beautiful. and the colors on the stewartia psuedocamellia is fantastic.
There is a LOT of planting to do this weekend.
My wife has been patient about finding these boxes in the driveway up until last night - she had to speak to me about where exactly i thought i would be planting everything. Had no answers - hoping on a vision:)
Oops! Ordering too much are we, Bill? I know what that's like. Fortunately for me I don't have a husband to object. I have lots of places to put stuff yet, but no beds really prepared, and the last couple of days I've been pretty sick. Looks like this weekend will be shot for me. I will have to put things in the veggie garden for the winter and transplant in the spring. I still have a lot of leaves to clean up.
Karen
Bill!!! Sounds like you know how to work the system.
Bill and Victor ... you guys crack me up!
Thanks for the chuckles this morning.
I see that RareFind is in New Jersey. Do you find that their offerings are really hardy enough, Victor? And, thanks for another addictive link.
Candyce - Both Rarefind and Avant Gardens supply hardy plants - rarefind's stuff is like going to a garden center and the pkg'ing they use is very weel done. It's actually a pain to get the plants out they tie them down so well.
it's not too late to hit thier sale:)
Ge - the system is for plants to arrive on fridays when i work from home and as long as the evidence is out of sight or i get the plants in the ground all is well - having the evidence in big boxes in front of the garage is something i try to avoid.
i'm safe for the rest of the year with only one more plant to arrive and i do not think i will need/want as much next year. only a few jm's are on the list
