I was just wondering if anyone is doing some fall planting? Any new plants, shrubs or tree's going in your yard this fall? I am adding some more DL's (what's new?), a few new lily bulbs and several new iris's both Tall Bearded and Louisana.

Allison - one reason that plants often have two names is that one of the names is the trademark name for patented varieties. For some reason, they never use the other cultivar name for that.
Jo Anne I was eyeing that 'First Crown' and I own 'Buff Pixie', it's a nice little bud builder!
I had planted First Crown in tubs on the deck last fall.
Little did I know it would be shaded and frozen long into spring anf the bulbe never sprouted, rotted and had to pitch them.
I will plant these in the ground and the Buffs will go at the border of the new shade garden where there is more sun.

Oh boy. Well, the place that I wanted to get my soil delivered from had a few problems. For one, they need me to be here in person to pay the delivery person, because they do not take credit/debit cards over the phone. They were backed up all season, and aren't "open" for delivery until the end of the month. So...my list is very extensive. lol. I have close to 60+ DL's lined out, and have had any and all of them in 1 and 2 gallon nursery pots all season. I have about 2 dozen shrubs and evergreens to get in, the Oxydendrum I bought, a few peonies, the tri color beach, 2 JM's, and a few other here and theres.
I plan on taking 4 days off from work the end of September, it is also the date I'm scheduled for the soil delivery. 10yds of soil now. Then 5-8yds of mulch. I still have a little over 2 dozen hosta to plant. And still have a few pots to divide things up, and bring them in.
I also am going to attempt to build a "light garden" and get the coleus cuttings, brug cuttings, and new EE pups under lights also.
Big ambitions, I hope I can get this all done in 6 days :-)
I won't bother listing all of the DL's or Hosta...too much typing...I'll just show the pics of everything next year. I've been busy over the last week or so, collecting and writing out the crosses I made of DL's that had pods on them :-) That, I'm very excited about!
I forgot about the bulbs from the bulb co-op. Oye :-)
It will be easy to get them in, relatively speaking...
Ha ha ha Thom!! You sound like me when I had a 175 bulbs to put in one fall. Or better yet.... Patti with her 7000!!

Next Spring is going to be a big time project also. I plan on have anywhere from 15-20 tons of stone dropped off. I found that the 3 tons I had dropped off, did what I needed it to, but it still isn't "finished" in my book. Plus I need to get the stone for the pond I want to create, and top off the garden/DL seedling bed. I might end up getting rid of the veggie garden, and transform the whole area into a DL seedling bed...lol.
I found that the 4 Earthboxes did enough to keep Paul and I eating ok. Next year, it will be pole beans intstead of zucchini in an Earthbox though.
I wish I had the soil here now so I can start getting this stuff in :-/
Watering everything has been a challenge, so I welcomed the monsoon like weather over the last few days.

I was just signed on to DG and realized I needed to think bigger.

I can't imagine having to plant 7000 bulbs, maybe with a backhoe.
This year will be the most bulbs I ever plantes,about 300 different types from Daffs. to lilies.
Bending over is bending over doesn't matter if its a narcissus or a lily.
I got a few things from Thom and got them in the ground today.
Also a co-op with bulbs, I got some different alliums. I have always wanted the BIG ones so got a few.
Who knows what I'll come home with after visiting Wellsweep on Sat. lol.
onewish 1 'Plum Quirky' is a MTB (Miniature tall bearded) iris. So it won't be as tall as some others.Plant it more towards the middle of the bed where you can see it.
it actually ended up on the skirts of a small round bed that has a huge evergreen in the middle of it... on the sunny side of course... there are a few hosta, bleeding hearts and coral bells there.... haven't been able to plant much in there due to the currant root system of the evergreen and prior tree roots that we took down a few years back... I found a sunny spot that I was able to dig a hole... and in it went

Wow, Thom! Big plans. I pray for good weather for you with no rain for those 6 days of work, work, work. Then you'll need a vacation just to rest. LOL! I do stuff like that. Every spring I take long weekends off from work, plus I take a week or 2 off in July just to work in my gardens. Sometimes weather is great, sometimes not. I hate it when it's not. It's at those times that I wish I could just go into work. I have to admit I've played hookey a time or 2 on really nice days just so I could get some work done in my yard. I hate being at work when my gardens are beckoning.
I have gotten so many new perennials this year, and I haven't even finished planting them all. I'm always getting more than I can plant.

Pixie62560, My DH remembered my 7000 bulb madness last year and fears the worst for this year. He even ordered a new bulb auger to be prepared. I have been a tad more restrained so far by a few thousand. Though the bulb buying season is still young. I do have a nice batch ordered already.
I planted about a 100 new iris from 2 coops yesterday. More coming. I have a couple shrubs to buy next week, but not sure which ones yet. We have a dead big pitch pine that we will want to replace with a tree. Something perhaps evergreen.
Ge1836, Sweet of you to remember my tulips. I have found some new ones that I think will be good, but mostly adding new numbers to the more perennial ones that we have already. Drifts, thinking drifts anchored by drifts of the minor bulbs. Or as Brent and Becky call them "shoes and socks" Todd Boland has been writing some great DG articles about some lesser yet vital spring bulbs. One of many of his stellar articles that are all a must read in my mind.

I did order a lot of new narcissus. I even ordered some more pricey ones for me from Old House as well as some from all my favorite sources like Brent and Becky and Buggy Crazy. But nothing more than 3.00 a bulb. I can]t get my head around spending more yet. I will do as final buying during the late Nov sales as I can plant here very late. I did a couple of fat orders from Van E. and their sister company John Scheepers plus from Eflowergarden and from Mcclure and Z all of which included a variety of spring flowering bulbs as well as a few others.
Of course their will be lilies to plant. Buggy crazy order is always a treat.
Thom and Nutsfor, sure are covering the DL plantings. I will be holding off on more this fall. I have some that need moving from the non fenced side of the garden to the fenced as the deer now eat the flowers. For years they left them alone mostly. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Victor has some interesting sounding shrubs on his list. I will be checking on them as he is always ahead of the curve on good shrubs to plant.

I just got 5 packages yesterday, 3 more hosta. Only 2 more on the way from NC, then hosta are done for the year. I received 2 very extremely gargantuan sized hosta from Jim's, I couldn't believe their size...the leaves curled around the inside of the top of the largest triangle shaped UPSP priority shipping box...atleast 2.5'...atleast!
The other 4 boxes were all LA wins. I only have 5 more orders coming in from the LA. Then I'm done for the year. I became a Munson Maniac late in the season :-( but boy did I make up for it...lol.
I'm going out to conquer and divide, and move stuff today. lol.
