More pretty Palms.
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #59 visit with friends...
Ruby, they look as large as plates....
Betty, VA Beach is about a 4 hour drive from our house. On Wednesday we drove to The Outer Banks of North Carolina where my older son and his family were also vacationing. We didn't go to the beach there but stayed around the gigantic house that a group of them rented for the week. The Outer Banks trip from VA Beach was less than two hours.
On October 17, John and I will also drive to Atlantic City New Jersey for a week. The draw there during the summer months is the beach and the casinos during the colder months. We are not really big gamblers, but I find playing the slots to be lots of fun. I don't know how to stop when I am ahead though. ha-ha I always end up spending my limit pretty quickly. John has promised to take me over in to New York City one of the days that we are in Jersey. I haven't been able to talk him in to going with me in the fifteen years that we have been together.
Another highlight of that week will be going back and doing some Christmas shopping at The Christmas Tree Shops that are located in the northern states. Good, good prices on all sorts of household things. Last summer our car was completely packed to the gills when we headed home. This time I will pack less from home so that I will have more room for the Christmas shopping. ha-ha
Signing off for the day. Be careful on your trip home Betty.
Ruby
Will check back in the AM.
Ruby
Ruby, a few years ago I went to Atlantic City on my way down to Florida, drove the east coat down..took ferry from tip of New Jersey to Maryland..Maryland I found, although I only travelled it a bit, had so many homes that were heritage homes..I found it to be the cleanest and nicest of the areas I've ever visited...then I believe we drove from there to Washington and did Arlington Cemetery and visited much...but going back to Atlantic City and the boardwalk, just as we drove in along one part of the roadway were so many pond shops...clue #1, people must be losing money right? so although we walked through the casino's I saved my money and spent it at the pottery place in Myrtle Beach..lol...I just love those Christmas places...think there is one of the Christmas Tree stores in Clearwater just up from Mom's place..forgot about it last year..will have to look for it...tell John you need one of those roof carriers...lol
Whew! I'm done making my name tags for now. Another 1 1/2 hours to go, then I get to go argue with Dave again. JOY!
No I haven't got the fans yet, I can't find anything I like. Hoping they go on sale here pretty soon since fall's right around the corner.
Just popping in to say hi to everyone. Hope you're all having a good day
Nice pictures everyone!
Hi the to do list hasn't gotten much shorter. Which is quite normal. Will head outside pretty soon. See what I can do out there.
Hope you all are having the day you need!
Vicki
Vicki, maybe your 'to do' list is unattainable...maybe there is just toooo much on that list... if you accomplished one or two of the chores then you've done well...outside is way more funner..lol...before you know it we'll all be housebound...
Keep waiting for telephone to ring in hopes Danielle has had her baby! 15 minute left and north bound I go..only get about 15 minutes before everyone come for class...
Enjoy your evening all..
Good Evening All!
Betty, enjoy class.
Ruby, Thank you for Sharing your vacatio photos. Very Beautiful area!
Well, Today was nice and busy...Was asked to help with some research and record findings. Good to keep the mind occupied on business at hand. LOL not to mention day went quickly and I am home.
Vicki, I have tried keeping lists, but they never get accomplished because the mental list I keep nocks out the written, hahha, does that make sence? Plus whatever you accomplish is one less thing for the nextime. I hope you got some of it done! Are you still canning? It's such a pretty day so i hope you have been working outside to enjoy it...that and play catch with Ty!
OK speaking of which, I am going off to get some things put away and maybe get some more weeding done.
Hope you get some good news about Baby tonight Betty!
Thanks Judy, am waiting for news...girls are just arriving so I'm off..might drop in for a visit a little later...
Carol...2 more sleeps right...lol...isn't that what the children ask when they are excited about going somewhere?
Starzz----
My "Aunt" Marija in Latvia--and I--are not at all genetically linked! She is the widow of my Aunt's (my Mom's Sister) husband. So--NO connection....except in the Heart and mind!
Bev--
Turning 65 is almost a new gateway to better health coverage. Medicare is great--and then, you need to buy the "supplemental" for all the stuff Medicare does not cover. I pay about $200/month for this, but it is well worth it.
I have had about 6 surgeries since I have been 65 and have not had to pay one cent for any of them. These include 2 knee replacements--which can run $20K each!
On a different topic--is your blue plant you posted a Hyssop? I just went outside, at work today,on my lunch hour (at HD) and gathered about 1 cup of seed from the Anise Hyssop "Black Adder" outside the garden gate on all the tables they keep perennials on. They wil;l be trashing them soon anyway!!!
I have NO intention of growing any of these in my limited garden--but I sure will have seeds to share or swap.
Ruby---
Thanks for the pictures of the Tomato volunteers I gave you.
I claim ownership of the ones that are the red cherries. "Maybe"---the bigger one on the left is a "Cherokee Purple"---it has that smoky dark coloring at the top of the tomato.
Was the flesh inside a really dark red???? If it was--it might be a Ch. Prpl. You can save seeds from any of these as you eat them.
The long, skinny one------have NO idea!!!!! Maybe it is from a Roma I bought at the store? Any of these are possible--as I dug out, and mixed in, some of the soil from my Composter. All, and any, seeds can be in there.......
I am jealous of the beach you went to.......How I love the beach--and how I have not been to one in ages!!!! I have never been to Myrtle Beach! I have never been to the "Outer Banks".....I went to OC in MD last year for 2 days only--with my sister.....just to meet Herbie.....Besides, my Sister used to work there when she was in High School. She is the one that lives in Alaska.....
Kind of hard to do vacations when you are by yourself, a senior, and no one else to go with......NO fun! I think being on vacation, anywhere, is double the fun if you ARE with someone special that comes along.....Going anywhere by myself would just reinforce how "alone/lonely" I am. So--I don't go anywhere......Really--just don't want to....Bummer!!!!
OK! Pass the hankies.......Gita
Gita, know the feeling...well class just left, painting witchie poohs...lol..Hortence Noseworthy is the witches name...Rita got a call from Jerry just before leaving, he got a call his father is taking his last breath..it's 1 1/2 drive to Oshawa..long way when you are tired...Jerry is an Ontario Provincial Policeman and just finished a long shift, was getting ready for bed when he got the call..Rita is staying home because of the animals...she was so very upset..pray that he makes it...
Tired/tired, long day and another tomorrow and yet another on Friday so better get things cleaned up and get myself to bed...
Heck, I know that feeling too. I'm married and living that, DH works graveyard, or 3rd shift. I do everything by myself, and since I'm new to Arkansas I don't know anyone, or have any friends here, just the people I work with who all have families. I'd take a cruise, you can meet lots of people on a cruise and they're not going anywhere lol! Unless you get motion sick!
Oh God, they're talking about the impact to come for Arkansas from Ike. UUGGGGHHHHHH! I feel so selfish for thinking about myself before others, but you can't help others unless you help yourself first. Is that selfish?
Early morning prayers...

Good morning everyone. I think a bunch of us gals should get together and go on a cruise! Sounds like even some of us who are with someone, never get to go anywhere! I want to travel!!!!!
Hurry up and win that lotto, so we can all meet you there!!!
Linda Kay
Thanks for that Betty! Very nice!
Oh man Cat! That sounds fun! Dave and I were going to go on a cruise this next spring but now that I don't have any days off we're not planning on going. I accrue more time at the first of the year so we'll see how much time I get.
Thanks for the card, Betty..
I have relatives who are having to evacuate east Texas because of the hurricane, and they are on their way here. Made me think of others who are in the path of this storm. This same thing happened a few years ago with Katrina and the one following, Rita, I think...and then we had 14 people here with us. It is so devastating, and I am so glad they do have a place to come to, but there are others who don't.
This is Bob's older brother and his family, not sure how many, but I know it is going to be very hard for his brother to come back to this house since Bob is no longer here.
Take care, those of you who are in the far south, and be safe.
Sharon

Cat..when Roger was alive he hated to travel, either it was boating season or snowmobile season and my girlfriend Barb's husband Harvey was same so Barb and I (both same age) travelled all over the USA..she was terrified of flying so it was driving we did..she always had a brand new vehicle so we used hers and I paid the gas..even steven we would say...then she passed on about 5 years ago - cancer...I've many friends so I can't complain but all are married or unable to travel so that just leaves me...now Rita and Shawnee leave from Shawnees summer home in Ft. Myers Florida and take a cruise..want me to go this year but with driving mom down to Florida/visiting with girlfriend Geraldine and flying home I just can't fit it in..
But I am planning to go to Frankenmouth Michigan on Oct. 17th/18th and will be meeting up with a few DG friends..that's exciting, and then of course I ventured out alone to visit with Judy and Liz, tomorrow with Carol but that's just about 2 1/2 hr. drive from her place to mine..piece of cake...
So yes, we should be looking for a trip we all could go on, imagine the shenanigans...lol...
Suzanne just came in no baby, mix up with hospital and Doctors so they induced her, some new method, something they insert, send you home and when you get closer you go to hospital..so Danielle has been in labor off and one since yesterday aft. - hospital 3 times to be checked and home again..Suzanne had appt.'s that she could reach so had to come in...shouldn't take more than 1 hr. and then she's off again...
Judy, thought of you this morning...driving the Hwy.400 radio on 740, tunes playing and they gave the #1 best seller in 50 years...Chubby Checker and the Twist took the spot..so my hands are tapping on the steering wheel, bottom part of my body doing the twist, I'm just a singing and I think a couple of truck drivers wondered if I was having a fit..lol..put a little bit of sadness though when old Dean Martin sang "you are nobody unless somebody loves you so find yourself somebody to love!"
Waiting for Rita to msn me and let me know if Jerry made it to Oshawa before his had passed...I rescheduled for next week and put it to Thursday forgetting that I registered for classes, so either we'll cancel all together or I'll make it Tuesday night as Shawnee and Rita were unable to make the Wedn. regular class..Rita will be taking her youngest brother for specialist appt. - has cancer..wow, can't think of anyone who is unaffected by the big 'c'...
Linda Kay/Crissy, my dream would be to win just enough to purchase a nice motorhome and enough for gas to be able to leaves and do the entire Canada/USA visiting friends/family with no calendar or watch to monitor my coming and goings...no more than that...mind you at the price of gas I'd best hope to win more..lol
I'd love to come up there and check lower Canada out. My mom was just in Minneapolis to find a doctor who'll cut some nerves for her, she said it was nice, but she's way afraid of driving up after the first of October and she's going to have to for treatment. She lives in Oklahoma and spent the first 50 some-odd years of her life in California.
Well Crissy doors are always open and bedrooms waiting for guests...
Just got a call from Paul, two fold...
His daughter Cindy who works in office next door to us had an accident this morning just prior to meeting her sister at the pick-up point...apparently the car is a right off and police say she's lucky to be alive..she's going to hospital for a check up..must say though this young lady travels much too fast, some of you recall when I used to travel with them when Suzanne had other plans for the day and I quickly decided to drive myself...she wasn't charged but did get a ticket for $115.00..she is lucky...
Then he's been working on renting 2 buildings, one for the men to work out of the city and one for us up north..well it's been so close..apparently he's now signing the 2 leases today and the city office should be ready mid Oct. and the Barrie office which is closer than the one he was trying to purchase in Innisfil will be ready Nov. 1st. because things have gone wrong so many times in the past with the purchase I'm not getting my hopes up, but it does sound positive doesn't it....
Wayne the gentleman who works in the office who is Dr. Jenkyl and Mr. Hyde and I will be alone in the office for the next 2 days..not a problem for me because I have my crafts to keep me busy...he's absolutely NOT a nice man..obnoxious / insulting etc. etc. we were all going to speak to Paul about it but figured with his working on dividing the offices why bother...I treat the man with kindness/respect but when he's having an off day which really is every day or rather every morning and gets a little jovial the odd day in the afternoon and I'm just tired of playing kindergarden games...if it's a business call or a need to go into his office for something it's done in the same manner as always, but no more gabbing ..nope...don't need it! Now don't I sound mean..lol
Oh Man, I just made a nice long post...poof!
Anyway, not sure if i can repeat as fingers were just typing at my very thought.
But...Thank you Betty for the lovely card.
Also,
Marion...Happy Birthday to you!!
will upload a picture of this pretty plant.
Pic from last year but It is in full Bloom in my front garden, right by the tree and the bridge. So pretty.
P.S. Good Morning everyone.
Thank you very much Judy.
Wishes you 'Happy Birthday' Marion on one of the other threads...but worth singing again...what special thing will you be doing today, don't tell me please it's cleaning up after the storm...lol
Thank you very much Betty. No, have a trip today to Gainesville. Opening meeting for the planning committee for the 2009 festival. I am chair so I guess I should show up. Later have dinner with friends and tomorrow a little shopping spree.
Good for you...you love the planning committee meetings now don't you? lol...if they are anything like the commitee's I've been on...wow...shopping spree sounds wonderful though..
Well--they can get hectic at times. Have some who think outloud regardless of the topic. Hard time keeping them on track but manage. Until we get the theme selected for next year, the meetings aren't much fun. After that is in place, things go smoothly for the most part.
Happy Birthday Marion! Hope it is a wonderful day no matter what you do!
Okay Starzz I finally made a list of the Hosta's I have gotten recently and I bet you have them all.
Mini hosta Parade and Pandora's Box
Undulata Medioputa(hope I spelled it right)
So Sweet
Sunspot from a trade
I am just a beginner with them and have a feeling the deer will like them very much. So tried to keep the cost down on them. LOL
Went back to sleep on the couch as I didn't get enough sleep. Woke up to hummingbirds fighting over the feeders. The feeding frenzy has started. So layed and watched them for a bit. Got up and there were lots of flickers in the yard. I don't think I have seen more then 3 at one time before. Lots of others birds also. So it was kind of neat seeing them all.
Judy you would of loved it.
Betty hope the leases work out so you have that shorter drive. Just thinkof what you can get done then!
Here's a flower for the birthday girl and anyone else that needs cheering up!
HI all,
Just popping in to say hello.
Got to cut some more grass for Betty's visit tomorrow. Yesterday I drove past the garden place that Betty and I are visting..and saw they had a sale on plants..hope they have a sale on the other garden art too.
Just finished lunch..early one..needed it..seem to be hungrier since I quit smoking..
But I am trying to eat healthy.
Happy Birthday Marion!
I just mailed off my sister's birthday gift this morning..and wrapped my dear friend, and neighbours birthday gift too.
They will be away ..so I will give it to her early.
Ok..gotta go..
Oh Ruby..nice photos of your vacation spot..thanks..
Cheers,
Carol
Carol, stop the cleaning/stop the yard duty, sit and enjoy one of the last few days of summer...I'm not company I'm just a friend dropping in for quick visit..
Hungry as well but since I have to say ' going for lunch Wayne, please look after the telephones' I'm almost tempted to starve...I'll break down though and go..
Yes Vicki, hope it goes through as well, not till I'm at the office and opening the door for the first time will I get excited...this is on Suzanne's advice..but, it does look promising..would take me 35 minutes for so from my house so that's quite a time savings..
Not sure why Vicki but I've only seen 2 hummers all summer, perhaps with all the flowers there was no need for them to find my feeders...
Storm sure is going to create havoc down in Texas I hear...sure hope all are prepared and are safe...
Hi,
Yes, it does look good Betty, i sure do hope so...geeze, can't imagine what your going to do with the extra time...giggle, giggle.
Your crafting table looks nice and busy. I spotted that several are working the witch. how fun, anxious to see finish products!! No word on Baby yet huh?
Oh Ves, you are right i would have loved to see all the birds. I have never seen more then one hummer around my yard so see them fight would be a treat in a weird kind of way. LOL...I have had a couple wood peckers but only in spring. Took a picture but it is pretty far away, even with my zoom. Watched a couple squirrels go at it on Sunday! They were really chasing after eachother. one had a nut the other really wanted bad. it was funny to see and the one with a nut went hiding in the mini house!! The other watched for a while then sulked away. I could could hear the one in the house shaking with fear. Then after about 15 minutes he come strolling right passed with his nut and off to his tree...funny thing is I don't know how he managed to squeeze inside the windows and doors are pretty small.
Well done with lunch! See you all later.
Judy, no hummers but for a few days been looking for the 'crickets' that are making my laundry room home...seems whenever I get close to finding them, they go silent...must be somewhere near the vents as I can hear them clearly in my bedroom as well...
Oh Betty, wouldn't a fall color trip be nice. We don't have any trees down here to change color, and I miss that so bad!!!, So how about a few pictures from your place when they do start. That would be so pretty!
Thanks
Linda Kay
Between Carol and I I'm sure we'll have all kinds for you..there is a concession just up from me that the trees bend over the roadway for about 1/2 mile and in the fall it's the most breath taking sight to travel on it...will make sure I take my camera with me, but again, come see for yourself...
