AuntB there wasn’t a sole around by the time I got home so this crippled hottie changed into super hottie and did it herself. Where there is a will there is a way, I drove them down the back in the trailer and a wagon with the tractor. They are still in the wagons in the shed so I can roll them down the ramp when it stops. They’re going to be taking up residence in the back yard until frost, closer to the basement door. I really do wonder how many neighbors were peeking out their windows while I was driving the Burg parade down the street. I’m sure it was an unusual site. No matter, they all think I’m the crazy plant lady, so I just proved them right.
Nite nite
She's About To..........#14
You're a pioneer woman after my own heart Donna! I would have love to seen you driving that tractor, you go girl!
lol Donna! Hope your back is ok after all of that hard work, I need to do that tomorrow morning. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ to all and love always, Clem
Praying for all my hottie sisses on the coast to be safe and no damage. Sandra she is so cute!! Bonnie, my seedlings are pink beauty and ecuador pink crosses. I can sure see the heritage! Half of my seedlings look just like that!
Love that grouping too Bonnie. Is that larger Alocasia illustris? I was at a nursery last week that was selling hilo beauty as illustris. I knew their tag was wrong.
although illustris is a colocasia I guess, I really don't much know the diff. My sis just bought one of the batwings.

Hello Hotties New here tonight. Happy to join all of you and so envious.
I need all of these and that hibiscus is gorgeous AuntB.
Sandy I am also a Sandy. I would love to live close to help with that angel. Long story but I am being wrongly punished and not allowed to see my 5 soon to be 6 and 7 soon to be 8 DGDs. They live in a horrible situation and right now not a thing I can do but trust God with them. My son was granted custody in his divorce and neither a fit parent. You know she is not if she lost cudtody and he is not....I know he is my (X) son. So DS would not be Dear.
They are both precious to me and think I hung the moon. When they look at me with all that love it makes me feel like I did hang the moon. WOW what a love to have given so freely. We have secrets only we know. And they know they can tell me anything unless it will hurt them I will never tell. I also taught them about strangers. If you want to know I will share. I did not scare them but taught them to run and protect themselves. I love to be Nonnie. It has been 4 months since I last saw them.
Kiss you GB for me. and a huge hug for you and your husband.
I love being on with all of you.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Morning hotties,
I’m and walking straight this morning so no back damage that I can tell. Yes the parade was hysterical, New Orleans Lady, topping the crowd in the trailer at over 5’ with her 8 ready to open buds. I was driving the tractor at a crawl pace so I would not disturb them. They are safely tucked away in the shed with windows open for ventilation. The forecast looks a little better this morning as Hanna with pass over us quickly.
Welcome (also) Sandy, sorry to hear the situation with your DGC, I am just now realizing how blessed I am to have a DD and a DSIL that love and take such good care of my DGD and soon to be DGS. I never have to worry as they provide a safe and loving home for them.
AuntB, so beautiful the blooms on Cherry Cola, and the white burg is just stunning. I’m with Becky and have the See, Want, Got to have, disease. So keep posting those pix and we will keep yearning and drooling until we go out and get some for ourselves.
The wind is picking up here now so I’m off to lay down the masses. Hope all stays well for all the East Coast Hotties and Hanna blows over quickly with no damage.
Sandy 8....Welcome! You can safely tell your story here. This thread is a treasure and we will all ban together against the evils of Life.It is a crime to keep those precious children away from there Nonnie♥ for so long. But, this too shall pass☺He promised☺Blessings from the Hottie Network☺
AuntB, your pics are all incredible. What a beautiful garden you have created with such a diverse group of plants☺. I too think of Mayberry whenever I see your posts☺It gives me a fuzzy, warm feeling and you are a wonderful Hottie sis☺
Donna, you have given me such a "Sweaty Hottie" visual. Do be careful of the ole back because your Brugs are awesome and they need you☺☺
Beck, you are allowed at least 20 pics to post of any Brug Blooms you get...... ♥here's hoping it's soon♥
Welcome Sandy 2 lol. I am so sorry for your trials. They cannot take your love for them away no matter what! Hopefully your son will come to his senses! No matter what you feel about him you could always offer to babysit if needed. That usually works lol. Hugs to you and bless you too for your loving support of them! Donna so glad you are ok! If we had a storm of that nature tomorrow my husband would be complaining about moving stuff because I cannot carry all those pots upstairs!
Wow! The tears are not just rolling, unfortunately for my Hurricane sisters', they have breached. Thank you, Sandy 2. Funny! In high school my best friend was named Sandy too, and I was Sandy No1 and she was Sandy No. 2. Tears of sorrow and tears of joy. What a recipe!
It is coldddd here this morning! Sweater weather. I went out to get some pics of the morning glories and they are all curled up. They are not appreciating this weather at all. Supposed to be back in the 80's next week. I did get a nice pic of my spanish eyes black eyed susans. I just love these. The flowers are smaller than the orange ones.
Oh Louise, so pretty, seeds please, if they make them and you have extra.
The baby is sleeping and I think we need to become productive again. Sandy8, I think we need to chat. Yeah! But first, I am going to go take a pic of the Brug, aka (still call it a Moon Flower) that I have finally succeeded in growing on the rocks on the beach. Gotta be up beat and positive, the hand, foot and mouth disease won't be here for ever, it's just a virus and it's Super Sandy to the rescue. Get on Board!!! LOL
They are making seeds Donna, the trick is catching them before they fall. lol I have a couple pods right now. Still debating about over wintering these. They are mite candy. If they do well with the spray I am going to use I will try over wintering them. I ordered this one from a green house in the spring and it brought mites with it and infested my entire sunroom. I understand why now, both my black eyed susan vines have had mites all season in spite of the neem spray I used on them. I bought a systemic I am going to spray on every body before I bring them in.
Oh jezzz, it's off to Urgent care I go. Wow! Three days in a row with a fevor. One minute of peace and tranquility just isn't enough.
Saying prayers for her Sandra!!
Good morning everyone. Hope all is ok Sandy.
I'm off in a bit to go to my youngest GD's 1st birthday party. Doesn't seem like it's been a year since she was born!!! Have a super day everyone and hope Hanna didn't do too much damage
Mornin Hottie Sisi's!!
Louise ...pretty pic!! Ohhh now another one I "think" I can't live without..lol.. I hear you girl!! Even down here in TX it's pretty "chilly"
Sandy2.. so nice to see you again!! and WELCOME here.. are you going to the Tyler RU?? I haven't seen you post in a while? I only met you briefly at the Jacksonville RU.. so you may not remember me.. it's soo sad that we all have our own lil problems.. called LIFE.. and a sign of the times...these girls are wonderful here, and I assure you .. they have your back..and they will help you feel better in only ways they can do!!
Bonnie... gosh you have such beautiful flowers!! I have that EE in more shade.. and was thinking I might need to move it into more sun. It only gets morning sun... ahhh the joy of having a master brug teacher on here that can help me on ALL the plants!!..LOL
Ty LU!!!... I have been waiting.. NOT too patiently all year for a bloom..LOL.. but I have to admit, I had just about given up.. and I guess that is why she showed "out".. YAY!!!
Clemie...^_^ Hope Hannah doesn't get all the way up there to you!!
Donna.. soo glad your back is ok!!.. yes.. we have to do what we have to do... When we were in Ennis at the nursing home.. one of the aids was looking at another aid to bend down to plug in a fan.. I said.. what?? she said.. I have a pinched nerve in my back.. I said I have 2 herniated disks, and I just had steroid shots.. AND I am older!! ..LOL.. I said.. give me that plug!!!! We aint Hottis Sis's for nothing!! So glad "hopefully" Hannah blows out fast!! Now we are watcing Ike!!
maybe some of you can help me on my pic taking.. ya'lls looks like magazine quality, and mine look over exposed!! They do look a lil better before I send them here... what gives??
cat, have fun at the birthday party! Becky, I have always worked circles around the kids I have worked with! I am a slacker though compared to the older ladies at the factory I worked at, and most of them had major health problems! They never complained either...just limped along doing their thing. Linda Kay that is fabulous!!!
Good morning everyone! Sandy, I hope you'll be able to make our ET RU also. I met you in Jacksonville and you are such a sweet lady! I'm praying that you get to see you grandbabies before long....
Everyone, just to clarify, Sandy2 is ilovejesus99.....the "8" you saw after her name is an angel symbol. Welcome Sandy!
Drumroll please.............I have a single bud on my 2 Brug that has never bloomed yet...It is a rooting that Ken and Maggi gave me at the last RU. I hope it is pink. The butter yellow plant I showed you a few days ago ended up turning a rich golden yellow before it was over. Isn't it amazing how many Brugs go through the color changes?
I'm looking forward to a nice day. My sister is bringing my dear Mama home next week to see me....I must explain that my Mama (83) went to live in Houston in a very nice nursing home right down the street from my sister back in April. Mama gave me her house, the house I grew up in, where she lived for 45 years. She has not traveled since her move because it is a very long trip, but wants to come "home" and see us and the house for a visit. I am working to clean the house and the yard so that everything will look real pretty when she gets here. Isn't it funny how for years "she" cleaned this same house for me and the kids to come visit? I love the circle of life......I am one of few people I know who sleeps in the same bedroom I was conceived in. I think it's beautiful.
Hope all you hotties have a wonderful day! Love and Hugs, Karen
Karen what a lovely story and I hope the visit is wonderful!
Karen, how wonderful that you've a family reunion soon. Welcome Sandy2, and Sandra_D hope your day will be a good one today.
Bonnie, your garden is beautiful, I wished we live closer so I can visit and have a cup of tea or coffee with you while we enjoy your beautiful garden!
Brugmansias and all their mesmerizing qualities. Here is a peachy bloom (or two -- the green bud --sticking up in the middle is that of a tripple datura soon to open) of Dr. D. brug.
Louise, I haven't ever seen those orchids. Are they tropicals? Sounds like it cause you are talking about digging them up.
Does anyone no a good way to store caladium bulbs?
We had lots of rain, sorry for you north of me not getting any! We were bone dry and i am sure you are also.
Out to dig and plant! yeah!!!
Joyce they are tropicals. You see them for sale every spring with the spring bulbs. They are awesome, but need a pretty sunny location to bloom early as possible. I do have some in front too and they get only half day sun and have done well too. I really would love to try them in pots. They do well just pulled up and set in a box for the winter with my tuberoses. I am planning on leaving my caladiums in their pots for the winter so we shall see how that goes. Becky my camera is an older model digital only 3mp's. I turn on the red eye filter and it takes better pictures of the flowers, but there are many that do not get the true color captured. Overcast days are better or early morning or evening. Full sunlight just does not do well for my pics. I hope to get a better camera with higher megapixel capabilities. Also if I zoom there cannot be any background behind the flowers or it will focus on the back ground and take a fuzzy picture.
Good morning, Hotties!
Donna, bless you and little Amiyah. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is one bad infection. (I'm not fully awake, so I may have spelled it wrong!) It is believed that once someone has it they are "colonized" and it can come back over and over. It is also considered very contagious. There have been stronger antibiotics formulated to combat it, but we are scared it will mutate again and become resistant to those, too. And getting thrush and urinary tract infections are a side effect of those antibiotics, not usually from kissing. Whew! Some docs, when whole families are colonized, are having people completely throw out all soft surfaces, bedding, (including mattresses), towels, clothing, etc. Anything that would possibly be contaminated and then sterilize all hard surfaces. This has become one of the major scares in the medical community and there is no real "cure" yet. It's best just to become a clean fanatic, especially anywhere little hands might be (doorknobs, toys, toothbrushes, etc.) My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Beautiful buds and blooms everybody. Beck, you just had to rub it in, didn't ya? LOL!! All right, be sure and post pictures. I still think mine will bloom while I am out of town!
Okay, I got called to go to work this morning, so I'll check back later. :( Peg
Kimbob, that peach is to die for and would love to see the dat when it blooms, they are another of my favs. Karen yippy and congrats on the bud. I will be so wonderful for your mama to come home for a visit. Beautiful Quad Linda Kay, soooooooo pretty. Becky, I’m still moving, doing what needs to be done. Just came in from a date with Mr Pick Axe, had to do a little trenching the basement is already leaking. I’ve done all I can, I’ll leave the rest to Mother Nature and pray she is kind today. For the pictures it might be the settings on the camera, or if not what photo software are you using? There may be some options on it that will help. I’m pretty good with the software end if you need help, not so good with the camera I just point and shoot. Birthday wishes to you DGS Cat have a great day. Louise I don’t mind the mites so much in the yard so much, I have lots of room here and keep those plants far away from the masses. Don’t want those little buggers in the house so they will be an annual vine for me.

Just in for a sec.. had to show ya'll Emma grace's MG's she gave me.. I am still NOT so sure I will love these, since I am NOT a vine person.. and these grow like weeds..LOL..BUT I have to admit they are pretty
Donna... I imagine it's me.. I have windows, and I downloaded Picassa, but haven't figured that one out, how to send to here. That one really makes the pics outstanding! I also had the flash on..and turned it off, and that seemed to help. I just can't "see" what I am doing when I am trying for the close ups.... Girl.. that wasn't a fun "date"..LOL you just better be careful!!
Karen.. isn't it a wonderful feeling to know you now own your parents house?? Have fun with your Momma today!!
Peg... awww Peg..hehehe... maybe it was planting them in the ground that did it.. go check you might have buds too!!
Louise.. I wouldn't worry about getting another camera.. yours takes wonderful pics!! But maybe it's the pic taker too!!
Joyce,.. I think you can also store bulbs in the frig, but not with apples.. TG I don't have to worry.. mine come back next spring
Louise, the caladiums I am getting will be in a swap so they won't be potted. Do you think I should pot them? They don't want to trade until they have finished enjoying them a little later in the month.
(I know I wasn't going to trade anymore LOL)
This is my list of things I want to overwinter and please anyone who has had any success please let me know your secrets.....Love secrets...LOL
I will ber overwintering:
of course brugs (way too many)
caladiums
ee's (way too many)
coleus
cannas
hibiscus
calla lilies
tuberoses
ginger
dalhias - several different colors and I can't figure out how to store them and keep the colors straight! Every summer is a surprise on what colors made it or if even more so when they bloom in the different gardens.
water plants - like the umbrella thing. Somone said they put it in their bathroom in standing water....
I have a bunch of sedums I put in a concrete planter this year and it has turned out beautiful, I would hate to lose them but the planter is not very deep and round, which is why I put sedum in there because it dries out so bad. Any opinions?
Right Hotties without an opinion, that is an oxy moron.....LOL
Okay, Hotties I am depending on you and all your knowledge.....HELP
Becky, I haven’t tried Picassa, I just assumed that the download would be incredibly long on dial up. I have Photo Shop Elements 4 on my pc so that’s what I use to adjust them. I usually have my camera (which is 4 years old) set on auto, but it does have a macro setting in the modes menu for close ups. I’ll have to check out the Picassa site, you’re on dial up too so it’s worth looking into.
Oh goodness, the weather changed in a second, downpouring now, I believe Hanna is starting to show her stuff.
Joyce, I have lots that you have so I will also be awaiting answers on some. The dahlia colors I’ve used string tags wherever I can loop or tie on. I was thinking of trying little pieces of removable labels (not so sticky) and markers for a little dot of a close color. Not sure it that’s a good idea or not.
Oh Becky just rub it in that it doesn't get 10 below zero there in the winter!!!! LOL
On digital cameras, when posting on the internet if you post a picture that is taken with a high resolution camera at a high resolution you will kill our dial up folks (I have been guilty of this) and you might as well match your printer to your new camera because the printer can't print any higher than it is built for or you will need to take all your pics to a professional imaging place. So when buying that camera make the good folk tell you which printer will print that image at the highest resolution of the camera...think you will be surprised. Printing at higher dots per inch than the printer's optimal image resolution is useless since it will not result in better image quality. A printer that delivers 600 dpi resolution is generally considered photo-quality, but there are other factors that influence how a print looks to the naked eye. The kind of paper you use to print the image has a dramatic effect on print quality, the number of colors the printer uses, and the way the ink is applied. Hewlett-Packard's PhotoREt III is a color layering technology that produces extremely small droplets, resulting in more colors per pixel than other ink-jet printers (as many as 3,500 printable colors per dot). This allows HP to improve print quality through increased color range, rather than increased dpi. I am not an HP rep....LOL but found this and I thought it was very interesting
OK off my soap box...LOL
Happ, On storing, I think I know a few:
On EE, you can bring them inside pot and all. I have had them and bananas growing in my kitchen all winter. My kitchen is very small, so you should have seen the jungle! That was before I realized I could leave them outside. I've also done tropical hibiscus this way and had blooms all winter. Keith has also dug EEs up and packed them in sawdust in a closed box in the garage and saved them that way. I think any of your bulbs/tubers could be done this way. On caladiums, I was told to dig them up, get as much dirt off of them as possible and let them dry as much as possible. Hang them in a pair of pantyhose in a closet in your house. On coleus, I have potted them up and put them in the garage. Some years it works, some years it does not! So, I'm not sure on this. I lost all of them last year.
Not much help, huh?? Oh, well, I tried. :))
Psssssssssst...Afternoon, hotties I'm going to catch up and continue procrastinating on housework .. I'm so bad... Donna I keep imagining you morphing into SUPER HOTTIE! (with music and everything! lol)
Joyce.. yep.. I am sharp.. aren't I.. and I swear I did NOT eat razor soup for breakfast..LOL..LOrdy.. are you sure you aren't about 17??? I thought only the young ones knew all this lingo..lol...ty though... I haven't even tried to print anything.. now I might have a new can of worms on that..I am just trying to get this camera to take a pic like I think it's supposed to. I took a pic of a red confederate rose, and it was pink.. and the green isn't as green either.. so I don't know what is wrong! I had it set for automatic...and like that MG.. it's not as clear as it should be, being on macro...hmmm.. to complicated for me! I got my old camera out, but have to find the usb cord, and then I'll take a few pics with that..
Oh.. I feel for you northern girls.. I am sooo lazy by the end of the season, I would probably just let it all die... ooh I am a plant killer!!..LOL
Donna.. no it downloaded real fast, and it sharpens the pic great, and has all kinds of special effects! I need to spend some time on it to try and figure it out!
Peg... man.. you just need to quit, and join us no worky girls!!..hehe
Bonnie.. there will be NO cussing on this thread!! Do you hear me?? Maybe you can use that nasty word elsewhere.. but on here "housework" is NOT allowed..LOL
OK.. I'm gone before I get into trouble!! hehehe.. I hope all of you are having good weather!! For now!!
I'm trying, I'm trying to catch up to ya'll!
Hi chattie hotties, trying to catch up and can never do it. Can't you just stop for a few minutes, jezzzzzzzzzzzzz! Spent the whole morning moving my tropical plants away from the rain and wind we are supposed to get later. Let's hope the storm is not too bad.
Have a nice day everyone, love you all! Clem
Clemen, brace yourself sista! Hanna's is coming to the east coast. Then following Ike that's probably aiming toward my direction. I may have to go out to the garden and lay all my brugs on their side in hope they won't be blown away. Hope all are having a great weekend. (This is Apricot Queen brug.).
