Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #58 visit with friends...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

I don't know what you found there on the dead Hibiscus????
Were they perennial or Tropical? I don't think anyone would be throwing away perennial Hibiscus--they would long ago be in someone's flower bed by now....

If they were Tropical--they may start making seed pods, but those pods would never mature and produce seeds. Maybe that "black cone" you saw was just the remnant of the pod-that-never-was....

I had an ad from "Logees" this AM on my computer. They are having a sale on their perennial Hibiscus to clear out their G-Houses. Go to their website and see.....Amazing colors!!!!! I already deleted the send--as it always comes in my Suspect Spam folder....
Very unusual! You could buy a pile of them! I thinl they would be in pots and the sales price was somewhere in the $10-$13 category.

Can a company ship plants into Canada?

Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not always Gita..I'll buy some in the spring..the ones I did look at though were perrenials..will take a photo of the cone tonight when I get home...wow the storm is just a brewing, watching trees sway from side to side...yuk

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. Gorgeous Hibiscus Gita.

Hi Laura, how is work going??

(Cathy), MO

Betty did I miss the results of your last tests or are they not in yet???

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dr.'s office hasn't called yet..would assume if something was wrong internally they would have by now as it's been 1 week 2 days..will wait until Monday and call..

(Cathy), MO

They don't seem to get in any hurry do they?

Victoria Harbour, ON

No hurry for sure, Darlene just called me, she's the friend who teaches painting at my house, we'll she has mega difficulties with soft tissue damage from an accident.. she's at Dr's or specialist office at least 3 times a week as per their request, she is being monitored for some testing program... anyway, she's been ill and she said they made an appt. this morning for her, quickest was Sept.17th..

Marguerite who had the accident Wedn. morning at 9 was left in the hallway since then in emergency room...no rooms so they will send her home today providing someone will be there to look after her...

Quite the mess....

Darlene called to tell me her DH Mike ordered me my scroll saw..mine broke this spring, they wanted $250. to repair plus taxes, I paid $699. because it has a 20" throat..poor sucker worked for about 10 yrs. - doesn't owe me a dime...Mike is ordering it through Dewalt because he's in the business and I will get new one for $399. so that's quite a savings..the one I have, I'll keep for parts...

Was going to say isn't she a beauty...but you'd all think I've flipped...but I do love my tools..I would have waited a bit longer but the girls all want to paint that 4' witch so must have a saw to cut them right?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Betty, my son would just love it!!! He is a tool fanatic for sure. Makes birthdays and Christmas easy.

Have a good day.

Morning all.

Glenview, IL

Hehehe, Good Morning!
Betty, Don't think you flipped on tools...
She is a beaut! i think you got enter finger though, ROFL.
I am glad you are getting the new one. Cant wait for my little table saw.

So, I got through my day yesterday...Here is just how BORED I was.
Got home and sorted nuts, bolts, screws...lol you name it. DH cleaned his tool bags and had these all heaped on a paper plate since Monday. Yikes, couldn't stand looking at them any longer so thats how I spent the evening the evening while watching tv...hahha, see Betty, I'll do ANYTHING ahaha, it was something and you should have seen the look on the family's face to see I was sorting these things...But it's done and off my table! woohoo.

Today, I am copying the photos of my computer onto disks. See what rain does to me...got to clean lol anything.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, now that's what I call bored..

Storm is stillbrewing and I'm itching to get out of here and join the girls...50 minutes left to my day..have a list of shopping to do prior or after meeting them..

Was just telling Wayne that I went to Canadian Tire this morning looking for something that I had said I needed that was on sale, walked around and came out with 2 drill bits..that wasn't what I wanted...awhile ago while talking about nothing on t.v. this morning, it came to me, they had a dvd player on 1/2 price for $29.99 and sale ends tonight so must make a trip..I've movies bought for the office here that I've never seen..Paul/Wayne tried to fix my other one, after a whole bunch of pieces remained un accounted for, we trashed it...

Aren't you at work today Judy? it's Friday..or is it work computer you are downloading?

Now what kind of saw did Steve and you get? jig saw/scroll saw/table saw, band saw or chop saw??? which and for what purpose??? would imagine Steve uses a commercial one for work...

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

ROFLOL Betty, dontcha just hate it when something gets put all back together and there sits a couple of missed parts. Lawd have mercy, been there done that.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

You mean all the parts are suppose to go back in? Are you sure?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Told the 2 just to leave it alone, but nope they knew how to 'fix' the problem..right..parts here and there, put it together, don't need this piece..after about 1 hr. in the garbage it went..at least I (probably most women) when doing such things makes a note or a graph of where they took things off...needless to say these new gadgets are really considered throw aways..if you pay $29.99 even if it was worth double..it's still not worth repairing...when I was at walmart saw they had a printer for $44.99 imagine..mine didn't work properly so Darlene gave me a new one , forget the make, but never could get it working, she upgraded when she bought a new computer through mail order or something and they wouldn't discount her printer/fax/photo copier etc. so she gave it to me...but still not working...you'd think with a computer genius he could get it going, but when he visits, never has time...so best might be to buy another...too many bargooons in on one weekend..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes Marion I'm sure...lol...however in repairing my broken cookie jar this morning, there were parts that just didn't fit so had to go to plan 'b'

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Shucks maybe that is why I never get anything repaired right. Think? LOL

Glenview, IL

Oh, my goodness...I so know what you mean about extra parts!
LOL, I love when they say well you really don't need that piece. Huh, head shake then why was it on there in the first place, hmmmm.

Ok, so wasn't going to say but with the jist of todays post, I gotta...ROFL, hand hips and shakinghead even!

So, after sorting all that stuff, took a couple of hours and many handwash's
I said so here ya go, where's the case they go in...DH brings the case in opens it up and then says all of these kind of screws can go in this one space!! I said What?? I just spent two hours sorting these and now you want to dumpem all together? OMG, was i flabergasted, I said if you want them to be all mixed up you put them away. LOL, he saw my point and pulled another empty case so they could stay sorted, geeeeesh! No wonder he can't find stuff, can't tell you how many tool pieces i found, I know he bought cause he could find them, soooo goofy.

Oh We are getting a small table saw. He has giant one but won't let me use it...So the sure way to get a cool little one is to remind him that he shouldn't have to lug the big one for little jobs...LOL, worked like the charm too, so now he won't need the little one all the time, but Now I can use the little one when he isn't home!! eheheh, he even said I am buying US a small table saw!

Work? LOL what work? Oh, I am at the office, got to laugh, they gave me a mailing, all of ten whole labels, that took all 10mins and I was s t r e t c h i n g it have tons of photos on computer, don't want to wait till last minutes to remove them...They got to go anyway to free up space, been a long time plus, some of them are frozen in my old home computer, So on discs they are going!

Well I sure hope you enjoy your afternoon.

Oh was sorry to hear about your broken pieces.
Thanks for the Hug Laura, right on time too. I am much better today.
Hope you are well too.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I like tools also. Hubby has gifted me a tool for Christmas the past couple of years. I have a scroll saw, but not that big. It came from Sears. then I got a router , and a plunge router. I have not figured out how to use the plunge router yet! Just need to get ambitious, and go find something to practice on. I will try to make some reindeer and a sleigh for the front yard this year. I had to through mine away last year. had them for years, so time for new ones.
Linda Kay

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are too funny Judy...lol...and here you thought you had done a great thing for Steve..that will teach you, could have done your nails...

Linda Kay, nothing like gettting new tools..I have a router as well but they came out with this new tool that looks just like a jig saw and it routers, cuts into tile, cuts wood..a multitude of things, much easier for me to operate...one day I'll set up the big router, but not today...

Just got in..very disappointed in many things...

Started out good, dropped into a kitchen boutique in Toronto and bought myself a nice new cannister set and teapot..so back to square one there...the largest of the set had a chip so they are ordering it for me and said it will be in Monday or Tuesday..

Then set out for Barrie...got the the Knit and Sew store and it is out of business, web site still in operation so will have to check out if they've relocated...

Just down the street is Knitters Bazaar..didn't have any patterns that I liked and even the wool that I did like only had 2 balls, so no go...they amalgamated with a quilt store and there was some gorgeous material but, no time to look..meeting the girls at 3:00 so had to run..

Got to Carol's and when her hubby saw me, he turned the open sign to closed..that tells you something..not, he loves teasing me..

Many of the projects were 4 and 5 week sessions i.e. in the aft. on Tues. or aft. on Thurs. so passed on many of them...

Girls that I've always painted with on Thurs. wouldn't let me sign up for the next session, said I had to bring the cabinet insert (bought cabinet about 2 years ago) was all gung ho to do it, that year there were blizzards every Thurs. night so I didn't attend class and they all finished their project soooo while they work on something else I'll be doing my insert...yuk...class starts next Thursday...

Then Carol is having a guest teacher who makes cards using ribbon, card stock, decorative paper and they are just gorgeous..so for $45.00 and 3 hrs. on Oct. 5th I will attend..instructor will teach 3 of the 6 she had on display, then we can be creative ourselves...so that was a must..figure it's something I can bring to work and make all my Christmas cards..looks as thought he inside design has been quilted, quite unique actually so I was please with that session...

She had 4 Christmas projects but all in December..I want to do Christmas projects in Oct./Nov. it's too late in the season, however she had used MDF board and had created raised outer edge to look like holy and berries and the inner frame done like a candy cane..all of us seasoned painters thought it was an excellent idea but didn't like the santa..so I'll go through my books and make one myself..save myself about $150.00...

Also there was a side table done with Christmas poinsettia's in oils, stunning piece..the table is designed so you could take the insert out and do an insert for each season..that table was $160.00...measured it and if it fits I might get it but I have a corner table down here that I did a winter scene and it removes so think I might save myself some money, get her to cut out another insert and paint the design on it..it's another 6 week course so makes for long days - wouldn't get home till 11...

She is also teaching a watercolor quilt..idea is to learn color combination which best enhances the material..it's the 1st Monday evening of the month 7 - 10pm and 2 Sundays - trip to city for purchase of materials so that makes it difficult..Diane is taking it and I was so close to signing up but too much is too much with me teaching, working, doing workshops at same time of year so will let that go till she does another in the spring...

Still not having any wool, I drive out of my way to Elmvale, there is the cutest little knitting shop...WAS there, is no longer...this blanket is just not meant to be..lol...

So I'm going to have a bath, get my jammies on, go visit the dust bunnies under the bed and take out the electronic knitting machine, see if I can work on the needle bed and maybe I'll end up with extra parts..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Had my bath girls, saw that perm box and thought why not? Didn't realize just how short she cut my hair, so I've a curler going one way, while the other is going in opposite direction..now this will be some kind of perm I'll tell you...just maybe I'll be spending the day tomorrow at the hairdressors trying to do a quick fix, a pixie cut might be in order..lol..Lord hates a coward, we'll see the results..so have my trusty 'how to put the knitting machine together' manual, looking at the pretty pictures and have the timer on...

If it doesn't work out I'll blame you Judy, have that nice little angel timer set for 20 minutes...hope she rings, you know me, get caught up in other things and forget...

What is the worse that can happen, oh I know, I'll be able to have a 'worse' to post tonight..lol..no pictures..ahhhh might be a sad state of affairs...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure if you can see the direction the rollers are going in but I'd ask that you say a little prayer....

Thanks Betty,
Won't it be fun to finally meet.

Hope your hair turns out ok..will stay tuned for the big reveal..

Glenview, IL

LOL Betty,
You that trusty lil angel won't let you down...
I sure hope the curls do well for you!

Linda, so nice you have some of your own tools. What a fun project for you to make. I like those reindeer for the front lawn.

Went to a retirement party for a co-worker what a bummer, This woman has been with the company longer than I have. And there were only about 20 people. Yow that is really sad, she was an awsom part of the company and everyone who would have filled the entire room are gone...LOL, I had to laugh and say, well 0when i retire, there will be two left! We just laughed. And i am sure she will have a bash 1outside of the company with all her pals.

.k9-mkg-...LOL birdie came to say hello, keeps walking over the keyboard. Better go love her up! Back in a bit to see how your perm came out.

Glenview, IL

Oh Carol,
How pretty! I like the new bird bath too.

Good for you on the 12 day mark!!!
Visit only a week away, how exciting for you both.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I've got curls/curls and more curls, at least in some spots..lol...

Carol isn't it wonderful the money you've been spending can now buy you treats..that's how I feel, don't smoke, don't drink, don't well we won't go there...

Giving myself a few minutes, lordy that stuff burns the eyes, of course when someone else gives you a perm you can close them, not when it's you doing it though...yuk they are sore... will go put water on them..when done, guess I'll blow dry and set my hair and see what I've come up with..

I'll post one more photo..here's the mess in the washroom and wouldn't you know that's not good enough for me, got to multi task, going through Christmas pattern books...

Judy that is sad, people just don't go out of their way (not all but some) to show respect for someone who has given so much...glad you were there for her!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Glenview, IL

LOL, Betty
something missing from the bathroom!!

you are so cute...multitasking. But I thought you were doing some knitting thing while perming.

Soo glad your curly top came out.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doesn't look half bad Judy, one thing leads to another, now I have to do a load of wash, everything including jammies smells perm...

Yes, knitting machine is out, all parts sitting on the table..I've looked high and low for the frame, no can find, must have got lost in the quick shuffle..but I can put it together and use it..it has clamps for a table..keep looking at my other machine on the stand, who knows maybe I only ever had one frame??? will check out how much for the one for this machine...

I use to drive Jeff crazy, it was in his room and it knits on its own, the problem is as it goes over the needle bed, it goes, click/click/click and when you are a teen wanting to sleep in, that's the last thing you want to hear for 3 or 4 hrs.

So, have my manuals, will read a bit tonight and put it together tomorrow...then I'm set to do blankets while I'm at work...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Carol, meant to say I love the birdbath..aren't there great deals at this time of year..guess everyone tries to get rid of merchandise as not to have to store it...

Judy if you look at the plastic bin full of parts at far right end you'll see that all have a job, not sure what it is, that part of the manual I can't find..maybe I'll have parts left over...lol

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good evening all! Just popped in to say Hi! I'll catch up on all ya'lls chat in the morning.
night/night

Glenview, IL

Hi Crissy...
Good night to you and all.

LOL, everyone starting to trickle in here so I am off...

See you all on the morrow!

...Oh P.S. Bev I always enjoy your flowers the collage was beautiful!

Sleep tight.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Crissy that is some coincidence about your weight and measurements at birth being the same as dgd.

Laura what is your status? I thought your dd lost the baby but later thought I misunderstood. Did your dd have the baby, they were due close together I thought?

I will try to plant my wildflower seeds early too, since last year I planted them at this time when it was cooler, not like this miserable weather.

B they don't tell you garbage if the tests are negative so it is probably good except the lack of answers.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone, wow it's a dull day out there, weather is heaving so will plan indoor activities..and those I've plenty of...just have to decide which...of course the knitting machine is sitting waiting to be put together, maybe going through all my manuals I'll find the correct one the the electronic carriage..all that's missing..

Might be a good day to clean the craft room, I keep taking out books for ideas and then just put them in, messing up my system so as you can see there's plenty for me to do..

Victoria Harbour, ON

ooops pressed the wrong key...

Dawn, how's that baby of yours, we need to see photo's..are you adjusting to being grandma, am sure you are pleased as punch..trying to get this knitting machine operational so I can make little blankets with name/date of birth and lbs. at birth..so please both you and Laura could you send me these...now that's if I get rolling with the needles...

Crissy, take a while to get back into a routine once you've been away...was your vacation all you wanted it to be?

Carol is that beautiful nursery and garden art store near where you live??? could we make a quick visit to it??

Well, better get mobile, did 2 (1/2 loads) of laundry...all caught up, put away, going to wash the upstairs floors, took spaghetti sauce container out of the freezer for my eats tonight.."M" on the canadian forum posted a yummy pie recipe so going out this a.m. to get the ingredients and then I'm free as a bird to do what comes my way...

What are you all up to today?

Wonder how long Cathy will take to break this set??? have my eye on another just incase..lol..will pick up the larger container on Mon. or Tues.
