Actually Betty, we have just had the visit from Fay with all the rain and winds. I have a lot that has many, many trees. It was only cleared to build the house and pretty much left in a natural state--which I love. However, all the rain and winds brought down tons (so it seems) of dead debris, 5 dead trees and the top of a water oak which went through the top of a cypress covered swing set I had. More debris came down while in Canada and it is just accumulated.

A few winds from Gustav and rain but nothing to much. Just that on top of an already wet situation is yucky to say the least!!

Nope Hanna shouldn't bother us --worried for Jaye thought. Ike and Josephine we don't know about yet. Just watch and hoping!!!!

Trying to find something really special for your Friendship garden from Florida. Hurricane maybe? LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Hope your all doing well, and rested after your trips.
Marion, I hope you have a handsome hunk to help clear your trees?
Take care.

lol Marion, some days my gardens do look like hurricanes have landed...not really...such a worry all these storms...

It's a sunshine day here - in high 80's, would have been the perfect week to book vacation but have to save mine for Florida right?

Didn't get home till almost 8 last night with getting haircut and shoping, tonight I teach so will not be able to enjoy the outdoors..

While nice weather here I am at work going through my supplier links to get both ideas AND materials..must be one season ahead, old habits die hard..

There are so many interesting fall craft shows that will soon be here, I'm getting antsi...this Friday registering for workshops should get rid of more $$$$....

Guess we'll all be settling in shortly with different interests...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Craft shows--I am on my way again. Fall is big with nursery festival here--or Gainesville. Planning to take Deborah down to one in October and that should be loads of fun.

Soon settling in time for sure. My 3 yo GD has informed me I didn't make her a blanket. Oops!! Made one for the oldest when she was born and she has it out--youngest catches on quick.

Understand about the haircut. If I dont get an appointment soon I will be "pigtailing" my bangs. Not a pretty sight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Exactly the way I felt, last night this pretty young thing with brown and red hair, earings on the tongue (wow) cut my hair..said did I want to get funky, said 'hell yes' just not quite as 'funky' as you...so she did a razor cut on my hair, different layers and left the top a little longer so I can perm...didn't tell her I would perm my own on the weekend..lol..maybe then I'l be really 'funky'..never know the outcome when you do it yourself

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Love it!!! Can totally understand as some of the places here are funky with the university trade.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Don't want the 'grandmother' look but don't want to look as though I belong on another planet either...how other than DG are you filling your days with being housebound..are you nearby stores that you can pick up supplies?

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty Your friendship garden is so charming.
Love what you have done. It has all come together just as you planned.

Marion..I am sorry to hear of your brother's passing. Stay safe there..

Hi Tater..I sure could use a handsome hunk to help around here..but just to do some chores....then he can go home.. LOL

I have been out doing a bit of watering and trimming of the low hanging apple tree branches and some of the shrubs out back Just a lovely day out there. Having a bit of lunch here at the computer..I know..not a good habit..LOL

I took a few photos..I'll post some later.

Betty Friday the 12th would be great for you to visit. I will look forward to meeting you.

Gita..great points made about healthy eating..so that is your secret for staying so youthful and vigorous.

I have some errands to do..
talk later.
Waving to all,

Byeeeeeeeee

Cheers,
Carol

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Betty I was just looking at the side of your building in your friendship garden. Has anyone mentioned collecting old license plates from the various DGer's states?

Gita, I'm sending your Latvia lilies to you next week. The leaves are starting to turn brown.

Marion, "pigtailing" your bangs. ROFLOL I heard the Alfalfa look was in. LOL

Well, I've been doing what Carol's been doing. Now I'm ready to wash up, eat and take a nap.
Talk to ya'll later.
Deborah

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh no we aren't house bound at all. In the 90's today and humid. Lots of 'skeeters due to the rains but can go in and out as we please. Only when it is pouring or hard winds do we stay inside.

I am just dealing with the cleanup mess from Fay otherwise I am doing fine.

Thanks Starzz, thought of you nice ladies while I was there but time was limited. Oh I do hope to come back soon for a longer visit.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Neat idea Deborah, how are you feeling today..hope you are not being to hard on yourself...Alfalfa-now there is a character I do remembers..we're telling our age aren't we...watch the younger ones pipe up and ask who Alfalfa is??? lol

Carol, already told Suzanne that a week this Friday I'd drive myself in as I was going to visit with you for part of the afternoon...got it on my trusted calendar..

Victoria Harbour, ON

What is Midway?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ahhh closest town to you right, dah...Marion it's 1,297 miles....now you'll have to tell me what your favorite flower is..need to know...lol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I am one of those crazy nuts that loves impatiens and hydrangeas. Either one. Looking for a keychain to represent Florida.

Victoria Harbour, ON

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Perfect. Enjoy your lunch.

Glenview, IL

Hi Everyone...
hahaha, I know who Alfalfa is!! he was always one of my favorites.
I am sitting here giggling up a storm on your rendition of hairdo, lol I simply call mine a mop. Yikes...I just told on myself in age too, lol, whats a number got to do with it!

OK starving to death here going to lunch, just wanted to say hi!!

Hope you all are doing well. ho, hum back to nothing at work, so brought another book!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Jusy, age is just some numbers thrown together. Why worry, I bet you have you by a few years for sure.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Deborah,

I am so excited to be getting the "Latvia Lilies"!!!!! How many bulbs will you be sending?

I can't really plant them yet--as where they will go, has lots of other things growing there. When it comes time to pull things up, I will have more space.

PLEASE tell me what I can send you in return???? Do you have any "Naked lady" (aka resurrection Lilies----aka Magic Lilies)? I could send you a few bulbs of them.....
Do you know about these? They send up foliage in the Spring--lots of it--and it just, kind of, lays around. Then it all dies back.
Then in August, these bulbs send up "naked" stems topped with these pink, fragrant blooms.

Aren't they beautiful Gita..it just goes on and on with types of lily's doesn't it...when I go to Meaford on Oct. 4th there are 3 of the largest nurseries there so will be on the lookout for lily's for sure..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gita, you'd be proud of me, yes you would...

Said to Suzanne and Wayne that I'd treat them to an ice-cream cone from caf. downstairs..Wayne said 'no thanks' and Suzanne said 'thanks but I have an apple' soooo turned around, got my apple out of my bag and that's what I'm eating...something healthy...but yuk..wouldn't an ice-cream on one of our nicest days be a treat? ok ok apple it is..

Glenview, IL

OMG Betty, you are tooo Cute!!
Enjoy the crunch!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, you trying to pass your day as am I...wow it's been a long one, even got tempted to take out the petit point I have of the Kyle and Noah that I started a few years ago, have it under neath the credenza..now that's bored..how's your book going?

Glenview, IL

LOL, I guess you caught on to me Betty.
Yep trying to pass the day...yuk,yuk and yuk.

Well decided to write a letter instead of reading...um that way I look busy.
sneaking in the computer in between.

What is the petit point???

Victoria Harbour, ON

cross stitch but in miniature, bought a program than you can convert a photo into cross stitch or petit point...took a photo of Noah and Kyle and started it, bought all the embroidery thread and there it sits, would venture to say when I die their wives can finish it for me...it was for Greg/Mel as I had painted a portrait of Caleb and Braedon and wanted to do Greg's kids just a bit differently, might go back and do the oil painting of them..lol..

Victoria Harbour, ON

started it but that's about it, just follow the graph...sounds easy enough..got maybe a little of Kyle's hair done...don't you find when you get really bored there seems to be nothing to get you going at, you just sit and think about being bored..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Glenview, IL

LOL, that look just like something...I'd leave for their wives to finish!!
holy moly, looks very tedious...something like that i would just look at forever and try to decide how to proceed, then maybe just keep dreaming about how it's going to look "when" i get done.

Yep, when i am this bored, all i can think is man, what i can be doing elsewhere. I am sick of solitare, and I love solitare. LOL, i can only write so many letters...

ho hum de dummmm!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Gita, I'm sending you all three of the Latvia lilies. They won't take up much room and can be planted together. I have them really closer than recommended but they did just fine. These are gifts from me to you, nothing in trade but our new friendship. Okey dokey?

Glenview, IL

Awww, that is so Sweet.
Gita, I just know you'll enjoy a bit of home.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Best of my day...

Deborah, what a surprise when I went to the post office tonight on my way home...the card and kind words brought tears to my eyes, sometimes I think I'd just gabbing for the sake of gabbing and must be driving you all nuts at times, and then I get such a card and I'm overwhelmed..thanks from the bottom of my heart...

Not the best...
Just prior to leaving the office we got a call that Roger's sister, eldest of the girls had a bad car accident..now Marguerite would be 61..she's been living at her moms in order to look after her mom since Rogers' dad died 2 years ago..anyway she's been having dizzy spells (not good) think I mentioned it last week that she has high blood pressure, lost mega weight and I think her meds should have been adjusted, anyway didn't she want to go to get weighed at her weight loss group, felt good today although she'd been in bed most of the weekend and SHE RAN A RED LIGHT....not good, her fault totally, hit another car, thank God that woman is not badly hurt but Marg is not doing well, what also happened is her air bags did not deploy and she took the brunt of the accident..no window left, thank goodness she had her safety belt on but they've done mega testing, have sent the test to Barrie to review and will decide what must be done..I came home and Suzanne has left for hospital so am waiting on a call to let me know how she's doing...so please say a little prayer...the sun did rise and shine on Marguerite when Roger was alive...sad..but you know when you are dizzy from time to time, not the greatest idea to take a vehicle on the road, was late afternoon, imagine had there been school children around..apparently police say they have taken her licence away until Dr.'s give her clean bill of health, guess she told them she had been dizzy these past few weeks...so all one can do is wait..

What did I learn today....when you start of your day and think it's just another day, you can be wrong! Good things can happen, such as the note I received from Deborah and people you love can come close to leaving this earth so best take time to smell the roses, look after yourself and always remember that it takes but a few minutes to make ones day! Have you made someone's day today..know Deborah and many of you have...thanks for your kindness...
Better eat before my painting girls get here...

Hi everyone. Just checking in. Good luck for everyone who is trying to quit smoking or diet. I never smoked, but from what I hear, its not easy to stop. Just hand in there!
As for dieting, I've done it so often, it feels like I should be a professional! :-)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Deb,

Thank you so much! You are too sweet!

If I ever have something you want--be glad to share it with you.

Okey-Dokey......

Gita

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Cathy, I'm a professional rubberband I've dieted so much

Betty, you inspire hundreds of DGers with your energy, kindness and talent who send you their love. My mail is just faster.

(Cathy), MO

LOL Deb. And I agree 100% with that Betty!!!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi girls, I AM A GRANDMA NOW! I watched my first grandbaby come into the world on Saturday night at 9:27pm and she was 7 lb 10 oz and 20 3/4 in long. she is so cute and she is healthy. When I have pictures I will post them. I have movies only so far until someone uploads the pix. Alysha was a brave and quiet birther, which is unlike my little drama queen. I cried and she is fine too.

I see they are home and the computer is in their room. Love ya all.
Dawn

(Cathy), MO

Congradulations Dawn! Glad everyone is ok

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Congratulations, on the newest little DG'er!!!
Linda Kay

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Congratulations Dawn, I never attended a birthing of any of my grandsons, think it's different when you have daughters, it must have been something, so full of emotion that you cannot even describe...you are so very lucky..she's a good weight isn't she? Where is mom and DGD staying, still at ex???

Can't wait to see photo's...how's the job going Dawn, still hard to get into the swing of things..

Just so exciting...

Girls just left, long day for me...Suzanne called about 20 minutes ago, she was just leaving the hospital..Marguerite is in a lot of pain, they do think it might have been her heart..watching her closely and they are waiting for the test results that were forwarded to Barrie hospital..police did tell her though that if it proves to be the heart which caused her to lose control and go through the light, then the charges will be dropped...however, he did tell her she'll have a case with car manufacturer because of non working air bags..car is a write off...thank you all for the prayers, they are appreciated...better find me a florist tomorrow, Lee-Ann - niece that I work with is being operated on at 11:00 am - growth in her throat...then of course Marguerite and then Suzanne's daughter is ready to have her child so might as well make family hospital visit, maybe they'll be in same room..lol...

My cel telephone hasn't been working that well of late, Jeff asked if I'd have my cel with me at the ex last Thursday, said nope, doesn't work, he called tonight and said he bought me one with all the bells and whistles..which I don't need, but nice of him to think of dear old 'mom'....

Well I'm more than tired...good Lord willing, we'll talk tomorrow..

night/night
