Salvia leucantha 'Midnight' - it's pretty but I think I actually prefer the white/purple contrast of the species.
blooming in september
Tom- gorgeous photos as usual.
The Hedychiums are spectacular this year in the gardens at Plant Delights. I wish I could grow them that well.
I love the Fall blooming salvias too. How long have you had that S. mexicana? I tried to grow those last year but lost both varieties to the drought.
Love the butterflies:)
This is really a huge group of Zinnia flowers that don't have their stems very close for the camera. They have bloomed for a long time and look crisp and nice. I bought the seeds at Johnny's and started them in the spring. They are Benary Giants (orange) and they have not disappointed me in their display. In an outside circle with those plantings, I planted Lantana and the two look nice together. (The Lantana is not showing in this photo for some reason!)

TomH: Is the Senna a sun lover? It looks like your location is in full sun and I would guess that it is. It's lovely and I want one.
Sweetbay: The Georgia aster is very pretty and I like asters rather than mums. Does it seed and could I get some next year?
Ardesia: That blue ginger is so gorgeous. Where did you get it?
Plant envy is what I have, y'all.
Sweetbay, I do love the color of the Georgia asters!
Shari - I have had the Salvia mexicana for 6 or 7 years now - I got it from Yucca Do (they have not offered it in a while though). It's planted next to the house in full sun. Tony Avent told me hardiness for S. mexicana is iffy below about 10F - I guess where mine is located is protected from extreme cold.
Hemophobic - the Senna corymbosa is in full sun (I don't think it would do well in shade). It's still in full bloom - here's a picture from earlier this week.
Thanks, Tom. I suspected it was a sunlover, but I'll try to find a spot for it in my garden.
my passi looks dead because of thetupid gulf fritts
Deb I love the color of the Georgia asters too! Such a bright purple.
Hemophobic, yes, it does set seed. I'll collect some for you.
Tom your Senna corymbosa is something else. It's absolutely covered.
Shari I like the combination of Kniphofia and Salvia.
The shrub is Abelia.
Oh! Thanks, Sweetbay. I thought it would be some native plant, based on where it is, at the edge of the woods, but perhaps it's a planted one from when the street was "new". I'm tempted to go rescue it from its obscurity. ;->
Deb
Sweetbay: Thank you very much. Hope I'll have something next year to give you in return. Don't have anything in my swap list yet, as I just started tuning into DG several months ago, but I'm solidly hooked.
Deb the vine is Climbing Boneset. It grows all over my place too; I just went out and looked at the leaves this morning and it's a match with your plant.
Deb and bordersandjacks -- lovely gingers.
Thanks, Sweetbay! Great name btw, "Boneset".
Deb
And she says, "Heh, heh, heh....You thought you could get rid of me that easily???"
:)
That's kind of creepy looking. Good time of year for it.
Bordersandjacks I love that plant!
It looks very Halloween.
Problem or not, LOL, that brom is way too cool.
I saw that one on Tropiflora's list recently and was really tempted; now I am sorry I didn't follow up on my instincts. Like I need another plant right??????
its a crypanthus (sp?). aka earth star. its a terrestrial brom. i have a pup of one and it is not doing well at all. if anyone wants it, then come and pick it up. it realy is pitiful
