great pictures, Argentine Skies just started blooming here, but it was a small plant in spring
gloxinia 'evita' Tom shared with me
blooming in september
tom, i have that clerodendrum, and its blooming now, but i have always known it as C. ugandense
Tom I envy you your Mexican Bush Sage. It's beautiful. I had several until the wet winter of 06/07. I keep forgetting to get a replacement until it's too late!
Trent, the plant taxometrists just do this to drive us crazy. LOL
"This is a plant variously known scientifically as Clerodendrum myricoides 'Ugandense', Clerodendrum ugandense and Rotheca myricoides. The currently accepted name according to the Royal Horticultural Society Plant Finder (which we use at UBC) is the first. Commonly, it is known as the blue glory bower (A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants), blue-flowered tinderwood, or my favourite, blue cat's whiskers."

It is beautiful by any name. I'd be willing to find a spot in the garage for one of those.
I just planted S. gaurantica 'Argentine Skies'. It's budded so I hope to see blooms this year.

Aaaaaa, ya what she said.
LOL. So anyone who makes fun of my latin read that over.
ardesia - thanks for answering about the Clerodendrum myricoides. Until recently I was calling it Clerodendrum ugandense - I only found out about the new name a few months ago. I wish they would stop renaming plants - it's hard enough to learn the name the first time!
Unlike last fall when it was so dry, it looks like the hedychiums may put on a decent show this year. Here is one that just started blooming today - I have no idea which one it is since the tag is long gone.
hmm well i learned something new. lets see if i remember the new name
Tom: I have Moy Giant. Only had one bloom last year, but it's doing alot better this year. I have a couple of other hedychium that I planted 2 years back, and just bloomed for the first time. Amazing what a little rain can do. Oh! I got my Oxbloods from PDN day before yesterday. They're already blooming! very cool.
Ya could just call that Clerodendrum gorgeous. :)
Tropicanna: What do you do with the thunbergia in the winter?
Deb
Oh, Alamanda's first blossom (thanks, Jim).
Thanks for the basjoo photo Trent. I think I'm gonna leave most of mine in the ground after all - maybe wait and move them next spring. Looks like they'll bounce back just fine.
i thought you'd like it. they really grow well. when i took some pups off to keep a more neat look and keep the clump from getting too out of control, i thre them over the fence, and now some bananas are growing wild in the woods! they seem to not have any problems so far
Ardesia, I like that blue ginger, too.
Keonikale: I think that Kahili is pretty special. My White B'fly ginger just began blooming for the first time. Is it just me, or does it smell alot like gardenias?
Ardesia: oooh! Blue Gingger. Very cool.
Great to see the roses, too!
I have this one blooming. No idea its name. Came with the yard.
Deb
it reminds me of gardenias too
Thanks Deb. And I agree, the Butterfly Ginger does smell like our Dwarf Gardenias - another of my favorites in the yard. Just wish they would bloom all season, that'd be nice.
Actually I'm not far from one of my camellias starting to bloom. Maybe 3 weeks. I may have done it this year, think I have something in bloom almost all year round. Now if I can just get it arranged some how.
