Tom I envy you your Mexican Bush Sage. It's beautiful. I had several until the wet winter of 06/07. I keep forgetting to get a replacement until it's too late!

Trent, the plant taxometrists just do this to drive us crazy. LOL

"This is a plant variously known scientifically as Clerodendrum myricoides 'Ugandense', Clerodendrum ugandense and Rotheca myricoides. The currently accepted name according to the Royal Horticultural Society Plant Finder (which we use at UBC) is the first. Commonly, it is known as the blue glory bower (A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants), blue-flowered tinderwood, or my favourite, blue cat's whiskers."

It is beautiful by any name. I'd be willing to find a spot in the garage for one of those.

I just planted S. gaurantica 'Argentine Skies'. It's budded so I hope to see blooms this year.

Aaaaaa, ya what she said.

LOL. So anyone who makes fun of my latin read that over.

ardesia - thanks for answering about the Clerodendrum myricoides. Until recently I was calling it Clerodendrum ugandense - I only found out about the new name a few months ago. I wish they would stop renaming plants - it's hard enough to learn the name the first time!

Unlike last fall when it was so dry, it looks like the hedychiums may put on a decent show this year. Here is one that just started blooming today - I have no idea which one it is since the tag is long gone.

hmm well i learned something new. lets see if i remember the new name

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Tom: I have Moy Giant. Only had one bloom last year, but it's doing alot better this year. I have a couple of other hedychium that I planted 2 years back, and just bloomed for the first time. Amazing what a little rain can do. Oh! I got my Oxbloods from PDN day before yesterday. They're already blooming! very cool.

Ya could just call that Clerodendrum gorgeous. :)

Tropicanna: What do you do with the thunbergia in the winter?
Deb

Oh, Alamanda's first blossom (thanks, Jim).

Nothing special, but it was my first Kahili Ginger bloom - so I was excited. Hoping for a Beehive or Torch Ginger bloom next year.

Butterfly Ginger too - this is probably the best smelling plant I own, hands down. Makes the whole yard fragrant at night.

Keonikale I have that white ginger too and love it -- it's so fragrant.

This rose has a wonderful fragrance too: Clotilde Soupert

Thanks for the basjoo photo Trent. I think I'm gonna leave most of mine in the ground after all - maybe wait and move them next spring. Looks like they'll bounce back just fine.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

i thought you'd like it. they really grow well. when i took some pups off to keep a more neat look and keep the clump from getting too out of control, i thre them over the fence, and now some bananas are growing wild in the woods! they seem to not have any problems so far

Keonikale: I think that Kahili is pretty special. My White B'fly ginger just began blooming for the first time. Is it just me, or does it smell alot like gardenias?
Ardesia: oooh! Blue Gingger. Very cool.

Great to see the roses, too!
I have this one blooming. No idea its name. Came with the yard.

it reminds me of gardenias too

Thanks Deb. And I agree, the Butterfly Ginger does smell like our Dwarf Gardenias - another of my favorites in the yard. Just wish they would bloom all season, that'd be nice.

The Azalea and Bidens make a great color combo for Fall.

Mealy Cup Sage is coming back from its summer rest. This clump has been perennial for several years for me. I They were bought as part of a six pack of annuals.

Actually I'm not far from one of my camellias starting to bloom. Maybe 3 weeks. I may have done it this year, think I have something in bloom almost all year round. Now if I can just get it arranged some how.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

chamthy - I like the yucca - just wish I had room for one.
sweetbay103 - that is a nice color contrast with the azalea and bidens!

Here is the peachy hedychium again - color shows better in full sun.

Buddleia 'Bicolor' - it never looks like it does in the catalogs. The "bicolor" effect is variable ... sometimes it's almost all pink.

Salvia mexicana 'Lollie Jackson' - just starting to bloom.
