This is Anemone Honorine Jobert, starting to bloom.
Garden Photos - Part 34
nice shot booj
venu, how big are the blooms on that clematis? It looks like an unidentified one I have with small blooms.
I like that pink. Weeze, have you received your FW catalog yet?
Nice pictures, everyone.
RC, I love your landscape shot. Very beautiful!
Grandpapa, I especially like your backlit shot and the soft shot of the roses.
venu209, I love your Agastache rupestris. Wonder if it would do well here in zone 6a.
Boojum, I love those anemones. That's a great close-up.
Didn't get any pics taken today. I mowed the front lawn and did some weeding. Won't have a chance to do anymore yard work now till Monday, as my schedule is very full. I'm going to Hampton Beach, NH on Saturday with my Dad and some friends for the day. Fri. and Sun. i work all day, and Monday morning I will probably go horseback riding at a friend's.
Karen
Venu: I can start a cutting of my Epi Oxy QOTN for you, if you like.
WNY, I would definitely be interested.
Deb, That BF looks so at home in your blooms. Nice pic!
My neighbor has a Kousa tree.
Those dang cherries are all over my yard.
UGH!
Thanks all for the picture comments! It was just the right place at the right time (smokey skies at sunset always = pretty colors). Since it was raining/cloudy most of the morning I was finally able to take many pictures, at around sunset, in the hopes that a few would turn out.
Velnita... most of those Hills And Mountains in the picture are 5000' or higher, so.... you choose. I gaurantee you one thing, if you're ever hiking them, it at least feels like a mountain! I'd love the vote!
Bill if you're ever out this way.... this would be only a medium day hike for you! Or a 15 mi. cross country skii trip in the winter!
Grampapa, I'm in love with that green envy Echinacea!
Victor, count on you to make water from a house look intriguing.
Wny...how often do you repot your Epiphyllum and what kind of soil? someone gave me one several years ago, and I read that it like to be a little pot bound, but mine really looks like it should be transplanted.
JoAnn, just for you, here is another from the group of pics. this one was just taken a minute or two later and could've actually connected, as a panorama, to the left side of the other picture.
Oh Oh Oh THE LAST ONE.
and I for got I wanted fall anemones.Hope my neighbor comes thru. She said she would dig plants for me this week and there are about six pots sitting beyond the trees in her driveway.
It's so hard to be petient for a known present, I noticed them when I saw the red monarda blossom.
pant!pant!pant!
hahaha. It sounds as if it may be just a matter of hours before they are yours! With six pots of them, you have some work! Just in case you wander this way, those two peaks are part of the "three sisters" mountains (one not in view).
Great video GE - did you take it?
Nawww someone sent it to me.
Almost posted it on Morrigans thread but they are dealing w/ a serious matter there.
Now that I know how to copy and paste those videos I'll pass on "only the good ones" as I get them.
Some arent worth the time.
RedChic: Simply stunning sunsets! The red on those trees in that last one! Looks like they sit on the doorsteps of .... um ..... Heck!
Also, I believe that epis love to be rootbound. Though not sure if I was told to plant epis in clay pots (so they don't tip over, and also will break the pot when ready to be replanted) or orchids, or both. But, I plant most things in clay, so that slight detail has escaped me.
I am no expert, but I think re-potting them also disturbs their bloom cycle.
If Anyone (in addition to Venu) would like a cutting off my Oxypetalums, just let me know whether you want a leaf to root on your own, or would prefer me to start the rooting and send the plant on when warm in the spring.
I also have Epiphyllum hookeri (strictum) I can make cuttings from. (not sure if hookeri and strictum are synonyms or if strictum is, in fact, a cultivar. I have received cuttings under both names from nurseries. I suspect they are the same.) Trade preferred, but not required. My other 15 epis are various colors, but only a year or so old cuttings.
As per my potting mix, I use an EXCELLENT soilless mix I get from the local greenhouse. I believe it is their version of the standard Cornell Mix. It is mostly finely screened peat, with perlite, vermiculite, sand and minute pebbles added for drainage. I believe they also lime, etc. it with trace elements.
I use this potting soil for EVERYthing in the greenhouse!! from cactus to colocasia. About $9.00 a bushel.
Hey willi I cant find oxypetalums. nither on Google or plant scout.
My anemone haven't opened yet. Love seeing Victor's and Boojum. They are a fall favorite. Here are a few others that I like very much during this waning time for the garden. First is a white hardy hibiscus. Not sure which one as it doesn't match what is listed in my journal. It certainly isn't the pink one I ordered called "plum crazy". But I love it.
I don't even know what a Oxypetalums are. I remember the name, but must be having a "senior moment". Good things we have "plant files" Patti
Epiphyllum Oxypetalum

My E. hookeri (or strictum, I suspect they are the same)

Oh do I feel dumb. I grow lots of Epiphyllum.
Here is another that is just coming into it's own. I started a mess of zinnia 's from seed from the profusions series. I thought they were going to be short. This one is nearly 3 feet. Not planted in the right spot for that size. grrrrrrr. But I love it cause I grew it. The other ones I grew have done well too, especially a white one called "polar bear" and "zowie yellow". Patti
willib offered cuttings from his oxypetalums(dont think he spelled it right) I cant find in on google or plant files.
DUUUNH I found it
WNYwillieB, drop dead gorgeous!
Some Phlox from a spring coop backed with a clump of Aster x frikartii "Wonder of Staffa" that has done well since I replanted them a couple of years ago after seeing how beautiful the asters looked in Boojums garden. I had some years ago but must have weeded them out as I think they are pretty indestructible. I need to try some others too. Any suggestions for next year? Patti
Thanks! Patti ..... As is everything you post!
GE: I think my problem is I pluralize with an "s." I think the plural of oxypetalum is oxypetalum. Either way, you found it! Whew!
That's sharp, Patti!
WNYwillieB, No, it is a miracle! I love orchids, and I can buy them and keep them alive for years, but just no repeat blooming. So I should just buy them and enjoy them while they bloom and then give them back to the grower or to someone like Boojum who grows them beautifully.
I have repeats on a few cymbidiums every few years. Some of them we have had for more than 20 years and only had blooms on them in less then half of the years. Sad. I just don't have the patience, knowledge and attentiveness that it takes to grow them.
But loving this one. Oh, our success for it is that I left it in the living rm on the north side of our house since Dec and watered it sporadically. Total benign neglect has rewarded us. So this is really a fluke.
Last of the lilies. Very sad event. Patti
love the cosmo and friend shot!!
