Oh yes you can sell. It is not just trading. Many people come to sell in the fall and they have another in the spring and many buy for the summer then.
Just got to thinking tf. When I lived in Stephenville, TX, we never had to do anything special when taking the horses back and forth. Just load and go.
We always went down to Joplin Mo, caught I44 and then 69 highway in Dallas/Fort Worth.
Sheila
Missouri ChickenStock at Jacob's Cave.
I will go from shawnee to stillwater and catch I44 there. I think.
Miss T I am not sure yet which birds I am bringing but for sure will get you the one you want, maybe you can come by here on your way back spend the night and take what you want. I am sure I will have a few silkie roos. Alot of the top hats.
Btw, thanks for the offer Fran. I really don't see any way to shelve everything i have going here and go swap chickens. No wonder I'm planning vicariously.
Josh, contact Dusty and Taynors -y'all can pick up Fran somewhere near Effingham, IL (think there's a Cracker Barrel there to meet at too- love them family trips) edited to add -You're familiar with Cracker Barrel, right, talk about intro to American Culture?!
TF - the hwy54 thingy? Boy does that ever look nice. If Luvs met you on that one though it'd mean Haverhill?

I need open Hiway, do not want to go slower than 70. My foot and my truck just dont know how to do less than 70 on open roads. And for me going thru Kansas is out of the way. Miss T will be going thru the panhandle of Oklahoma and cut over in Kansas.
I have to get busy and build a crate for the birds, i might just get a large dog crate for that. I would have to probably stop every so often to give them some water. Or I could get one of them rabbit waters.
Know what you mean about highway. That's why I travel so few back roads now. The 75mph on 44 is too good to resist.
yeppers, that is right its a turnpike so the speed limit is higher.
hmm, 44? i will look. my van runs better at 75...
well, out of hte 700 mile trip going that route, 44 is only 324...
may not be 700 miles, put in Jefferson City. i was planning on 54 across Kansas to have an "open road", but it claims it takes me 2 1/2 hours more! for less miles!
can someone give me a closer town to Jacobs Cave, Yahoo can't find it...

well then you would do as Grow said get to I-40 then take I-44 right there at OKC. You would not even need to get on I-35 and that is all the better if you dont need to take I-35 that is a mess in OKC.
now it had me going 40 to 44 to MO 5... i changed the city to camdenton [camden county!] and now it's only 638 miles 9.5 hours!
you doing yahoo or map quest?
yahoo...
yea that is what i use also. what day were you thinking of going?
hmmm, it dpends on who all is coming with me in the way of animals children and husband. wish i had a trailer hitch on my van, and a trailer... i'd like to either go early or stay late...
depends on if i have to take mom to the airport when I will go. If I dont then I will go thursday, mom flys to Europe on Friday the 3rd. And she flys out early friday so I could hit I-44 from the airport at like 8ish.
i am goingto look for a nice place to stop along the way, somewhere past OKC. just for the mornign. i could leave after midnight, then stop there and wait for you...
Ok sounds like a plan. There is a Mcdonalds on I-44 just past OKC. There is alot of truck stops thru there. I am trying to remember if we go to Big Ben truck stop. That is right before crossing into MO
io ahve stopped at that mcdonalds before. with all the chicks [and perhaps a goat] i was thinking further out, like a nice park for hte kids to stretch their legs and have some breakfast...
will you bring breakfast with you buy it along the way, there is alot of rest stops all thru there. Ok I just gotta ask, you are NOT going to pack kids and a GOAT inside the van are you.
as longas i still have room for chickens! the goat would sleep all morning, like the kiddos... FRAN WANTS A GOAT!
imight even cook breakfast and insulate it... eggs, peppered bacon, omemade biscuits, homegrown peaches with maple syrup, maybe even some hand held pancakes...
Also something to think about, can we get Shelia to get us a camping spot there to hold all of us. I so dont want to be by my self. I wish my 5th wheel or the motor home was in good traveling condition. But I guess i will just get me an easy pop up tent.
dang I sure WILL meet up with ya then, that sounds good.
that is going to be to funny seeing a goat in the van. Beverly hillbillies here we come.
Um, is anyone going to be there on Sat? Do they have kids or just goats? I only have a small SUV. Could get there Fri. evening. Oh no! I'm not really thinking of doing this am I? Could I fit a kid in a crate?
Yep we are, Yep I bet there will be kids, Yep you are going to be there, Yep you can fit a kid in a crate. Cant wait to meet ya there. I plan on being there until sunday morning.
Do they have a website? I wonder if they have pygmy goat kids. Do you think they will have registered kids? Possibly a Indian Runner drake.
hmmmmmmm, well this is a swap meet type thing. And Shelia would be more to know what they have had before. I do know I will be getting some cages off of them I will think it out and put my special order in before time to go. I wonder if Tamera could wrangle one up for you or I could check here. Or Shelia could there. Possibilities are unlimited. Oh I so need Shelia's telly number she NEEDS to get on here.
LOL, if you saw these crates we just picked up... you could fit a bedroom in them... One is bigger than the coop we built and I spent $300 on it.
and them Ohio people can pick me up in Champaign if the take 74 over... if they stretch it to 70 then yep have to be Effingham and again YEP Cracker Barrell.. the meeting place of America... remember when it use to me.. meet me on the highway at "Stuckies".. lol... nope I don't remember, somebody told me about it though!
OMG I do so remember that, meet me at Stuckies. I have to admit I did meet up with in laws at Stuckies in Texas a very very long time ago.
Frans we HAVE got to get you there. I could manage a big tent and we could have a few of us in it.
Frans, where on 70? 70 runs through St. Louis. I live 45 minutes from St. Louis.
You guys are gonna have a blast! I just yahoo'd mapped for fun. Only 2,065 miles for me and 30hrs. I would kill me on a trip that long....lol
I am interested in pixs of Sheila's DH's bucket feeders & pipe waterers. Transport cages I have been making for years & we were using PVC pipe feeders we made. Just curious, although don't have a use for them right now, since I don't have that many birds anymore.
Thanks!
Cheryl ~ Pea
Cherykl, just fly out h ere and drive in with me... patch, if i can get kids, i will bring them, otherwise... well, once i took two goats past amarillo for bloodwork, and both times driving through town, people would get reall close, then see this horned face looking back at them and back off then go around LOL
okay the closest town in Versailles, pronounced ver-sales around here. Told you we were hicks.
As for camping spots, this is back woods camping. There are only a few sites that even have electric. We will probably have a generator for our camper, but don't think we will need it for air. The spots to camp and to sell are the same ones. Some pull in unload animals from the back of truck sweep it out and then sleep there. There is a very small camp ground at Gravois Mills and that is about 2 miles from the cave.
We will be there all 3 days. They have every type of everything there. Don;t know about the specifics you asked about. It just depends on what others bring.
TF-what age are your kids? We will probably have our there also. They love it with all of the animals.
Cheryl - I will try to get pics of the feeders and waterers up on site. That way if anyone that is coming wants some we can hold them back.
Sheila
Is there a hotel or motel of any sort in the area?
well, there IS a cave...
Tia -n-TF, I think the mess on I-35 is S of I-40. I-44 straight through the city is awful. The northern loop is (or was) nice past the hospital, but obnoxious til then. The 1st nice McD's is either that ext137 (44and35) or on the turnpike preceding Chandler where T wants to get on and it should have tables and run around space outside, but not much green. I think it's one where you can come in E-bound and leave W-bound, but they are definitely not all that way. I could check it out. Missouri is waay better for rest stops, though. Breakfast for lunch could be really nice.
It looked fairly easy by map to come through St Louis onto 70 and grab Patchi on the way. If Josh is coming in Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang the route through STL should be a breeze.
I-35 is just a mess once you are past the Shields exit. Congestion at all times of the day. Even worse at the I-250 cross and then you have the screwed up way it is at I-40 to get to I-35. I will get on at Chandler. It is closer for me to go to Shawnee and head north to catch I-44 than to go 20 miles west to I-44 then back to the east. I am 20 east of OKC.
So if TF leaves out at midnight that should put here somewhere near there around 5 am. I wont be able to leave until at least 6 30 am. Then it would be about an hr to get to Chandler, maybe a little bit more. I would come more to leaving after 8 am tho. Gotta feed the birds collect the ones I am bringing.
Sheila....
***okay the closest town is Versailles, pronounced ver-sales around here. Told you we were hicks.***
We are hicks in Ohio too cause we also have a Versailles pronounced the same way...They also pronounce Russia as ROO-Sha and Piqua as Pick-way, and Bellefontaine as Bell-fountain....LOL
Dusty- Glad to know I am in the company of hicks.
CMoxon- There is a small motel in Versailles. I have never been there. There is also a nice Bed and Breakfast that is very reasonable and nice. There is a motel in Tipton also but that is about 20 minutes from Versailles. The closest big town is Sedalia. They have many hotels and motels as that is where our state fair is held. But it is about a 45 minute drive to versailles.
I guess I need to know who is coming and needs a spot with us. We are possibly going down wednesday night to stake our spot or early thursday morning. We are planning to stay until Sunday afternoon.
My husband said that whoever wants to are invited to eat with us each night. We can BBQ and maybe all throw together some sides. We will have our pop-up camper there and a generator. So we will have some air for those that need to cool down if it gets to hot.
We will be going back and forth to our house to shower and clean up and everybody that wants to can come here to shower also. It is about 30 minutes from versailles, but have to come home to feed chickens and close them up and open them in the morning.
We are sooooo excited to meet all of you and will try to be the best swap meet hosts we can.

AWESOME sounds good to me, I for 1 will be there. will we be able to camp fire cook at the camp sites? I can bring some propane stove things. I think my brother has some. Doing the grandsons birthday party today so will be in and out, wont be on after 2ish.
You did say tents are ok right.. so if there are 2 of us.. then I will do a tent, if alone I will sleep in the truck.
