I just looked at the 10 forecast,........ rain and 60 degrees for the 20th. I'll look into getting a tent for the day maybe, or we could use the barn. Or the weather forecast could be wrong, we'll see. There will be some where dry to be though!

Thumbnail by NWGordon

The forecast is wrong. Count on it. Groupthink sun!!
Excellent baby, Steve! Really excellent!

Gordon, where did you get that awesome shutter with the seahorse!! I adore it!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Very cute baby, Sofer- in my family we called one of my grandfathers "Granddad"-it fit him well, full of fun and energy, definitely a Grand Dad....might fit you, too. :)

Gordon, I'd love some of your seeds, if that would be OK. So far, it looks like we're still on for heading up there but we're still working on when. We may head up on Friday evening. We have to do a birthday thing for my mom while we're up there but we're still resolving the details with the family.

Snohomish, WA

Cool Susy! There all plenty of seeds to go around. Been digging in the back and got some fenrs and a few trees. Ferns are plentiful, and anyone who wants to go on a dig there's the whole back of the property that is full of natives, ferns , trees, and berries of all kinds.

Desert Fire in Redmond - Monday night - 8:00 p.m. Be there. Aloha.

Seriously, we'll meet in the lounge unless I hear from a bunch of people who want to eat.

Kate (Katye), Steve (Sofer), and I (katie59 - duh) will be there.

Snohomish, WA

I'll try! But don't make me a for sure! Would love to meet the infamous Sofer, and Kayte, it's been awhile since we tore up WM! Be fun to catch up!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Awfully late for you, the pre-dawn riser, I know. But I gotta get home from downtown Seattle, etc. first and these guys are great about accommodating me.

North Lakewood, WA(Zone 8b)

I'm planning on attending next week-end so I've been making a list of things that I will dig only if someone wants them. So please speak up.
Darmera
Geranium Johnson's Blue
Coreopsis "moonbeam"
Typha minima europa (mini cat tails)
Papryus
I'll be bringing lots of potted things too, and some seeds.
Does anyone have some echinacea they would like to get rid of or Rudbeckia Herbstone?

Linda

I would love all of that! Thanks for coming, too! I'm sure you will have no problem giving stuff away, or trading it.The typha would look cool in the bath tub!

thistledown, i would love some of the papyrus if it's the tall kind. I have some of the regular echinacea I can dig up for you. E. purpurea. Is that what you are looking for? I noticed seedlings earlier this week and thought 'I better dig those for the swap'.

Gordon, did you say you had seeds from that crocosmia? If so, I'd love to have some if you have enough. Also, I still want to know about that cute shutter with the seahorse on it. I may have to steal that design. I need something like it for my shed. It is too cute!

Hey pixy! It came off the house my friend was renting next to the Mukilteo ferry. The house was covered in these, might have to go back down there and see if I can get you one.The whole house is being demolished and ferry holding area put there. And there will be plenty of seed pods for crocs, but some of them after the swap.Might be ready in time for the GE swap in Oct though!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I so hate to make concrete plans so far out, every time I do it falls apart, So I will say I am hoping to go and will go if nothing changes in the next 5 days at work work. So want to see all that I know, and the new DGers. and will have camera LOL.

Kathy, how tall are the Dog Wood? and where you planing to bring them? need to know if they will fit in the bread box. Ha Ha

Thistledown, Would love to have a Geranium.
And the Typha, does it like to be around water, like a creek. I am unfirmiliar with it, now that sounded dumb. LOL

Gordon, I got some Castor Bean seeds, I ordered them to make a shade screen for the south side of my house where my bedroom is to shade the windows during summer, never planted them when I found out they where poisonous if ate, I had a new puppy then, not so puppy anymore.LOL Do you want them ?

Tills

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Mary - I don't think they will, even laying down. I think they'll need to come in a truck at some point. One is a little the worse for wear after the summer (I don't know why). But the big one is 3-4 ft tall and in a 2-gallon or bigger pot. It would have been no trouble bringing them when I was driving the truck, but I don't have it right now. It's in Northgate at my brother's don't know if it'll be back in time. Might have to do a delivery . . .

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

ThistleDown, now after posting EpiPorn you need to provide cuttings at the swap, for those of us in need.

As to the 10 day out weather, piffle. It will always be rain, because it is better to forecast rain and have sun, than vice-versa. Besides, NOAA will only give a 7 day forcast, and they run the biggest and most sophisticated models. So a 10 day forecast is just bogus if not outright lies. NOAA does say that a breakdown of the temperatures will occur midweek next week, but they have no sign of how strong the breakdown will be.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Kathy You have mail.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I hadn't thought it would be possible to come, but since my mother has died and her funeral will be over (and I'm forgiven for not attending the wedding I was invited to), I plan on being there. My daughter from CA wants to come with me (actually she wants to drive me as I am so directionally challenged and she's afraid I might disappear!!!!). I am not sure if I will be bringing any plants (other than some Heuchera varieties) as things went to hexx when I was in Seattle so much being with my mom, but I do soooooooooooooooo want to see everyone and get back into the world of the living (especially the world of my gardening friends!!!). I do have some pink Phlox that doesn't look good right now but should be fine for next year. I'll check more during the week to see just what I have.

North Lakewood, WA(Zone 8b)

I'll do alot of digging this week and should have plenty for those that want it.
Tilly typha lives in the water. It's simply a smaller version of cat-tails.
Analog I will bring epis.
This is going to be fun.
Linda

Snohomish, WA

Yeah!! I'm so glad you are coming murmur!! This should turn out to be a real fun time. Don't anyone feel stressed about the time. Just not before 9 am, but stay as long as you like! Is just a crazy mix of finger food ok? I think I said before to just bring drinks, except I'll have lots of coffee made.
Please bring what ever you just want to share or just plain don't want anymore.
Rob, I have a Christmas cactus from Carla for you, and she sent over some tulips also. She will try to come, but it's her birthday Saturday(Happy Birthday, Carla!!), so she might not make it, but her plants did!

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Cool, I am going out right now to dig some plants for the swap. Seeds are collected. I will also bring some Epi and succulent cuttings both rooted and not-rooted for trade or give-away.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Carole I am so glad that you are going to make it! I will bring your little trees :0)

Gordon are you sure that you don't want us to bring any food, just drinks? This is going to be so much fun! My dad is coming with me and bringing plants as well.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Carol - that is such good news. I'm very sorry about your loss of your mother, but so happy that we'll meet.

Carol, I did not know your mother had died. You have certainly had more than your share lately so I am thrilled to know you will be there! Is there anything that you need to replace in your garden?

Rachel, I'm glad you're bringing your dad! Always a pleasure to see him! (and you, of course.)

Is there anyone besides Rob who is into succulents? Rob, I've got a couple of boxes of plants and cuttings, mostly rooted, for you. Anybody else?

I'm going to have a few things in pots that simply will not have homes at my house. It's 'pot ghetto' clearance time.

Those little cat tails are so cute! I've tried to grow them in my pond a couple of times, but my water has too high a Ph for them. They always languish after a year or so. Horsetail won't grow for me, either.

Rats and darn, Gordon! I was hoping the seahorse shutter was from some more 'local' source. Maybe I'll just make a pattern when I'm there and make my own. I would need two of them, anyway. Too bad about a house being torn down, especially one with such cute little shutters!

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

I will be bringing my DW and DS who is almost 4 right now to this little affair. I think they will be both entertained.

I went and dug up some Dicentra (from wild stock) and some Corydalis lutea today, and have them potted and well watered already. And I have some

I also picked through my succulent collection of plants that need to be spread about. I will be bringing a few rooted Epi cuttings, some Haworthia offsets, some Sansiveria offsets, I will make some cuttings of Ceropegia woodi, the Rosary Plant that can be rooted easily.

I have several hundred seeds from Crocosmia 'Lucifer'. I suspect there will be plenty to go around.

I will be getting more plants divided in the next few days: Coreopsis 'Moonbeam', Black eyed Susan, and so on? Does anyone want Acanthus mollis (Bears Breeches)? I moved one that was doing badly in one location, and now I still have some small plants at that location.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Murmur - how nice to hear from you, even with sad news. My thoughts are with you. But it is also just sooooooo nice to have your presence again. And starting your return to 'land of the living' with gardeners - how extraordinarily apt!! Grow forth!

Gordon - you have gathered a wonderful collection of people for your garden party - it says a lot. Wish I could be there in person - I am absolutely convinced that the sun will shine - no matter what the weather.

All the best to all of you. L

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pixy- I would love some succulents (the outdoor hardy type :0)

Analog- I would be happy to give your acanthus a home and some of the coreopsis as well.

I'm headed out right now to dig plants. Will post a list this evening. Rachel

Rach, the succulents I'm packing up for Rob are not hardy. They are the ones that take up all the room in my greenhouse during the winter. I think I'll be seeing you before this weekend, so you can just 'point and pick' when you get to my yard if there are hardy succulents you want.

Laurie, you are always with us in spirit!

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

I am working on a list of my succulents which are tender or able to take various levels of PNW weather harrassment. So I could be able to help with noting the more hardy plants.

I am also on a hunt for Opuntia fragilis and the 4 Sedums that are native species in Washington, when I find them, I will see if I can get enough to share with interested parties.

Everett, WA(Zone 7b)

Cool, thanks Gordon, I would love to take some cuttings, I will bring my tools and gloves... they are not so new and clean as they were back in spring! I would love all the crocosmia I can get ahold of... don't have any in my yard at all. Castor beans are so pretty, but are they very toxic? Or not too bad. Actually I would probably be up for trying them anyway, I am sure most things in my yard are anyway. :) My cat has an infection or something, was on death's door this morning at the vet, and I am wondering if he possibly ate something in the yard that didn't agree with him... but it could have been just about anything!! That cat is not bright. I know even rubarb is toxic depending on which part of the plant you eat, right? Sheesh. Anyhow, I am very excited to chat with you nice folks again and meet the people I didn't get to meet in the spring time. :)

I have a number of hardy sedums, but I'm not sure which 4 you're referring to as native to Washington since my reference lists more than 4 but covers the entire Pacific Northwest, not just Washington state. If you'll post the list, I'll see what I have. I do have S. spathulifolium, which is supposed to be native to Washington, and I have plenty of it so I'm happy to share. I also have a really nice groundcover sedum which I have not yet identified. It was here when I moved in. It covers quickly, but is easy to control if you don't want it in an area. I'll take a photo of it if anyone is interested. I may also have some other hardy native sedums. I know I have a lot of the smaller sedums that are hardy, but not necessarily native. I probably have some of the native ones, too, and just don't know it. I know I have S. oregonense, but it hasn't established yet. Post if you are looking for something in particular, or I could take photos of what I have and post them.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

The four I am thinking of come from a list held at the UW Burke Museum Herbarium's list and map of the Flora of Washington:

Sedum divergens
Sedum oreganum
Sedum spathulifolium
Sedum lanceolatum

I have S spathulifolium var 'Cape Blanco', but no others. I would like to get the wild plants to see them as nature intended.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Pixy, I don't think I lost much in my actual gardens, just some of the potted plants I was saving for trade or sale. I hate to lose any living thing - makes me feel like a murderer by neglect!!! I had planned on a plant sale next year mainly for financial reasons, but I find I am not as bad off as I had feared. So I will just see how many of them come back and take it from there. I'm sure there will be plenty of things to dig up and divide soon anyway.

Snohomish, WA

Murmur, just pull up some daisies and a fern, and just come on over! You don't have to fill your car up with plants! You'll probably need the room for the car load going home!

Rob- just got some Andasonia digitata seeds!!! Want a couple? I have a dozen, and for sure going to use them, but we have talked about them before.
