**SWEET INTERRUPTION** 15

Raleigh, NC

haven't read yet - hope everyone is ok, especially the gals in the path of Fay - and she's finally sending a little rain, at least due this week, our way.

Have to tell my sistahs that your inspiration has been the key. after two precious sistahs sent me orders for my irises, was so inspired, I got up the courage to harvest them and take them to our State farmers market. (there are advantages to living in the state capital!) Discovered a great commaradry there, like joining a new family. One vendor was giving everyone some free mixed nut cones as snacks around 3pm as a pick me up (much needed), the fella next to me the first day gave me all kinds of tips, and we got some ideas of how to do better on a display from him. Next day, the guy next day let me use his broom to clean up and was pleasant all day long, gave me a great, great tip on where to go a few towns over for even better sales. He says my "stuff" appeals to older - well, he's right - folks with money, so that other market would work for me. He also explained that I had marvelous security, should I ever have a problem, the whole facility was on camera, even my car. He'd only heard of one minor scuffle in all the years he'd been selling there. Our market has a separate area for plant stuffs, but we're between the food sellers and fruit and veggie vendors, so it was nice to watch the folks go by. DH came along to help set up, and stayed almost all first day "people watching," having a blast at it he says.

Made enough $$ to pay some bills.... and buy a few more plants! LOL

Thank you for the encouragement, ladies!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I wish you could just show up at our farmers market, but you have to reserve a booth for the whole season. It sucks, it's not what markets are supposed to be.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

How wonderful Bon! I wish you all the success and knowing you, in no time, you'd set a name for yourself in NC iris world. And you'll be DG's resident expert! Our own Bonnie "Iris" Lass!
Even though hope is all we have...... that's a good thing to spur us on...

Raleigh, NC

well, i'm very lucky I got in. Am told in spring I won't be able to get in at all, and after Sept. 15th either. Vendors are given priority by seniority - stay longer, get better location, too. just happened to hit a great time.

and didn't just walk in either - had to get "inspected" and vetted. It took 3 weeks - so i've been digging all this time. didn't want to mention it if I fell flat on face with it.

Don't remember who wrote something about it to me, but someone here suggested it, and I got to thinking about it.

LOL - the IRS is back giving us heck - only this time its to DH - we were told they had accepted his settlement offer. They came back with wanting money from sales of both our houses (we have one - other was sold in 2004 and the proceeds used to pay the debt the failed company left us) and both 401(k)s (there's only one - the other was rolled in at the new employer when DH was laid off in January). They've "valued" our home at $100k more than it's worth. It's so messed up.

This weekend was a real uplifting bright ray of hope.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

IRS won't be happy till they think there's nothing left to squeeze out of you.
Oh boy! Again, I'll say, hang in there Bon. The seed has been planted, and you're on the right track, to bring in some income. And each time you buy a plant, at least you could mark it as an investment!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, Bonnie, the IRS can play havac with our lives... can't they? Good you had a wonderful weekend... congrats...

Bad news, sistahs... Gustav is now just south of the Dominican Rep... predicted to become a Cat 1 hurricane before it gets to Cuba... and is headed straight for the Gulf via the tip of Fla... If it picks up steam in the warm waters(as is the usual characteristic of these things)... this could be real bad for the already storm torn FL people. It's predicted to be past Cuba by Sat or Sun.
So, Marion... keep those hatches battened down for now... ok?
And all you others in Gustav's path... my thoughts are with you.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, and the rest of this weather report... I forgot.

There's yet another storm brewing (Invest 95) that is right behind Gustav... it's not named yet... headed the same direction, so far.

Raleigh, NC

well, let's all pray that those storms bring just some rain if they reach here - that much we need. can't do anything about weather or IRS, but I feel ok when I pray about weather - weird if I pray about mankind screwing up.

catching up on my reading here - hoping again all are ok.

This rock on glass or glass on rock may not work out so well. As the saying goes - it's always not so great for the glass.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

We may get some rain tonight, finally!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I know what you mean about that bright ray of hope...my DH's employer came out at the beginning of the month that he has sold the business. We weren't sure where we would stand with the new owners as they only agreed to keep current employees until the first of the year, deciding between now and then who will stay and who will be let go. At our age it isn't easy to just pull up and find a new job. DH had his first meeting with the new owner this morning and is very excited....they seem to agree on almost everything so far, and told Bill to book reservations for the industry trade show in Las Vegas next month....we have gone, but had to pay all of our own expenses in the past! It is looking very good so far which is good for me....with my depression episodes I don't deal well with long term stress and it feels like an Elephant just got off my back!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Well Trisha..that's certainly something to 'shout' about!
Come on over whenever you feel that "D" word setting in. You are amongst Sistahs!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

BJ, aren’t storms supposed to have female names?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Nope, every other one is male... keeps it politically correct.

That "D" word... now, lets see... hmmmm

Depression
Delirium
Disgust
Delusional
Dimensional

I have all those, at one time or another... that's why I'm here so much... all good reasons to be here.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Not necessarily. Bad Andrew hit me hard, and Hurricane Floyd did some damage here.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Equal Opportunity there...LOLOL.
At least I have good company here BJ!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Me too, Jaye...

Raleigh, NC

does anyone remember when they got "politically correct" with the male names? was it five years, ten years ago? hehehe

as a child, there was a hurrican made it up to dutchess Cty. NY where my southern parents were living at the time. they were so stunned that a hurricane could come that far. closed the schools, I remember Hazel was her name. in '96 it was Fran that destroyed our beach place - a mobile home we kept overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway between Topsail and Wrightsville Beaches. in '99, Floyd sent a wall of debris and wiped out my iris bed of all the irises transplanted to our new home. but we have been truly blessed - no one lost life or limb, and property/material things come and go so fast in my life.

Good evening ladies. Just getting around to find where everyone is. I got back home about 3 this afternoon, but just had to sit for a while and rest. My foot Doc told me I have to have surgery on both of my feet. I have bad heel spurs and plantar faciitus, Basically fallen arches. But they are quite painful, and he said I could have no more steroid shots, and that surgery was the only alternative. So I have to send my Dad to Michigan, so my Sister can watch my Dad for 12 weeks, while my feet heal. it will be a nice break for hubby and I, but now I am trying to figure out if I can still make it to the round up!!! I have to have one foot fixed, then the other. Maybe I can get to the round up between feet???
I will keep you all posted, and things get arranged.

In 1979 a six year rotating list of Atlantic storm names was adopted — alternating between male and female hurricane names. Storm names are used to facilitate geographic referencing, for warning services, for legal issues, and to reduce confusion when two or more tropical cyclones occur at the same time.

That's a quote taken from this page... more than most of you care to know... but a lot of info for those who do want to know.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, Dear... LK... that's so awful...
I know how aching feet can be... not first hand, but my mom suffered with her feet for many many years... same thing... fallen arches, and spurs...
So far, I haven't had that problem...

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Linda Kay, I'm so sorry you are having such trouble with your feet. Heel spurs and falling arches cause so much pain and immobility. Stay determined, gf.

That's longer ago than I thought, Bj. So the next one will be a male name starting with the letter J or K?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Linda Kay, how much time between the two surgeries?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

No, Gustav is the current one... that's male.
The next one (and there is one developing now right behind Gustav) will be named Hanna.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh, so the male names are alphabetized and chosen at random alternating with the female name "abc" list. Right?

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

BJ, I resemble that remark. If my issues were paperback I’d have a bookstore.

Linda Kay, I’m sorry to hear about you health issues; hope everything goes well. You’ll be in our thoughts.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, they're all in alphabetical order... as in 2008 list is Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paloma, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, Wilfred... no X,Y, or Z.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Laura I told them to watch out for you (don't see any other family members on the list)!!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Not this year at least, on the upside even my tempers are fairly calm these days.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

LK-you can still go the round up-just gotta go in a motorized scooter or sometihng (which I think look like a ton of fun!!) and look at it this way-it will give Dh a reason to spoil you;)

Laura-that is awesome!! I would love to have something that powerful named after me-but then again I'd feel terrible if it caused too much damage-let's be honest though-somthing blowing that much wind around, they are bound to have a Stacey one sooner or later!!LOL

JOEY WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!

Bonnie-that is wonderful about the market-so glad to hear it!! Sorry bout the stupid IRS though...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My Dad has one I can use. LOL
That would be a hoot!!!
JoJo was on another thread this morning.

Linda Kay, you're in my thoughts and prayers. Bone Spurs in feet are very painful, per my DFIL.

Speaking of whom, we're trying to talk him into coming for a visit. Sure hope they come - I need things fixed here! His adorable son is a marvelous provider, when he's not being laid off, but he's not handy. DFIL, on the other hand, is extremely handy! Last time they visited, he and my dad built a hand rail on the stairs going up to match the other rail on the stairs going down. why there wasn't one, I don't know, but both DH and mom were having trouble without one. then both dads got together and put together my cement mixer that I'd bought on sale 2 years earlier at Northern Tool.

I saw one in the Home Depo yesterday - it rents for $30 for 4 hours! guess I've gotten my money's worth.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LK... what thread was JoJo on this morning?
I can't find her anywhere...

How does one find where someone is posting? I can find where she opened threads from her member's page, but I haven't a clue how to see where she's posting on other threads.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

BJ, I saw her somewhere, too, don't remember where.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

She was on the 3 b's swap

Raleigh, NC

bj I forgot to add thanks for the storm info - that's great to know, because I thought they never repeated a name, and I thought I found a repeat this year for first time ever.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

A funny for your Tuesday.
Stacey, this one is for you!!!

Sometimes...

When you cry... No one sees your tears.

Sometimes... When you are in pain... No one sees your hurt.

Sometimes... When you are worried.. No one sees your stress.

Sometimes... When you are happy.. No one sees your smile .

But FART!! Just ONE time... And everybody knows!!

^_^ ^_^ ^_^

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Linda so sorry to read you're going thru' pain :(
Joey's okay, she posted in the old room!

Bringing over her post:
"Hey everybody, had a little storm and tree blew through widow in den, we are all fine.
My computer and bench are a mess. I am using the neighbors puter right now, but have to run home for the workers. Don't worry, I'll be bck later or tomorrow. Almost have new PC back up, just gotta get the workers out of the house..."

NOW, we can do the "OH MY GOD. Thank you Lord..she's okay" sigh!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

OH MY GOD. Thank you Lord..she's okay! What a mess with a tree through the window. Thankful noone was hurt!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

OMG... TY Lord...
Now, I can call the Sheriff and tell the troops to "stand down"... Whew.

I knew it had to be something awful, cause that's just not like her.

Lordy, JoJo... tree though the window... now, that's got to hurt the house a bit...
