2nd. Annual DG Christmas Workshop "Victorian Santa"

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, where can we order the staffs, and or mini lanterns? Are they online somewhere?
Linda Kay

Victoria Harbour, ON

The staffs are merely branches off trees (cut to size) ! As for the horn, I found a place on-line here in Canada...will probably order a shipment and put them in the packages..will check cost first...perhaps by the time you do them Christmas things will be out in the $$$ stores..they probably would have exactly the decoration you want...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks, I will keep looking.
Linda Kay

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Joanne's here had the 3" styrofoam balls in packages of 6 so if anyone is looking check there--if there is one near you.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Don't know about you all, but Christmas decorations are out in all stores here. They start so early that I'm tired of them by Christmas. Does anyone else save those fancy decorations that come on gifts, gift baskets, candy boxes, etc.? They are too nice to throw away. Bet if we pulled them out we would find some fun items in those. Maybe bugles or other items that Santa would like to hold.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yeap, first requirement of being a pack rat!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No craft stores here at all. so sad!!!
I like the idea of gift decorations, I will have to go and see what I can find...
just give me a reason to go to San Antonio to the hobby lobby, joannes.... ^_^

Linda Kay I have a couple of the 6 packs, want me to send you some? Will do gladly.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Went to the big city Monday and stopped by a Hancock's Fabrics. Got fabric and trim, then went to Michaels and got the balls and a few more addons. Now for a trip in the woods looking for natural material....That will be fun except for the copperheads under foot.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Marion, let me that would be so nice. Do you need postage first?

Thank you so much.
Linda Kay

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Copperheads, yikes! Deborah, hope you wear boots. We have them here and they are so hard to see. Hey, a small copperhead with a wire run through him might make a good staff.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

What a staff! He could give it to naughty kids!
I tried to find Hobby Lobby Sat. on my way home, they've moved it. No luck! Have to go back the 20th. to the dr. I'll try again! Wonder if a pine limb would work?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yikes Deborah!!! I have tons of branches and no copperheads--want some/

Nope Linda Kay will just mail them to you in the next day or so. Full plate today!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

regular branches will do fine girls...we have halloween things out in the stores but nooooo Christmas, thank goodness, until of course I want something to finish craft projects with..I've a couple excellent ideas I am working on so shortly I'll be praying that the materials I need will be out...

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Can anyone tell me where you are finding your velvet. I found a couple of places on the internet but they are only 44 inches wide. One is in red crushed velvet and the other that I found that is in Raspberry Velveteen that is 55 inches wide.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I found mind in a fabric store, Hancock's fabric.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks I will check them out.

Victoria Harbour, ON

2 pugdogs, the 44" would be ok..when they say 45" they are being liberal....

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Mine was 12.99 a yard. It had a 1/2 off hang tag on the bolt so I bought that particular color over several others to choose from. However, when she went to write up the ticket she told me it was mismarked, that the 1/2 off tag shouldn't be on it.. Not uttering a word, I tilted my head down slightly peeking over my glasses and then she gave me the tagged price at 1/2 off.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh i gotta get me a pair of them glasses. i hate when they do that. I pay the price i see it marked at or there is a scene.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Good for you! If it says it, that's good enough for me.

I have this long shopping list of things I have to get to make all my swaps, but I went shopping here at home and found a few things that just might do.

I am getting ready to retire and move near one of my sons, so I am going to hold an in-house garage sale for a few friends and the two DIL that are interested and let them pick over all the craft, seasonal stuff, books, even kitchen stuff I'm not going to keep and let them shop till they drop. Rather recycle than pitch.

Glenview, IL

Ohwah! Rasberry Velvateen sound gorgeous!!

LOL, am waiting on velvet to see if price goes down too, still 12.99
Woohoo Deborah, nice "sale" .

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

Jo Anns has on line coupons you can print all week. They are for 40% off a regular priced item. That would include a cut of the velvet if anyone thinks that is a good enough deal. You dont have to order on line, just print out the coupons.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks everyone.

Glenview, IL

Oh my gosh, Awsom thank you!!
going to print mine now.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I cannot find a Jo Ann's around my area (50 mile radius). I hear yall talk about that shop a lot. I bought some fur too to put on the collar, cuffs and hem. I'm pretending my Santa found roadkill.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Deborah, we have one!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I got mine at wal-mart, for $5.99 per yard. They had reds, and blues to choose from.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I looked at our Walmart but no velveteen. They did have some crushed velvet but it was in wild animal print.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can see you Judy rushing around after work visiting Joanne's..lol..see now that I've had a visit with you I knowexactly where you are going, how long it takes, and even the inside store layout...isn't that just the greatest...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

And......

Don't forget to check Thrift Shops and Good Will stores for the fabric! Many old bridesmaid resses, fdressy dresses and bath robes are made of suitable fabric. It may not be Velvet or Velveteen---but velor of some kind. Just as usable!

Also---Have any of you heard of "Schrocks"? It has been a Craft Supplies Catalog company since 1947. No fabrics that I know of.....

I recently got a card from them announcing that they have formed a partnership with the online www.ConsumerCrafts.com as of August 4, 2008.

It also states in the letter I got that you can get 10% off all orders placed before September . Check out this website....

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

I got my 3" styrofoam balls today - yep, a pack of 6. Anyone else need one? Got mine at Michaels. $4.99 for pkg of 6.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I got 2 4 in. and 6 2 in. balls. Still don't have my velvet or braid.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sorry my typing, somehow, got cut off....

The 10% 0ff on all orders placed on line is good till September 30th.

You MUST enter the Promo Code: 1947 to get the discount.

Let me know how all this worked out.....

Gita

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well it sounds like I need to get on the stick! If the weather isn't too bad Saturday (Hurricane Ike coming in) I'll go get the stuff.
Thanks for the info on JoAnn's Fabrics! They have those everywhere down here, also Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I'll make the list now!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty, is there a pattern for Santa's coat? I have some fabric scraps but not sure any one piece is big enough. Will we be piecing seams or is it all one piece?

Glenview, IL

Hi,
LOL Betty, wasn't able to get to Joanns. But I am making it a point to get to Michaels tonight.

Looking for some decorations for my Santa.
LOL, you know how awful i am with math, so what is a decent size items to go.
You said he will be 22" i think, So item's 11" and smaller would be alright?

Victoria Harbour, ON

You could very well use up scraps of velvet...sew them together, maybe some decorative stitches to make the correct size...what happens is the material is folded in 1/2 then a square on each side of it is cut away so that it creates arms...
