2nd. Annual DG Christmas Workshop "Victorian Santa"

Victoria Harbour, ON

I've received several d-mails asking to be included in the Victorian Santa Workshop so thought I had better post a thread relating to same more to keep me organized than anything else...

Last year we had a wonderful time doing an on-line thread on a day of choosing in which we did a 24" Victorian Santa Sleigh" ..from the on-line workshop these girls were able to make many more to be used as Christmas gifts...

It was decided then that we should do a 2nd Annual Workshop...so here we are!!

No experience in crafting necessary...

How will it work?

Together we will choose a Sat. or Sun. where I will be able to sit close by the computer, taking pictures of each step..the Victorian Santa is very easy, honest...it's a project that anyone can do and follow...

How does one get the materials?

Last year I sent out supplies that wouldn't be easy to obtain and part of the materials had to be gathered by participants...same for this year..
individuals who participate will receive a 'kit' and also I am posting a list that you can be gathering up the items needed....

Your kit will include:

Victorian Santa Face
Body kit
Hair pkg. for beard and hair (specialty item)
stuffing
3 Lengths of 18" heavy duty floral wire
4” stip of contrasting velveteen or velvet for hands

You will need to pick up:

3” Styro Ball
2 styro balls - 1/2” to 1" (will be used for hands)
¾ of a meter of either cotton velveteen or velvet (prefer 45”)
Liquid stitch
Gold Braid
Glue gun & glue sticks
Lightweight craft wire
Decorations as desired to complete your Santa

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

when as in month do you plan to do this. if it is not to soon add me and my mom her d name is darlinmoma we will be doing it at her house.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I would love to do this one also. How much is the kit, and do you take pay pal, or money order?
Linda kay

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh yea what Linda Kay said. I will send a money order.

Victoria Harbour, ON

No don't take either..what we've done in the past is chose a Nov. Sat/or Sun. whatever best suits everyone..if someone isn't available that particular day then they can follow the thread and I'm always on-line on DG and can guide you through..let's see how would Nov. 13th. or 14th. do???

As for cost, probably around $20.00 - beard alone is around $5.00 (and that might include postage...have to cost out the beard/wood etc. know that the beard package if frugal can almost do 2 santa's..

So what I will do as you sign up and I get the kits together, I'll post out and then you can send me via mail the fee...not before...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy I lost his head, will take close-up tonight...lol

Sounds good to me.
Can't wait to get this one going. I collect santa's, and this one will be so nice to add to the rest.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I would love to do this one, but money's tight! Sign me up anyway, I can always cancel, I guess. Your kit is a really good buy!

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm in!! I really want to try one of these!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will add your names, what I will do prior to mailing out YOUR kit, that means all of you, I'll d-mail, if for any reason you can't participate I'll not mail it how, ok...

Glenview, IL

Dunno yet Betty. One for MIL, I'll see if kids want to work the santa too. Will be fun to shop with them for material. They do like that.
Will keep one too...Cousin Joyce...
Jacob will probably give his to teacher, She loved the sleigh last year...and I think one to someone special, I think of every single day.
LOL, they went pretty quick and I haven't even made them yet.

Oh, Yes we found a nice little container for Liz to pack hers in...Don't recall how many though, 4 maybe.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, go ahead and put me in. I wont cancel! I can send you the money before you mail the kit.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Something came to mind, someone mentioned that perhaps some of these Nearly New or Salvation Army type stores might have dresses done in beautiful velvet, could be recycled for just this purpose..am thinking of checking out same...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doe41, nope, no money before that way I'll not get confused..I'll do shipping here and there in the next month or so and then you all can mail it to me..

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty, thanks for signing me up. My calendar shows the 13th and 14th as a Thurs and Friday. Is that what you intended? I'm not avail the 13th (work), but am avail 14th, 15th or 16th.

Have you found your poor Santa's head yet? lol!

Glenview, IL

LOL, raising hand with a question already!

How tall did you say the finished Santa is?
This way we can get proper size decorations.

Eyebrow raise, I am thinking a beaded stocking!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Awesome idea that I will for sure check them stores. Going there this week.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh seed that would be great with it. I like that idea.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Wooohooooo!!!!
Audrey, don't you worry Sistah, I got you covered ;) This is gonna be fun!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thing is, I don't do Christmas decorations. But this will certainly be my first special Santa..thanks Betty!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

That is right Audrey we will make sure you are in ALL of these projects and swaps we got a going on.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Is it possible to find the sleigh link, I would like to take a gander at it.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

You guys make me feel about 2 in. tall! I'm soooo glad to have you all as friends!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Nope hunny you should feel 20 ft tall.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

I've been saving some of my late DMIL's clothing items to recycle the fabric and fur into Santas for family members. This is kind of what I'm aiming for http://www.santasbycsf.com/santas/ . Thought about sending the fabric to this artist and having her make them - but nearly fainted at the prices!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh that would be wonderful to use something that has memories.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow Debra!! They are beautiful though.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

luvs, she lived in Pakistan and Okinawa years ago and brought back some pretty silks. She's got a nice mink stole but it's out of style and won't be worn. I thought it was a nice way for everyone to have something of hers and even be able to pass them down to grandkids, etc. Now, it's matter of paying strict attention to Betty's instruction! Betty, have you ever failed anyone? Do you have remedial classes?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

OMG they are just adorable, and expensive, i bet someone could dissect it enough with a picture and come up with a pattern.

Glenview, IL

OK time to say something....

Nope Never failed anyone. LOL, I am one of the worst students...takes a minute or two to catch on, and Betty was the most
patient teacher.

She also taught us how to make the living bird feeder!

...Great thread, gives some really neat ideas and use of materials.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

hmmmmmmmmm living bird feeder ok now I am going to go search for that one.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Living bird feeder????? sounds interesting. Can you link us?
