August Blooms Part 2

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I think I jumped the gun in moving this little guy to his pot pan.

***I just remembered that I have a plant to send with August houseplant swap........yikes!

This one has been in here a long time. If you move them to a squatty pot about 5" across, you can take hair pins and stick down the stems of the crowns.........thus making more

You can get into HUGE trouble at Andy's! LOL And I can honestly say those are probably the healthiest, nicest, most mature plants I've gotten anywhere, from any seller, of any type of plant. They are AWESOME! I placed the order one day, then the next day I just had to have his special of the day, so I called and added it to my order. My husband about had a fit when he found out how much I spent. I told him to guess, and his first guess was exactly half of what I spent. All but one of them are fragrant, though, so that helped him deal with it a little bit better. LOL

I don't have a problem using the pan pots for trailers, but if I repot it, it's just going to have to settle in and put out more roots before it blooms. I'd pot it in a gold-plated pan pot if the darn thing would just BLOOM!

Gail, you know you make me sick with your AVs, right? ;o) LOL What is that pink one? It's beautiful! Remember that one that got so messed up in the box last summer that you sent me? It's still alive! You told me to throw it away. Still hasn't bloomed, though.

Anyone recognize this plant?: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/891180/

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Rain, which pink are you talking about? The first one is called Sunrise Waltz and the lighter variegated one is called Champagne Pink.

I just bought on DG Marketplace some goodies I wanted very badly!! (LOL)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, it looks like a kohleria to me..........anyone else?????????

(Zone 1)

Oh My Goodness .. How did I miss all these posts? I must have been looking at the wrong thread earlier!

Gotta go back and drool ....

Does the flower look like a Kohleria? I'm not sure... Looks more like an Achimenes flower to me, but the color of the foliage is more Kohleria-like.

Edited to say, I meant for this to go on the Plant ID thread, not this one...

WOW! You ladies are such great growers! I feel like I'm in a florist shop when I look at all these beautiful blooms. I wish I had the patience to be a better Gessie Mama!

Amy ... Yep, I do remember that Petrocosmea Barbata! I had that thing for 2 years and it never did anything, zip, zilch ... just sat there. I knew it would do good with you caring for it! Cute little bloom ... but I gotta admit - Pet Momo is Amazing! I Love the little purple blooms on that one. Great Growing Brenda!

Gail, those AV trailers are real beauties! I had a Champagne Pink a few years ago. I love that one with the purple flowers but the one with the pink variegated foliage is wonderful!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I agree with you Rain except the nodes are so close together on an Achimenes.........and the foliage looks very Kohleria like.

South, TX

Gorgeous plants everyone! Precious orchid, Rain.

Our orchids are all outside on the patio, enjoying rain off and on.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Gail- That Copper Knob is gorgeous! And I'm with Rain- That pink one is just a pretty plant!
And Rain- I am JEALOUS of that Orchid! That was a new one for me! Never heard of Andy's either...

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I might have to just stay away from Andy's!!!!! I need to propagate this week that copper Knob........she is my favorite so far!

Lilburn, GA

Lovely pics! Keep 'em coming!!!

Brenda might be embarrassed but that is OK. Just to be a nice person (she had shingles and sympathizes with me....lol) she sent all of these wonderful products made from the state of Idaho from Huckleberrries.

You have to be one of the nicest people on DG.......may I start over and be your child Brenda? I think you would be qualify to be the world's best mom!

Thanks so much for all these mighty good tasting huckleberry products.

Just wanted to let y'all know I might not be around for a few days. Will try to log in after the storm has passed but will be busy tomorrow trying to secure outdoor furniture and plants and such! And, after Tropical Storm Fay passes through I will be busy trying to get things back in order! Man, why do these tropical storms and hurricanes have to cause so much work!?%

Hope everyone has a great week! I will check in when I can. Hopefully we won't lose power ... and if we do, hopefully it won't be for long!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, we were wondering if maybe you weren't getting ready for the storm.......and it looks like you have been doing exactly that. I hope so much you don't get damaging winds or rain........

Let us hear from you after you get your power back..........
stay safe

Here is a suprise from Honeysuckle Rose this morning . . .

Some I win with on growing plants and some I lose. But, I couldn't live without trying to grow plants.........just a way of life........love your new Honeysuckle Rose, Syrumani.

(Zone 1)

Just checking in while I take a break from the heat and moving plants and securing lawn furniture etc. It is so hot and humid, I had to come into the air conditioning for a break!

So far the storm has been downgraded but we are still expected to get tropical force winds here and we are under a tornado watch for the next 48 hours. I moved plants and secured everything on the east side of the house since the winds will be coming in from the Atlantic side. I still need to go out and take all the hanging plants down from around the pool and move all the heavy container plants up against the house. I'm hoping we don't lose power so I can check in once in awhile! I hate it when the power goes off. But, I also am scared silly of lightning! So, I will check in when I can.

Well, I guess I better get back to work. Have a great day!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I am sorry you have to prepare as if it is headed towards your own house, but I know that is necessary........you never know about the tornadoes, etc. I hope you have your husband to help you move all those plants and pots.

Oh Lin, I pray there won't be any tornadoes! Please have a plan in mind for what you'll do if there is. You can't think clearly at the last second to make a plan. Just stay safe! You know if you lose any plants, we'll help you replace them, so concentrate on keeping yourself and your dear husband safe!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Can't wait until your back telling us your safe and sound Lin!!

Gail I'm glad your box arrived, now come on and tell me what that Beer Poop tastes like?? I haven't tried it before ... LOL

Any spare time I've had has been taken up with picking huckleberries right now, the season only lasts a couple of weeks so you have to make hay while the sun shines to get the little things into your freezer!! Worth it come winter with a sweet, yet very tangy pie to have warm with ice cream! ^_^

~Brenda

(Zone 1)

I'm still here! Almost finished with all the securing of plants ... finally! I just have a few more heavy ones that I need to use the hand truck to move. I was hoping DH would be home to move them so I'm waiting awhile longer. Right now it's just cloudy and breezy but earlier I got drenched with some blowing rain and winds! I'm so glad it's just a tropical storm and no one has had any damage that I've heard. There will be some major beach erosion I'm sure, as usual with any type of tropical system. I don't know that I could ever live right on the beach (like I could ever afford it, LOL.) During the 2004 Hurricanes so many homes and hotels and resorts were totally destroyed in those storms! I know the Cocoa Beach area spent 3 Million dollars on sand restoration from all that was washed away in the 2004 hurricanes ... now they are having the same problem again.

I can't believe the University where my husband teaches was open today! Every other school and college in Central Florida is closed. Classes don't start until next Monday but he had an all day faculty meeting today. I thought for sure they would cancel it. They have a meterology department at the college and are watching things closely! They flew all of the airplanes out yesterday, which is the norm when a hurricane or tropical storm is coming our way. We had Tornado's on Christmas Day and of course the campus was closed for the holidays ... the school was hit hard ... lost the entire fleet of airplanes and a couple of buildings. Tomorrow is supposed to be orientation, which I volunteer to help out every year. They have postponed that until Thursday so hopefully the weather will be much better by then.

Brenda: I have never had Huckleberries or Huckleberry Pie but have heard it's very good! That's great that they freeze well so you can have them for later!

Well, gotta get finished. I will pop back in later on, as long as the weather permits!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Wow, Lin . . . that is alot of work you're doing! Hopefully, you'll only get a good drenching . . .

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Brenda, thanks so much again.......we do the berry 'thing' with dewberries here. It is so hard to pick them as they grow on the creek line......lots of brush, etc. But, as you said, well worth the hard work!

I am saving the 'poop' for someone special in my life!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi there ladies,Wow,wonderful pictures.

Lovely AV's your growing Syrumani.

Gail, I have been worrying about you not eating right on your liquid diet.I won't worry any more with all the good stuff Brenda sent you.LOL.Huckleberry syrup on vanilla ice cream.Yummy.Bet the tea is good too!I love that F Copperknob.Nice color.

Brenda,Your Kohleria. Flirt is too cute.I didn't know they came in minis. Oh Rex is looking good lady, your growing the sinningia well.Mine went dormant and then the tuber rotted.Maybe next spring/summer I can trade you again for a cutting of it.

Amy beautiful pictures as alway. The orchid is cute.

Oh Miss Lin,Stay safe and please check in when you can..

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello jannich, I do have a big surprise to tell you..........just something dingy that I did......

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

Lin, good luck! I hope it gets weaker before it reaches you. I think it will be coming my way after it leaves Florida.

Syru, I love your cutie.

Gail, I hope you have a fun time eating all those goodies. Yummmmmm!

Lilburn, GA

Hi Jan, I missed your post. How are you?

Syru
Just want to wish you a happy birthday and have a great day
And here is my New Bloom Sixth Sence
Happy Bithday

Gail I had to go google "dewberries" as I had never heard of them before! Sounds like they are delicious ...... but a whole lot of work to pick with all the thorns involved!

I had forgotten about your liquid diet when sending on the Bear Poop! I guess chocolate covered nuts aren't on the menu for awhile!

Dimmer ... Sixth Scent is a looker! Wait a day or two for the bloom to "ripen" a bit and you'll be able to smell a light floral scent coming from it! Good growing!

Jan ...... Rex is going gangbusters right now so sending some back in the spring shouldn't be a problem!

Here is sinn Rex side by side with McKenzie, you can tell that Rex is a bump up in size and see the nice orangey color of the bloom compared to the pink in McKenzie ... love them both, you grow good Jan!

what great looking sinningias, Brenda. Don't ya' just love the orange colors!

Love that Strep, Kim! I've got a couple that are scented, but they haven't bloomed enough for me to really smell them yet. LOL

Those are gorgeous Sinns, Brenda! I love the orange colored ones! The UT Vols colors are orange and white and it's almost football season!!!! WooHoo!!! LOL

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Well BSU colors are orange and blue (you know the famous blue turf if your into college football!) don't think I'm going to find that in a flower. LOL

This is the first blooms on Ozark's Rosy Freckles, a recent acquisition from Dave's Violets ....

I'm new to the sinningias and Dave sent me a free gift of a tuber in a bit of spaghum moss that had maybe two inches of viney growth coming out of it. Please tell me how I should have planted it??? ..................And I might tell you how I did plant it! LOL

I'm afraid of the tubers now as I've already rotted a couple by keeping them in the pots and watering them along with my other plants, any storage tips on the dormant tubers?

Amy I've been checking you out on The Marketplace, talk about some good growing!!!! Beautiful young plants!

Thanks, Dimmer! Can't concentrate on work at all, as I'm only working a half day today . . .

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Anna,I'm good Thanks. How are you feeling?

Kim/Dimmer,thats a beautiful strep.Don't ya just love them!

Aww Brenda,Both sinningia look great.I love them both but Maczenzie is my favorite. That little girl just blooms and blooms.I'm so glad I could share her with my friends here.Rosy Freckles is a cutie too.I can't help you on storing the dormant tubers cause mine roted when I put then in a bag with damp perlite/vermiculite then in a dark place.Maybe mrsbonnie or Gail will pop in and tell us.If your free gift tuber has new growth I would just pot it up and give it stong light. But thats just me and I don't know much.IMAO...

McKenzie is such a good bloomer,I put this cutting down a couple of months ago to rot.Look this baby is blooming in the bag.LOL.I have to take the flowers off so it will make a tuber.
