She's about to .... # 11

(Cathy), MO

I spent most of the day potting up plants and moving the sad brugs around to the front of the house. They won't get as much sun there, so maybe they'll do better. I just put them in bigger pots and mulched. I'm going to try to get the others done this weekend too. Making another spot on the north side of the house where there also isn't as much sun. I'll take before and after pictures if anyone wants to see, but they are small and sad right now. Some of the ones now out front were stripped almost completely by the #$%^!! grasshoppers.

Still have 4 pods hanging in there on C Alba!!! Leaves look bad but the pods haven't dropped off.

wish I had one Kim!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Just got in, shopping after work, not much good stuff though. No out door plants but did pick up one more orchid to add to the collection. A few little bits and pieces of this and that happened my way coming out of HD. I gotta start going to Lowes, sounds like they have better stuff.
Kim, where do you get the fish stuff and seaweed, I can’t find it anywhere, going to have to make the recipe with out it.
Peg, I don’t know what that purple lady is either, but she sure is pretty.
Clem, It’s overcast and muggy here, please keep the rain in NY. Please not blow it east, thank you.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Kim, I just caught something. You're chicken gizzard plant (iresine herbstii) and my Purple Lady Iresine must be in the same family. (Or Lowe's renamed it so they could sell it.)

Audrey, your nekid plant looks like the twin to my Puppy Love I just got today. Since you said it was a gift, have you seen a picture of it? Gone2Seed has some very pretty pictures of it in the Marketplace. I'm getting ready to divide some Oriental lilies that are brilliant red. I am trying to fill in a bed but I probably could get you a couple if you want.

Clem, I overdid it on hostas this year. I bought my first one in April and now have 45. But they do grow well here and I've been very pleased. It will be a while for mine to get big and beautiful. Hostas is how I found DG in the first place and now look at what I've got myself into. Tee Hee! Hostas, brugs, irises (Anjl my iris bed is not ready! Help!!) and hottie sisters.

I've got my first full weekend off in over a month, so unless it rains I've got work to do outside. Have a good weekend everyone! Peg

Hotties, just came to my daughter's cpu and I heard a noise, it was Copo. hiding in the bathroom, the poor thing, someone left him there and closed the door on him, now I feel like a rotten mama! The storms have calmed down, so that is good. Need to see what kid of damage I got though with my plants!

Hi girls, sorry I am not catching up, will try later though, this is NOt my computer. LOVE YA ,Clem

P.S.Donna sorry the rain and thunder might be going your way, good luck, here is terrible!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Peg i will post some of my huge ones once i get too my cpu, I am using dd tonight, dh is using mine, but if you could see how big they get, ahhhhhh, gorgeous!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Kim, I just could not resist. You mentioned banana pudding. Do you have the recipe for "Heavenly Banana Pudding" I think it was either Paula Dean or Rachel Ray's, but if you don't have it, please try it. Totally different than the old banana pudding.

2 large boxes instant banana pudding.
2 cups milk
8 ounces of sour cream
1 large tub of Cool Whip

Mix pudding and milk, then blend in sour cream and Cool Whip. Make banana pudding as you usually would with sliced bananas and Nilla Wafers. If this is a recipe you already have, then maybe someone else will like it, too. Peg

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Sounds wonderful Peg, another one I’ll be printing up for my DD. She loves all the ones I’ve given her from here.

Cat, post those pic’s of course we want to see. Naked or not all burgs are beautiful.

(Cathy), MO

Freshly potted, freshly fed and freshly sprayed. Maybe in a few weeks they will fill out a bit.

I can see from the pic, a couple of the pots are a little crooked!! Will straighten them in the morning

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh, Donna, try as I might I am not going to get you to cook, am I? LOL.

Hope everything is okay at Clemen's, poor Copo... and hope you do not get storms too bad.

Got to get to bed, way past my bedtime but at least I don't have to get up at 3 in the morning! Playtime all weekend and must do some housework, too... Yuck... Peg

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Cat they look great, only one with no hat. I love the pots all nice and uniform on that beautiful fresh bed of mulch. I’m not posting my crew until I get the yard cleaned up some. It’s so bad now you can’t even see the mulch anymore.

Peg, me cook, I’m laughing here. I gave that up shortly after the last DD moved out. Now I go and mooch off her.

Time for me to call it a night, have a great weekend everyone. Have some fun; summer is too short to worry about the dust.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz’s

Hey Donna, you didn't see what that area looked like BEFORE I fixed them!!! LOL

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OK.. girlies...
I am trying to catch up...hehe.. I went to see Momma... TY Kim for asking about her!! It is sooo frustrating ... Alzheimers is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with.... one minute she says I haven't been to see her enough... ( Guilt set in!!).. then I ask her how many kids she has ..2.. she has 3.. showed her a pic of my older bro.. she thought it was my younger bro.. ask her who I am... LOL she huffs... and says YOU ARE MY DAUGHTER!!..LOL I got sooo depressed before I went today... I hate to see her like this, and I usually try to go at least every 3rd day.. used to go every other day... If I don't go I get depressed.. and I get depressed when I go..LOL I can't win... but KIM.. I jacked the nurse up tonight.. I told her that she was the 3rd nurse I had told the same problem too, and I expected something to be done about it!! Hopefully this time it will.. at least she wrote an order for it.. we'll see.. ok.. nuff of that!!

Ya'll need to try that recipe, right after ya'll try Pegs!!

cat.. that bed looks good.. I need you here to help me put out another load..lol I already spread a lowby trailer full.. and I need 2 more!!

Kim.. I got the hose end sprayer.. but they didn't have fish emulsion at Lowes..... and I made sure I wore BIG pockets..lol.. but we had a big rain and they closed the gate and locked the cash registers up in the garden center.. and I was the only one out there.. and I "felt" like there were eyes all over me...lol.. didn't find nothing in my pockets when I came home!!..hehe

Peg... I don't know what that plant is either, but it is a pretty thing... yeah... I walked out of Lowes with 3 hardy hydrangias.. and an outdoor fern!! 75% off.. yay!! Lyle NEVER helps me get the groceries out of the car.... but he did tonight... he says... more plants?? You're going to kill yourself...hmmmm well I don't know of a better way I'd like to go then...LOL.. BTW... how nice to get a surprise today!!

Clemie!!... POOR Copo... bless his lil heart... Our rat terrier is sooo nervous in a storm.. but even when it rains , he comes running to me and stays right under my feet.. All the other times he is Lyles dog!! My Pom?? Nothing phases her!!

My loves this year are hostas.. brugs.. and dls..... I have about 80 hostas, but I divided 3 huge plants last year, and that is a lot of mine... and I have gotten some nice dls.. besides the old ditch and Kwansos I have had for years... never heard of brugs.. well kinda..lol my cousin had 1... now I have maybe 25.. some have died.. and not one BLOOM...LOL I am beginning to think brugs don't like me!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

oh becky my heart goes out to you and your family. That is hard to deal with. It was really hard the last two years with my Dad's severe health issues, but I cannot imagine what you have to deal with. Be sure and join a support group. Spent the day painting the shop and I think I am loopy from all the fumes lol. Sheesh! That kilz water stopping primer smells really bad. I jotted down the banana pudding recipes. I love that stuff. I make one with instant pudding both banana and vanilla and you mix the banana pudding with whipped whipping cream and then layer the puddings with fresh cut bananas and vanilla cookies.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Hey chatty hotties!! Alll I did was take a nap ; } Looking good Cat!! Donna I just take pics around the mess : ) Luv the Hostas Clemen! Becky the support grouip Louise suggested is a great idea! My heart goes out to you both. Louise ya gotta have ventilation can't have you getting sick!!! I am just going to have to try both recipes mmmmm! I made the old fashioned cooked custard and topped it with meringue. I got the fish emulsion from WM and the seaweed from Gardens Alive.. Hope all fur babies and all plants are ok!!!!

Love the hostas, sum and substance is one of my favorites. I have had one for probably 10 or more years now. There is a place here that sells hostas, but it is much more. They have hostas planted under these huge trees and they have been there forever so you really see what the hostas is going to look like. They have these paths you can stroll and look at all the hostas in the landscape. Love it.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Peg, I'd love to have one or two lily bulbs! I'll send you postage, or anything else!
I think my "nekid " brug was shipped like that so the leaves wouldn't sap the plants strength in shipping! It arrived without ANY wilt! I love it! Can't wait for blooms!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Morning hotties,
Looks like it’s clearing up here should be a good weekend.
Becky, Alzheimer’s is one the hardest things to deal with, so easy for it to depress the family. You’re a wonderful daughter and doing all you can, a support group may be helpful for you.

I can’t find fish stuff or seaweed anywhere, except what washes up on shore down the street but I don’t know which parts are good or how to clean it for the garden. I see the old timers there all the time collecting buckets full.

I gotta stay away from the clearances; still have hundreds of plants that I started in the spring to put in the ground. Dr. says still no hole digging for me, I’m beginning to think I won’t get them in this year. You know your mess is baaaaaaaaaaaaad when your friends who come to see the garden every year say OMG what are you going to do.

Louise you be careful those fumes can really make you sick. You’ve got to stay healthy so you can fluff all those tails.

Love the Hosta too, had a bad obsession with them for the last couple of years. Lost track of how many are here now. S &S is one of my fav it grows so huge, really fills in the shady spaces. Here is one of the S&S leaves, can’t post the whole plant, no way to crop all the weeds out of the pic.

Donna I found the fish emulsion at the Sutherlands near here. It was with all the roundup and miracle grow type things. Good luck.

And Becky, yes please find a Alzs support group. It's heart breaking and hard to get through, but they are all going through the same thing and understand.

More "outside stuff" for me today! I'm thoroughly enjoying these cooler days!!!!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Really bad storms on LI last night, hope Clem is okay.
Clem check in when you can so we’ll know you’re alright. We’ll be worrying.

Have a great day everyone. Off to the old fashion county fair for me. Dung throwing, tractor pulls, pie eating and lots of animals. Contests and just good old fashion fun. Lots of goooooooooood food too.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Good morning hotties! Hope everyone's okay from the storms. They seemed to be everywhere last night.

Audrey, I will do my best to get your lilies sent this week. :) How are ya feeling?

Bear with me, ya'll, I'm on DH laptop and I have lost my post 3 times! Just not used to this little computer.

Donna and Joyce, I have not been able to find fish emulsion anywhere here either. The two big strictly garden centers are a 40 min. drive from me, so have not checked there. I try to stay away from them because my checkbook suffers so.

Beck, Hugs! One thing I learned with MIL in her last 10 years was to not take things personally, though like I told you we had the end-stage Alz with total personality change and combativeness. It was hard to see this very sweet, very loving lady turned into such a totally opposite person. Alz is the hardest (and sometimes lengthiest) disease to deal with that I know of. Get any and all help you need, any time ya need it.

LOL, DH is going to breakfast with his Dad and is packing up his tomatoes to take with him. I bet the restaurant is going to love that. I sure wish everyone lived closer, we are getting flooded and giving them away like crazy.

Oh, Louise, Kilz has a newer product out that does not smell. I know, now I tell ya. DH uses it quite a bit when he is painting/hanging an occupied space. That smell will give you a headache usually the next morning. Good luck!

Got to get out and finish up my new brug bed. Just need to mulch it and then start getting ready for the iris coop that is due to arrive any time. Lov ya, Peg

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi my wonderful sisters, the storms were terrible,I went to bed so late last night and just got up, not like me, usually up so early. Have not gone outside to see any damage on my babies, I know there is a ee on the ground. At least I did not get any water in the house. Thanks for thinking about me!

Oh Beckie, everytime I hear talk about your mom, makes me think of mine. It must be so hard to see her like that and you are such a good daughter to visit her often!
And you have a scary pooch too, mine hides in the shower and waits until the storm passes. These days since the weatrher is crazy over here, that's all he has been doing!

Donna where is the fair, can I go with you! I love those things and I am sure you will take your little princess with you aren't you?

That's all for now, I'll go to my Sunny Place later and see what damage if any wasdone to my brugs, hopefully none. I'll see you all later!

MEG, Muchas gracias señorita, you are going to make my DH very happy when I make the recipe, mmmnnn Delicious!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Donna that hosta leaf is incredible and what a color too! I wish we had some storms, we really need the rain bad!
Wow coughing up a storm from all those paint fumes yesterday. I think they call it Kilz coz it kills you! And yeah we should have gotten the fumeless stuff!
Peg be sure to freeze some whole tomatoes for winter use. Just wash and pop em into freezer bags. When you want to use them run them under warm water to pop the skins off and use in your favorite dishes. I make chili all winter long with em.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Mornin Girlies...

TY soo much for the well wishes...you'd think by now.. after 23 yrs of my bro being head injured I'd be an old pro with Momma. There are lots of similarities.. and I try to reiterate..over and over.. how many kids do you have.. etc..... I guess this last week has been hard on me because my back has hurt soo bad, and really I am the only one that goes see her.. so I feel more "obligated" that I HAVE to go see her... my only living younger bro is too busy with his life and has seen her 2 x since she has been in the NH and that will be 3 yrs this coming January...Please don't get me wrong I love my Momma!!.. lol I think ya'll do know that!!

anyway~~~~hehe GOSH... I have to get me some of those large hostas!! I have seen pis of them but didn't realize the leaves were that big!!
Donna... ohhh have fun at the fair!! I love to go and always have to get some cotton candy..yummm... have I missed something?? Are you having health problems? I have a bunch of stuff that need planting myself... if your "friends" were "real" friends they would help you... ahh but alas..lol.. they don't make people like they used to!!

cat... I wish there was a Sutherlands close to me.. but it's an hour drive away... Walmart and Lowes is all we have... we do have a lil nursery.. but I bet it will be 2x the price! We woke to rain.. and I had my mind set I was going to do some digging today... this ground dries so fast.. I may yet get to go out there

Joyce.. I bet that is gorgeous!! I didn't know what I was doing last year when I divided my big ones...I found Daves this March..lol... they were huge!!

Kim... I really like the cooked custard banana pudding the best.. but my DH Luves this recipe

Yeah Louise you be careful.... instead of ordering dog and cat stuff.. you might get sooo high ..you'll be ordering donkey stuff...!!!...rotf!! Take is easy girl... Rome wasn't built in a day...

Audrey... Yeah.. I have read where the grower takes all the leaves off the brugs, to stress it less in shipping.. I thought... OHH That would kill me to strip the leaves off.. but apparently they know what they are going... she'll get big and tall.. and have lots of clothes on before long!

Clemie... you ok??

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Clemen, my senor would not be happy that you've made me a senorita. LOL!
Ladies, I d-mailed Clem a coconut banana cream pie for her DH last night. I did not post it here, because it would take up too much talking space. :)) Out I go, Peg

(Cathy), MO

You mean a recipe for coconut banana pie Peg? Dmail it to me too please!!!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lol no fair not sharing!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Yeah.. that is what I say too...

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

TY Cat.... that is the exact size I bought at walmart for 6.99... NO shipping..lol I failed to say that Lowes did have a fish emulsion.. a small bottle for 6.99.. but I wanted to see if I could find it cheaper.. that way I get to buy more plants..lol

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hi Ladies! Busy here, no time to catch up (it's cool out right now) I'm repotting brugs and will snap a pic of my "gizzard" plant, (it's not what the tag says) Hope everyone's having a great weekend.. Cat, I'm digging allium bulbs because I'm having dirt hauled in to build up around the foundation. I'm afraid they would be planted too deep if I piled more dirt (1-2ft) on top of them. They are hardy here. I have to move a small dwarf alberta spruce some live forevers and probably a Lady in Red Hydrangea, yet.. :( Loving all the pics guys keep em' comin! :) I'll catch up with the thread sometime (I hope!) lol

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Peg, I feel fine this morning! Thanks fro asking! We have beautiful weather here today! 74* now, Yesterday it never got above 74*, and it drizzled all day! Wonderful!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Beck, please check into the support group, my heart goes out to both of you! (((((Becky & Mom))))))) Senora Meggie, :) you're making me want banana something.. mmmmmmmmm sounds cool and yummy. Audrey I loved your pic with the branchy brug, just feed it, it'll be leafed out before you know it, your bed is beautiful...I love Sum & Substance too, another fav is Strip Tease, I'll try to find a pic... It got too hot for me out there, had to come in to cool off.. can we talk gizzard plant again? Guess maybe I saw the wrong plant in Kim's pic... ?... here's what I thought was a gizzard plant... the tag says Fire Dragon, Dragon de Fuego, I thought it was a begonia...

Thumbnail by AuntB
NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Sorry bout the crooked pic... Here's the Strip Tease Hosta.. They've been there for about 3 or 4 years. I planted a new S&S this year, it's kinda puny in comparison to the one I have established, but it won't take but a year or two and they will be in competition, lol.
