Oh AuntB my heart just breaks for you. But you have to think of the short sweet time you had. I know this because I was a af wife back in the 70's and know all about missing someone. The thing I remember the most is that you build a friendship that most nonmilitary will never get to experience.

I got a chicken gizzard in a plant swap, what a strange name for a plant. It is getting tall and not bushing, do I need to pinch out the top?

What a beautiful caladium bulb border.....love it!

I am an mg but honestly I am not too much into natives. I have friends who have very beautiful gardens with natives, and I enjoy them but I am a much more uptight gardner...does that make any sense? Our meetings are funny I live in a rural community so we have farmers and we have people who wouldn't think of using a chemical....it can be pretty funny. We have a guy who does mostly really cool grasses, 2 really native gardeners, a real herb person, me...LOL, and some folks from the city with small yards. We have a really good mix. But have to admit this DG brug/hotties are probably the funnest, knowledgeable group I have met.

Love the caladium border on the last list, column or whatever you want to call this....LOL

Peg, I still don't understand the warning... for saying "hot"??? Guess I'll go look again at your post, but guess I'd better watch what I'm saying. Rub the sty with the end of a silver (real silver) spoon, I've gotten rid of them that way... surgery sounds pretty harsh. I bet you and Keith looked like a pair! lol kim, no chicken gizzards for me, now livers... mmmmmmm. I'm tired tonight, Drew helped get the allium bulbs dug today. We're taking his car for diagnostic check tomorrow.. at least we'll know if he needs a different one. I hope to get some brugs and other plants potted up tomorrow. Donna, you've had about enough rain by now, haven't ya? I'm off to bed girls, can't seem to stop nodding off, nitey nite. It's great to be chatting it up with ya'll.

Oh went back and saw the pics of the new shop, how nice. It has too be so exciting to think about working for yourself! I have worked really hard all my life making money for someone else. Never had the guts to try anything like you are doing.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lol posted on the old thread! Sheesh gotta read first. Here are the pics of the shop. Spent the day painting the windows with the help of my mother in law. Hubby put the tub together and groom table with the help of his Dad. Here are a couple pics, one of the store front...

I too just went back and read your post peg... seen alot worse on here before, I sure hope those posts were also warned! lol!

Okay, I gave up on potting the brugs.... just stuck them in the planter that lines my freeway wall :(
now, if they would just grow 30' tall and hide that ugly wall.... oh well!

My concern is, the wall absorbs heat all day (cement block) sun goes behind the wall pretty early in the day, so the bed itself is shaded... I'm just hoping the heat radiating off the wall doesnt destroy these babies... they are the brugs I grew from seed that Beckygardener gave me.I guess I'll just have to watch them closely for a while.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

I’m off to the zzzzzzzzzzzz’s too. I try and lurk in from work but I keep getting interrupted, phones ringing and people at my desk wanting things. Yeesh!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Yeah me too Joyce, workin for da man....lol. Not anymore! Phyllis, I grow Dats here every year and how big they are depends on which ones you are growing. The white ones single are sprawly and shorter about 2-3 feet here. The double purples are 5 foot here and straight up and I love those. Never grew the yellow. Start the seed in the spring and grow them in the ground they grow fast. The whites reseed themselves every year. You could grow them in pots to alot of people do.

Hey Joyce! Yes, it is a special relationship, I could feel the change in her and Drew could too. He wanted to have more time with her, she didn't have time to unwind and feel her personal self, know what I mean? They are young. It felt like she was kidnapped away from us. We left Columbia Sat around noon and by 11 p.m. she was back in the army in VA. We thought we'd have her for a couple days, so Drew just wasn't prepared, neither was I when they told me "NO WAY" and looked at me like I was a crazy mother! ... but enough army talk, don't want to get "off topic" ;) I think I have a tall gizzard plant, too... shall we pinch? Okay, I'm outta here.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Hmmm profanity for saying hot? I think that must be some kind of auto generated thingy built in to the program. I loved all the plant pics, I did read every ones post. Figures the one day I am away allllllll day there are like fifty posts to the thread. lol

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Those wicked stickers we call goathead stickers. They are horrible.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Wow looking good Louise!!! Got my fingers and toes crossed Anjl : ) Sounds like you ladies need to pinch your gizzards lol!!
Nighty nite sleepy heads..... last pic of the night...think I can squeeze one more plant in???? ha ha ha.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Donna. I am feeling better. Dr told me to take it easy. He set me up with a cardiologist for next month.

Phyllis, I would love to have some purple! Mine are pretty, but that purple is beautiful!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

More chatty Cathies tonight.. but I love it...LOL

Sooo.. are we NOT to say HOT anymore.... we are doomed on this thread!!.. No I think I "might" see where they are coming from.. and YES I have seen worse, and hope they got a dmail too!! They just don't know Peg.. or they wouldn't have thought a thing about it...

Ya know... sometimes IF I have pockets when I go to Lowes.. I come out of there with lil plants.. I don't know HOW they got there...LOL Sounds like we are Hottie Sis's in more ways than one??!!

Why are ya'll talking about all these goodies.. I wasn't hungry until ya'll are making me get up and get something to munch on... well I have to blame it on someone.. Does sound good though!!

Louise.. your shop is going to be the talk of the town!! Just LUV it!!I am soo happy for you!!

Kim .. you have the prettiest flowers... and they are sooo green!!.. do you fertilize alot??

Phyllis.. I started dats and I had a heating pad turned on low and top lights. I heard about the heating pad on one of the threads... anyway.. I started with soaking the seeds overnight with a lil peroxide in the water.. then I waited for 2 MONTHS!!!! They finally came up, but only about 1/2. Some say theirs come up real fast, so I imagine it depends on the age of the seed... BUT... get this... I gave every one away!! can't believe I did that..LOL.. but I got 2 at the last RU.. so maybe I will see blooms before frost

Joyce.. I like lots of the natives.. they are hardy, and grow with lil care.. I bet you have a ball with your MG friends... I would love to sit and talk with a MG for awhile and pick their brain...LOL

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

My DSD and Her DH went to an estate sale and came home with Astilbe Plants....
Said they were growing behind the bushes and no one would miss them.....
So now I have a Pink Astilbe...LOL

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lol. I got my purple perilla when my hubby and I went to an estate sale. She had this perilla growing all around her stone cottage style house and it was jaw dropping lovely. I had never seen perilla (nor known of it's reseeding ability) and asked if I could take some cuttings since I knew it was in the mint family because of it's square stems. I now have lots of perilla all from those original two cuttings, and have given away alot of plants every spring as well. Right now I collected some tropical seeds from Lowes. Duranta with a lovely white edged purple flower.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Morning!!! Aren't we a buch of collectors ; }

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

My goodness, it must be Friday night out for everyone... out in the garden that is. As I soon as I got off work I headed out and now need a shower real bad. Whew, it's muggy.

I received the most delightful package from one of the hosta people in New York today. Bless her heart, she sent me one hosta she had raised from seed, I know that one was coming, but she added another hosta and 15 different packages of seeds off of her own plants. Columbine, digitalis, bleeding heart, penstomen, rudebeckia, celosia (the big cockscomb type) and others I still have to look up. I'm really having fun planning on where to put all of this.

I also went to Lowe's, just for potting soil, mind you, and sigh, came out with two new planters and a "Purple Lady Iresine." Now I get home and I cannot find this anywhere, so I'm not sure what I bought, but it was half price. :))

Any one have any ideas on what this is? Peg

Anyway, wishing everyone a Happy happy hour Friday Night!

Love to all,
Clemen

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)
