Can you believe I fell asleep on the couch while taking 5 min. rest, would still be sleeping I'm sure had Greg and family not dropped in to see if I wanted to go to the Islands for the night, I'll pass..stew is cooking, projects unfinished..lol..

Welcome Portland, yes, we're gabbers at times, at others it's mostly me filling in my workday, will have to import some of Judy's and help her out..it's either no work Judy or not enough time to do it...are you finding it difficult to adjust? You'll get so addicted to DG..great way to enjoy a day, dropping in from time to time to share or just a 'hi'..glad you picked us to come and sit and visit...no nicer ladies you'll find anywhere...

I've a few quilts as well that need finishing, keep saying it will be a winter project but then winter comes and goes and they don't get done...I especially want to quilt the watercolor lap quilt, one similar to Jeannine's..you'd almost think she and I bought our materials aat same time..

Half thru a movie with Julia Roberts, seen it so many times before but will enjoy it, probably only 1/2 hr. left..forget what it's called, it's the one that she pretends she had drowned to get away from her abusive husband, then he finds out she's still alive and goes hunting for her...

Only 1 more coat to the window frames and I can put the insert in and I see that Bernice and Cliff are away, Greg's off boating so will have to wait for a 'body' to help hold them while I screw them to the supports...

Linda, you've wet my appetite, love bread pudding..I've a receipe that I make and it's done in micro, quick and easy..I've no desert for tonight so just maybe I ought to get the ingredients out and make some..no maybe - I will...lol

Judy, sorry to hear about the smozzle with brother and girlfriend..don't you hate it when they try and get you involved...maybe today things will be brighter for them...glad the children are back into school, quite an adventure Jake will have, putting in his last year!!

Carol/Shar is that a feature that came with your camera's or is it a computer program you purchase...love the photo's..maybe that's something I could install at work and take time to play?????

Shar is that a face where the bud usually is??? hmmm

well, back to the grind, sunshine, humidity - won't complain..see too many maple trees taking on fall colors..

(Judi)Portland, OR

Thank you for the warm welcomes.
seedtosser I have been really bad about photos of my remodel but I have been meaning to do that before it is complete. Right now the floors are being replaced with old fir beams from an old factory that have been milled into floor boards. The previous owner had put in those floors that are fake wood and I am trying to restore this 1905 house to be more like 1905. At the same time we are reusing as many materials as possible and hunting in salvage yards for stuff. I am moving in on September 29 and very excited. Last May when the house became mine the first thing I did was to plant tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and peppers. Only one pepper plant survived, and the squash needs to be hand pollinated but the tomatoes are amazing. I only have four plants but there are at least 50 tomatoes. Maybe it is the daily covering of sawdust...

Plano, TX

betty some time let me have your microwave bread pudding recipe--no hurry since i just made some and won't be making it again for a while--but i hate turning the oven on when it is 100 outside (even the tiny counter one) ---got my recipe from dave's on the cooking or recipe thread--very easy but haven't tasted it yet--looks and smells good tho--i am one of those people who cannot leave a recipe alone--just have to make changes-- always think i can improve on it !!
y'all are a busy bunch of ladies!~! i have trouble keeping up with your posts let alone keeping up with y'all

Victoria Harbour, ON

No need to keep up, just a quick drop in for a 'hi' makes us feel blessed....know about the heat thing, went outside and watered, know I should have waited anothe few hours but who knows how much energy I'll have by then...

Thinking I'll try that 'stew' early supper..

Doing touch ups on the window frames, lordy paint takes a lot of time when it's humid, or is it because I'm standing there saying dry/dry/dry???

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thank you Ruby, I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures
Welcome Portland! I'm usually on here earlier than this but I've been getting ready for my trip so been busy.
Nice blended pictures, I haven't ever tried that before.
Oh the dreaded hiccups! NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Betty, the window is very pretty!
You know, there is nothing like a bright sunny day with very loud thunder. It's real humid so I'm kinda hoping it comes this way, but it has to do so before the nascar race starts.
I'll be on from time to time while I'm at my mom's, but once I fly into California I more than likely won't. I'm going to be one busy bee visiting and all. Well fiddlesticks. The dryer is done and I need to make sure the bills are paid up, so I better go. I'll see ya'll asap, I might be back on this evening, depends upon if we go to dinner, which I think we will since nothing is thawed again LOL OOPS! and I won't be home until September 2nd. I'm going to have a great time! ☺

Victoria Harbour, ON

If you don't, have a safe trip Crissy, enjoy/enjoy!

Yes, just went out and closed everything up outside, you can feel it move in, 2 doors up is a family B.B.Q. - they've been out most of the day so let's hope it's almost time to call it a night....in the far back corner there is a baseball diamond/community center and with it being so still you can hear them all day as well, ball tournament,at least the weather hung in for them..

Because I'm surrounded by trees and feel I'm in seclusion I often forget that I'm right in the middle of town...ours were old lots, double lots so much more land and with where I'm situated, you'd never know...

Well, think I'm calling today a 'day'...
for those of you getting a bit of Fay's furry, praying for you...be careful everyone..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Betty but I have just been informed by my daughter more is on it's way. We are all safe, dry so that is the most important thing now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

you know Marion we're all thinking of you all...stay safe .. no chances..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks, no chances believe me on that!! Won't be going anywhere til the rains stops as drive is covered thoroughly with debris.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Do you get hit often Marion? Know this is the season but do the same communities experience it every year..most likely..in my married years we'd spend a few months in Bonita Springs, few miles north of Naples, few south of Fort Myers, loved it there, know each year we'd worry about the damage and never knew what we'd find..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Betty!
I'm glad to hear that you're safe and not flooded out Marion. I guess it's going to come this way, but I'll be gone, Dave and Tiga will be here but that's alright, it'll be alright.
lol there is a bee, horsefly, or hornet in the house, I can't tell what it is, anyway it was flying around the kitchen and master bedroom so I got the fly swat out. It landed in the molding on the door going out to the garage from the kitchen so I swatted it. I hit it but apparently not hard enough, it flew away real slow and now it's just flying around banging into walls, the ceiling, and floors. I think I gave it brain damage LOL!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

No not in this area for direct hits. This is so unusal as it has criss crossed the state so many times and continues to dump rain and winds in a huge path. I see tonight that Georgia, Alabama and some other are feeling the likes of this mess! Know exactly where Bonita is as I spend a many a summer there with my Aunt and Uncle and their children.

Well it has started again after a long lull. Off to bed soon.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty..that program is Picassa 2
A free download from Google.
Just put Picassa 2 into the Google search and you will find the page to download it.

It is an amazing photo editing program.
You go to the Collage feature to make the layered photos.
This is another way to do a collage.

HMMM thanks Carol, will download at work, an older computer there though, hope it doesn't use tons of memory...maybe I'll not take a chance, I'll download here..

Hope Fay wasn't to hard on you Marion, going to check out other threads in hopes you are posting...the sky darkened to black last night within seconds, wind came up , 4 drops of rain fell and it blew over..calling for rain today, we'll see...

Crissy, hope you finally got the brain dead bee...wouldn't be nice if your first swat angered him, he'd be looking for you..today you leave right?

Going to clean craft room a bit, head into town, need wood to support picture frames and then it's home to play for the day...

What do you all have planned, anything special?

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

surfacing... hanging in....

hugs

Victoria Harbour, ON

Nice to see you posting Laura, we do worry about you, although times are more difficult than we can imagine, here at this end, do know we love you, care for you and are concerned..sending prayers for you and yours..may this be a sunshine day...YOU my friend are valued...

Just back from town, purchased a sheet of plywood, had them cut it in half, I took out my trusted saw and cut to length required .. I'm ready with screw driver and srews inside, the plywood will act as inner support, now why does everyone in this community sleep till 11..shucks I need a body just to hold the frame...maybe I'll catch someone going into the variety store..now who couldn't want to help out a lady in distress, and not being able to complete the window project does make me 'distressed' well maybe not.. wish you all lived closer...lol

Crozet, VA

Hi Ladies - Well, didn't have as much reading to do today in order to keep up. I am thrilled to see new people here posting. Seems like some regulars are busy, busy.

Glad your back is better Starzz. I have back aches from time to time and they make a person miserable.

I watered back yard this morning and now it it about time to get up from here and do a few chores. I will check back in later on. Have a great day everyone.

Ruby

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks Ruby,
I have a couple of friends coming for dinner this evening..they want to see the garden..many things are finished though..but the hardy Hibiscus is blooming..I have five of them....and some of the roses are putting on blooms.
Of course still have coneflower and rudbeckia..and all the tall garden phlox.
Hardy plumbago is coming into bloom..and my asters that I grew from seed are starting to bloom.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure Carol, it is still a Garden of Eden...but it does make one sad though that soon it will rest...just finished vacuming basement, that what you have to do when you play with saws..lol..dust/dust and more dust..one day I'll have a workshop built somewhere on the property..

How much fun will that be, having company to spend the aft. - my tummy is hungry, not sure it wants 'breakfast' or will wait for 'lunch'..

Still looking for 'body' to help me out!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I no sooner posted last post that my brother Bernie and wife Charlene dropped in for a visit..ask for bodies and you get them...lol...

She's done fibreglassing and painting of their 58 Chev. - he made back hydrolic unit to cover the truck box so the music system (which blasts one out of the house) can be protected..

Doing fine Betty, still have a slow rain with thunder but we are all okay.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Hi all!!! Love that little shed. The windows just pop it Betty. Very good job. Didn't go to church today. Had to go see someone. Got a hosta and a Galardia to get in the ground today. Going to have low 80s this week so hope to get out to the garden. I redid the left side of my porch so now have to do the right side. Going to put creeping jenny where grass will not grow in fron of the two beds. How does it look?? Hugs BEV
Hope I didn't post this before!!!

Very pretty, now I know why you were out 'rock' collecting..bet you hand picked each and everyone of them...now around the plants is that like a 'pee gravel'???
that will stop most if not all of the weeds..more time left for good things when you are not out weeding all day..

I'm just playing around, nothing major, what I accomplish I accomplish, dark sky has now moved on, back to sunshine so overall it was a beautiful weekend...

Shucks, here I had a full pot of stew and didn't even think of asking Bernie and Charlene to stay, know they were touring, were off to Aunt Muriels and had been to Penetanguishene town dock for breakfast, but, I still should have offered, feel badly, off I go to call Aunt Muriels and see if they are still there, if so I'll ask them all over....

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

No Betty, I have had those rocks forever just now found this place to put them but always looking for more!!!!

Love the waterfall...how high would the total unit be? Did you have access to 'flat' rocks? one year I'll order some biggies and do waterfall install of the 'spray' feature..

was going through craft book and they had a plan for a heated waterdish for outside for the birds in winter so they have something to drink, going to copy, set aside for fall project...

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

That is just three flat rocks sitting on top of a plastic faux rock base that I found at a auction one year. It is hollow in the back so have bricks stacked to support the real rock. It is only maybe 3 ft tall. BEV

This is just about 30 ft away across the front drive from my porch so can see it and hear the water and watch the goings on over there. BEV

Here Betty this shows all across the drive. Part of the view to the waterfall.

I LOVE IT!!! OMG you've a large yard to keep us as well don't you...Sure makes ones day to walk around the garden and enjoy, I just painted the sign white, routered the sides which I'll paint in the green..then will pain a saying or something..Will take it outside, might as well enjoy the day..can't believe it's only after 2:00 almost feel as though it should be night time so, a pleasant surprise still lots of time for playing..

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I have a quarter of a city block from road to road and alley to alley. Bev

Betty, Love the windows! I have a kitchen that has no windows, so I put up a mirror that looks like a window. I am wondering if it would look strange to paint curtains on it, hmmm. Thanks for the idea!

Bev, lovely garden, I have grass envy! We are still trying to get grass to grow on our builders clay soil. Yesterday I worked on the watergarden in the front, moving all the rocks. I am hoping to get down to our local river and maybe get some rounded river rocks to replace the middle ones but for now it will stay this way.

Friday, I finished the other side of the walkway. I got a deal from Lowes one day, $20 for about 50 plants, including 9 of the reblooming azaleas! It has taken me 2 weeks to get them all in the ground (well, I still have 3 azaleas for the other side of the house front). Needless to say, my back is killing me! I am just going to keep watering for a couple of days!

Terri that's a lot of work as well, love what you've accomplished so far, my back's not hurting but I'm tired/tired...looks as though you've all the equipment to help make garden life easier...now that's a bargain of the century and here I thought I was doing ok with shrubs between $3 to $5 each..you've almost 'red' clay right..do you have to add much other soil to it for gardening purposes or do you just plant what enjoys the clay?

Often wonder what will occupy our days in a few months, all our gardening will be done, perhaps in many of your communities you still will be able to garden??

Girlfriend Ann just dropped in while hubby was fishing, brough me some birthday cake left from DD's party, the live in Toronto and she's been working long hours, then here at the cottage, working again and said she's totally exhausted, in the next 4 or 5 weeks they'll not come up on weekends except for Christmas holidays..will miss her visiting..we're same age and both showing wear and tear..lol...

Did have my sign out to paint..doing green trim, but, think it will have to wait till next weekend..not up to it tonight..

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, Yes I have red clay in some areas and sand in others. Right above the watergarden is a hill of sandy soil. I amend the heck out of every planting site with peat moss and compost because I love so many flowers, I just can't limit them. Plus if I didn't a lot of the plants would just drown! The only thing I watch for is plants that deer love because they will strip everything down. I had some lovely large plantings of sweet potato vine and they ate all the leaves, even though it was surrounded by Datura and Castor Beans!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Betty, Dave's still home, the bee can be mad at him. Seriously, I think he died last night, I didn't see him at all this morning before I left. I love the windows too Betty, they look really good!
I made it to mom's, long drive and I didn't take the time to stop and gamble. I ate lunch at one casino and it was very small, and they didn't have the machines marked so I couldn't tell if it was a 5 cent machine or a 5 dollar machine, so I just left. We went and ate in Oklahoma City at this new restaurant on Western Ave called Louie's, it was very good. I wanted a beer but mom and Lynn don't drink so I didn't. I'll have pleanty of those in California!
Love Ya'll!
