Twins!

Ronnie, that Akatsuki no Umi is a beauty...that is one of the first JMGs I grew and loved its deep blue color.

Here is another fave blue of mine, Blue Silk, the first flower of the vine.

This blue is of the fertile flower of the willow dianthus JMG I am growing out. I like the sky blue color and even color distribution on the corolla.

Thumbnail by

This blue ray JMG makes quite a statement on the trellis.

Thumbnail by

I like this surprise JMG...it appeared with my blue ray vine and I guess I must have mixed the seedlings when I was planting them out. sigh

I think it is Oriheme, however there seems to be more names for JMGs with this color pattern, yes?

Thumbnail by

This little flower reminds me of the vanilla bean specks you see in Breyers vanilla ice cream. LOL

JMG Q751 is a bit variable this year; some flowers have the expected red speckled color pattern like in this photo, and other flowers have few to no red colors. I guess it pays to plant at least 4 vines to ensure you see a "normal" flower.

Ronnie, beautiful no Umi and I really like the bat leaf south sky.

Joseph, love all your blooms, they're gorgeous.

Joseph - This white one with the colored throat here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5433795

May essentially be the same as the Takii Heian Kaori
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/51605/

and the Sakata Akatsuki no Hikari
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/84616/

I have noticed that the "Heian Kaori" seems to produce the lighter smaller colored throat and that the Sakata "Akatsuki no Hikari" usually produces the larger stronger colored throat...

The Oreheme seems to essentially be the Sakata "Akatsuki no Hikari" although there may be individualistic variations that may distinguish certain sets of particular plants...these may or may not be peculiar to a marketing name and / or distributor ...

I've been wondering if these entries should be combined at some point...as there is generally an equivalent cultivar available from Takii and Sakata...and many smaller companies got there equivalent stock from either Takii or Sakata at some point...

Ronnie and Joseph - Oh my! You two must really be enjoying all these beautiful blooms! I sure would be!!!

Ronnie - Love your Yuuzuki! So lovely! I also kinda like your Bat leaf south sky. Very cute! What a name!! Do the leaves look like bats? Never heard of it before! Very interesting. :-) And I am always a fan of Akatsuki no umi! Who wouldn't love this blue???

Joseph - I just planted a seed for Blue Silk. Something about those blooms ... I really love them!!! Forgive me for being forgetful or stupid to ask the next questions:
Your willow dianthus JMG - does it have the willow leaves? I love that color of blue! I can't even describe that color in words! Wonderful!!! And my other stupid question ... What is the name of this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5433806 Are the blooms small?

The color combo on the blue ray is so striking! Is it a large bloom? It looks like it is a good 5" at least!

Your Akatsuki no Hikari (or whatever it is) ... very, very nice! Lovely white blooms always brighten any vine and that throat is such a beautiful contrasting color!
Ronnie - I was looking at your 3 blooms in the photo here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/127322/
What a wonderful photo! I just have to ask you ... what is the structure that the vine is climbing on?

I look forward to more photos from both of you!

I came home from work yesterday and spent 7 hours outside planting in my garden. Mostly after dark. I love the rain! I have a rain poncho that works pretty good! But I just don't care whether I get wet or not! The rain is so refreshing after all the heat! Maybe I was just looking for an excuse to play in the rain! LOL! I had quite a few potted plants (overdue for the ground) and just went on a digging frenzy! The tropical storm was moving in, so my area was getting some showers, but very light at that point. The nice thing ... the temps had dropped considerably and I took full advantage of it! I also finished clearing out the old dead MG vines and got new MG seeds planted. I figured with all this rain coming, it was a good time to plant! And ... I've got the Copper Sulfate close by! ;-)

They canceled school today because of the gusting winds. Seems riding the school buses can become dangerous with winds over 35 miles per hour ... so we had the first day of school yesterday and already have a hurricane day on the second day of school this year! Oh brother! It's going to be an interesting Hurricane season. The actual hurricanes that hit the east coast of Florida usually start right around Labor Day. I don't think this year is going to be an exception ... I just hope we don't have another year like 2004. And if so, I hope my '04 new roof holds up well.

I just looked out my French doors and the wind is really whipping and the rain is coming down so hard now. I wanna to go out and play in it! LOL! I should've been one of those idiot weather chasers. Then I could get paid to play in the rain! Ha, ha!

Y'all have a lovely day! :-) I look forward to more beautiful blooms!

Very lovely, Beth! I love the Hattie Bell. I don't know why, but I was thinking the blooms would be white. Is it an I. nil or I. purpurea?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Hattie Belle is a nil. I'll look up if it's supposed to be purple or white.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Beth - Your have a genuine Hattie Bell. Your color is correct according to PlantFile. I have some seeds from a trade. After seeing yours, I want to grow one, too! It is also listed as a JMG. Hattie Bell seems like an American name. The information on this one is a surprise all around! Thanks for sharing your beautiful bloom, Beth! I love it!!!!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

It's a prolific bloomer, and I'll have tons of seeds!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Great blooms Beth. I love the one out of Festival Mix. The Hattie Bell is wonderful and beautiful color on mauritanicus

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Great photos Beth!! I love Ron's Turkey 842 purpurea! I like the purpurea, sometimes they seem to take a back seat to the nils, this is unfortunate, there are some beauties out there!!!

Becky you are always so complimentary!!! I love it!! The structure that my MG is on is our pergola, my husband built it for me a few years ago when my dad became very ill to cheer me up, a complete surprise, one day I came home from the hospital and he was building it.

OMG!!!! Ronnie that pergola is beautiful! I love the swing, too! Girl ... you've been holding out on us here! LOL! What a great area to grow MGs!!! It's paradise! :-) I am always looking at structures! I love the wood finish on yours! Your dh did good, let me tell ya!!! :-) :-) :-)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

AW thank you Becky!!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I love your pergola, it would be the perfect "hideaway" to escape for an hour!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Beth that it is too, especially when the honeysuckle is blooming!! Yummy!

To the new thread # 14

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/893018

Hey Ron, thanks for the ID on my Heian Kaori! You're right, the lavender tube is more dilute than the Akatsuki no Hikari. I was able to unwind the vine from the trellis and isolate it from the blue ray JMG so now I can collect a clean batch of seeds and not a mix.

Becky, the willow leaf plant has not flowered up yet but has buds. Soon, soon I think. The non-shredded flower form is small, but each one is perfect, opens perfectly and is about 3 inches in diameter. It is a very bright blue with red in the tube. That blue ray JMG is a big flower, at least 5 inches in diameter. I am impressed such a large flower can open fully when I see it.

Beth, you have some knockout flowers there! The festival unknown shows a nice color!

Joseph

Becky, forgot to answer your q: The Romaji name of the blue speckled dai flower that was on the seed packet is as follows: 'Ki Chirimenba Shiroji Murasaki Fukkake Shibori Daizaki'. It is all Greek to me.

Thumbnail by
scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Wow! Can we give it a nickname?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - Wow! What a name! I can see why you call it Dai. I wouldn't even try to pronounce the entire name. Smaller flower with a BIG name! LOL! And your Blue Ray is wonderful! It looked like a large bloom on that one! Nice!!!!

Hey Beth, let's call it Steve. LOL
