Morning Glories 2008 #13

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh Emma, That is so pretty.
I think everything in those boxes came from you although I did have something similar to the purple stripe last year in those boxes, so it could be a stray seed. I started very few of the seeds I had collected myself as I wanted to plant what you sent me.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Emma. Beth love your purpley bloom!!!

Hey Beth! It's great to see you posting! :-) And lovely flower you have blooming! What I. purpurea cultivar is it? Rather unusual looking.

Holly - 3 more lovely blooms from your garden! I, too, think the purple bloom is pretty neat looking! You are getting some nice variations on some of your vines! :-)

Akatsuki no Murasaki again, looks good enough to eat! LOL

Emma and Joseph -

Regarding "Chaen no Tsuki"

The Romaji translation is:

Tea Plantation Month

The name is not a 'literal' one...

I was told this referred to the time period when the tea was harvested and the people were seeing alot of brownish colored tea...generally thought of as a happy time...so the name is yet another 'poetic type' of name that alludes to a state of mind elicited by the tea harvest...

The alternate literal translation could include:

Tea Garden Moon, but unless informed otherwise I think the "Tea Plantation Month" is the intended meaning, although 'Tea Garden Moon' does 'sound nicer' to my Western mind...if you browse the Japanese sites they also 'twist around' the Western names...sometimes accidentally through translation difficulties, but possibly also because certain translations may be more pleasing to their perspective...

TTY,...

Nice Joseph!! ♥ The Blue Ray!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Joseph, I love the star ray pattern. The no Mai is absolutely beautiful. I
wondered what all the fuss was about with this one, now I see. lol

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - Your blooms are eye catching! Love the Akatsuki no Mai! Neat color block pattern. Very, very pretty blooms!

Thanks, everyone! I am waiting for a flower that has the complete flower pattern of the lower right part of the flower like the seed packet shows.

Gautier, MS

Beautiful blooms everybody!

You've got some awesome ones Joseph.

A few for me today...

This is from a few plants Emma sent me earlier in the spring, it was a mix she had. I am sure she will ID it for me. I love it!!

Very nice blooms Ronnie, I like the blue star a lot. They're all pretty.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Ronnie - I looks like that long wait for your vines to grow and bloom produced some awesome blooms! I really like the Lavender Silk! I love the white throat and the white border ... such a delicate looking bloom with some outstanding markings! Love all your blooms and photos! Keep em coming!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Helena and Becky! Yes Becky it did take a long time for me to get blooms but I am still only getting one or two per plant. I am hoping the ones in the ground will produce better. Seems I had a bad batch of dirt or something this year and was plagued with pest )o:

Gorgeous blooms Ronnie.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Lovely Ronnie... they are striking... my personal favorite is the one Ron ID'd as Shima...blue with interesting shades.. all of the shiney ones have a pop to their color.... I'm impressed...
do you keep all of them growing to themselves.. apart from one another... Gordon

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Gordon...I have most of mine in pots so I can bring them inside to be able to save some seeds before the frost hits.

Thanks for the IDs Ron...I was thrilled with that LS bloom...to plant files it goes!

I got a blue dai JMG that appeared with the white dai JMG today. I like it but was surprised to see it.

Oh my goodness, Joseph! Is it on the same vine as the white Dai? Really, really beautiful blooms both of them!!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Nice blooms Joseph.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Beautiful Dias Joseph!! Like Becky asked are they on the same vine?

Thanks, Becky, Jackie and Ronnie! I checked the container and there appears to be 4 vines in it, so I am pretty sure the blue dai JMGs are on a separate vine from the white dai vines. Now I have to figure out which vine it is and try to unwind it from the others. Pray for me LOL!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - If you need to mark the blooms for seed collecting, try the straw idea. It worked really well for me. I just have to remember to write down what each color of straw corresponds to what bloom/vine. And it does NOT hurt the plant. I just mark the blooms, not the vine. It helps me to locate the seed pods later, too.

I'll give it a try, thanks, Becky!
