Gardening Photo's - Part 31

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I, personally, like know-it-alls!!

:-)

Esp. when they take quality pictures to post.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

lol Thanks Willie!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

You all have been busy again today. More nice pics.
Onewish: lots of pretty blooms and the way you photograph them makes the colors so vibrant.
Nan: a very nice find out at the beach, glad you got a pic to show us.
Grampapa and JoAnn: I like the long shots of your gardens. Both are very pretty and show a lot of work and care. I like to see other gardens so I can get ideas for my own garden. Thanks.
WillieB your lovely little bird wading area is really a restful sight, I can see why the birds like to hang there. That pic of the oaks and old tree fort brings back memories of one my two boys had when they were growing up. Do people do that any more, I hope so.
Candyce: I like your color combos too. This time of year phlox really can steal the show. We have an odd situation here, a mini water shortage, enough to make some blue spruce go brown at the top but it has been damp and cool for many days. Not much rain water but lots of surface and air moisture which is starting to make everything a little icky now, all types of fungus and weeds.
Here are a few things from today. Some on their second bloom cycle, some just getting going and some just changing a bit. First 2nd go for 'Heart Attack'

This is a new honeysuckle this year. It is blooming for the first time, it should have some orange in there somewhere, will see if next year it has the right coloring or was mislabeled, still is a pretty one.

'Blue Hills' salvia on it's second blooming too.

My salvia May Night has whimpped out.
Might be too close to the wandering Nastuerteum climbers.

and finally a long view of my circle garden. Ignore the weeds please. Lavender was recently cut back and shaped. This bed is only three years old and many of these plants are new this year, replacing some roses that got badly wind burned last winter. Most of the delphs have or are getting ready to bloom for the second time.

WOW How beautiful.
I love the trellis in the middle.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks JoAnn. I really need to get out there and tie down that rose before it gets any taller. This is a color combo I meant to post with the other pics. This is the blue and yellow/orange bed.

LOVLY

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Jan - you said the helenium did better once you moved it - what was the difference between the two beds?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

How is your helenium doing Anita?
I have rearranged mine to try and guess the heights for this border, but have a few short ones in back yet.

not well Al - what are the conditions for yours?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I don't have time for much at the moment. But....
Grampapa.... I agree with everyone else, your yard makes the rest of the neighborhood look pale and bland. I love it! especially since that's a large enough area to take care of, that's for sure!!

Willie, what a great waterfront. I looks like what should be a bird paradise. If they don't like it in that birdbath with that scenary... then they won't be happy anywhere

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I had time for only one picture out in the field today, and there was really one one area that I wanted to get a picture of anyhow.

OMG what are those.
They really are impressive in such a large mass.
Thats the gardners 3 "M "mantra ,Mass,Many,Money.
Glad you can chec in RC.
It's dark out and no birds yet.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Nice field of yellow RC - what is that?

Anita - Mine are in full sun, it's pretty heavy soil. I have a few that I put in light shade and they really grow out to the light hurting their form. They like it fairly wet.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Wow! Beautiful field RC. Need to know like everyone else, what is that?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OK RC Here are my Conc d or's

I have saved RC's field of yellow flowers on my desktop.
Makes my heary leap everytime I turn on the computer.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Anita, less clay, more sun. I think it's really the sun.

RC, you could get lost in that beautiful sea of yellow.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I went to divide the peach hibiscus that has a red plant in there also, and look what I found.

Never have seen these before, but I bet they are native to the southern hibiscus farm that these came from ......

I thought they were kinda "way cool"

I have a large run of milkweed in the "Outback" that is just about to come into fragrant bloom and the loosestrife (invasive) is now blooming.

Am I weird for liking "weeds"

Close up of the Loosestrife, which, I actually like, but hate that it has taken over everywhere, and not just locally.

Of course, growing in the Milkweed is some kind of Vetch (I think that is what that weed is), but, I really like the flower, which reminds me of Bachelor's Buttons. I am used to the flowers on Vetch to hang down a cascade of trumpets.

Maybe this isn't Vetch?? Leaves sure look like 'im.

Here's a nice QAL though, I didn't get it whilst the center flower was still fresh and red.

Here is a shot of the swing (pardon the no cushions, it's been raining) which sits hidden in my favorite clump of oaks in the Outback. This is the swing I mentioned in the Tree Fort Tree posting.

If the mosquitoes aren't out, it is a really cool area to sit on a hot day.

Willie, I have that tiny fungus--it's Bird's Nest--& it grows in the mulch. Here is a yellow glad opening.

Thumbnail by ROBINDOG
Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Sure sign things are too wet, I bet. I like the way that Bird's Nest Fungus looks, though.

Thanks! for the ID

Adding:

A neat group of fungi, for sure.

I think this particular one is Cyathus striatus

http://www.hiddenforest.co.nz/fungi/fun/birdnest.htm

Further adding:

I bet with all the rotting wood left over everywhere around from our October 2006 record snowfall, the spores for these are running rampant.
