Morning Glories 2008 #12

Lastly, another image of Janett's Chocolate JMG. Really perky flowers even in a breeze.

No offense to rh3708, but I like yours better, Joseph! Save me some seeds, pretty please?

Thanks, Nichole. I was sorta expecting to see the version posted in the PlantFiles database but agreed I like this one very much!

Why don't you post your great looking I.batatas flowers into the PlantFiles here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/1634/
a clear closeup of the sepals would also be very helpful...

Do the multilobed leaves in the photo with the Ipomoea purpurea Crimson Rambler
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/HollyAnnS_1218208743_368.jpg
belong to the Crimson Rambler (?)...if so they are relatively rare as Ipomoea purpurea most often has heart shaped leaves, but much less commonly multi-lobed leaves...if a multi-lobed purpurea > X-mas list please...

The darker edge on these leaves (in this particular case) is a sign of excellent health...

This blue one with the fuchsia folds here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5386215
IS Special...X-mas list please...

Joseph - Excellent looking bloom here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Gerris2_1218220256_741.jpg

All of the blooms that I have seen so far of Asuka have had solid corollas with no white edge
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=1774866
which matches the pictorial in the catalog, but I like the look of the one you have there...X-mas list please...

sometimes Asuka seeds have thrown large flowers of similar colors...sometimes with a star pattern...Asuka Not's...(? Heian Akathuki ?)

Asuka was one of the types offered by Yamato-Noen...

Stunning Joseph, of course the 'Akusa 'is a keeper but that "Janet's Chocolate" is a real contender in my eyes!!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Your blooms keep getting better and better Holly.

Joseph, love the Asuka and the Shiborizaki

Gautier, MS

Wow, great blooms everybody!!

Joseph - You are sure growing some really stunning vines/blooms! A very, very nice selection of cultivars! I don't know who your "source" is, but they are doin' ya right! Absolutely lovely all of them!

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Joseph - Nice bloom here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Gerris2_1218220148_880.jpg

what color are the seeds (?)...dark or light (?)...my guesstimate would be dark seeds based on the bloom colors...

most likely candidates are:

Tie Dye including blue, purple and pink
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/121125/
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/58653/

Hamaginga...This is the source where Burpee got the seed they westernized as Blue Tie Dye (A Sakata product) doomed forever to be called a 'hybrid' instead of the Ipomoea nil that it most definitely is...
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/171384/
many people had gotten blooms that looked exactly like the catalog pictorials...which looked exactly like the pictorial on Hamaginga...

Seiryu...a possibility

Ron - What are the characteristics of a Tie-dye vs. a Blizzard cultivar? They both looks similar to me. I am not sure how to distinquish one from the other.

Thank you everyone for your kind words about the MG flower photos, I am equally dazzled by them!

Ron, I think the Asuka link you listed above that most resembles my Asuka is this one:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=2641165

The seed that gave rise to my vine came directly from a commercial foil packet obtained in a co-op for JMGs, and I took a photo of the packet and the tag that represents what the flower was supposed to look like.

Here is the other side of the packet and tag.

Hey Ron, The blue striped JMG I called Shiborizaki came from a commercial JMG mix with that name on it...the seeds were dark colored. I am growing a light colored seed vine that came from that same mix and am awaiting the emergence of those flowers.

Here is the Shiborizaki seed packet to which I referred above.

Hey Joseph - Yes,the Asuka packet you show is the Yamato-Noen foil packet...and the plastic marker shows a bloom without the white edge...

The Shibori-zaki has an interesting packet pictorial and a number of variations have come out of that and other similar packets from other distributors in Japan, although rarely is something marketed that has not already been offered by the Big Two...namely Sakata and Takii...

Thank you Ron for the info, The Ipomoea purpurea Crimson Rambler has heart shaped leaves. The multi-lobed leaves in the background are from another MG. I will try and get some seeds from the blue ones with the fuchsia folds for you. I would be more than glad to share seeds with anyone interested but I honestly don't know if I will be able to separate them at seed harvest time as these are so grown together it's very hard to tell what is coming from where and I just haven't had time to tag them.
I propagate and grow Ornamental Sweet Potatoes every year and get a few flowers from time to time. This year I have more blooms than I have any other year.
Thank you also for the info on the dark edge of my leaves. A great relief.
Becky, Thank you also for the info on the Sooty Mold. After reading about it on the links you provided. I went out and checked all my plants for bugs and did find a few on one of them. Luckily it is one of the plants that sits all alone.

Every-ones pictures are so very beautiful. I had no idea that there were so many different colors and kinds of MG before I came to this forum. You all have really opened my eyes.

Looking very pretty even with the JB damage to the leaves. I collected seeds from these last year but not sure I'll even bother this year. They self seeded so well. The butterflies really loved these.

Holly - Nice bloom combos! I, too, was amazed at all the variety in MGs when I first came across this forum last year. Because they grow so fast here for me, it's instant gratification. LOL! It's so interesting to see what the next generation of seeds produce. It's hard not to get hooked, isn't it? LOL!

I love sharing and trading seeds. :-) It's always nice to get something I haven't grown yet! And I've met some really nice folks here on this forum as well! Thank you to everyone! :-)

Gautier, MS

Beautiful blooms Ronnie and Holly. I'm amazed at the different ones too!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

More gorgeous blooms Ronnie and Holly.

Here is one I grew last year and wanted to grow it again to increase my seed supply and to savor its Robins egg blue colors. First flower that opened today.

Here is the Sacred Sepal Shot of this beauty.

Fujishibori simply takes my breath away. Ahhhhhhh

Here is the Blue Ray JMG but it is making fewer rays. Still dazzling to see!

Thumbnail by

The all white JMG I grew last year and regrowing this year has been showing a slight touch of yellow in the rays. It is hard to capture in a photograph but maybe it is visible in this photo.

Thumbnail by

Lastly, this is the vine growing with Shi-Kanoko which was grey last time but now is making nice blue streaked flowers.

Joseph I love this one... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5391632

I am growing another blue one of yours and hope it's that one...does it have a name? I would love some seeds if I didn't get that one from you yet!!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

N I C E!!! ... such pretty blooms all of them, Joseph! I, too, think the Fujishibori is a drop-dead gorgeous bloom! Soooo lovely!!! And that first one you posted - the roobin egg Blue - is a color I rarely see in MG blooms! I bet it catches your eye right away! Keep smiling and taking those great photos!

Thanks, Ronnie and Becky!

Ronnie, I will look for the original packet to see if there is a name written there. I seem to remember it having a kinda long string of Romaji.

Joseph

I found the packet and its name was described as "Kifuiri Semiha Agaishima Tairin".

Now that's a mouthful!!!

Agreed, Ronnie...I tried translating the Romaji using a Romaji-English translator on the web, but was empty handed regardless of which translation web site I used that handled Romaji-English languages.

luvs - This is what happens to Joyce Cobb when it becomes very dilute
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5390107

Joseph - These light blue ones seem to have come out of some of the various the Ukigumo packets offered
