Jackie & Emma - What a wonderful MG to start this new thread! This vine is also endearing to me ... the color and shape of this bloom definitely warrants attention. One of my top 10 favorites.

Hmmm ... shall we? I would love to hear what everyone else's Top 10 MGs are?

Emma, your blooms are especially lovely. If I just get 1 open bloom, then
I am happy. Very disappointing yr for me, bloomwise. I haven't quite given up
hope yet.
Your blooms so far have been really special Ronnie, as if to make up
for the long wait you had to endure. lol

Here's an Ipomoea tricolor that I like very much, growing from seed I obtained from Emma in a trade in 2002. It has a nice evenly distributed pale blue between the darker rays, with the classic yellow tube. This is the first flower from these vines this year.

Check out what Xiong's Chinese morning glory is doing: the freaky streaky picotee dance! I have a couple flowers like this pattern and have marked them so I can see if the seeds from these flowers will give the same pattern next year.

Lastly, another Ipomoea obscura 'Keniaki'. Every flower opens up to perfect flowers like this one.

hahahahaha Becky I had the same reaction. I was photographing the tricolor flower and as I walked by Xiongs and saw those freaky flowers I froze in my tracks as if frozen in carbonite. Now that's a serious reaction hahahahaha!!

Oh yeah! Joseph, it would've stopped me dead in my tracks for sure! I'd be cleaning my glasses in a hurry thinking they were dirty! LOL! That is one amazing flower! You definitely have to hand-pollinate that one and grow it again! WOW WOW WOW!!!!

Joseph, never seen anything like that border on Xiong's, simply amazing.
Your light blue tri-color is beautiful. The Keniaki is a stunning yellow, almost
a gold.


Candy Pink, flower no more than 2 inches across. Doubt if I will grow
this one again.

Jackie - Your little Candy Pink is a sweet little vine, but I hear ya on being a bit disappointed. I grew those Ensigns out and never got a single bloom to open completely. Such a waste of hanging basket space! lol

YAY! It looks like it might rain tonight afterall. I sure hope it POURS! This heat is just unbearable! I am soooooo loooking forward to cooler weather. Something in the 80's or 70's would sure be nice. whew ...Come on rain!!!

Well ... no rain ... Grrrr ... my dh says it is supposed to be moving in today and all day Saturday. We'll see.

This is so funny ... I got an open bloom on the Ensign MG! LOL! LOL! LOL!

The plant has had it. Seriously it's about DONE, but what do ya know ...

Oddly these plants don't vine. They are more like 12" tall upright plants. Don't resemble a MG except for the pretty little bloom shape. It would've looked nice had the plant not pooped out. I may try them one more time. But in a pot instead of a hanging basket. I do love the blooms. Would probably look amazing if the plants were lush and green covered with those little tri-color blooms! :-)

And not to gross ya out ... but it also got hit by the rust and it looks like this now. You can barely see the bloom I just photographed at the top of one of the plants. LOL! How ironic is that!!!

Each stem you see is a different plant. I wish Beth was here to give us some insight on how best to grow these ...

We had a ton of rain last night, accompanied by a terrible lightning storm, Becky. I love that yellow Morning Glory!

gardenpom - The yellow MG is Joseph's baby (not mine)! LOL!

Not a drop of rain here! We saw it moving in and the lightning was unbelievable! Downright scary!! But no condensation to speak of. Maybe tonight or tomorrow, I hope!

Me, too, hoping for rain! Supposedly it is going to rain this afternoon/evening and tomorrow. At least that's what my dh said was on the weather channel. :-)

I haven't posted any pics of these lately. I think I have more of these than almost anything else and they are wonderful bloomers.

Take a look at those leaves. Is that what you call Rust? I'm seeing it on some of my leaves. They just look dirty and the edges are dark.

I have a couple new ones. This one I grew recently and wanted to grow it again to figure out the seed mix: Shiborizaki. In "real life" the flower tends to want to flower on the purple side, but photographs on the blue side.

This one, 'Asuka' Japanese Morning Glory, is one of the largest flowers I have seen on vines. It was so deeply purple in low light it almost looked black. Definitely a keeper!
