Good Morning.

Oh my goodness, What a nice surprise Carol. Love the color of your balloon flower!
Wondering, is it a a relativly new plant? I mean I waited for 3 years for a new plant to finally bloom.
and oh my well worth the wait too!

Liz, We love you my friend. Sending hugs your way!

giggling Ves, Take my camera with me too. Other night left it outside on truck! Yikes good thing it didn't rain.
LOL, problem I seem to have is battery life, LOL DH always says I am the most unorganized organized person!

ROFL...what can I say I try hard at that.

Well, I am home today! Doc appts. So already up and dealing with laundry too....Wah, it's still raining here.

OMG...here is a story for ya! Last night, Dh was out for the eve, had a meeting! So anyway, I got phoneidess. Browsing through book to see who I haven't talk to in a while, came across the friend of mine who was a childhood friend, remember she found me in January?
Anyway, gave her a call, LOL, said well haven't talk to you in 8 months and it's excaclty 8:00! She was very happy that I called as it happened to be her birthday!! How funny the way things happen. We had wonderfull chat...exchanged e-mail addresses with promise to send pics and such. Who knows maybe we'll get together sometime.

Well Ive got to run for a bit, Hope you all have a good day.

Hi Laura...Good to see you! Cross posted. Glad you are feeling better too.

Judy, meant to tell you, grandson Noah got poison oak AND poison ivy..just covered it it, felt so bad for him, doctor told him everytime it got to itch, or sore, to take vodka out and swab all the areas, so Sunday morning I take the bottle of vodka out and a glass, Jeff (DS) is on the couch looking at me, I pour vodka and say as I look at Jeff, "Can't start them drinking early enough!" he choked on his coffee lol..anyway, tell Steve if he's still bothered, to try the vodka..tell him I said NOT drink it, just swab it! ...are your Dr. appts. in preparation for the kids returning to school? Guess you are like most of us mothers (when we had school age children) glad to see them return to school so you can get back into a normal routine...

Laura, we'll all be praying that DH gets this promotion, now wouldn't that be an answer to your prayers...so glad you are comfy warm with your coat..know it was sent with love..maybe that's why it's so warm...glad you are feeling better...before long our gardens will be dying off, some of us will be shovelling snow and you'll be the one entertaining us with all of Australia's summer beauty...

Bev,

Your "Surprise Lily" is also called "Naked lady" and also "Resurrection Lily".
I think the latter name suits it well--as all the leaves grow in Spring and then die back to nothing--and then in August comes this "naked" stem from nowhere and presents us with these beautiful blooms.

I dug piles of these Lily bulbs up from the house next-door before the new owners moved in, as they gave pretty much cut everything down and dug everything else up. YUK!
I shared gallon pots-full of these "Naked Lady" bulbs at the last Plant Swap. I have 3 pots I kept--and they are also blooming.

Here's a picture of them from 2007. I think the new neighbors will have a lot of "surprises" next Spring. The mother digs by hand all day to clear off areas--but one has to dig down to almost 12" to get to the bulbs of lilies.....

So pretty...wonder why sometimes there are flowers we just cannot grow regardless how we try...morning glories, sunflowers are my downfall...roses were but this year I've done well with them...anyone grow butterfly bushes???

(Cathy), MO

Good morning all. Lovely pictures! It's supposed to be cooler here this weekend and I am off tomorrow, so hoping to get some stuff done outside. IF it doesn't rain!

Do any of you who have wisteria ever propagate new starts? If so, do you do cuttings? And could I trade you something or pay postage for some? The last 2 I bought that were supposed to be the lavender ones, turned out to be white!!!! I want purple!!! Picky aren't I??!! :-)

Hope you all have a good day

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

You read right over the top of it Ves, I do the same thing. It is a Four O'Clock like these. Yes Betty I grow Butterfly Bushes. I have lavender and a pink one.

Betty,

Both Daylilies and Oriental Lilies are perennial--and they will propagate quickly.
You do not have to dig them up.

I presume they are planted about 5"-6" deep?

Nice weather we are having this past week--on the cooler side--about high 70's low 80's. Nice "breather".....
I think what works for all your Gardens "up North there" is that all the flowers get some cooler nights to catch their breaths. Sometimes here--the nights may still be in the 70's and 80's and very humid. NOT very refreshing!

Do any of you grow this plant? It is called "August Lily", is very fragrant and kind of looks like a Hosta. It is starting to bloom at this time...

Here's a bloom on my double Purple/White Datura.

Betty--did the seeds I sent you ever germinate? If so--how is yours doing?

Here is how sad the M.G. that sits in full morning sun looks. I was going to yank it--but now that the weather has been a bit cooler for the past week, it has perked up a lot too.
I still don't like it !

The other day, I collected almost 1/2 cup of seeds from it.

Took this picture just this morning. These are the blooms on that M.G.

I think it is a "Blue Rocket" MG. Anyone know for sure??? Bev??????

Wow to the August Lily...beautiful...Gita, just been overly busy this week when I get home, had wanted to tour the garden and take photo's of different leaves that have not yet bloomed which I feel are from your seeds...will try tonight..

Poor M.G. sure was baked by the sun this year...

Have they closed the garden center in your Home Depot...they have here..usually look for sales but found none....only place that I was excited about was Canadian Tire (much as your HD)..

Glenview, IL

Woohoo eyes are just dazzeling with all your flowers!!

Betty, too funny about the vodka. LOL, I will remember that if we ever have this problem and again.
Yikes so sorry grandson had Both poor baby must have been miserable.
Dh is just about cleared up...had to take a series of meds. and a topical steroid.

Ok on to next appointment. Breeniegirl. all caught up with shots, etc,etc..Tall too 5'7! But doc thinks she has reached her full height.
LOL, Betty last year I took the kids to doc and forgot to get papers, so i had too quick have them faxed to the school nurse or they weren't going to register! So this time you bet I got papers in file for registration day.

...and was thinking, if i loose job at least we all have had checkups. Dentist is next, then I will not worry for a bit.

Ok break over got to run,
Can't wait to see the next wave of blooms!!

Gita...Your Datura, just knocks me out...WOW

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

No, Betty. Our Garden Center is still open. Not too much moving there though. Who wants to plant anything new in this weather?
Mostly they carry larger pots and container gardens this late in the season.

****Did you know that HD guarantees ALL it's live goods for one full year? You can get a full refund if something dies--you burned up all your Palms because you put them around your poll--you went away and never watered that tree or shrub you planted, etc.....
IF you have your receipt! MUST have that! SO--save all your receipts and write on them what it is you bought for easier spotting. Never know when something will give up the Ghost 10 months from now--OR--that a perennial will not come back next year. However--you MUST dig up the plant and bring it back to HD if you are looking for a refund.

NOPE! No sales here either! The Nursery people that handle all the plants for the HD's here--just toss them all down "the chute" when they get the slightest bit "shopworn" looking! A CRIME! I tell you!!!! A CRIME!!!!! Call the Sheriff!!!!!

Gita

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Gita, I don't know about your MG but the August Lily is a hosta. They named it AL because it blooms in Aug. It is very fragrant. I have 4 of them. It is an old cultivar Planteginea. Look in the hosta libaray. There are several planteginea hostas. Guacamole, Venus,Aphroditie,& maybe Fragrant Bouquet and I think Royall Standard. Idon't have a good pic of mine. I will get one. Bev

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now Gita, why wouldn't they put the plants out for low prices and let someone enjoy them??? can't believe what some stores do...I just threw out about 8 receipts but they are for Canadian Tire.. that's a lot of receipts to keep..did purchase 3 shrubs last year at Norm's gallery for $24.98 each..sure wish I'd have kept those receipts and the roots are dead..would assume by now if they didn't sprout even a leaf or so they are a gonner...your post brings a question, are you all organized and do you keep all your receipts neatly organized somewhere???

Moving us over everyone...to a nice outside garden where friendships are cherished and flowers bloom...the garden of life...

Betty--

I will answer your question on this Thread because it would seem out of context in the new one....

I keep all receipts if I know it MIGHT be important to have them one day....Geesh! it's NO biggie! Just stuff them in an envelope in a drawer!

Of course--I might buy only 3% of the plants and shrubs and stuff that YOU buy! I also almost NEVER eat out--cook all my own food and soups, etc. You say you don't cook....
What's in your fridge on any given day?

You must have another source of income (maybe Roger's pension???) if you can always blow your paycheck on all the stuff you write about......Maybe you sell a lot of your crafts??? Maybe people pay you a good amount to attend your weekly classes?
Sorry to sound nosy! None of my business......Just wondering......
You don't have to reply....

OK! Now I am going over to Post #56....
