She's about to..... #10

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

yep sure does! Hugs Donna, I hope your Dad heals quickly! It is so hard when the parents get older. So much worry! When my Dad was ill the last two years he lived far away in Florida. I had to tak FMLA for six weeks to help care for him. I hope his spirits are good!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Thanks Louise, He’s doing well and can’t wait to get out. I’ve been lucky so far they still get around well on their own. I’m sure it’s going to get harder, seems not that long ago I went through this with my Grandparents.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Mornin Girlies....
Donna... soo sad for your Daddy.. but TG he is going to be ok. I am proud of you for making the trip to see about him!! ....Sh'es looking good now!!
Louise.. you too!! That was a loooog drive to be with your Daddy.. but you never "know" when your last time is to be with your parents.. and I say take every chance you can grab to be with them!! JM..... I have heard they are picky and hard to keep alive more than a couple years... is that true??
anjl.... still waiting on a pic so I can steal ideas..LOL.. I am wondering if it might be better to plant the brugs in the ground... especially you being in 9b.. and keep the JM in a big pot???? Would you lose all the leaves on the brugs in your zone in winter??

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am going to the round up in Tyler, I will be staying with BJ, in tool texas. It is going to be so much fun, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone here.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Wow, that's beautiful Annie

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Annie!! You're back!! And look at those blooms!! WOW...Hope everything is okay, kinda wondering about ya, lady :))

Moodeen, you really have things going on at your house. I used to sew for the highschool drill team and did some weddings but the last hurry-up wedding with nine bridesmaids cured me! They moved up the wedding twice and the night before one of them put her high heel through the skirt of hers. I cried at that wedding. The bride thought I was being sweet! I was just so glad it was Over...

Donna, glad to hear your Dad's doing well. We only have DH's father and my mother left, but still sometimes I tease them that they are not allowed to get sick at the same time.

Louise, when's the grand opening? We need some pictures so you can show off your new place.

Clem, I hope your daughter enjoyed her internship. What is she interested in majoring in college?

I have one lace-leaved JM that I have had for three years in the ground. This baby only grows about an inch a year, then it got broke off in an ice storm. So, it's smaller than when I started. But I think the leaves are so pretty.

Well, guys I have to get back to work... Grrr. I'll be glad when vacation time is over or I just need to learn to say NO more. Peg

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I agree Becky, my Dad passed away from septic shock in June. It was really hard for all of us. Our Mom was gone since 86. It was a very treasured time that I spent with him. I stayed there 6 weeks last april and two weeks in October. Definitely treasure your parents!
We are getting ready for the demolition and construction so I will post pics as we go along.

You and Beckie and Aunt B are so good at catching up with all of the threads and everyone. My darling baby has no clue what she wants to study. I am the one pushing her. She loves art, music, science and math, so good liberal arts school will do. Let's see where and if she gets any scholarship money, counting on that, otherwise, oh my, you will never see me posting ever. i'll be working 24/7 for sure!

Annie, send me some of that brug fragrance over here ok, to Ny, that is lol, love the pics, Clemen

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

I meant to say Meg! on my first sentence!
Louise, I lost my dad 14 years ago and it is today and i miss him so much and dream of him tucking me in bed! Cherish your memories, that's all we have, Clem

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks to everyone for the concern. He is home tonight and doing very well.
Louise, so sorry you lost you dad, I’m glad you were able to take the time off to spend with him.
Peg, I know you are taking good care of the loved ones you still have with you.
I have been blessed to have both of my parents here for so long. I can’t even imagine life without them.
You are right Clem, cherish the memories, and spent time with the ones that are with you.

Can’t wait to see the start of Bubbles and Bows, along with plants I am a big animal lover.

note the mutant marigolds behind the potted plants. 10 cent packet I though would be nice tiny edger marigolds....grew three feet high! Must like all the fertilizer and potting soil run off lol.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

The short flowers in pots are lavender vinca and pink geraniums. The taller flowers in the middle are balsam. Highly recommend them, I only planted them once lol. They reseed all over. I just pull what I don't want. I even have some growing in a three inch tall saucer. They will grow anywhere lol. the ones you see right there are actually growing on the edge of the patio in the cracks lol. Their only drawback is that once they start going to seed they get ugly and I just cut them down. They grow so well in pots though and when in full bloom are really pretty. The other bonus is if you grow very packed borders like mine, they will grow as tall as they need to, to get to the sun so they are great for filling in those areas where you might have spaces.

have to share another recipe...just love it! Very versatile too! Enchilada casserole. one 29 oz can enchilada sauce green or red ( made it twice so far one with green one with red). 1 can crm of chicken soup. shredded meat ( i used chicken in the green and chicken and chorizo in the red so far.) shredded cheese and corn tortillas. I use the broth of the meat to dilute the sauce a little and add flavor. Spray 13x9 pan and spread a little sauce (mixed enchilada and cream soup) lay 6 tortillas and layer meat and cheese and anything else you like, I even used corn in the chicken chorizo one. spread more sauce and layer again ending with tortillas and sauce on top. sprinkle with cheese and cover and bake 1 hour 350. Yummy!! We served it with fresh garden tomatoes, onions and sour cream with spanish rice on the side.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Mornin..Hotties...
Ty Louise... hmmm balsam...never knew what it looked like.. but I do like it!!.. Course pink is my favorite color!! I have had very lil summer color.. so this year I am trying to remedy that!!I have a few yellow and was surprised how the eye just goes straight to the yellow!! I am not "smart' enough to want a "yellow" or "pink" or "red".garden.. I like them all mixed up!! Kinda cottagy.Mine are sooo lil and I am jusy now starting to get color.. but it is soo nice to be able to look out my kitchen window and see COLOR!!..LOL
Speaking of kitchen.. that recipe sounds good too!!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Good morning hotties, it is chilly in NY and it feels like fall is approaching, yikes, not happy over here today.Anyway, Louise that recipe sounds pretty good, need to try it soon.

Have a great Sat everyone, will be back later tonight to chat a little. Clemen

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Good morning, Chilly here also in RI, feels good for the moment. I’ve never tried balsam either and will add it to the list for next season. It looks very pretty and seems like a nice filler.
Louise, The recipe sound wonderful, I have 2 choices, either I invite myself to your house for dinner or forward to my DD in hopes that she’ll try it and save me some. I suppose I could cook it myself, but unless I have company coming that is not likely to happen.
Becky, I do the cottage look also, I’ve tried for a formal garden but always end up looking very country. If you or anyone else wants seeds or pieces of anything I have just let me know. Most of my perennial are native to the NE and I’m not sure how they would fair in the warmer zones but you are welcome to try some.
I’m off to get some work done, I will mow the lawn, I will do the laundry, I will clean the house. I will not lie on the beach all day; if I keep saying it maybe it will happen. Tee hee
Have a great day everyone.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Yay it is raining here finally. I do have to say that I love annuals too! most of my fillers are annuals and I change em from year to year and alot of my annuals are reseeders which is even better. One of my new favorites this year is scarlet milkweek, the tropical kind. Someone sent me seeds and I started them late and they are blooming. Large plants and such intense colors. I will post a pic soon!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Hellooo Hotties.

Louise, I have a variation of that recipe but my sauce is cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, a small container of sour cream and a can of Rotel tomatoes made with flour tortillas and put cheese on every layer. I've only made it with chicken so far

Here's another dish you might like: Tamale pie casserole:
In large skillet, put 1 tbl oil, 1 lb hamburger and 1 chopped onion. Cook until lightly brown. Add 16 oz stewed tomatoes, 16 ounce whole kernel corn (undrained), 1 can kidney beans (drained), 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 tsp cumin, a small can of black olives, 2 tblsp chili powder, 2 tsp salt and mix well. Mix in 1 cup yellow cornmeal and sprinkle grated cheese on top. Cover and simmer on low for 20 minutes without stirring. This will firm up and cut like a pie. This is very rich and filling, great on cool days and can be frozen for leftovers.

Donna, go lay on the beach. :) I'm about ready to hire somebody to help get my housecleaning caught up and send all the laundry to the cleaners. How it ever got this far behind is a mystery to me :) During the winter, my house stays clean, darn it.. I'm sitting here and I see bulbs in one corner, plant markers on the fireplace mantle, plants, seedlings, cuttings and epsom salt sitting on my kitchen table, pictures I need to put in this year's garden album, etc. And that's just one room! Oh, well. I'm headed outside anyway! LOL.

Have a good weekend everyone! Peg

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh Peg, thanks! I am definitely going to try that one out! You know I am Queen of the casseroles, they are just so easy to make when you are busy! It sounds yummy! Peg, my sunroom table is a mass of fertilizers and bug sprays, it looks like a chemistry experiment about to happen! I also have a pile of water jugs of various description that I am saving for my winter sowing projects! If you have not tried winter sowing then you should, it is so fun and easy!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Okay, Louise, I did not make it outside yet. Would you define "winter sowing?" I have started seeds in the winter to transplant in the spring, is that what you mean? I've had mixed results as some flowers just do not like to be transplanted, period... .

Did you start your balsam from seed? Also, I am interested in seeing that milkweed.

Beck, girl, you need a pink garden spot!! I can see a climbing pink rose, pink daylilies, pink echinacea and pink annuals in your future. I do have a purple garden that I started for my daughter. Purple russian sage (another reseeder), persian shield, some purple daylilies that I just planted and purple coleus. Pretty much the rest of my beds are totally mixed in colors. The white impatiens bed was DH's idea and he is insistent on that one every year. So, I planted the passies there to give it some more color.

And, I am wanting to get a herb/cooking garden started but haven't decided where to put it yet. And I still have to get that old iris bed moved, grrr. It's just impossible to do any major digging with the heat we are having. Peg
