Thanks, everyone!
Now you mention it, Gail . . . I do pluck alot of suckers from that one!
I have noticed on a few AV's, that I either didn't put enough soil in the pot or something . . . the bottom row of leaves end up resting on the rim of the pot, and turn brown and icky. What I did yesterday was cut some small styro plates to make some homemade rings for those few. . . we'll see how that works!
August Blooms Part 1
Well, I had this long post made telling everyone how I loved their plants and I hit a link and went to another webpage and lost the whole thing. Arrrggh...
Lin, love the Columnea! Those yellow blooms are great! I had cuttings of that one once, but they rotted. Columneas don't do well for me anyway, which is frustrating. I had seen pics of the Chrysothemis once (not yours, but somewhere else) and didn't think it was a particularly attractive plant. Yours, however is gorgeous! Must have just been a bad pic of the other plant. LOL Annabelle is too funny! I think I'd just keep her like that and see how tall she'd get. Before I clicked the pic or read what you said, I thought it was some kind of mini palm tree. LOL
Most importantly, Happy Anniversary!!! I hope you both had a wonderful day and many, many more to come!
erica, love that white throat in Strep Shenandoah Shiloh! Strep Michael is quite the stunner as well!
Gail, Sinn Xanadu x self is fabulous! And I love Colorado Sunset. Dandy Blue's tuber is HUGE! LOL
av_ocd_girl, Sinn Pink Sparkler is awesome! I love dots!
Nancy, I love all those micro Sinns! I think they're probably my favorite of all the Gessies!
Brenda, Sinn Bonnie and Clyde is so pretty! I really like white in a bloom with a bright color. The white just sets it off. I once lost an auction for a Sinn called Miss Kitty (or something like that) that had white in it like that one. Can't remember the name of it now and can't find it either. Maybe Bonnie and Clyde will take the place of it. LOL That Sinn cardinalis will take over the world, if you let it. I kept cutting part of mine off and it just got bigger! LOL
Susan, you have a bunch of beauties there! Doesn't matter if you know the names or not, they're still lovely!
Syrumani, I love Rob's Chilly Willy! If ever I get the hang of AVs, that's one I'll be sure to get. I think Strep Night Beacon just soared straight to the top of my wishlist! Just look at that white throat!!! Yum!!
One of my Strep Cherry Pie x self seedlings bloomed. For no good reason, I had hoped for something spectacular, but I didn't get it. :oP Big floofy blooms, but they fall over and look too much like the mom plant and they have a faded area at the bottom of each bloom. Oh well... I'll give it one more chance, as there are a lot more buds, but if they don't improve greatly, out this one goes. I've got several more in bud, so maybe they'll be something special. It's so fun growing out seedlings, no matter how they turn out!
Wow Amy, I love that Aeschynanthus, whatever it is! I have a couple of the micranthus and pieces of Rasta is still hanging on (would have survived more than 2 years if I had not neglected it ... acutally forgot about it and it was hiding behind something on the deck! :( I think I will take some cuttings of what's left and see if I can root them!
I like the looks of humilis too ... that one looks like it's going to have an upright growth habit instead of hanging/trailing.
I think I will go look around my jungle and find my Lipstick plants! I think I might still have a straggly/ratty looking yellow columnea (the one in my very first post) somewhere too!
Oh, check out some of these Aeschynanthus: http://www.gesneriads.ca/genaesch.htm I would love to find the A. chiritoides! And a few of the others as well!
we have the best forum for pictures, ladies!
Wow Gail ... Those are Awesome! You are one great grower ... of all plants! They are really amazing! I am hoping my H. imperialis that I got from you will bloom before long! That is one really pretty flower. Is it fragrant in the evening? That second plant is really gorgeous too! I love the looks of those leaves as well as the blooms! I don't know which one it is though. If you post pic's of both the blooms and then the whole plant with foliage on the Hoya forum I'm sure one of the expert hoya growers there will be able to ID it for you. It may be H. australis but there are so many it seems to me with that name, I really don't know what's what.
Here's a close up of one you sent me that was ID'd on the Hoya forum as H. australis. It hasn't bloomed yet.
I am going to really check out your foliage and then go look at all of mine.............for the hoya australis...............
Wonderful pictures!
Amy your Aeschynanthus look amazing...Lin and Gail you both sure can grow the Hoyas..I am getting better with them but after seeing yours mine pale in comparison..lol..Great Growing!
LOL Nancy ... I don't do anything with them ... they just get sprayed with the hose a couple of times a week! They love the humidity down here.
Mine actually are doing alot better this summer since I hung them all outside Lin..You are so right about them loving the humidity..they actually are growing and a few have bloomed even..lol..sorta hate to think of bringing them all back in again for winter,,even tho I know the time will be here before I know it..oo how I wish I lived farther south like alot of you..I try not to envy anyone much ever but I really DO envy you southeners climates in the winter!!
Nancy, I lived in zone 6 for 11 years and froze my bu** off! (LOL)
LOL Gail..I was thinking the best thing ever would be to be able to winter in Texas or Florida with you or Lin and Summer in Idaho with Brenda or Up in maine with Kim..Nice Winters down South and Beautiful summer temps up North...ahh that would be Heavenly : )
Now I could buy into that scenario in a hurry!!!!!!!!!!
Can I come Nancy!?!?
I was born and raised in Illinois. One thing I really miss is the Lilacs. Oh, how I love Lilacs. I planted one here about 10 years ago and have had 1 year where I got meager bloom. It just doesn't stay cold long enough for them to do well. I planted some apple trees too.......same thing. If I get a dozen apples I feel lucky. Some years there's none!!!
They're already getting some 'cold' weather up north. I heard it was 40-50 yesterday morning. NICE!!!!
Yeah Gail......I remember when I lived in Tx.........going outside in the morning to those 90 degree temps. That's when you know you're in H*LL......when it's 90 at 8 a.m.
And 102 at 7:30pm!
WOW!! Syru I knew it was warmer down south during the Summer but I don't think I could ever handle it that Hot..ugggg
Edited to add..sure you can come Roxy..North we go..lol..

I do miss Denver weather more and more . . . and on nights when I've had a drink or two, I even miss Cincinnati weather . . .
But here on the coast of TX. it is not that hot and WINTER ROCKS!!! Just a couple of really hot months, but I love Fall, Winter and Spring! All year gardening. We rarely freeze.
I miss the winters living here... and hate the heat... I don't know how do it in Florida.. I went there and almost sweat to death...LOL Nancy you and Nick could always come to Virginia... We do get hot but we can play all day in the house... You also can come Syr... I'll leave the light on....LOLOL Boy when you leave the light on here it looks like the cops are searching for drugs...LOLOL Sally they can make room for you in the car also when they come... Oh you have to forgive the zoo that lives here..LOL 7 dogs, on inside cat,one out, 1 parrot who is the smallest in the parrot size...LOLOL but she has a mean bite...LOLOL I had her wings cut today and boy did she tell that lady off as I held her... She then gave me this eye that she was going to bite me and I looked her right back and told her to try it...LOLOL She did not and instead say Thank you. LOLOLOLOL She can talk some things and always at the wrong time like when the phone rings... she yells to tell us it is ringing... like duh we can't hear it..LOL
Ok this is a book now but y'all come down...
Hugs,
Susan

I was just surfing the 'net and I saw this on a strep site - "These plants are all covered by Plant Breeding Rights and cannot be propagated without a license."
How would a person know if something is covered under "plant breeding rights"? Is there a list somewhere?
Not sure, but I think just the large outfits put patents on their plants. Like Optimara Violets and Dibley Streps. Just out of curiosity, which website was it. Patenting a plant is expensive.
Roxy
You know, I think it was the Dibley site . . . although, it seems to me I did see that on another site recently, too. I wouldn't want to put a plant on the marketplace if there's a patent . . . not that THAT would happen this year anyway!
I can stick any leaf I want without fear of reprisal. They are talking about big vendors, etc........ Even Lyndon Lyons grows Dibleys, Thompson, etc..............
I had always heard that it was okay to propagate as long as it was NOTfor resale. It is illegal to propagate and sell a plant that has a patent but propagating to make new plants for one's own enjoyment should be okay. Don't know for sure, wonder if there is a site anywhere about these laws?
So a two-bit little person like me should be ok, then . . . I am definitely not a big vendor! lol ^_^
It will probably be a few months before I even try to stick a strep leaf anyway . . . although I'm not so hesitant on the AV's!
Hmm. Maybe this afternoon when I'm not so "busy" (HA!), I can search for such a list . . .

Emily is a cutie. Reminds me of that Buttercup wildflower we have here in TX.
Syru: That is a really Beautiful Strep! Is the name of it Emily? I love the white with the pale pink and yellow! Really nice one! I can see the tinges of pale pink ... Love it!
Beautiful bloom you have there on Emily Syru..Love the pastel shades she has !
Thanks, everyone! This is one that I got from Gail, and survived the incident!
I couldn't find anything in PlantFiles, but here is a link I did find on Google . . . http://store.orchidenterprise.com/strep-dilbys-emily-starter-plant.html . . . I'd say it's a match!!!
