Phyllis, so glad you're back! ☺Yes, I think we all got a "little" rain, some more than others. I was wondering who was caring for all your planties while you were away, did your stepson water them for you? I have no one that can water for me, I went to Dallas for one day and it really hurt the garden.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I don't' think he did so it was good we got rain...he said the fountain was not working right was shooting water over the side of the pond into the yard but then he also said he filled ti back up it got down to almost the filters .....grrr ...would have burnt up the pumps.
but long story there with him so will leave it at that and just ask for some heavy duty prayers his way.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Sure thing hon, prayers being sent your way. Good to have you home!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Hey Becky Þ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LOL

I'm going to make my list up today sometime LOL have been out pulling the weeds that took over the terrace while we were gone and hope to get some canning jars today too as we have toms ...almost a 5 gal bucket full to make up some tom juice etc and maybe something else to bring for trades ...not sure yet have to get my head in gear still after being gone and now gettin things cleaned up again. *sigh*

and it looks like my daughter got the job down in Huston with the company (moving up the ladder) so she will be starting down there again sometime in October then both her and DH to be will move down there.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Phyllis, did you have to brag about the tomatoes? That is not fair, you were gone from home and not tending your tomato bushes and still have tomatoes. Mine were so over it way before now. I am hoping for some nice ones in the fall. I started some of the cuttings from the best bushes before letting them go to the way of the drought. Those are looking pretty good now. I don't get too many in the fall, but what I get is nice.

Charlene

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Is ther time to grow a second crop of tomatoes in Texas. My spring planted tomatoes did so bad this year. Plants are long gone...
What type is best for fall?
Linda Kay

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Charlene...I still have maters...nananananana!!!..LOL SMALL but still good

Phyllis... well the "tongue to you too!!..lol Congrat on DD getting the job!! You mean you only have a problem getting the head in gear AFTER being away?? hmmm I have that problem ALL the time..LOL

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Linda Kay... I think you need the maters in the ground by Aug 1st in your zone.. in order to get any before frost... maybe even late July for your area. Here it is Aug 15th

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh well. I will try again next year.
Thanks

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Linda if you get plants already started you may be able to get some before frost. look for early ones

mine have been in the ground and going since spring we just kept them watered to keep them alive.
plus they are in a spot that they get sun and shade since the spot I wnated to use was bamboo roots.

I would get some plants and try it you are zone 9 so maybe they would do good and give them tomato food to help them along.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks, I will take a look and see what is available here.
Linda Kay

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Ya'll already have a "have" list? How do you do that this early. Are all your plants already ready to go? I'm still trying to root stuff. Also still trying to figure out what to root. Are you sure this can't wait a year!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Nope....can't wait a year...plan's already in gear...

I haven't listed any trades this time because I want to have a lot of time to spend chatting with y'all and getting to know you.

In the meantime, I have taken 3 puppies to our vet to stay until Sunday or Monday. The puppy he treated last Friday is fine, the 3 we treated here are NOT fine, including Lily, although she is in better shape than the other 2. So, we have four healthy, active, growing puppies and three that are not so good.

In amongst all the other things happening in our lives Ken was going to work in Terrell and be home only on weekends. Our friend Brian lost both his parents within 8 days of each other last month. Brian had been the primary caregiver to his parents and was staying with them at their house in Terrell. Now Brian needs to move back into his own home, but it is in bad shape, so Ken was going to go over there and start fixing things.

Last Friday we got the call that Ken's mom had fallen - she has fallen multiple times in the last month or so - so now Ken is in Azle, working with his brother and sister to try to find a solution to Mom's living situation. We had offered to have Mom live with us, but anyone who has been to our place knows how hard it would be to do that. The boys have decided that the thing to do is to rent a 3 bedroom 2 bath house for their mom, sister and brother-in-law to live in together. The problem with that is that the sister is not physically strong, nor is she mentally/emotionally able to render aid as needed, and her husband is totally self-absorbed and worthless. It's a big old mess, and all I want to do is go fix it, but that is really beyond my power to do.

Ken is still going to repair Brian's house, AND do all the things the boys need to do to take care of their mother. On top of that, Ken's brother has a rental house in need of repair, so Ken will work on that, too.

So, Ken is gone. My friend Kathryn will come feed and water the plants and animals that are here until Saturday morning. But then she has to take her mom home to Bay City and stay with her for 2 weeks. Her mom was in the hospital for nearly 2 weeks and Kathryn has been there taking care of her. Kathryn came home this past Sunday, bringing her mom with her. I was going to her house and watering her garden while she was gone. Also, while Kathryn was gone her husband had surgery and was being taken care of by his son and other relatives. Kathryn has to take her mom home and wait until the follow-up appointment with the cardiologist at which time her mom will be released to drive. Her mom lives out of town, so driving is a necessity for her.

I am going to Nadine's tomorrow and will go to the trade show (Nursery/Landscape) in Houston and try to relax and take a deep breath. This may be a real stupid move on my part, but I need a break!

I sure hope Ken can come home no later than Friday.

Say a few prayers, OK??

M

Maggi, my heart goes out to you. What a load for you and Ken to handle all at once. I will certainly keep you both in my prayers and hope that things get better soon. Have a great time with Nadine and we'll look forward to seeing you at the R.U.! {{{HUGS}}} Karen

I am wanting to have a co-op with daylilies. I have purchased from American daylilies before and have had very good experiences with them. Most of my daylilies came from them. I don't want to deal with shipping, so I am only going to offer this to the people who will be attending this RU or the Arlington RU so I can deliver the DL's there.

I have a list with forty different daylilies and the break-down of costs in a word document. I have photos of the daylilies with it. I will offer this co-op to nine other people. If you want to share with someone else, you may, but my payments will come from nine people and I will deliver to nine people only.

We will purchase 10 of each daylily listed and everyone will receive 40 different daylilies. These are single fans, but they are very large and healthy (from my past dealings with them).

The cost will be around 75-85 dollars per person depending on the costs of shipping. I haven't requested that info as yet since I need to first know if nine others want to participate.

If you are interested send me a d-mail with your address and I will send you the word document so you can open it and read all of the info and see the photos. There is no picking and choosing on this co-op as I feel that it would be easier to handle it if I just get the required minimum of 10 of each daylily ordered. You may make trades amongst each other if desired, but to keep it easy on me, I will only deliver to you and you will have to handle any trades that you make from there.

Just send me your e-mail address if you want to check this out. If more than 10 people want to participate, I will only take the first nine to send in their request and payment.

I will determine the exact cost of my shipping and post that amount as soon as I know that there is an interest.

When you d-mail me your e-mail, I will e-mail you the list and you can open it. I don't know how to send it in a d-mail as it is very long. My infor includes information on the plant as to rebloomer or not and whether it is early mid or late season and a photo.
