East Texas Fall Round Up, Saturday October 11th 2008.

Snort, I am a notorious 'softy' for animals, in distress or otherwise.

Yeah, I kinda figured she'd be staying with me when they were all about a week old. She's not the best example of the breed physically, but she sure is a good example of their 'heart'.

Humble, TX

I told you Becky that I might be lurking...you can try and tempt me, but I am still saying no (for right now.)
Tabitha
P.S. I like the sound of that "dog house" green house. That would be the perfect size for me!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

weeellll..... you're gonna need it if you don't come... the "dog house" that is!!...hehe

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

OT: This is our greenhouse as of April 11 shortly after we assembled it. Even in cool weather it could get really hot inside during the day. We just draped the cloth part of a canopy over it. We have since put the canopy together and stood it over the whole thing. since our daily temps have been over 100 (105 today) I have not gone near it. Hoping it will take care of my prize tropicals this winter. Costco has it on sale once again for the same money $549+tax+shipping. Was the most for the least money I could find. Actually made by Rion. Comes in two boxes KDF. 8x10. We put new carpet scraps inside and then 12 sq ft of concrete pavers for heat. I think it will be pretty good. At least better than the garage.

Now I can't remember if it is 8x6 or 8x10. I think 8x10

Cute greenhouse, Christi. I may have to join Costco just to shop online!

.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

That is cute Christi, I will save my pennies! I am finding more things in my garden to share than I realized I had, and may have more yet. I am excited to see everyone again, and meet some more new ones!

Maggi, I have a Lily too! My oldest Boston Terrier baby. Lily is a great name! Can't wait to see you Friday {{hugs}}

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Christi.. what I'd give to have a greenhouse that size!! It is soo neat.. I have to get started on my dh.. cause I am SURE I will need a GH before the first frost this year....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good evening. I told my hubby I was going to the round up, and he told me to drop him off in Austin!!! LOL.
I have my son to watch my Dad for the weekend, so it looks I will be able to join you all in Tyler. Still looking to see what I have for plant trades, but I know I can come up with something.
Linda kay

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

UMMMMMMM I may not be able to make it after all. I will know more in a couple of weeks. Brother was suppose to take care of moms house and dogs while she is in Europe, but he has decided he wants to go to Iraq as a Civvy. If he passes all the tests this week he will leave August 15th. I am so sad.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Darn, Tia! Is your brother in the military or just wants to go?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

No he will be going as a mechanic on the trucks and such. None of us, Mom his girlfriend or me are happy about it, but nothing we can do.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Tia.. well I hope he won't pass the tests... hehe.. what an awful place to want to go to!! I can see ya'lls distress.. I would be the same way!! Maybe ..even if he goes you can find another way to be able to come ! I hope so!!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

there will be no one to take care of mom's dogs. i will have to she will be gone for 3 weeks. We will see this weekend if he passed or not. Lets hope not.

Tia, I looking forward to meeting you and talking plants, chickens and such. I hope things work out for the best.

Today is David's (ddtx) Birthday. Happy Birthday! I've put a big bow on some rain and sent it. You should get it any day now;0)

Happy Birthday davis. have a wonderful day.

Just wondering if I can bring homeade pickles to the swap? I read where one could bring tomatoes, cucumbers...

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks guys for the B-day greetings. It has rained or misted off an on all morning. Not very much but it has cooled things off a lot.
The gift of rain would be very special, bow or not, just more of it to revive the poor plants.
Pickles would be a good swap. Got some of DmoonD's jelly and salsa and love it. Salsa about gone as it is just right spicy for me.

Hope to see many friends at the RU.

I just recieved the sad news that Lovelyiris' brother-in-law passed away yesterday. We need to keep her and her family in our prayers.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

So sad to hear that...Sending prayers to LovelyIris and her family.........

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear the sad news, we will have them in our prayers.

Tia, have you thought of leaving the dogs in the kennel for a few days?
Linda Kay

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, good, LK... you're back home... how was your trip?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh gosh there is sally may, sassy, smokey, boomer, and rusty. That would cost a fortune. Then I would have to load them and unload them. Sally and sassy would be my problems, but I dont have a car, only a single cab truck.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear about her BIL, my thoughts are with the family.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My trip was fine, Because my back injury was on the job, it is workers comp, and they insist that I see my doctor every 3 months, so we go to San Angelo, spend the night, have a great meal at outback steakhouse, go shopping at hobby lobby, and come back home! Not a bad trip at all.
Linda Kay

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok ladies I am going to try to make it. I hope to get someone here for that weekend to take care of the animals. I do so want to come and just get away with a bunch of garden heads, he he he. if I am able to make it, I might be able to bring some chickens also.

Welcome back LK, glad your trip went good and you go to go craft shopping.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Tia.. how about the son.. did he pass?? Hope NOT!!..lol still hoping here that you will be able to come!!
Sooo sorry to hear about lovelyiris loss of the BIL... I have been praying for the whole family.. it's never easy.. but the LORD knows best..
Linda kay... what a nice lil vacation... ohhh outback.. mmmnnn!! My dh has been on WC for 32 years!! They have tried to get him off.. but since he can't work.. they have to continue.. and he is past working years..

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

we crossposted...LOL YAY!!! TIA!!.... what kind of chickens.. lol the fried kind or the biddie kind??

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They told me I can remain on Workers comp, till I am at legal retirement age, and at the rate they keep raising that, I may be on workers comp for awhile... it was a very big pain in the back end, getting workers comp approved, but all is going smoothly now.
Linda Kay

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

son,???????????? I think you mean my grandson that will be 5 sept 1st, his mom and her b/f was SUPPOSE to move out here in the 5th wheel, but things have changed. So far they are not. Time will tell. I will move mountains to be there, but if i cant get anyone I have to take care of moms place so she can have a good time in Europe, its her B-day present.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL Tia.. maybe I got confused..hehe somebodies son was going to Irak...?? ANYWAY.. glad you are getting it worked out!!..lol ....what kind of chickens??
Linda Kay.. he got his approved back in the 70's and I imagine it was easier back then.. but he has had 12 back surgeries.. and many others that I "think" might have been caused by his fall. have back problems too.. so I can relate to the pain!! He is going to get the med pump implanted cause he is still hurting BAD. I am getting steroid injections.. we have an appt with the Dr. on Aug. 21st!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh my gosh, I had one back surgery and that is enough. I cannot imagine having 12 of them!!!
I do hope he finds relief with the pain pump.
Linda Kay

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

My brother is going to Iraq. He was suppose to take care of moms house while she was gone. But that has changed. So we will see.

Puppy update:

When Pam (catlady) and Lorraine came to do the seed flats with me, we noticed a couple of the puppies having problems using their hind legs. Pam said it looked like a neurological problem.

She was right. Some of the puppies are displaying symptoms of low-dose pesticide poisoning. They have not been kept in their pen and have been laying up at the side of the house, right up against where I sprayed with Bayer Home Pest Control (9 month control of insect pests), the active ingredient is a pyrethroid called B-Cyfluthrin.

We think what has happened is that they got it on their fur and as they played with each other they ingested some of the stuff, even though it was NOT freshly sprayed.

We took one puppy to the vet and he gave it a shot of Atropine and sent home more Atropine for us to administer to the other pups showing symptoms.

They are all penned up now, no more free-ranging for the little ones. The vet said he would expect them to recover completely.
