I agree Debbie.. you are right.. forgive me if I stepped on anyone's toes.. I guess i have always tried to be a "pleaser".. and believe me it has more than once come back to bite me.. or as I said earlier... stuck my big ol foot in my mouth!!

(Maggi) Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I am right there in the 'Foot in Mouth Club' with ya Becky!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

As I said before and will say again we do not have to worry about putting anything in stone just yet we have 2 months before the RU

I personally would rather we just deal with trading plants or whatever you have to share in a trade and such and talking plants, getting to know each other more and share ideas.
Not everyone had the money to go out and buy extra stuff to bring for a door prize if they don't have extra plants besides once we get the trades going you might not have room for anything but plants for trades.

So basically I guess the simple way to put it is I am not planning on doing door prizes this time so I will not be bringing anything to put in so I will not get anything from it.

Oh I'm so glad it's going to be in Tyler this time. That's a little closer to home for me and I think I can make that RU also. I promise this time to be a little more organized. I was like a chicken with my head chopped off at the last one in Jacksonville. I had a ball and got lots of wonderful plants and a nice door prize of potting soil which came in VERY HANDY!

I didn't know how everything was done and didn't have the plants marked with peoples names on them. Boy was that a mistake! I'm not even sure who got what from all the plants I took. Hopefully most of you got what I had promised.

I'm just wondering what in the heck we're going to be trading at that time of year? Most of my plants and things will be getting ready to go into a greenhouse shortly after the roundup. Well within a month or so.

I want to take the time right here to say THANK YOU to everyone who shared both your time and plants with me in Jacksonville. My bananas, cannas, elephant ears, cardinal climbers, hot lips, brugs, and everything else are doing very well. Everything is growing great guns and I enjoy looking at them each and every day. I feel like my little tropical paradise is really starting to take off thanks to everyone who gave me plants.

Now if I just didn't have to haul water everywhere it would be alot better. Are any of you under water rationing ?

Happy Gardening, Marian

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

No doorprizes or doorprizes, we will all have a great time, right Beck? I want to be able this time to visit with you in person! I do hope we can all relax a little more this time and spend time together. That's the important thing. Me you and Lorraine have to represent the Froffie ladies, right? LoL

Marian? The gang generously said I could bring my German friends Regine and Natalie, so you will get to see Natalie again!

Froffie ladies?????

"eyes"

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Froggie, eyes, it's a nickname from another group we belong to. Someone meant to type froggies once and typed froffies instead, it's sort of our mascot

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Okay...........just couldn't imagine what a froffie was...something like a frosty or a blizzard...

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, I'm sort of new here... I don't live far from Tyler, but I'd like to know what a East Texas Fall Round Up is before I commit. Is it a plant swap? a round up of Texan DG'ers? or what?

Gilmer, TX

BJ, It's al the above. We swap plant or other garden related items and have lots of fun talking plants and getting to know each other. Several have invited us to tour their garden. I've been to all three and they are wonderful, worth the trip for sure. We had a great group at the June RU but didn't get to visit much because we were all anxious to get out of the heat. October should be much better. I do hope you will join us , we would love to meet you and the more the merrier.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

HI BJ,

the fall RU is a get together of Texas DG gardeners...East Texas, Central, South, even some from Louisiana and Oklahoma have come.
if you have plants to swap then it is the place to do it..if not but you have something else someone might want then you offer it instead ( tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, pine needles for mulch, craft items you make, just to name a few things off the top of my head) and if you have nothing then that is fine too you come and meet other DG members.

When I moved here last July the first one I went to I really had nothing to swap but I went anyway and the folks were super and I came home with plants anyway.
It is a great to meet other gardeners and talk gardening and get to know each other and make friends.

Phyllis

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey BJ, come and join us! We will have lots of fun, you will be right at home if you're a plant lover!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, I'll put it on my calendar... if I have plants, do we draw names? Is a name assigned us before we go, so we know who we're giving them to? or, how is that done?

Count me in... I do love to talk plants.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

what we do is start a thread for trades
You list what you have to offer and then list also what you would like to find in a trade...
example:
I have to trade
Tall purple Ruella
Rose bush cuttings- Joesph's coat climber, ebbtide, Belinda's dream (if anyone is interested I can take cuttings to bring)
Jewel of Opar starts -2
Tomatoes (the actual fruit)
African violet starts

Wants:
rooted blueberry bushes
peony bushes
water lily
Plants that would go with roses in a rose garden area

then you would say to the person having something you would like
Hey *** can I have the *** and tell me if there is anything I have you would like

then when it comes time to get together I find it works best to put the names of who is getting the plant on the pot and or make a list you can bring with you so you make sure you get the plants to the people that asked for them

And if you have extras you would like to get rid of you can bring those as there is almost always someone new around
or someone that could use them or we are thinking anything extra we might send with someone going to the Arlington Ru the following week to find homes there for them.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Yeah BJ.. You will have a great time.. please try and make it I look forward to meeting you!! Karen.. darkmoondreamer even brought homemade jelly to trade.. and it was a great hit!! But you don't have to bring anything.. we'll get you started with plants if you are a newbie... Phyllis will post when we gwt a lil closer to the RU date, and then we will list what we have to bring. Others will want to "trade for something we have and then you can choose something they have. BUT sometimes you ask for something and for what ever reason they may not need what you have, and that is ok too. OH and we eat really good too..lol Great cooks here in TX !!

AWW Karen.. you know I want the door prize..lol I loved the " cake walk" we had at the Central RU... we walked around a circle. and someone sang..LOL when they stopped and what ever "flower" name was under our feet, was what we HOPED was called out. I did GOOD!!..lol " Verbena" was my fav.. anyway.. Phyllis is boss.. ( I am pouting.. my lip is almost touching the floor..LOL)
Oh.. yes we have to represent the froffie froggie nuts.. but you MUST remember.. Lorraine is head nut!... hehehehehehe

I feel the same way Marian.. and isn't it nice when you are walking through your yard to remember who gave you what? That is the bonus for me.. I see my friends everyday throught the eyes of my plants!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, then... I think I have it straight... maybe, if not... I might have it strait before October.

I am not a new gardener, just new to DG Round ups... Well, let me restate that... I have been gardening for a long time, but not at this house... so a lot of my plants aren't ready to divide yet, but I do have a few that need to be thinned out. AND of course, there's a lot I would love to have.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

If you have any question just ask away someone is around to help out and answer.
Plants or not plants you are still welcome to come and post a list of wants

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL.. BJ.. then you will fit right in with all of us!! As some of us say.. ok.. I say it.. we are greedy gut piggy oink oinks..LOL

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Alrighty then... so, when, and where do I list my WANTS?... cause that list is a lot longer than my HAVES... OINK OINK..

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I haven't started it yet ...LOL

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Another conquest.....er..conversion......welcome BJ....and bring a smile...

Gilmer, TX

We love Okies, come on down. We even let folks in from Louisiana. :)

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

OK luvs- That happens to be Texas-OU weekend so you may get hooked by the horns. Come on down we will promise a good time. Leave ol' Boomer Sooner home.
BJ- It will be a good group of folks to gather with for a plant talking time. Although there are a few nuts in the crowd but easily spotted.
(No names needed).
Welcome all...
DD

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Yep all welcome. We do hold the line on those La. coon a's with the web feet. As we get closer you will see the nuts and oinks arrive. A good time will be had by all.
D

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh no Texas OU game day, that may be a problem, I cant leave my sooners. And the traffic to get there will be a nightmare. Have to wait and see.

Gilmer, TX

Come on down early before the traffic gets too bad. I know others are going to be camping at the park.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

October in East Texas should not be to bad. I can not do the heat and sleeping.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Tia come on down I do believe someone is bring a TV as DD mentioned the game also and the need to see it LOL

it is open to anyone that would like to come

Phyllis

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Tia... YAY... you have to come!! I have to meet you!! Peg is coming to the Arlington RU.. but I am trying to get her to come to this one too.. Won't we have a blast?!!

Mornin everyone!!

Bbj... Phyllis.. mibus2 is the boss around here.. we do what she says..LOL she'll start us a thread where we can post our wants.. or haves.. and another one for the food we say we will bring. Right now we are just chatting away working up to the time she gets us going

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Well gee beck umm thanks I think LOL
I thought you were spending this time finding things to start rooting or potting up to see if it would make it from the heat for trades at the RU ROFL
But I suppose I could start a trade thread since tomorrow is August 1st.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Yea but would I be safe around all longhorn fans. It does sound like a blast. I would probably come down the back way thru I think Denton, was down in Tyler last year and we came back that way. I would be by myself, DH is not a socializer. I have to pull teeth to get him to go to family reunions. So I would like to pitch a tent next to someone. I guess count me in.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Tia........drag the old man kickin' and screamin'...when he gets around all the other DH's there......we women folk will evaporate as far as they're concerned...all men know they have honey-do lists...

"eyes"

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Eyes, there is NO way he will get around all us gabby women. It will not happen. i hope my daughter is still living here then, or I wont be able to go, I have to find a chicken babysitter. My mom will be in Europe then so she cant. My husband will stay here. Hey its MY vacation. Plus he may be out of state working. I think the only thing that would stop me would be if I couldn't get someone to take care of the chickens.

East of Nacogdoches, TX(Zone 8a)

DH and I are coming most likely. Gotta wait till later to commit.

EastTxYardboy, I'm gonna root a pink vitex for you if you want and if you bring anything from your veg garden (if you have one) put me down for some please. Your summer tomatoes were the bomb!!

Welcome to all the newcomers and I'd encourage all of those thinking about coming but a little shy to jump on in. I'll admit, it seems a little weird to go hook up with strangers, but even your mom would approve of a RU.

Rusk, TX(Zone 8a)

antiquedrose, sorry, everything is gone from the garden, even the okra has burned up! I'd love to have a pink Vitex! How about a root-beer plant or an esparansa (yellow bells) for a trade?

We're looking forward to seeing everyone and maybe meeting some new folks. Anyone interested in trading named daylilies for named daylilies?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, I am going to peek in here and say hello. This sounds like a lot of fun. But I have a full time job taking care of my handicapped father. I would love to come to one of these round ups, but if my Dad isn't tagging along with, maybe I can ask my son to watch him for the week-end.
Please put me down for a maybe, and I will see what I can do for a babysitter.
This sounds like so much fun!!!
Linda Kay
