East Texas Fall Round Up, Saturday October 11th 2008.
Beck I will try, Hubby would be able to put them up but I would need someone to let them out, My daughter is scared of her own shadow, so who knows, maybe by then the grandson who will be 5 by then can come up and do it for her. Of course with mom's supervision. He isnt scared of anything but spiders.
Beck...believe me...."eyes" knows......my DH went ga-ga over grass...

I entered my zip code here:
http://www.melissadata.com/Lookups/ZipWeather.asp?ZipCode=75755&Month=Oct
For October 11th average high 80, low 52, should be quite comfy for playing and sleeping even if it goes a little higher.
very good thanks that will help in what to pack when it gets closer.
For those that have not looked at the Texas forums threads I started one for trades so you can mark your spot for later posting of your trades if you like...have ....wants

How nice to have this in our area. I'll try to be there
There has to be 1 rule tho, no beating up on the sooner fans. I will try to contain myself.
gabriell I do hope you can make it...it is alot of fun and I love meeting folks in the area still being somewhat new
Phyllis
Tia..LOL see there?? you already have a lil chickie feeder.. no excuse to NOT come!!
eyes.. LOL about your dh.. I am glad to see mine half way enjoing something I enjoy..
welcome Gabriell!! will be good to meet you!!
Phyllis.. I relooked your lil webpage thing.. and saw the arbor.. TY.. giving me ideas!! It was on the March one..
Linda Kay... I know the responcibilites of being a caregiver, and I praise you for taking care of your Daddy.. BUT the caregiver needs breaks too... Come on.. just commit.. you know you need a break!!
Becky
That's right Linda Kay! Try your hardest. I cared for a disabled mom for 4 years and know how demanding it can be. A little break would be a great refresher for you :) If you need a place to stay I have a spare bedroom, for Tia too if you want to bunk up!
OR, LK, you can stay with me and we can ride in together... I could use the company on the ride to Tyler.
Let me work on it, gotta make arrangements. Definately need the break...
Linda Kay
Oh gosh thanks Karen for the offer, If I dont stay in a tent I will get a motel. I have bad habits.
If that bad habit is smoking, you are welcome to stay with me. 'eyes' may be staying but that room has twin beds. I do have cats in the house, know that is a problem for some folks.
Thanks cat, yes that is one of my habits. Cats dont bother me.
Good then you are welcome to stay here. If you promise not tosay anything about the condtion of the house, I promise to hide all my Longhorn stuff. You will have a nice tidy bedroom though as we never use that room except when the GD stays over.
Excelent, sounds like a plan. He he he on the longhorn stuff. No worries on the house, I am a pack rat and have no storage YET. Thanks
I was lurking and saw people chatting about door prizes....When all my relatives get together we always play "family bingo". Some people will bring new prizes, some people will bring things they don't need anymore but that someone else might want. Everyone gets a bingo card and we keep playing till everyone gets to get a prize. To be fair to the little ones we stop for 10 seconds to let people pick their prize when they bingo.
It would take longer than just drawing numbers, but you get to pick what you want. I was very excited to get bokashi as my door prize at the last RU, but I know others might not be as excited about bokashi (yet, till you find out more about it).
Also, people can bring plants for a door/bingo prize without worrying that the person who gets it might not think it is great.
It could also be a way to raise money for the pavilion. People could donate $5 (whatever it takes to cover the pavilion) and keep plant trading, or bring a prize/plant and pay $5 for a bingo card. Kind of like the cake walk at the central RU. You still raise the money to pay for the pavilion, but you get to take home a prize for your donation.
This is just an idea, and whatever y'all decide won't hurt my feelings. I'm telling myself I'm not coming because school is starting and I will be busy. But you never know...someone might tempt me with some really wonderful plants and I might have to come anyway. Y'all are such a fun bunch to be around, and have so many great plants!
Tabitha
Now.. Tabitha.... what is it you are wanting??? I will go buy it if I have to!! You have to come!!! It wouldn't be a RU without you!! Now.. that is the end of the discussion.. I will NOT take NO for an answer!!... ( please????).... LOL
OH yeah.. I luv bingo.. another great idea.. I like dirty santa too.. where you get to "steal" from the others..LOL
Oh gosh beck, that is what we do at Christmas. We love it.
Ok what all does anyone have that Tabitha can use with her kids at school to tempt her to come...buttons, seeds, marbles, crayons..LOL
I know this is WAY off topic and if it's in poor taste I hope someone will tell me.....My daughter and fiance' just finished college and got their first nice apt. and their tv went out. They have no money to buy one and I don't either right now. If anyone has an old extra one lying around, even B & W, could you bring it to the RU? They would appreciate it so much. I have tried on FreeCycle with no luck. Thanks, Karen :)
Karen, try Craigslist for your area...the have a free section too...I have a 13 inch color, but that's a long way of for young people..
"eyes"
Was given a tv for the kids today!!! Off to Dallas to deliver it, they will be so happy!
Yeah......so glad it worked out okay for you Karen...
"eyes"
mornin girls and guys....
I have been brain storming on that trellis/arch.. but it's toooo hot and now my brain is fried..lol BUT I remembered I have a nice arch with lil swinging doors that really wasn't in a good place to be seen... I am in the process of moving it.. the ground is sooo hard I am watering the hole to be able to dig a lil deeper.. so I thought I'd come in .. check in.. and cool off.. now I figure I need to paint it to "match" the grren of the chairs.. BUT then.. the green of the chairs will be faded looking...LOL.. like right now I care... I am NOT your formal gardener.. I am going to paint the arch cause I want Emma's MG's to look even prettier...
WTG Karen.. so glad you got the kids a TV.. Be safe!!
Phyllis.... yeah.. you go after Tabitha.. we have to make her start drooling so she has to come!! Be safe yourself as ya'll head to ILL. in the morning!!
Tia... ohhh isn't it fun to "steal"??? LOL Only problem last year.. I got some mens UNDERWEAR.. and they wouldn't even fit DH..LOL well of course no one wanted them.. except the 1 guy they would fit.. but I never got another chance to get something else.. so I wound up giving them to the guy they were meant for anyway..
See Beck.......it ain't nice to fool mother nature!! I wouldn't worry about painting that arch....Emma's MG's will make it look even more glorious on a rustic finish...
"eyes"
eyes... NOW you tell me..lol I just got through!!...LOL
Well.........I didn't tell you to run right back out in this heat ...and suffocate yerself.......did I???
"eyes"
Ohhh Magie ..she is sooo cute.. and sleeps on her back just like my Pom.... My dh wanted one and was supposed to get it in TN but we were never there when the Momma had babies... so I guess he has forgotten about getting one...
eyes.... naw.... I am tuff!!!!!..hehe.. got it all done.. and looks really pretty.. even if I have to say so myself!!
Aw, Lily is a cutey!
Well, Beck I got the greenhouse I wanted. It is partly up and should be finished on Monday. I am going to put the shade cloth on for now so I can use it to work beneath. Maybe my cuttings will have a chance there as there is no other place around to give them any light without baking them.
That thing is huge! It didn't look that big from the street where I spotted it. It is 20 by 60. You could almost have a football game inside of it. Two guys took it down and are putting it up for us for $350. Boy did they underbid the job. It took two days to take it down and so far they have spent three days putting it back up. We are going to give them an extra $100 because they have to come back on Monday to finish it.
Now to figure out exactly what to do with it. LOL I don't think I will ever fill it up with plants. I plan on using the white plastic cover and using it as a hoop house. It would take a fortune to heat it. Any suggestions from you wonderful DG friends are welcome. I bought it because I found it cheap (cheep, cheep!). It was never used and the plastic cover and shade cloth are both still in the original boxes. They put it up and then had a death in the family and it has sat for four years in a field grown up in weeds. I stopped and asked and they sold it to me for $1850 with $350 of that going to the removal and re-installing guys.
It's huge, it's empty and I need some ideas.
Charlene
Try the Greenhouse Forum. Lots of help there.
Christi
Thanks Christi, I'll have a look there for some ideas.
Charlene
I sure hope you find the answers to your questions. They helped me a lot when I bought a "dog house" greenhouse from Costco in the spring.
Only 8x6 so don't think it will go very far with the tropicals I have become addicted to.
Nightey, night, darlin'.
Long day,
Christi
Yippee!! I have been wondering where you were.... congrats!! Hey ..I have an idea.. we can cut it in half.. and I can have 1/2 of it?? please?? purty please???? ..lol Awww.. you know I am happy for you!!
Welcome Christi!!
Maggie, Are you keeping the little puppy we were looking at the other day. I knew when you said you were taking her inside the jig was up!!! Is she doing good?
Ok, David, I caught that. People are going to be running and hiding before they even meet me!! lol
Yup Lorraine, she's the one! I think she was wobbly from not getting enough to eat and maybe a touch of being overheated.
So now she is Lily - and she is staying with me :~)
Only 2 more weeks and her brothers and sisters will be ready to go to their new homes, wherever they may be - sigh. I am going to miss the little boogers.
Lily is my little foundling cat's name. Of course now she is the biggest of the four. We tend to root for the unfortunate, don't we Maggi? I sort of thought when she made it into the house she might be there to stay. LOL
