East Texas Fall Round Up, Saturday October 11th 2008.
YAY... you know I will be there.. and if DH comes this time.. he has a pass... I guess we could wait outside the gates.. and let everyone come in with us..LOL
"eyes" & Company will be there...bells on!!!
"eyes"
Count me in too.
Not me sorry, I have to help with a plant sale for the Native Plant Society, so maybe next time.
I am happy to see that the east Texas area is doing so well.
Josephine.
I'll be there too Phyllis, and with your permission, my German friends would like to come again. They plan on bringing plants to trade. If this is unacceptable, please let me know. They had such a good time at the last one.
Beck, I promise I'll make SURE you get your jelly this time, LOL! I can't wait, been outside potting plants already.
Karen, Of courseyour friend is welcome, the more the merrier.
We really enjoyed meeting them...please tell them they are at home with us!!
"eyes"
Thank you all, I appreciate it. They are not internet people at all, just gardeners, LOL! I can't get Regine to even write an email! I appreciate you allowing me to bring them as guests.
LOL Becky in order for us to get in with you we all have to fit in the same car...ROFLMAO I can just not see that happening with plants too
Didn't say nothing about no tailgators.....
"eyes"
SEE... where there is a will there's a way!! hehehehehehe... TY eyes!!
I'll be there too. Dunno yet if I will have anyone with me or not.
pbtxlady you are welcome with or without *S*
I plan on coming and maybe 2 guests.
I hope I have some plants that are not burned and dehydrated by then. My poor plants need a little shade even though they are supposed to be full sun and drought hardy. I can hear my poor li'l plants saying to each other "we meant we could stand a normal drought not an oven and the driest ever drought". And then they fall over in a dead faint dying for water and a little cool shade. I water twice daily and I mean really water heavily. It is not enough! Even the cactus plants are begging for mercy! No way could I cover all that I need to with enough shade cloths. I am looking into it though just to see what would be the cost and if it is do-able.
Dry and spitting cotton,
Charlene
Hey if plants don't make it then we have a good time getting to know each other and talk plants LOL
I'm in. Pam is my leader, so if she's going, I'm bumming a ride, even on top!!
Josephine you will be missed but I do understand previous commitments and those are important too.
There will be other times to get together I'm sure.
Yes, I really want to see more of east Texas and meet everyone in person.
Aha! Excellent choice since it's a fairly short drive to our place from Tyler State Park. We would love to have anybody come and see the garden. We even have 3 twin beds available for over-nighters.
Count us in :~)
I like others are always discouraged this time of year with the dry heat. Come October we will be rived up again and ready to go. I look forward to seeing and meeting old and new garden friends. I hope our date does not conflict with too many of the folks wanting to come. Since the east Texas group is rather new, most of us are just learning the ropes of RUs.
Hope we have time to visit more this time. So count me in.
DD
Going to maggie/kens will be a treat too.
If I'm down there for 2 days I'm gonna go to maggies and kens, davids, and emma graces......may not take much back...but I love eye candy..
"eyes"
Kathie and I plan on being there! Are we going to eat? If so, what?
I'll be at this one--since I'm the only one around here interested in plants, just count one. I think I'll be up there from Thursday on, so if help is needed in advance let me know
hahaha yes we will eat not sure what yet but we will eat...did you want to be in charge of the food this time?
dmj thanks I'll keep that in mind as the park says we will have the pavilion from 10-9pm so I may just have to "visit" you before 10 to get things in order LOL
I will be printing the name tags again too
Phyllis
Phyllis--I'll let you know the campsite # as soon as I book it later today
Phyllis. if we're going to have hotdogs, hamburgers, etc., I'll volunteer to cook.
I'll bring stuff like ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, etc. for those things you are cooking--I can bring those up in the car straight from the store here and won't need to go looking for stores up there for fresh foods--bottled water is easy too--I'm sure they have a little store nearby for ice. it can keep my peanut butter and jelly company--lol
I will volunteer IF we do door prizes again to make a special time when we all STOP what we are doing for a moment, sit down, and let me call out the numbers so people can walk up and get their prize. Perhaps we stop trading, have lunch, get our door prizes, and then continue. Make it a little more organized and everyone will get exactly what they are supposed to. I will tag the door prizes also.

I think that is an excellent idea...set a time for set up and visiting, then lunch...1hr., then Door Prizes, then Trade and visit some more...sound about right to everybody?
"eyes"
I am going to sound off here.. lol and probably stick my foot in my mouth... I think the door prizes are a good idea... but I think we need to set a limit on them.... and everyone try real hard to each have something nice that everyone would want to take home with them! Now.. I have been fortunate the 2 RU's I have gone to.. but I have heard others that think they might have gotten jipped.. you know what I mean?? I love the door prize idea.. but then I also think each person needs to bring something.. or not get in on the door prizes... O..K... I have said it!!
Door prizes never have been that big of an incentive to me for whether or not I attend events...I've gotten plants, bird feeders, handcrafted items from dishcloths, etic...you know what, each item was just as meaningful to me no matter what. I think a donated door prize from each member would be just fine...but there have been those that have been donated by local businesses also...I'm just one who always appreciates a personal touch...
"eyes"
There's a gas station/convenience store directly opposite the park entrance road on Hwy 14. Used to be an ice cream parlor there too, but it's gone :~(
The north loop around Tyler has nothing in the way of stores till you go west/south to WalMart, Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods.
We'll bring some sort of chicken again as an alternative to hot dogs and burgers.
I think all the Great Pyrenees pups from this litter will have homes by then, or I'd bring one of them for a door prize - LOL! They're filthy little things in the pic, we have a mister and a fan set up out there to keep them cool, so of course they get wet and dirty. The chickens are waiting (im)patiently for the leftovers.
guys--just a thought here and its my own opinion
food and drink yes, always good...keep it simple
door prizes, etc and micro-managed activities aren't really necessary to make a good ru--and they are just going to aggravate those trying to manage them when folks tend to do what they want to do anyway
they best ru's just sort of evolve with the day--let the day set the agenda instead of the other way around
Debbie
=)
To me a door prize is just an extra little gift, whether it cost the giver nothing or $50.00 to provide it. I would never feel "jipped" or jealous because someone got something better, but that's just me. We're too big for that kind of behavior :)
Those are some cute little pigs....but "eyes" don't want one!! But it's sure fun to look...
"eyes"
Well ok now my turn LOL
as maggi said there is a gas station store right at the entrance of the park
dogs (not maggi's either LOL) and burgers are fine if that is the general consensus or there is the option of bringing your own lunch and brown baggin it
as for door prizes we dont' have to do them they are a lil treat so to speak but they do "make" the RU.
We do have some time yet before we set anything in stone.
I got just the right nice soft dirt for those pups to wallow in maggie
=)
I came back inside to add another thought.....Lord forbid, what if the person you were complaining to about getting "jipped" was the person that brought your door prize? How awful that would be? They do make the RU a little something special, and it's chance as to which one you get. If we do them again, let's just all have a good time and not worry about who gets better.
