Sunny and beautiful here - good day for the air show - Thunderbirds were in town.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 71.2°, Wind NNE 2.0, Rh 64%, Baro 29.58↓. ☺

Cloudy with passing thunderstorms, 4th storm approaching in the distance. 1.64" rain since 6:30 am. Finally a break from the drought we've been having here!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Second line of storms just went by here. Still raining at a normal rate now. Came down like crazy with a lot of wind, good thing for us chickens here not much lightening with the last batch. From bone dry to the swamp thing in three days. This weather is nuts. Stay safe all. Temp down to 70 degrees and just a gentle breeze again.

Thomaston, CT

Intense storms from 4-5 this morning---then at 3:30 this afternoon the wind roared, the rain poured, & it didn't stop thundering until 6 o'clock! Shook the house a few times, but no blow downs or power outages--the town next to us has 7,000 without power! Some lilies should have been staked--they are down--but surprisingly, most clumps are fine.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

must have been a migraine kind of day... I felt one coming on took some alive and went for a nap... all better now.. mine are easy if I catch them early and do just that... once it's bad... it's bad

it rained twice today... the second had some bad thunder storms... heavy rain

clam at the moment.. we just filled a few more big planters and planted a hydrangea... to fill some of the space behind the retaining wall... we are getting to covering that gravel now... YIPPEE!!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Whew! Another day without the internet until the storms passed. Pretty soggy ground here!

I heard from Liza and John. They are ok thankfully! These storms mean business!

Songs - I don't blame you for seeking shelter in the basement! A strike on a big tree like that would send me there too!! Very strange weather this year!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

So sorry you guys are still having BAD weather! I've lucked out and had a beautiful weekend.

Amazing weather today. This morning it poured for about 15 minutes then was cloudy. By 7:30a, the skies were blue. They stayed blue until about 11am. I could see grey skies north of me and hear thunder. Sounded like it was over the sound. I had plans to go out on my friend's boat on the Great South Bay. The radar was clear when I checked it before leaving- all the weather was on the north shore. By the time I got to Amityville, it was pouring. The lightening was incredible!! Huge bolts and blinding light. It poured on and off until 4pm. I got at least 3" of rain by my house. I just got off the phone with my brother, who is spending time in Westhampton Beach - everytime they went out, their hair started standing up!!! Talk about static electricity. He said the skies turned almost purple. It rain so hard a couple of dingys sank. They lost power too for part of the day. He actually called this afternoon to see if they were under a tornado warning. He says he hasn't been that worried about weather before.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Anita, I hear ya with the weather, crazy over in the south shore, could not go out at all on the boat, thunder all day since 5 AM and then after 12 rain and rain and more thunder and rain, Awful weather but rain is good sometimes! Now I am back home in central Nassau county and everything is good! Clemen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We were over my fil's after church and it rained with some thunder and lightning but we must have had some storm at our house(1/2 hr away) It knocked over the arborvitae I just planted 2 weeks ago(it was staked and everything), tossed my son's big wheel and knocked over some containers. We got over an inch of rain.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sounds pretty fierce Jen... sorry to hear it

Crazy thunderstorms today! I love them. They make my hair stand up!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

It was a cool, wet, windy October day here yesterday. Sweet Italian roasting peppers must think the season is ending. They are ripening. Bright red peppers are an odd sight on a grey day in the drizzle and cold. Last year the peppers turned in mid-August. Picked breaker tomatoes last evening to ripen inside. They would split and rot if I didn't. Going to have a lot of splitting no matter what. Spent most of the day inside looking out:

hi81 with 30% chance of rain.
Nice day to finish the edging GD started.
Why can't 17 year olds keep at a task until it's done?
Left tools out overnite too.
Birds just started.

I was trying to post to this thread last night when the internet connection went out - again! I think we may have a bit too much moisture around the phone lines. I finally gave up and went to bed.

It's still wet damp, foggy and drizzling around these parts. Anna and I tried to clean up one of the beds yesterday afternoon, in between the storms. We didn't get too far on the project, but the iris got lifted, anyway, and that was the goal for the day.

Currently, the weather report says:
61° and damp and raw, on its way to a high of perhaps 80 today.

Humidity: 100%
Dewpoint: 61°
Pressure: 29.80 and steady.
We will have more T-storms in the afternoon.

Sky is clear and sunny. No breeze at present, temp in the mid 70s. Should climb to around 90 with oppressive humidity again. Brisk winds predicted for this afternoon and a few more clouds.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Same thing with the North Coast Anita, maybe they're slowly sinking. They had a lot of beach erosion during the winter & the ocean level is rising.

'Jersy too...

* Temp 78.8°, Wind WNW 3.5, Rh 51%, Baro 29.70 steady. ☺
Clear & Hazy, not too bad with the breeze.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

78 and humid. Hey WC, clear and hazy?? Which is it?!^_^ Have you seen the rip currents near you. Terrible weekend with those people dying.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

sunny and warm here.
yesterday was beautiful, mid 70s, a tang in the air.
Bit warmer today with less breeze, perfect for doing some heliographic fabric painting.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

No clouds present, but a hazy 'film' so you cant see the nice blue sky. ☺

- Long Island has the 2nd worse rip currents that I have 'personally' seen. Cape Hatteras was #1. That water is 'Waist Deep Only' and you have to have good footing to be able to run out if you have to!

South Hamilton, MA

Breezy & sunny. Visiting daughter & family to the beach, DH and I visiting the weeds.

Thomaston, CT

Kathleen--what kind of painting is that? Did watercolors today after babysitting HayHay & Anni----when I pointed out a Christmas Fern to the 3 year old, she told me they stay green all winter--future DG member! Mid 80's, sunny, big puffy, white clouds today--cooling off now--isolated T-storms tomorrow---guess whose garden they'll hit--some tomatoes ripening----heavy rain for Thurs. should make a nice mess!

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

A fabric paint called Setacolor transparent has the interesting effect of doing a chemical change in the sun. If you lay leaves and such over it and place it in the sun, the fabric under the leaves fades while the uncovered fabric becomes brighter. The border pieces on this are an example. The center is a photo of my daughter's creek.
