I haven't seen any grasshoppers this year and I didn't have brugs when I had grasshoppers. The farmers around me said the only way to get rid of them was to spray when they are small, because once they get big it is almost impossible to get them. I never had any problems except those two years in a row. Then the third we had a fix.
The way I got rid of them was my DH the following year purchased 2 geese and 2 ducks while I was in Oklahoma working.....well they ate every grasshopper in site. Sadly something got in the pen and got one of the geese and one duck. So we found a better home for them where they had lots of geese and ducks. Actually wouldn't recommend geese but the duck was small and he was great. When I would get the shovel he was right there with me because he loved grubs....and he ate grasshoppers by the thousands.

Girls.. I gotta tell ya'll a funny.. well it isn't right now.. but maybe in about 10 years it will...LOL My DH was going to bake a pie.... well the oven started smoking.. remember the dirty cabbage I made the other night??..well I forgot it spilled some... so.. it's still smoking...I figured the only way he would get a pie was to clean the oven.. you know.. I have the self clean feature..so I turn it on... man.. that oven is STILL smoking... so I turn on the exhaust fan.. on HIGH.. it's still smoking.. and I can't figure it out.. there wasn't that much mess in there.. oh well.. I go back outside... come back in and boy it stinks sooo bad.. I open the window.. go back outside..dh comes to the door and asks do I know it's all smoky in the house.. soooo I come back inside the fumes burnt my eyes..hmmm... I still can't understand..I KNOW there wasn't that much mess in the bottom of the oven...hmmmmm.. well it got cool enough... and I couldn't believe the MESS IN the oven... guess what????????? DH left a pot of grease...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... in the oven......... how it didn't burn the house down I don't know..anybody want to trade a second hand DH for a brug????.....LOL
Soooooo... deep breathe here.... TG we haven't had that many grasshoppers.. but leafhoppers.. yes!!! I was spraying every few days with 7... and I don't like chemicals.. but I didn't see any other way..
Bonnie... we will probably only get rain..TG.. we need ot soo bad.. we are about 2 1/2 hours from the coast..Ya'll take care and drive safe since ya'll are leaving in the morning..
Audrey... I think it was kenboy that would nip the top lil leaves on the brugs.. and that would encourage them to Y.. I fudged on the big brug I got from emma_grace and nipped the 2 taller stalks.. we'll see..hehe

Oh the oven story is soo funny, only because I don't have to figure out how to get it clean or the smoke smell out of the house...LOL
I was at work one day and my XH decided he would pop popcorn and he decided that it would pop faster if you turned the burner all the way up and don't shake the pan (before microwaves).....lovely smell....LOL
Becky funny story and I can relate to that! My nephew was staying with me and I told him to pop the chicken in the oven when I was at work. I came home to a horrid smell and smoke, he had put the plastic container in the oven instead of putting it in a pan. I had to laugh, he was so upset with himself!
All it is doing is raining..I haven't seen any wind blowing hard here at the School Bus Barn yet.

My tall brugs are missing so many leaves and lots are shredded from bad storms here earlier. They are starting to recover now.
