She's About to....... #9

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh I know what you mean. I was covered with sweat and yelling so loud the stripper at the strip bar below the shop came up to see what was going on and held my hand through the rest of it. She gave my hubby a free show to distract us lol! I was five miles down the road when I realized she held my hand. My hubby just laughed at the look on my face.

This is the true love of my hubbies and my life! Our son Robert.

Oh Lavender, he is so beautiful. So sorry you lost him, I know how grief stricken a mom can be when she loses her child. I lose my 42 yr. old son 3 years ago, never know he had heart trouble. In my thoughts every day, and a big hole in my heart.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

A mother never stops loving her child Samigal hugs.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I breaks my heart knowing you both have lost a child. No you never stop loving your children.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

aww Louise.... lil Robert is soo perfect.. in our eyes.. and God's eyes... I guess He has other plans for your lil Robbie and you and DH! I am sooo sorry that you have had to go through this.. I can't imagine anything worse....

Sami.... my heart goes out to you too!!

My DH lost his only boy shortly after birth, and his baby girl at the age of 21yr old. I was there for him when his daughter died.. she had cystic fibrosis..... a horrible disease that truly robbed her.. and the whole family!

We are all hottie SIS's...in more ways than one!!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

My heart goes out to both of you Sami and Louise and to you too Beckie! Clemen

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Louise, Sami, and Beck love and hugs FIRST before anything else!

The hospital I work for has a private cemetery just for the little premature angels, which is free to the parents. It is very private and kept up beautifully. I was so impressed when I found out they did this for the families.

Now, to tattoos, nope not this lady. I'm still such a wimp, I don't even have my ears pierced. But one of my younger friends is totally a body canvas. Hers are very beautiful and very unique. On her, it looks great! But she is such a sweetie, her inner beauty just shines, too.

Louise, tell DH that next time you get a male stripper, he had his turn!!

Ladies, when I got outside this morning, FINALLY, my new hardy hibiscus is blooming. I ran to the house, old dog thought I was pulling a new trick and almost tripped me about three times, grabbed the camera, back out to the back of the yard, huff, huff, huff.. and the camera is cold dead. No charge!!! So, it's charging now and later I will WALK back out there and get a pic. Older ladies should not run... especially when old dogs decide to join in! Thank goodness no one had a video cam out. :)))

Got to get back to watering.. 105 again today and tomorrow. I so hope this breaks soon. Our cooling and water bills are going to be humongous. But I hate to lose anything that I've already paid for or the special plants from special friends!

Beck, 76 days to Arlington... :)

Peg, "Nobody had a video out".....that you know of!!!
Glad you're enjoying the hibiscus! Stay cool!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Audrey, they better not have!! My yard is 180 ft deep (and narrow) and very unlevel. So I was stumbling try to keep from tripping over the dog and fall over a rut. Our next project is leveling out there. I was probably a "sight to behold."

Anyway, here is the Texas Star Red Hibiscus this morning. This flower is 4 inch across.

Beautiful!! I never saw one like that before!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Beautiful!!!...still would have liked to see the video ;o}

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

oh it is so lovely! What a vibrant color that must light up when they are all in full bloom! Someone sent me a non hardy southern yellow hib that I hope blooms before the frost. It took forever to get the seed started.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

I had never seen one before either. I just found it at the place I bought my first brug and liked the picture. This is its first bloom and I really like it. It will be real nice in a couple of years when it gets shrub-size and has blooms all over. I'll let you know if I have any little ones show up that I can share, okay? Peg

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Beautfiul hib. What zone is rated for, do you know?
Been out weeding, and it does feel better. Got one bed down all the rest left to do. I will never try to go without mulch again. I was trying to save money...guess I wasn't thinking about the doctor and hospital bills from pulling all the weeds, heat stroke, broken back, chiggers, shoulder disconnection, fright from snakes.....oh but now I don't need to go to the gym...LOL

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Hap,

Zones 7 through 10, growth 6' x 5' on the hib. I don't know if you could fudge on it with heavy mulch or not. Got any rock or brick walls or anything that radiates heat? That might be a spot to try iffy zone plants..
I did mulch and the weeds just loved it. Grrr...

Louise, I have brought trop hib in the house and overwintered them (on my kitchen table) and had blooms all winter. But I think most of us are running out of overwintering space quick. :))

Back outside, it's "only" 99 so far. Peg

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

It's only 90* here today!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Peg.. I have been wanting the red TX star for a long time.. I just got a lil white TX star at the J RU... I also have the red confederate rose.. now that one is pretty.. Am starting cuttings of the pink double confederate rose.. I really like the confederates better than the hibiscus.. but love them all..lol A RU will be here before we know it.. I think you need to consider the Tyler RU too!! Won't be in Jacksonville this year.. they are moving it to Tyler State Park.. a lil closer for you..

I won't say the temp here..lol I am afraid I will jinx it if I do.. but we are going to be 98 tomorrow and that is the hottest so far.. very unusual for us.. but we have been soo dry that I am glad it hasn't been any hotter...

Ty for the bittersweet memories.. but Dh's DD died almost 18 years ago..long time.. but it seems like yesterday... she died 8 weeks after we married.. but she and I hit it off so well.. and she had told me she was afraid of dying alone.. I spent the last 48 hours by her bedside.. and I was the one there when she died... God granted her wish.. and I was humbled that I had been able to be the one there for her.. just the ol step mom.. but I carried her wishes through.. and that meant the world to me

Hi Joyce.. long time no see!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

mid 90's here. Tomorrow 100. feels like 100 though. I am planning on bringing at least one trop hib to roundup. The second one bloomed and it is pete's blue too. Don't need two of those. If the third one is pete too I am bringing that too. Spread the beauty around. My night blooming jasmine is budding. I have to say since I don't have any brug blooms, my scent superstar has been my jasmine sambac. It blooms so profusely you can smell that on the sun porch through the windows at night! Just heavenly!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

merpeg, would hate to try to jump 2 zones.
I live in the country on a hill and very little micro climates, in fact I don't think I even have one unless it colder than warmer...LOL
I have thought about trying to do some kind of fence to build a micro climate. Question how come in the midwest all our fences are wood and usually airy and all the "fences" I see in the desert ex: Las Vegas are concrete blocks which seem to me would heat up like an oven. Which is what I am thinking about doing here. I know we have heave hoe freeze thaw, but if I do a footing I would be ok.

I have been lurking and just jumping in to see what is going on and then jumping back out and trying to get some control on these weeds!

Still have blooms on Monster white, Versi is putting on buds again I don't think I understand that already but not complaining, in fact every thing has buds again except for a triple and the snow one.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Wow was it hot here today. In spite of my watering twice, one of my brugs got some damage on the tip from the heat. Guess it stuck out into the sun longer than the others. Time to move them again! My darling silly hubby decides he is gonna mow today and almost got heat stroke. It took a while for him to recover. Of course he would not listen to me and do it in the morning or evening. lol

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Do the darlings ever listen to us, NO. Mine finally learned you don't go out in the hottest part of the day to work.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Well I don't think he is going to repeat that any time soon!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Suppose to be 100 today and heat index of 106 I think they said.
Ya all stay cool and wet today, not a day to be playing outside.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Only supposed to be 102 here today!!!
Linda Kay

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Morning hotties, just popping in from work to say Hi. I was a beautiful 69 degrees this morning , on the south coast. Why don’t ya’ll come up here and get out of that heat?

(Cathy), MO

Good morning all. I'm battling grasshoppers now! They seem to love this hot dry weather. I went out yesterday morning and there were holes in almost every leaf on my Gypsy Queen. Stood there for a min and the grasshoppers were hopping everywhere! Out comes the spray again. I need to get more at lunchtime today. At this rate I'll never get a bloom

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I know cat I agree, Those little grasshopper sure grew fast! Donna that sounds like the perfect temperature to me! It is going to be the same temp here as kansas city. Yuk!

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Just popping in to say HI..since I am at work..then go home and get ready for that storm which suppose to blow thru here soon...will keep posting to let ya'll know I am still alive here..LOL....I know rain is coming!!!..my plants here will love it all when they get a drink....lol..

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

oh we need rain bad. Funny to say that after all that rain all spring early summer. Our next chance is not until wed or so.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I don't think it's ever gonna rain again!!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Good Day everyone. Hot here, too.. 100 at noon, sure to climb a few more degrees before the day is over.. I had an unfortunate brug event... my 2 tone green sport off Maya is suffering from the heat... I checked it Saturday and it was dry/wilty... quickly watered, but it didn't perk back up... I've moved it to the shade and hope I see a more "lifely" brug when I get home, today... Everything else is doing very well for being so hot, I think a lot is because DD is being a very dedicated waterer for me. She said, wow Mom, what if something happens like happened to the sport while your gone on vaca??? I won't want to tell you..... I might have to get on DG and consult........ (I said CALL ME, we'll figure something out... she's feeding them later this week, 1st time....) So, DS and I will be off in the morning. Joyce, MW is in bud again, and Versi is still pumping out a few blooms at a time and the Pink Pendulous noid is flushing. I have about 20 tropical hibiscus, all getting ready to pop with blooms... told Mel to take and send me lots of pics... I almost didn't catch up on this Hottie Thread... but I stayed focused.. thank you all for sharing your memories, no matter how painful... Boss man wants me to work, so I'll check in ASAP... Audrey, I wouldn't cut your brugs, they have to grow taller to "Y", then you'll get buds, sometimes they grow 6-12ft tall before "y" ing.... hang in there, you'll have blooms... 1st year is the longest to wait. Nadine, we'll be wondering about you, hope it's just rain and no damaging winds.. How bout you, Beck? I'm not familiar with anything but Houston and Dallas... hope all our Texas friends are okay.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Moodene, I hope you only get nice gentle rains, not hurricane rains.
Cat, I had grasshoppers two years in a row a few years back and they ate everything, paint off the house, screens, you name it.

(Cathy), MO

Does spraying the brugs help keep them off Joyce?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

prolly would Cat, if you stood there spraying from sun up to sundown.. Sevin, maybe? It's a bit drastic but if they are going to eat screens, I'd have to use some.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I bought a product by bayer from lowes called isotox sytemic. I am going to try that Joyce. Really need to do something about the mites on the mite candy in my yard. Thunbergias are mite candy! You mix and spray this twice 7-10 days. It does list grasshoppers too. Would love to stay organic, but with how packed my yard is you have to be drastic I guess.
