Morning Glories 2008 #10

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

That's ok. I know you're still hurting, don't feel like talking much, and what was it . . . oh, yes - to darned grumpy . . . to get out to the post office? Hope you felt better after your nap!

Edited to say:

Do not know if you'd be up for it, but we may drive down to Corpus on Sunday . . . if you wanted to just put off mailing anything . . .

Thanks Ronnie, hoping you have blooms soon too. Took over a month for the buds to mature on mine and maybe longer.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh how lucky could I be if you drove down on Sunday because it is so hard to pack so many things without breaking them. Why would you drive that far and turn around and go back? (it is none of my business) dmail me maybe.............

I wouldn't be able to spend much time because my youngest daughter and children are coming down Friday........spend the day with friends in Rockport (without me) on Saturday from out of state. Then she will come here Saturday night and go home Sunday or Monday.........

Moonflowers open this evening. The insects are drawn to these as soon as they open.

how pretty and white!

gardenpom - Your Moonflowers are lovely. My vines just don't seem to be doing as well this year. Not sure why. I have more plants growing in that area this year, maybe they aren't getting enough sun because of the other plants. I love the fragrance of the Moonflowers too!

Melbourne, FL

Mine aren't doing well either, in fact, these flowers surprised me. I'll be starting new MG's outside in September and I'll include a few Moonflowers.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am new to MGs but because it is over 100 almost everyday here, I planted mine with only filtered morning sun and they seem to still be blooming in pots.

I took these this morning. (I am having to water twice a day though..........so next time they are getting more plants in big big pots)

I promise I won't keep taking pictures of the same kinds any more (LOL)

They all seem to want to bloom at the very top of the wire I put up.

The pink ones are just getting started for some reason. I need to trim the big climber beside them. (can't think of her name.....dark pink and white flowers.....maybe allamanda)

Need a tissue to mop up the drool over this one LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am turning the corner and starting to feel much better (hip hip hooray).........even sticking leaves of streps today.

Ya'll .......I will try to remember to add your names to my 'manage folders' so I don't forget who likes what...........the pods are still mainly green.............but I watch everyday.........

luvs is going to be your user ID for this (LOL)

This morning's blooms:

This is Kannami, there is some shredding of the petals, and it looks like it wants to double, That bit in the center is growing that way. I didn't see that on the few earlier blooms that this plant had.

I will give my firstborn child for a seed from each of these...........to die for! Or..........at least tell me where I can order the seed for both of these, please. I don't mind ordering seed at all. Thanks for showing us.
gail

Here are a few that I have posted already...hope you don't mind the repeats cuz they're all I have flowering right now.

Joseph

Berry Ice is beginning to put out more flowers per day, really nice to see. Xiong's will have at least a dozen tomorrow.

Here is a mugshot of one of my reverse tube JMGs.

And a mugshot of Dainagon. In "real life" these flowers are much more red than the camera captures in the image...I need to work on getting a true color for the flowers.

Man oh man! Is that one amazing!!! :-) :-) :-)

It is stunning, Becky! LOL This year the flowers seem bigger than last year's flowers of this type and am loving it!

When you collect this seed, Joseph, I better see it for sale on the DG Marketplace!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Beautiful blooms Deb and Joseph.

Gail,

I would be more than happy to share seeds later in the year. Just remind me. But please, keep your first born, on second thought, can I send my first born along with the seeds?? Will gladly send the second born, too!!

Deb

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I have TWO to send along, too! Is there a place we can all send our teenagers? LOL!

I genuinely hope that many here are willing to do some seed trading after seed collections are done. Y'all know me ... I love to do trades and do grow-outs, so I look forward to sharing what I am collecting now and from the next grow-out. ;-)

Thanks everyone! I about fell over when I saw a new one open this morning...took a photo and will post it tonight here. I thought it was Shi-Kanoko and it turned out to be an 8-ray dark blue/purple on light blue/purple pattern. I grew a mix of Shi-Kanoko and this blue ray JMG and a third JMG that all came in the same packet from Japan when it was supposed to be just Shi-Kanoko. So this year I was trying to sort the three out. I hope one of the containers I have turns out to be the red-speckled wonder.

Joseph

PS are your kids ok with being traded for JMG seeds? LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

momcat, I am already getting seeds ready as I have ordered some and am ordering more to share. This is really fun. No mam, I am not taking in any teenagers........Mine are now 36, 37 and 38. I have paid my dues (LOL)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - My kids think I am a "mean, too strict" mom, so they would probably think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence! LOL!

Gail - Now ya are definitely getting the MG addiction bug! LOL!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I was definitely the most lenient mom in the neighborhood! I was single and my own three always ganged up against me (LOL)

Yes, I have the bug badly for MGs. Now I find myself looking for different seeds all the time on ebay and everywhere else when I haven't even planted the ones you , Nichole and Joseph sent .............

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Uh oh, Gail ... your addiction has gone to obsession! LOL! That's where I am at. I had the brakes slammed on me with the rust issue, but I guarantee you it won't keep my obsession in the closet for too long! lol

wow, look at all that lush foliage. I 'hate' you. (LOL) Our heat is really getting to mine. I just want them to last long enough to gather lots of seeds.

How long has that one vine been growing in the ground?

I don't know if this will work or not Becky, but I have a product I use on my gesneriads called Garden Safe Brand.....Fungicide 3-1 and says it is for the following:

Fungicide:
Controls Black Spot, Rust and Powdery Mildew
Insecticide:
Control whitefilies, aphids, and other insect pests!
Miticide:
Controls Spider Mites

It is easy to find anywhere........I bought the bottle already mixed and then bought a big bottle of concentrate and use it all the time on everything...............

Norfolk, VA

Since the beginning of April. I pinch each vine back, meaning that I snip off the terminal bud, which signals new growth between the leaf and stems for a lush growth effect. I do this every 2-3 weeks. You might want to give it a try, my suggesstion is to do it every 2-3 weeks. this will also produce a larger cascade of flowers, which means more seeds. mine just produces countless flowers every day. hope this helps.

Tony

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I will do that next time. That makes perfect sense since you get two new pieces of growth each time you pinch back the terminal bud............great idea........

Norfolk, VA

I start off by letting the mother vine grow to the top of the fence and trellis then I pince it back making it produce children vines then those grow to the top and I pinch those back then I repeat every 2-3 weeks.
