Onewish, I had my mom go and stand by the lilly again since it just started to bloom. So here's this years picture of it. I just looked at last years picture again, and it looks like it's easily another 4 or 5" taller than last.

Wow! So many great shots.
Redchic, any chance your Mom is 2 feet tall?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Allison is that a blanket flower a perennial for you?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I definitely agree with you about the lilly Allison. What's not to like. Just the fact that every part of it is in giant proportion is enough to at least find it interesting.

And Dave... nope, no chance that my mom is only two feet tall! In fact the Rhody to the left is 4' tall.

You catch on quick JoAnne. and the hydrangea is going to be lovely. I think that with those measurements it belongs under Allison and I's lilly!

Love the Moth and Monarda Ngam

ThanksRC.
Found this plant "Moth Mullein" transplanted it.
It's going to seed where I want more next year. Now I hope mother nature is kind cause there is a lotta mulch for the seedies to filter thru.
The picture is split, plant too tall for leaf detail.
I posted on Plant id.this morning.
Red Chick could have meant anything these days.

Victor, is the kopper king white and hot pink or is it really red? I got one this year (it hasn't bloomed yet). I'm hoping its more pink than red...but it's gorgeous either way.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

ihave one more pic that I thought would be fun to add of the lilly. dirty nails and all, you can definitely tell that I had been out in the garden.

Victor - your hardy hibiscus are way ahead of mine in blooming. I did see some blooms coming though this morning when I checked my Red and White Lunas. Something has been eating the leaves of my Red one, but it has some nice blooms coming. Your shots are very pretty. I like that Kopper King and I love the light pink one you posted quite a bit back in the thread. My White Luna has a deep red throat and I'm wondering how it differs from Kopper King. Do you know?

That's a gorgeous lily. Do you have the name? My lilies are being decimated by the lily beetle this year. Anyone know how to get rid of them? I've tried a couple things but it's not even slowing them down. I don't usually use any chemicals, but I occasionally give in...

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Neem oil is used ,can be bought at Lowes early in the spring befor it sells out.
some nurseries and garden stores have it too.
I use Bonide ,kills Jap Beetles and Lily beetles and a number of other pests.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

RC - gorgeous lily shot and your nails look pretty normal to me!! LOL

Songs - I'm with you......I try to garden organically for the most part, but the Japanese Beetles are beginning to push their luck with me today. They are eating my roses, green beans and potatoes. I have encircled most of the different crops in the garden with marigolds and those crops don't seem affected by any pests, but the beans I planted later are really riddled by them. Ugh!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I was deadheading some potted geraniums and the whole head was full of JB's I pitched it at the birds.

My caladiums are opening up around the original well that was dug by the first settler in 1763. If you lift off the grinding stone that protects critters and us from falling into the well, the cylindrical stone work is an art form long forgotten. The top part of the well garden hasn't filled in much yet.

I have tried Neem oil. It didn't work. Well, it did initially but they were back in full force a week or two later. I suppose I have to keep applying?

Oddly, I never seem to have major problems with JB's. I might get a few here and there, but I just pluck them off and drop them in a cup of water and dish washing soap. I just introduced roses to my garden this year. I hope that doesn't turn my luck!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I hope you don't have a problem with them, Songs! By the way, did you have any problems from the severe weather this week?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Songs... unfortunately I don't know the name of it :-( Onewish has a lilly that pretty close to mine, if not the same exact one (she posted a picture in thread 25 - mine seems to be a little more yellow--but allison says she has crappy soil), and neither of us know the name. She posted a please Id over in the Lilly forum and I'm not sure what sort of luck she has had in "Id"ing it. I think that it has been narrowed down though???

I agree Louise, one of the upsides of hanging out with gardners is that by the end of the day, we all tend to look the same. lol

What do japanese beetles do to lillies? I had 4 or 5 of all one kind of Asiatic lilly completely disappear this year. I was disgusted!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Beautiful use of the grinding stone.
I have seen tham with the spirel grooves they sure make a nice addition to any setting.
This stone is part of the niche bench at Linwood Gardens

We just got very heavy rains. The collapsed house where a woman died is just minutes north of me though. Scary!

I absolutely ADORE yellow flowers, but you want to hear the oddest thing? I don't usually plant them in my garden!! I tend to stick with blues, purples, pinks and whites mostly. But if I'm buying a bouquet of flowers for inside - I am always drawn to yellow! I'm still trying to figure that one out, LOL!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Glad your OK songs

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I started to post pics of the D.C. trip. I'll try and do the pics and the collages in groupings...it's easier for me, and probably easier for everyone else...lol. The collages take about an hour or so, give or take, and to upload them takes a bit more...I started with the Bonsai section from the National Arboretum, and will take it from there. I have nice shots from the Dwarf Conifer Gardens, the Dogwood Gardens, and the Asian Gardens, along with some nice photos of the Grounds in and around the Admin Building of the Nat'l Arboretum.

Then I'll do a grouping from the Botanical Gardens...lol.

Then, I will sleep. lol.

Will post more later!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thom - where did you post the photos from your trip? Get some rest!
